Attentive, friendly service that caters to the customer's needs. However, there was a considerable delay between courses, even though the accompanying wine had already been served half an hour earlier. This was somewhat inconvenient. Aside from that, the flavors were somewhat less surprising than I'm used to from some comparable restaurants. The food was good, but the flavors generally weren't surprising. We had a great evening, but in my opinion, the price-quality ratio wasn't quite right.

Incredibly delicious food, very helpful and friendly staff, and a unique atmosphere. It truly feels like dining at a higher level, albeit a hefty price tag, but you really get your money's worth. Highly recommended!

I called later in the day and was lucky that they still had a table. At first we had a place at the bar but a little later in the evening before our meal we asked if we could sit low because of the food that was no problem and the table was set. Food and service was top friendly staff and full of knowledge. Beautiful special and especially tasty and well-executed dishes. Despite a busy evening they made time for you that was good to see.

Sunday, June 1, 2025 I made a reservation while passing by at lunchtime that day and visited at 6pm. The restaurant is two stories and open, with ample space between tables, so you can relax and dine. I ordered ala carte instead of a course. The raw oysters were topped with a flavored mousse, which tasted completely different from those in Japan. The tongue and lamb were tender and very delicious. The staff were all very kind and left a good impression. It seems to be a popular restaurant that is fully booked after 7pm, so it's best to make a reservation. We had a few glasses of wine and the bill for four of us came to about 200€ Credit cards are accepted

We love coming here, every time we leave we are not disappointed. Delicious dishes and beautiful wines in a relaxed atmosphere. We are already looking forward to the next time.

Pleasant surprise in Leiden, tasty dishes (even Spanish inspired Tapas), amazing wines, and a good friendly atmosphere. The only point of improvement is to be more careful before serving the bread 🍞, our bread was still frozen/cold from inside. Other than that perfect place to have dinner 🍽

We were quite disappointed by the speed of service at the Bishop. It is the slowest dining experience I had so far. We ordered chef’s menu with 5 course, and main course came after 2 hours that we sat down. Portions are quite small aswell that’s why after finishing each course, we had to wait for long times for other course to come. Waiter did not inform us at all about these waiting times till we asked. The food has good quality and taste, but not anything super impressive for a Michelin Guided place. Unfortunately, the long waiting times between each course made our experience really unpleasant in general. I hope they can improve the service in the future.

“The dishes are strong and pure with a rough note.” We can confirm this sentence from the restaurant philosophy 100 percent after our visit on July 13, 2024. The Bishop has managed to conjure up a clarity of taste on the plate, this style doesn't need a lot of chic if the basic ingredients are of the highest quality and are cleverly processed in the kitchen. Kudos to the kitchen team! No meal is perfect if the service isn't right, but at The Bishop the employees have fun and enjoy their jobs. Robin made it a special evening for us. Always with us at the perfect time. The wine accompaniment to the 5 course menu brought the course to perfection with every wine. I would like to thank the team for making our increase from two to three people possible at very short notice. Our pregnant daughter independently received the changes with the products in the desired menu. We had a fabulous evening in the wonderful ambience - this really beautiful old house - with you. We dined at The Bishop for my birthday. Being lactose and gluten intolerant, we informed them of my dietary restrictions when booking. They were more than accommodating and made us feel very welcome. The meals were incredible, with great care taken in food preparation.

Insanely delicious food. The chef is not afraid to spice up his dishes and the wines pair well with that. The staff is very friendly and enthusiastic but not too pushy. We didn't have a fixed wine arrangement, but we were recommended great wine for each dish because they happened to have a bottle open. Highly recommended!

At The Bishop, entering the former gin warehouse is the start of an experience that only ends after dessert. What a wonderful ambiance, cool romance with a touch of mysticism. This includes service with a personal touch, but unfortunately this is not available to the entire team. Tip to the owner who uses the right touch, tickle your controls more often, rid them of overly aggressive behavior. The dishes made up for everything and appealed to the taste buds, especially in combination with the wines chosen exactly to the point. My evening was more than perfect. Thank you for this tasteful evening in perfect company.

For a last minute dinner, with no reservation, they made us welcome. Served us superior food. Were very hospitable and accomidating. Chefs choice 3 course oh my it was impressive. We think it worth driving an hour plus to come here.

The food was great but the portions are on the smaller side, even for a fine dining restaurant. We got the four courses with wine pairing, which was really nice. Some of the wines were fantastic. The restaurant looks great, I would definitely return, even just for drinks. The staff was very nice and knowledgeable, they gave interesting information about each of the wines we were served.

Without a doubt one of the best culinary experiences in Leiden. The 4 courses were innovative and with exquisite flavors. The service was very attentive and friendly, the atmosphere is romantic and we will definitely return.

