Lekker eten en vriendelijk personeel. Zou er zo weer terugkomen. Kom er ook wel vaker. Raad het zeker aan om keer langs te komen

Ongelooflijk mooi en lekker, ik deed mee aan de actie "Dining with the Stars" dat betekend dat dit Restaurant dicht bij een Michelin Sterretje zit, nou, die mogen ze nu wel geven hoor, het eten was heel mooi opgemaakt, kunstwerkjes, en echt heel lekker. Ik werd geholpen door de eigenaar zelf, Dhr. Wing met de bekende Oosterse vriendelijkheid. En wat voor mij heel belangrijk is: het was heel betaalbaar, vier tientjes in een mooie zaak als dit in het Centrum van Rotterdam is echt uniek. Voor herhaling vatbaar hoor!

Ik zag in de Michelin guide dat dit restaurant een Bib Gourmand menu serveerde. Na een korte blik op het menu, gelijk gereserveerd. De presentatie van de gerechten was op sommige momenten heel verfijnd en op andere momenten totaal niet. De smaken waren lekker! Ik gok dat de chef radijsjes lekker vond.

Hier haben wir einen netten und lockeren Abend verbracht, toller und sehr freundlicher Service mit sehr guten Gerichten zu vernünftigen Preisen! Die Küche ist hervorragend und die Anrichteweise der Speisen sehr gut. Wir kommen gerne wieder!

De menu is heel uitgebreid. Het eten is uitstekend lekker. Het personeel is heel vriendelijk. Het is een echte aanrader!

Bij binnenkomst had ik even mijn twijfels als waren die op niets gebaseerd. We werden uiterst vriendelijk begroet en naar ons tafel gebracht en alles werd goed uitgelegd. We kregen echt aandacht van het personeel en voelde op ons gemak. Het eten zal er niet alleen heerlijk uit maar smaakte verrukkelijk. Zeker voor herhaling vatbaar!!!! Complimenten voor jullie

We hebben echt heerlijk gegeten en een hele leuke avond gehad bij Umami. Het culinaire gecombineerd met de Aziatische keuken viel bij ons gehele gezelschap erg goed in de smaak. Verder was het personeel vriendelijk en gastvrij en de prijs/kwaliteit verhouding zeer goed! We komen graag nog een keer terug bij Umami!

Super goede sfeer. Fijne bediening. Daarnaast ook gewoon heerlijk gegeten. Het volle 5 gangen gerecht is aan te raden.

Lo pasamos muy bien aquí. Deliciosa comida a precios justos. Puede recomendar todo, mariscos, carne y opciones vegetarianas. Después de tres platos, todos estarán felices.

Een erg leuk restaurant, met heerlijke gerechten. Smaakcombinaties zijn fantastisch en shared dining maakt het mogelijk van bijna de gehele kaart te eten. Bediening is vriendelijk. Adres om terug te komen...

Delicious food and quick service.

Ordered six dishes: white fish, butter chicken, rendang beef, eggplant beef, ginger chicken and prawn curry. White fish tasted ok but batter was cold and soft. Butter chicken was cooked well but no real powerful flavour. Rendang beef was good but again lacking in flavour. The eggplant dish was good, nothing wrong with it but not outstanding. Ginger chicken did not have any ginger taste at all though again was cooked well. Prawn curry was probably the best, nice flavour. The other main issue was the service and communication. Was asked if we wanted the dishes in two stages so that we could eat the food whilst it was hot and gladly accepted, but instead it was brought all at once so most of it was cold by the time we ate it. Lastly I explained to the waiter that the food wasn’t up to Bib Gourmand level expectations and was told the A La Carte menu isn’t Bib Gourmand, only the ‘Bib Gourmand’ menu is of the level. It makes sense apart from the fact their menu states ‘our passion comes to life in our special Bib Gourmand menu, created after we proudly received the Bib Gourmand award’ suggesting their menu was already Bib Gourmand. I didn’t question it as I didn’t want to debate any further. I don’t doubt that other dishes may have been a lot better and maybe the staff had an off day but today wasn’t as good as I hoped. The feedback was listened to at the table but I feel there was not much care, with the waiter walking away as they said thank you for having us. Edit: I have since checked the menu and all the Bib Gourmand menu dishes appear to be on the A La Carte as well, so I can’t see the waiters explanation making any sense.

