Vegan Africa Gouda in Binnenstad

Unique experience! Our hotel recommended for our daughter who is vegetarian. We all loved it. Very filling and satisfying. We shared the combination platter. Great African beer. Such a friendly owner as well. A must try for unique meal in Gouda, but owner mentioned they have other locations that serve meat as well (Amsterdam and other town).

Wow wow wow. This is an amazing place. People are very friendly and fun. The food is about the best I've had anywhere. If it's your first time, get the Combi - little bit of everything. Beer is drunk out of a kalebas, very fun.

Fresh, tasty, more than enough, varied, etc. The mango juice is also very tasty, but if you like beer or a liqueur, then definitely try it here. Beautiful homemade paintings on the wall. I wish we had more time. Next time we will definitely try the starters and desserts.

Fantastic vegetarian restaurant, authentic Eritrean cuisine. The whole picture is correct. Very tasty, even if you don't normally eat vegetarian. Also took the liqueur and ordered a bottle.

Amazing place for food. My friend and I had the combination dish with 2 beers and ice cream with fruits as dessert. The ambience , food and host were all top notch. It was a tasty hearty dinner. Loved the way the owner hosted us, his hardwork in the business shows. Recommended for everyone to visit this place when you are in Gouda...

Delicious food with great presentation, service and atmosphere. Lentil soup and combination platter were filling and tasty. If you order a beer, it is served in a coconut shell. I edited this review to mention that the vegan ice cream with fruit is also a good choice to end the meal (remember you ALWAYS have room for ice cream!). Very cute place, I wish we could take it home with us. We came to Gouda for the cheese, but the best part of our visit was actually this vegan restaurant!

Nice place for vegan east African food and drinks. My wife and I had the combination platter for 2 with 2 beers. The platter came with a serving of injeera bread. Recommend this place for dinner.

Yesterday we had a delicious vegan meal here with the two of us, we chatted with the host for a long time, nice man😊 We ate the chef's surprise combination. It was very tasty, definitely recommended 👍

Had dinner here on Friday. The chef's choice was a mix of super tasty vegetables with a kind of pancake, and the recommended dessert was fresh fruit with ice cream balls and their local liqueur. Wow. Everything was really wow. The service, the food, the Ethiopian beers. WOW It was also really nice to be able to eat with my hands. Big 5 stars in every area.

The owner served us for dinner and he was friendly and always anticipated our needs. The Ma Suwa bier is refreshing and flavorful. Pinda soep was so tasty and deliciously spicy. We shared (for 2) vegetarian combination which was generously portioned and with a variety of spices, textures, and use of vegetables. Also some extra injera on the side. The atmosphere was homely and felt very communal with other people dining around us. Thank you, and we look forward to our next visit!

Fun to experience. Especially if you have ever been to Africa. Simple vegetable dishes that you eat using your hands and a kind of pancake. Single dish is very boring. The tasting of all the dishes together (21.50 pp) makes it fun. Ober clearly enjoys his work. You drink your beer from a coconut shell. Beers are brewed especially for this restaurant with coconut, mango or banana flavors as an extra touch. Nice experience. Pleasant. And you eat something too.

18-06-2023 gegeten bij Vegan Africa. Interieur wat je verwacht voor een Afrikaans restaurant. Het restaurant heeft een menukaart, maar die is voor de sier. Je krijgt een grote schaal in het midden van de tafel om met z'n allen te delen. Het hele menu is vegan, een voordeel voor mensen met een bepaald dieet maar het nadeel vond ik dat de gerechten, ondanks dat alles goed was bereid, gekruid en op smaak was, wel erg op elkaar leken. Alle onderdelen waren terug te brengen naar gekookte / gebakken groenten in (vaak pittige) saus. Voor een keer aan te raden maar ondanks dat het erg lekker was zal ik niet snel terug gaan. Ook kijkende naar wat je krijgt voor de prijs die je moet betalen.

Fantastisch restaurant! De bediening en sfeer zijn echt geweldig! Beiden geef ik een 10! We zijn echt zo goed geholpen en het was ontzettend gezellig. Ik wilde hier al zo lang naar toe, maar het kwam er niet van. Maar...wel erg duur, mijn inziens. We eten regelmatig Afrikaans, we schrokken toch echt en gaan om deze reden niet meer terug. Wellicht kan mijn review gebruikt worden als opbouwende kritiek. Het zou zonde zijn als meer mensen niet meer teurg gaan vanwege deze reden. Het is op de prijs na echt een fantastisch restaurant. We aten hier op mijn verjaardag met 4 personen. We kregen een grote schaal eten, voor ieder een beetje linzen, spinazie, uien. Natuurlijk de injera erbij. We hebben hier extra van bijbesteld. Uiteindelijk moesten we 114 euro afrekenen. Als we kijken naar wat we gegeten hebben vinden we het toch heel prijzig. Terwijl Afrikaans eten normaliter betaalbaar is. Wij bestellen normaal nog graag bij gerechten of nagerechten. Ik ben blij dat we dat nu niet gedaan hebben. Ik vergelijk prijs technisch met wat we normaliter kwijt zijn als we Afrikaans eten en wat we kwijt zijn als we in een wat duurder restaurant eten. Dan hebben we toch meer eten voor dergelijk bedrag (ook meer gerechten) óf we zijn aanzienlijk minder kwijt.

We’ve been here twice now. The big pancake-like injera dish is delicious and a great experience. The last time we went with our friend and kids so they could enjoy a new cuisine and eating with their hands. I was a bit surprised that the fixed amount you pay per person was the same for adults and kids. Overall I can highly recommend, great place and people.

Nous y avons très bien mangé. Le patron nous a proposé un assortiment, un grand plat avec plusieurs choix ( lentilles, courgettes, champignons..) c était excellent. Même les enfants ont adoré. La décoration est delicate , la musique de fond très agréable. Nous y avons passé un très bon moment.

Great food and incredible friendly owner. Restaurant was full and they managed to serve us wonderful fresh dishes with just two of them and still delivering great service! A true gem!

I came here yesterday with my sister and cousin. Vegan Africa really did not disappoint! The food was absolutely delicious and the owner was very friendly towards us and the other visitors. There was a very nice atmosphere, very cosy and warm. After leaving the owner gave us a free beer he brew himself. Also very delicious! We’re definitely going to come back :-)

Delicious and plenty of food, which varies from mild to spicy. There's a choice of two soups as entrée, both of which are delicious. There's no menu for the main course and the chef always creates a surprising meal on the spot. The home brewed beers are recommended as well, from the lager to the fruit flavours, they go down very smoothly and adds to the flavour palate. I can recommend the Eritrean coffee as well. It's strong, but with a whiff of ginger. The owner is very friendly and ready to explain the food, talk about the origin, etc. Highly recommended restaurant for people looking for good vegan food with some spice added to it.

Het beste Ethiopische restaurant van Nederland (naast Thedros zijn andere restaurants). Alles is heerlijk! Van het zelfgebrouwen bier, tot de injera en shiro. Thedros is daarnaast ook een geweldige gastheer! Ik blijf maar terugkomen.