Delicious food. With every course of chef's menu, so many different taste sensations with every bite you take. It's unbelievable how creative they are there under the inspiring leadership of Jim Dijksterhuis. A new chef's menu every few weeks. Service very friendly and attentive atmosphere such that we stayed until closing time. We come back!

The food was delicious and what a beautiful location! We enjoyed the various dishes. We took 5 courses and were pleasantly surprised. If I may give one small point of criticism, I missed a little bit of extra bonding and attention from our waitress. She did her job well, but could have been a little more personal in my opinion. Ask if we are here for the first time, what brings us here, or ask if you can surprise us with ... because you really shouldn't miss that if you have been to The Bishop. A little more attention to service will enhance the experience even more. The toilet could also use a makeover, but does not detract from the overall atmosphere that this building brings. But we will definitely come back!

Yesterday the annual Christmas dinner. With the absolute highlights being the pigeon and the parsnip ice cream. And right on my own street! Class.

5 out of 5 STARS! Seriously, this is now a yearly tradition to visit with my brother. We received a warm welcome. Luckily, there was a table available for 2 hrs. We sat down and requested the delicous Pinotage Wine from South Africa. My favourite wine 🍷 😋 We were offered a 4 course tasting menus that suits with the wine. AND OMG, it was FAN-TAS-TIC!! I would highly recommend this place for a Michellin Star 🌟 Be warned, for the quality and amazing atmosphere, it will cost more than an average restaurant. 😉 Still highly recommened! Soon we are coming back!

I was invited to this restaurant for my birthday and it was just great. We had four courses, all vegetarian at our request. All dishes were balanced by the flavours and unfolded the strengths of the individual components. Each course created a new climax. The service was also excellent - attentive and at the same time not "over-present". The ambience, the atmosphere and the furnishings are very coherent. Everything fits. It's an upscale restaurant with a great overall experience without being pretentious.

Yesterday I had dinner here with my boyfriend for his birthday. The food was excellent and with each course we received a good wine that matched the dish perfectly. The atmosphere was very nice and the staff was great and relaxed. Dietary requirements are also taken into account. We are glad we had an evening out here, and certainly hope to come back again!

Komen hier al jaren met enige regelmaat. Is en blijft één van onze favorieten in Leiden. Heerlijk eten, ontspannen sfeer, goeie wijn, fijne bediening, altijd top.

Afgelopen zondag 6 gangen diner gedaan. Echt genoten van alle gerechten en de bijzonder gecombineerde smaken. En een top bediening. Zou het iedereen aanraden.

It is not easy to find a restaurant in the Netherlands where the staff is this professional and enthusiastic about their job. The food and atmosphere were amazing! For each dish, they explained what was in it and what type of flavors to expect. The wine pairing went really well with each dish as well. I highly recommend taking the night out and having a lovely date or gathering here! Highly highly recommend!

Me and my sister ordered the 4 dish menu.Everything was perfect (from the service to the atmosphere), only the ceviche seemed not fresh and was served warm. We were very surprised due to the good reviews we read on the internet and don’t think we will ever come back again.

Rustikales Restaurant mit sehr gutem schwedischen Essen und schnellem, netten Service. Es gibt zu jedem Gericht ein Bier- und eine Weinempfehlung. Gerne wieder.

Dit was oprecht genieten! Wij waren met een grote groep van 22 mensen, waarbij alles uitstekend verliep. Geen moment zat je zonder drankje en het eten werd vrijwel tegelijk geserveerd. Het 6 gangen diner was ontzettend lekker en is een aanrader voor een avondje gezelligheid. Elk gerecht was uitstekend van smaak. Hier zal ik zeker nog eens terug komen.

Heel duur. geen dessert onder de €10, wijn €7,5 per glas en hoofdgrrecht €30 a €40. Zelfs de starters kosten €18. Goed restaurant, behoort bij de top in Leiden, al vaak geweest, maar deze prijsstijgingen slaan helemaal nergens meer op.

Really unique restaurant with a totally special kind of 4/5 or 6 course surprising menu chosen by the kitchen chief. Extremely friendly and pleasant staff that reads your wishes from your lips. Definitely recommend this to anybody who's looking for a special and unforgettable night.

Met een vriendin wezen uit eten bij The Bishop. Dit gezellige restaurant is gevestigd in een schitterend historisch pand in het oude centrum van Leiden. Gekozen voor het Chefs menu met een bijpassend wijnarrangement. De smaaksensatie, die de hele avond duurde, begon al met een overheerlijk amuse. Elke gang werd geserveerd met een heerlijke bijpassende wijn waarbij steeds iets werd verteld over de herkomst van de wijn. Iedere gang was een verrassende smaakpapillen sensatie en watertandend lekker. Na bijna 4 uur kwam er helaas een einde aan de geweldige en overheerlijk avond bij The Bishop. Complimenten voor Jim en zijn keukenbrigade, Mello en Lisa met hun staff; zij hebben met elkaar onze avond tot een feestje gemaakt!!!