Tried the social menu style with my sister and we had a great time enjoying all the different foods. For a Michelin restaurant I am impressed with the value of food you get for such a small price, worth it.

Thanks to the team at Umami Rotterdam and, foremost, to the HR manager Willem at Han Group (the mother company of Umami). I had reserved a table for Valentine’s Day, but unfortunately, my wife got sick, and we couldn’t attend our dinner. I then tried to arrange an Umami@Home kit and reached out to the HR manager to ask about it. He kindly looked into what he could do for us that same day, but unfortunately, it was too late due to the busy Valentine’s Day rush. However, he suggested that I book a new date for our dinner, assuring me that he would take care of it—and that’s exactly what he did! I contacted him again today to confirm our plans, and he arranged everything with Umami Rotterdam. What a surprise! When we arrived at Umami, the atmosphere was amazing. The host welcomed us warmly and guided us to our table. The level of service and hospitality was outstanding—you could tell that they truly have the right experience. The food was absolutely magnificent—so delicious! The guest lady who served us was also fantastic. And to make things even better, we received a beautiful bouquet from the house. What an unforgettable experience! This was my second time at Umami, and it certainly won’t be the last. See you again soon, guys

Geschäftlich dort. 4 Gang Menü vorbestellt incl Allergieinformationen. Ja man bemerkt die Michelin Hinweise. Teller mit schön arrangierten Gerichten. Dh ein paar Tröpfchen, Blütenblätter, Sprossen, immer irgendein Crunch und eine Creme oder Püree. Variationen vom rohen Fisch, Kalb, Schwein, Garnelen und ein Papaya Nachtisch mit Schichtkuchen. Ja lecker, aber, es sollte nicht abgeräumt werden wenn noch Leute essen. Etwas mehr Freundlichkeit beim Kellner, besonders wenn man auf die Allergie hinweist. Und Garnelen noch mit Schale gebraten ist nicht toll mit Stäbchen und auf den Tisch geworfene Erfrischungstücher. Naja, trotzdem noch 4 Sterne für Preis Leistung.

I took the 4-course Bib Gourmand menu (8 different dishes) with matching wine... Fantastic.. Cost 85 euros (with mineral water it makes 0.75lt)

The food was very tasty anyway, but the service certainly deserves praise as well. Expert, relaxed and with humor. The location in the city center is great and the atmosphere was very pleasant. We, a couple with a 12-year-old daughter, will definitely come back.

I won’t come here again for the cuisine nor for the service. If you are looking for an overpriced restaurant with mediocre food, go for it

Reasonably tasty food, but the portions are very small, for 3 courses and 45,- pp. you don't expect to leave with a half empty stomach.... The food came quickly enough. The tables are very close together for a restaurant in this price range and the service was dressed too casually. As far as we are concerned, there is room for improvement...

Amazing experience, very good food and amazing flavors. We will definitely come back here. We had an early reservation which us great service, we did notice that as it became busier the service did slow down. So I would recommend coming here on time.

The fish was dry, the man was not nice

Sadly changed from our experience here this time last year. The staff were new to the job and the restaurant. They did not know the wine or the food - we were served the wrong wine, and when asked the waitress was unable to identify the fish she had just placed in front of us. The salmon we were served was simply not good, and we all left, after two and a half hours of extremely slow service, feeling bloated from the sweetness of the food, but hungry because of the lack of satisfying flavour.

Lovely concept, great way to taste different dishes. Food was fantastic. Also very kind and helpful staff, if you listen to the recommendations from Alex, you will enjoy your food for sure! Only improvement would be to have more ambient lighting.

After a long time we visited Umami again yesterday. The waitress is friendly, helpful and funny. Food is delicious and we will definitely come back.

In principle, we came here quite regularly, but after not being there for a while, we booked again. Unfortunately, the dishes on the menu do not change and we were outside again within an hour/an hour and a half. We had booked because we like to linger a little longer, but the dishes came very quickly one after the other. So we finished all courses including dessert in less than an hour. I also thought the last course tasted the least, very tasteless, which is a shame for a quite high bill. The last time for us for now. Plus point - the staff explains everything neatly.

