I was expecting worse, given the reviews shared by others. The prices aren't excessive, but don't expect haute cuisine. We'd barely finished eating when our plates were taken away. Thirty seconds later, someone came by to try and remove our unfinished drinks. Another thirty seconds later, they came back to clean the table, even though we still hadn't finished our drinks (a way of letting us know we were bothering them). Avoid this place if you're not in a hurry.

Not for solo travellers, they won't offer lunch for you if you are alone

The Croque Vega was delicious. The cappuccino and orange juice were also very tasty. The service was very friendly. We highly recommend a visit.

Sharing this review too late but this place was incredible! The food was absolutely delicious, was only here for 5 days and had to eat here for 4 out of the 5 because it kept us coming back. I service was so sweet and welcoming, they really made us feel comfortable and did not rush or force us to leave. Extremely patience when we took forever to decide. When I come back to Amsterdam, this is were I am going for breakfast and lunch again! Amazing, there is not one bad thing to say. Toilets were clean and modern, and the owners let us use as we walked back that way as me and my friends couldn’t find a place. Owner was a dream 🙌🏾

Do keep in mind, however, that it can sometimes be busy, which actually shows just how popular the place is. The service is friendly, attentive, and fast. The staff is hospitable and ensures that you feel truly welcome. They take their time with you and everything is taken care of neatly. The food is top quality. I had brioche toast and the Chicken Quake Mill sandwich; both were deliciously tender, fresh, and full of flavor. The drinks also complete the experience, such as the freshly squeezed orange juice and a delicious, fresh smoothie. Absolutely a 5-star experience!

The food was bad, just a cheap toasted sandwich burnt with an egg on top and some lettuce, and it cost me a total of 47 euros to have lunch there for two. I am never going to eat there again.

Big scam! They use the cheapest bread from Albert Heijn (€0.90) and it's half-burnt. I ordered a brioche and it was completely hard and dry. Don't go!! Walk further and you'll find better places.

We had a great brunch here 2 weeks ago! The BLT breakfast sandwich was so delicious and we paired it with a cappuccino. A hearty portion and very affordable. Staff was wonderful too. We ate at one of the few tables outside. Nice atmosphere. Hope to come back again.

I had the burrata sandwich and the chai latte which was delicious. The price is fair for the amount you get. BUT the price of the drinks isn't written, which kind of annoys me. Nevertheless, I would recommend going there.

I never leave opinions, but this one really got me mad, At 13:00 they ran out of bunch of stuff, half the menu wasn’t available. Also they gave us an Allergen menu, and said only 3 items had nuts, but apparently they don’t know what their bread contains so they told us all the bread had nuts (even when their allergen menu doesn’t state that!!) and all of these in a 30min wait to just tell us that they didn’t had what we ordered or that the sandwiches had nuts. We were starving at this point

Delicious lunch. We had the BLT and chicken breast with avocado. We specifically requested brown bread.

I came to this restaurant with some friends during our vacation in Amsterdam. The service was very quick and the waiter friendly. I can recommend the spinach quiche with the salad. My friends had sandwiches and they quite liked them too, especially since they’re warm. The music is ambient but not too loud. There is an upstairs area and it’s a simple but cute restaurant with good food.

I ordered a hamburger here, and it was a ready-made hamburger from the supermarket. It had no sauce and the flavor was completely lacking. Tables next to us had also left their food. Not a success.

The meal was really subpar. There was no sauce in the burger. The advertised fries were actually potato chips. The waiter was grumpy. He didn't give us the correct change (beware of scams).

Unfortunately, our experience was disappointing. The waiter greeted us in a rather unfriendly manner. We ordered two grilled cheese toasts with pesto and tomato, but the quality did not meet expectations. The food was not only underwhelming in taste, but also poorly presented and looked like very little effort had been put into it. Considering that we paid 34€ for two simple toasts and two cappuccinos, the price-performance ratio is very poor. Overall, we cannot recommend this place.

Great food, plenty of choice and a cozy place

The place isn’t as bad as everyone makes it out to be. The water was nice, food came quickly. Simple place for lunch or breakfast.