Incredible food and service. Ordered about 24 items (they're all small plates) among 3 very hungry individuals with alcohol. Every single thing was top notch.

Bib gourmand meny was a creative experience and value for money. Fresh, modern and felt healthy. First time I tried tea pairing, really a good alternative when you are driving but still want to enhance the eating experience. Young and vibrant environment. I have been there for lunch before. That was also really good. The staff was excellent.

Vriendelijk bediening in een mooi ogende zaak. Jammer dat bij het binnenkomen onze plaats niet vrij was, terwijl het restaurant halfvol zat. Het zou voor dit restaurant goed zijn om nog meer verschillende menuformules aan te bieden, want voor ons was het sociaal menu al teveel om op te krijgen. Voor grote eters bestaat de mogelijk wel om extra gangen te nemen. Nog spijtiger vonden wij dat het niveau per ronde minder werd. en het eten bij elke gang eentoniger werd. Als je dan al teveel gegeten hebt en dan niet voldoende meer getrieerd wordt door de gerechten die nog kwamen, dan heb je volgens mij een probleem. Op zich zeer jammer, want er zijn weinig restaurants die deze kwaliteit van producten aanbieden en deze dan nog zo perfect garen. Het umami gevoel om alles in balans te brengen is dus aanwezig, maar onvoldoende uitdagend om het tot de laatste gan boeiend te houden. Een gang viel zelfs volledig tegen en bleef een vettige onaangename smaak van tempura in de mond hangen. Geen idee waarom dit eethuis zo goed scoort, maar mogelijk liggen onze normen qua eten toch nog iets hoger. En daar kan Michelin niks aan veranderen.

We ordered two dishes. One with rice and the other one with noodles. Food was surprisingly good. Trying Asian food during our European trip is weird. But we found this restaurant good. Very good Ambience, yes costly but not like other rich restaurants. They have a neat washroom as well. Well maintained and good service. Recommended.

Bib Gourmand: small dishes for gourmets. You can choose from a chef's menu of 3 or 4 courses or choose the dishes yourself. Matching wines per course. Friendly service and special dietary requirements possible. But the service was not at the level you would expect. The serving of wine and dishes could have been better coordinated, a number of times we already had a dish but no wine yet. There was also a lot of time between serving the courses (4 hours for 4 courses). It looked chaotic. If you have an allergy, please mention this and pay close attention to what you get on your plate. So I got a dish that did not take my allergies into account, sloppy. But afterwards it was resolved by offering the desert for free. The restaurant is dated, not nicely decorated, very noisy (it echoes) and looks like a fast food restaurant. Your clothes also smell like food (grease?) when you leave the restaurant. Not what you expect from a Bib Gourmand restaurant and certainly not for that price. Very pricey and not a special experience. The food was fine, but a lot of the same flavors. Positive note: you can enjoy a long meal (so take your time, you will be there for 4 hours) and the presentation of the dishes was beautiful.

Disappointing experience - not worth repeating I have rarely had such a bad experience in a restaurant as here. From the moment we walked in, everything felt chaotic and disorganized. The service, which was absolutely not at the level you would expect from a restaurant in this price range. We had a reservation for 8 people, but the staff seemed to have little patience for waiting until everyone was complete. When we were complete the staff indicated we had not informed them we were complete which was very frustrating. It seemed like we were being blamed for the delay. The waiter who helped us clearly didn't feel like doing his job. He was curt and when we wanted to order drinks we were told that we were "complicated". It seemed like every question was a big deal, and there wasn't a smile or a kind word to be seen. Even when the food was served, there was no explanation whatsoever. The plates were simply put down, without anyone telling us what exactly was on it or how it was prepared. In many restaurants of this level, attention is paid to the presentation of the dishes, and it is normal for the staff to guide you through the culinary experience. However, we got nothing here. The lack of staff involvement, along with minimal contact during the evening, made the whole experience feel flat and uninspired. You expect a lot more if you choose a restaurant that profiles itself as high-quality. Although the food was "ok", the evening was largely ruined by the poor service and lack of explanation. For these kinds of prices you can certainly expect more. I would therefore not recommend this restaurant.

I've wanted to go here for a long time, and I finally went. But what a disappointment! It wasn't bad per se, but I expected a lot more, considering the Bib Gourmand. The interior is very austere and feels simple, cheap, old and dirty. The smell was very overpowering when we entered and, even more so, when we were outside again. You stink in the wind for an hour, just like at an all-you-can-eat sushi place. The service was friendly, but no one spoke a word of Dutch and everything took a very long time. They make no effort to make regular contact or to ask if everything is okay or if you would like something to drink. Then the dishes. Well, the concept of shared dining is great, tasting different flavors. I love it, just like tapas, but you have to fill in the details on a piece of paper which dishes you want. Not really luxurious, as you might expect. It takes half an hour for them to collect your card. We were still enthusiastic during the first round, but the second round tasted almost the same. Many dishes had the same soy sauce or teriyaki sauce, and used the same ingredients: red cabbage, radish, small mushrooms, cress, kidney beans, cucumber and lettuce. Again, it wasn't bad, but you expect each round to have different and constructively different flavors. Many dishes were fried, terrible! The chicken and tenderloin were of poor quality, with nasty lumps of fat on them! Bah! And then everything that really matters: Umami, I didn't notice much of it, no one said anything about it…. Everything is served with a dollop of sauce. I'm curious what makes the taste, E621? Dessert was tasty and special. To be honest, I found it very disappointing. It was slightly better than the average sushi place or Japanese teppanyaki, but falls into the same category, once but never again!

Very fair price-quality relation. The Bib gourmand tasting menu seemed much better than the vegetarian option. Some flavours and ingredients preparation seemed repeated. The Bib gourmand menu tasted overall very good with ok presentation. Attentive service. The space was a bit crowded but not too excessively. Recommended 👍 but not a transformative experience

Had dinner my partner at Umami by Han, the staff is involved and polite and made my birthday extra special! Food was incredible and the cozy corner table made our dinner for two a perfect night out.

We went to eat here enthusiastically for the first time. But found the food mediocre, pricey and cold. Also had to wait a long time for cutlery because the waiter forgot to bring it. Chocolate mousse was so sour that I left it alone. Really a shame!

It has been a favorite restaurant of ours since the beginning about 13 years ago. Always surprising, delicious flavors and pleasant service, who recognized and greeted us upon arrival. Now we have to go into a time lock of about 2 hours! We really think it's a shame that when you go out to eat, you are tied to a time! Very annoying to have to pay attention to the time when you are having a nice meal! This time we said no and therefore did not make a reservation! Too bad after so many years of being a loyal customer at Umami.

Beautiful restaurant in the heart of Rotterdam. There is a very nice and relaxed atmosphere. Helpful and friendly staff. The delicious 5-course menu that you can put together yourself (and share with your date) with a wide choice of dishes was very pleasant. The food and wine were good. The service was top notch. However, the food was just not enough for us (even in between courses). I also thought the desserts could have been a little bigger, but they were still very tasty!

Had dinner here with a group of friends (from BIB Gourmand Menu). The food is of very good quality, some dishes did not stand out but were very tasty. Not much bad to say about the food. We had people with allergies. This was clearly stated in advance. Still went wrong several times (even after 2 repairs) with gaits. Which is very bad considering the consequences of such an allergic reaction. Fortunately we were on our toes. Also several times dishes did not show up (even after indicating several times) or only when everyone and everything had finished. The same happened with the wine arrangement. Which was often only served later than the food. We found the time between dishes far too long. We sat there for more than 4 hours for only 4 courses… Around 10:30 PM, many of the staff went home or turned off their gas, because after that the service at the table became even worse. Then we decided to leave and leave the rest for what it is. We had heard a lot of good things, but the evening was a real disappointment and quite disappointing, partly due to the very poor service. The interior design and atmosphere are just fine.

Had our weddingday lunch at Umami and it was a great success. All of our guests enjoyed themselves. My husband and I were very pleased with the selection of food and ofcourse the taste. Most definitely recommended this restaurant.

De formule die ze geven dat je van iedere gang per persoon 2 gerechten mag kiezen is goed gevonden. Zo kan je van alle gerechten proeven. De gerechten waar allemaal zeer verfijnd en lekker. Verschillende smaken bij elkaar gebracht voor een top geheel.