We had delicious sandwiches outside at the Nine Streets. It was a very busy day, though, and the staff was understaffed, so we had to wait half an hour for our sandwiches.

Waiter is NOT nice, and food is nothing special. The waiter told me I couldn’t open my laptop there because it was not a coffee shop (after 15 minutes of arrival in which I first ate eggs and coffee, and I was about to order something else which of course I didn’t). There were 3 tables empty. There were no restaurant rules or sign about this posted anywhere. Go somewhere else, there are many other nicer options on the same street!

Small & fine & very tasty - super toasts

I walked into this restaurant with a smile, simply to ask if the food was halal. The response I received shocked me deeply. The tone was aggressive, almost contemptuous, as if my question had no right to be asked. I felt rejected, judged, and frankly hurt. It's sad to experience this in Amsterdam, such an open city. I wouldn't wish anyone to feel this way because of a simple question about their food.

The place in general is fine no big deal about the food and atmosphere. But the waiter would have been nicer if he can smile a bit. And it all gets worse when we (4 persons) wanted to pay separately and he says if you do that we have to add 1€ per person, I said I never heard about that before, he replied everyone has his own rules(super rude).

I liked my food and the service, unlike what many of the reviews state, was actually pretty speedy. Seems like there has been a new team since three months ago.

Toos en Roos is onlangs overgenomen door 3 broers en het is een absolute aanrader. Geweldige service, fantastisch eten met zorg en liefde bereidt en zeer hygiensisch. Ik zou het iedereen aanraden. Prijs- kwaliteit ook top! Dankjewel voor de super ervaring

cheese is a supplement for a hamburger hamburger and chips is actually served with chips and not fries and the hamburger was really dry with very few sauce and overcooked meat for a 5€ orange juice i am frustrated lol for a 45€ total i’m disappointed

It's expensive for what it is. Disappointed with the burger because it was dry, not much flavor, but especially the fries are not fries but everyday chips.

Cute little lunch stop. Cosy place but excellent food and drinks. Tuna sandwich and tortilla chips with guacamole were excellent. Fresh orange juice squeezed on the spot.

Lunchbar in de toeristische buurt. Niet erg verfijnd noch gezellig, maar je zit er rustig en je kan er even op adem komen tijdens het stadsbezoek. Burger wordt geserveerd met droge chips, niet erg smakelijk. Soep was wel erg lekker. Vrij prijzig, zoals overal in Amsterdam. Waarschijnlijk kun je beter lunchen, maar hier had je tenminste geen lange wachtrij. Geen aanrader voor wie fijn wil eten in een gezellig kader, maar deze zaak pretendeert dit ook niet.

Loved this place. Actually came here twice because it was so good (: We tried the English breakfast, pancakes with and without banana, the croque monsieur and the toos&roos club sandwich. All of it was delicious! The waiters was very sweet and polite! If you are in that area I‘d definitely recommend this place for breakfast, brunch or lunch!

Our most recent experience in Toos&Roos was extremely frustrating! We’ve visited about six times now and aside from this, every time has been fantastic! We always get the same dish which is usually pretty consistent (the Dutch Lunch with soup, bread, cheese, salad and bitterballen). After waiting over thirty minutes for the soup, it arrived - with no bitterballen but with mini sausages instead. When we asked about this, the staff member informed us that there weren’t any bitterballs left (it was 10am) - which we would have appreciated knowing before ordering as it’s the main reason we go so often! As I don’t eat pork I did ask what was in the sausages but he didn’t seem to know (no translation issue as he was English), so I was unable to eat those. The soup was also pretty cold and bread tasted stale - which just isn’t what we expected from somewhere we usually love! Unfortunately the staff weren’t as friendly as usual and the music didn’t have the most welcoming atmosphere this time. Really sad that we won’t be rushing back here - as it used to be our absolute favourite! (IMAGE BELOW IS NOT FROM OUR MOST RECENT VISIT)

Toos&Roos has potential, but the service could be faster. The flavors are good, but there’s room for improvement. Overall, a decent experience, but not quite as exceptional as expected.

Great food and nice service, just a bit slow so you wait a bit

Wir hatten ein Club-Sandwich, Englisches Frühstück und Pancakes. Obwohl das Lokal nur halb gefüllt war mussten wir lange warten. Alles sah sehr appetitlich aus. Leider war es geschmacklich nicht sehr gut. Insbesondere die Pancakes waren grässlich und schmeckten nur nach Mehl. Aber auch die anderen Gerichte waren ziemlich geschmacklos. Wir haben schon deutlich besser in Cafés gefrühstückt bei besserem Service. Die Mitarbeiter waren bemüht aber schienen etwas überfordert.

Absolutamente increíble joyita escondida con la que nos topamos. Pedido 2 Desayuno inglés completo. Vino con tostadas, té y jugo de naranja. Perfecto. Personal acogedor, lindo y encantador. No puedo pedir más.

This restaurant is an absolute disgrace and a disgrace for the catering industry! We had sat down at a table and wanted to order when suddenly a group of women who had arrived clearly after us were given priority and served immediately. That alone was incredibly disrespectful. But then an extremely arrogant and incredibly rude waiter came, put a reservation sign on our table without comment and said in a derogatory tone that we had to vacate the table because it was supposedly reserved - of course we weren't told that beforehand! The whole interaction was characterized by a coldness and condescension that I have never experienced before. This so-called service is an absolute disaster. No one should ever set foot here if they value respect, hospitality and good service. This behavior is not only unprofessional, but downright disgusting. I seriously hope that there are consequences for this behavior - because that was abysmal! That waiter should have been spit in the face, but I wasn't about to trash a store over a leek.

The waiter in this shop was an absolute disgrace and should urgently consider another career choice. From the first contact, he had an incredibly condescending and disrespectful manner that could immediately spoil your appetite. While we politely waited to place our order, he was more occupied with looking at his phone and having loud private conversations with colleagues. But it gets worse: When we politely asked for a little more time, he gave us an annoyed look, mumbled something incomprehensible and simply disappeared. Later, we even heard him making derogatory comments about us in a corner of the restaurant that he apparently thought were funny. I have never experienced such behavior in my entire life - absolutely unprofessional, disrespectful and simply unbelievable. This waiter is the epitome of bad gastronomy. I will never enter this store again!

The Chicken Guacamole Sourdough Sandwich was amazing.

We went for brunch, we tried the sandwiches and they were very delicious, the portions of the dishes are large. It is a small but cozy place, we feel that they take their time to make the food well and that is reflected in the flavor.

Food was a little dry, especially the club sandwich. The waiter was a little confused and forgot or didn't realize a few things. The restaurant itself is rather small and is furnished okay. The toilet is rather unhygienic and small. But still, looking at the whole stay, it was small and nice.🥰

Unfortunately I was not allowed to order. We sat outside and saw that it was busy, which doesn't hurt of course. Inside they said that we would have to wait a while but that we could order a drink. After waiting 15-20 minutes for the menu to order a drink, we continued to the bar next door. We can understand the crowds and waiting is not a problem, but please try to give us the menu as you suggested!

This is a lovley little place for a good breakfast. You get a quite big amout of food for a good price. The food is delicious and served in a very cute way :-) The staff is friendly. Only the tabels could be a bit bigger and the Room may should be renovated.

Small restaurant for a leisurely (but fortunately quick) lunch. Compared to the other restaurants nearby, it is quite cheap with a good selection. The dishes are lovingly prepared and the salad is very fresh. It was quite empty and we were served very lovingly even shortly before closing time. It seems a little dark, but it's worth it.

Very cozy place! Nice service, a bit unkempt (I don't need to see the underpants...) I was really looking forward to the old cheese sandwich; unfortunately no pickle, no mustard. 3 slices of sticky (not old) cheese on a bun with mayonnaise. Very sorry! It was immediately taken from the bill and given a smoothie, so the service was absolutely excellent. Croque madame: simple sandwich without béchamel sauce. Tasted fine. I wouldn't eat there again. Too expensive lunch for just a little too little quality.