Quite disappointed by this restaurant. I had good expectations as I think it's also on the Michelin guide, but they weren't matched. The service was great, very friendly and qualified personnel. One of the best service I have experienced in the Netherlands. What was highly disappointing was the food. The menu looks very interesting, but the food wasn't as interesting as you would think. The dishes almost all tasted the same, with an excessive use of simple sauces (like mayo or soya sauce) that were covering all the other flavors. Basically the preparation of the dish was unbalanced and thus the food quite dull. The cost was also quite high and the food is incomparable to other restaurant that costs the same. The acoustic of the place it's also poor, making conversations difficult. Not recommended

Zaterdagavond temidden van het voetbaltumult op de markt hier in de luwte gegeten met 2 buitenlandse gasten en het was weer een feest. Het 3-gangen social meal is een fijn concept om te delen met vrienden, grote varieteit aan gerechtjes en smaakjes, heel artistiek opgemaakt, en voor minder dan 40€ heel betaalbaar. En we dronken er een mooie Spaanse Godello bij: precies in de prik. Mijn gasten waren onder de indruk dat je zo mooi en spannend kunt eten in Rotterdam tegen een betaalbare prijs. Toen we binnenkwamen stond de muziek wat luid, waardoor iedereen vanzelf harder ging praten, en dat maakte het wel rumoerig. Op verzoek werd de muziek zachter gezet, en je kon weer een normaal gesprek voeren. Dank daarvoor.

Nog niet eerder op deze manier kennisgemaakt met de Aziatische keuken en wat ben ik positief verrast! De bediening is ontzettend vriendelijk, ze laten je welkom voelen en leggen alles erg goed uit. We kozen voor het social dining menu en hoewel we niet alles even lekker vonden (kwestie van smaak), waren het echt kleine smaakexplosies in je mond. Superzachte coquilles, overheerlijke mango garnalen en erg lekkere gyoza en zo kan ik nog wel even doorgaan. Echt een hele fijne avond gehad en ik raad Umami absoluut aan!

This is a nice restaurant with a brilliant menu - we went for the menu where you choose your dishes and it is good value for the amount of food you get. The options were well thought out and all of the meat was really tender. We also enjoyed the veggie gyoza a lot 🥟 The rendang dish was cold which was a shame and some of the dishes had halved cherry tomatoes/sliced radish on - they didn't compliment the flavours and looked a bit messy.

The atmosphere is modern and stylish, perfect for a night out with friends or a special occasion. The menu is creative, featuring a variety of dishes that are both visually stunning and delicious. The flavors are bold and well-balanced, showcasing the chef's expertise. However, I am giving it a 4 out of 5 stars because the service, while friendly, was a bit slow during our visit. Additionally, some of the dishes, although tasty, had more of a mainstream flavor profile than expected. Another issue was the presence of flies in the dining area, which were a bit bothersome while eating. Despite these minor issues, the overall experience was very enjoyable, and I would still highly recommend Umami by Han for anyone looking to try unique and flavorful Asian fusion cuisine in Rotterdam.

Delicious food. Fantastic dishes. Social dinner, but also all other variants are recommended. The service was nice and polite. The problem was that we wanted to sit inside because of the wind, but the temperature was almost unbearable. Way too hot. Apparently they are not allowed to install air conditioning, but I wouldn't go there on a summer day anyway.

Delicious food. Small dishes that were very tasty. Very friendly service. As is often the case nowadays, everything is in English, but I personally have no problem with that. A bit noisy because there was a large family with screaming children, but the restaurant itself cannot do anything about that.

Delicious Japanese dishes, both meat, fish and vegetarian. Two dishes per course, so plenty to choose from and taste. Refined flavors and beautifully presented. Super nice service. Nice planning of time between courses. Two downsides: Water pricey, €6.25 per bottle Very warm in the front part of the restaurant, no air conditioning. Otherwise top 👍.

We hebben enorm genoten van een heerlijke avond! We kozen voor social dining menu. Werkelijk ALLES was zeer lekker! De bediening was zeer vriendelijk en zeer professioneel! Dankjewel voor deze aangename ervaring! We komen zeker terug!

Das Restaurant ist groß, laut und stimmungsvoll! Und das Essen ist sehr abwechslungsreich und köstlich! Chinesische Fusion Küche auf hohem Niveau! Einziger Wermutstropfen ist der zeitliche Ablauf. 1h für den ersten Gang und 30 Min. für den 2. Gang ist dann doch etwas viel. Und da hilft es nicht, das der 3. und 4. Gang kurz hintereinander gekommen sind. Meine Empfehlung wäre es um 18:00 oder erst nach 20:30 zu kommen. Und bestellt eine Flasche Wein - die begleitenden Weine passen bedauerlicherweise nur bedingt ideal zum Essen!

Wasn't made feel welcome from the start. My waiter didn't seem pleased that I came in looking for a table for one... Quite intolerant. Stuck me on the long high table ony Todd. No help from quite a confusing menu. Waiter was impatient and condescending. Walked out after two attempts of asking to understand the menu. Turns out I have to order 3 courses to dine here. Hurrah! Could have enjoyed that. Pity... but staff need to improve attitude

Will not return. Do not recommend. Service is bad, in particular the male staff who was rude since the moment we walked in til the end. Food was sub-par. Not worth the price.

Food and service were amazing. However the place was extremely warm, and no AC.

Despite the nice concept and some delicious dishes, the price-quality ratio was disappointing. The staff was friendly, but the experience was disappointing. Although the food was beautifully presented, it looked more like art than a filling meal. The portions were mediocre, and the time to wait between the different courses also took far too long. For a lower price you can enjoy much tastier food elsewhere at an all-you-can-eat restaurant.

We were working nearby and had read the reviews here that the food was very good. And yes, we can certainly confirm that I have not eaten out so well in a long time. The flavors fit together so beautifully and each course runs very nicely, on top of which there was a taste explosion with the third course. Really enjoyed it and will come back again soon to taste the other dishes!

Perhaps we had too high expectations for the bib gourmand menu, but we were a bit disappointed. I expected much better

This restaurant is located in the most central square in Rotterdam. Interesting Asian fusion approach in the courses. To be fair though, I expected more powerful flavors which make a guide restaurant to stand out.

Delicious food, the point of attention is the hustle and bustle of the service, everything is served quickly. A little more attention to hospitality would make it a top tent.

Umami Rotterdam Friendly service. Interior was disappointing. Food was fine, some dishes were very surprising and tasty. Other dishes were less so. If you are in a large group I wouldn't go here as the concept is shared dining and the portions are on the small side. I can recommend this restaurant.

A promising concept yet a disappointing experience. A large variety of dishes of very uneven quality in terms of ingredients and taste. Good grades for the fried ginger chicken and the mushroom artichoke combination. Ceviche was quite nice. Conversely, shrimps were frozen and chewy rendering all shrimp based dishes mediocre. We had several mix ups during the service leading to additional waiting time with no apology… Improvemnts to be made to be worthy of a Michelin bib.

Rather disappointing dining experience at Umami. Had the sharing 3 course menu and dessert (the tiniest slice of cake I've ever had) and both my friend and I left the restaurant still hungry. And that was for 60 euros each. In addition the place looks quite worn, would expect a better atmosphere for these prices. Food quality and taste as well as the service were good, however.

This is truly my favorite restaurant. Always a nice atmosphere with very good service. Been here for lunch and for dinner and never disappointed. For the quality, the price is really very cheap. The dishes may seem small, but at the end you will be very full. The aniseed rolls that you get in advance are delicious. I would definitely recommend the umami duck and the panko scallops.

Beautiful place! We came for 3 course menu by a restaurant week and it was a masterpiece. A lot of different flavors, all kinds of seasoning and aesthetically appealing food. Every course consists of 2 options, so you try 6 on total. I was the most impressed by ginger chicken, so tender and juicy! And do not forget the service. Attentive, polite and friendly. Definitely highly recommend as an experience.

Nice concept. 3 or 4 courses where everyone can choose 2 dishes per course and the best part is that everything is very tasty. Recommended.

Really surprisingly delicious food...

Was here with 2 colleagues - none have tried it before but we were drawn by the positive reviews. It was crowded even on a weekday. We had the 3 course prie fixe - the food is refreshing, well prepared and tangentially Asian. Good play with ingredients and nice flavors.

Fantastic ramen and shared dining dishes and nice service. For people who do not drink alcohol, there is a very nice tea pairing, where a tea sommelier will explain the tea. Very nice! Only the lighting could be a bit more cozy.
