Eaten together, everything took a very long time. Ordered a chicken satay sandwich; it was supposed to come with fried onions and prawn crackers. The latter two were missing, so I mentioned it. "I think it ran out," was the answer I received, "I will check." Didn't hear anything more about it; when paying the bill, she didn't ask about it or anything either. I advise you not to eat there. Bad service, no atmosphere, and you don't get what you ordered.

We sat outside on the terrace, perfect if you want a bit of shelter from the wind. Water was brought to the dog first thing. The drink selection is great, but they take a little while. We also ordered four burgers, and everyone was happy with their food (except that the mayo didn't come four times, and one burger was the wrong one. When we asked about it, the waitress left the restaurant shortly after, and the mayo never arrived. It was still on the bill, though). The service was a bit slow. Sitting outside is definitely recommended.

Today I waited in line at the takeaway counter for the second time, this time for an ice cream. There was one customer, myself, and three employees (one server, two behind the counter, and one playing on her phone). After three minutes and two attempts to contact them, I gave up on ordering and went to another ice cream parlor. This was my second and last attempt. If I were a restaurant owner with employees like these, I'd know exactly what to do. Recommendation... go somewhere else.

The food was cold and incorrect. We had to speak English, and they didn't understand it in English either. There were items on the bill that we hadn't ordered.

The way the food was prepared here was unbelievably disgusting. It was incredibly dirty, the food preparation was completely unhygienic, and the worst part was that the freezer with the frozen meat was left open and beeping the whole time. The server probably wanted to cool down behind the counter in the warm weather. Even after being told she'd forgotten to close it, she just said, "No, no, I know that, but thank you." Absolutely not recommended.

Very unhygienic working conditions. The ice cubes were handled by hand, the counter was filthy, as were the high chair and toilets. The food was okay.

Everything was perfect. Attentive service, excellent value for money. The kids loved it.

After making eye contact with the young waiter for 10 minutes, and calling out to him twice, he said he would come take the table in a minute. Which ultimately took another 5 minutes. After paying in cash, we sat waiting another 10 minutes for our change. Since this waiter had long since been busy with other things, we walked up to him to ask where our €20 change was. To which he laughingly replied that he had forgotten it. After another 5 minutes, we finally had our change. The service was downright bad.

Never received any service, were completely ignored, a real disgrace

The service was very poor; they made mistakes multiple times and forgot a drink. When settling the bill, they charged the wrong bill. The lattes were average, nothing special.

Only 1 toilet. Be careful if you order sparring. They don't know what puncture wipes are. Remains a glorified snack bar.

This afternoon, we sat down on the terrace at Verhage. After some time, we finally asked if we could order. We ordered two toasted sandwiches and two soft drinks. After 40 minutes, we inquired if our order had gone through correctly. The waiter then went to get our drinks. Another fifteen minutes later, we asked if our toasted sandwiches were still on their way. After waiting for over 1.5 hours, we finally received our sandwiches; we even had to ask for the ketchup that was supposed to come with them. The sandwiches were barely warm and the bread was still soft. Around us, there were clearly more dissatisfied guests who had to wait an absurdly long time. This place had a delivery service, a takeaway counter, and a terrace. Clearly, these do not go together. Make a choice about which service you want to provide before you end up with no customers left. We do not live in the neighborhood, but otherwise, we certainly wouldn't come here again. We cannot recommend this place either, but that seems obvious to me. Good luck with the necessary improvements!

Food is cold, croquettes are frozen! Staff speak no Dutch and no English! Do not order food here.

It took quite a long time for the food to arrive. The service was very slow. Despite the sunshine, the parasol wasn't opened.

I never give bad reviews, but the service was not good. They were unfriendly and unmotivated. The food looked good on the menu, but with service like that, I will never eat here again.

I would give zero stars if I could! The service was a disaster. We waited 10 minutes for a Coke that was warm. When we pointed this out, the staff couldn't care less. We got up and left, even though we actually wanted to eat there!

Ordered a Hoegaarden because the Hertog Jan Weizen was out of stock, only to get it at room temperature with a rancid, matching Hertog Jan glass. Decent place.

I was cheated and ripped off with the bill. I overpaid by €20, and when I inquired, I was told that there were new prices starting today that hadn't been printed yet and that the printer was broken.

Terrible service (the table was only superficially wiped after we asked again, and the glasses and plates from the previous guests were cleared away). The salad was served without dressing! When we asked, we were simply told that they were out of dressing. The fries were unsalted and soggy. We had to wait a very long time for the salad and fries (40 minutes)! This restaurant is absolutely not recommended!

We stood at the order counter for about 10 minutes. Two employees were behind the counter. One employee was "taking care" of two glasses of cola, while the other employee stared silently ahead, doing nothing. Otherwise, there was absolutely nothing going on. Neither employee asked if we wanted to order anything. We left after 10 minutes. I've rarely experienced anything like it.

We just bought food there with the family (takeaway). After paying, the food arrived relatively quickly. Then we were told they were out of forks and asked to leave. You're better off going to the next chip shop. We'll never go back.

After waiting fifteen minutes to order a cup of coffee, we moved on. We asked a few more times if we could order… but unfortunately…

We tried this restaurant in spite of the mixed reviews. Food was ok-ish, unfortunately it took forever to arrive. They told everyone they had had a system outage, which supposedly was the reason for the order taking so long. Looking at the other reviews on here their system must be quite unreliable…

We wanted to eat there yesterday, but first of all, none of the tables had even been cleared. We had to call the server to place an order. We only received half of what we ordered. Then we were expected to pay for the previous diners' drinks. All in all, an absolutely terrible experience.

Ordered food from Verhage Zierikzee for the first time. We had the spare ribs with fries and salad; the delivery was perfectly on time, right in the middle of the time slot we had specified. The delivery person also had a neat appearance, which earned us 4 stars for the service. The food was barely warm; it had been on the table for 5 minutes and was cold. Everything per menu was together in a thin cardboard container with lots of small cardboard containers inside. The meat on the spare ribs didn't exactly fall off the bone when you bit into it, and the smoky barbecue marinade tasted like piri piri and was very spicy; it just burned your stomach. Additionally, there was one spare rib with a piece of bone still attached crosswise, meaning the ribs couldn't be separated and you had to scrape all the meat out from between them, making it impossible to eat the ribs clean. The fries were well-fried but also cold and very salty. The salad was soggy from the dressing, which was at the right temperature, though—so cold. Long story short: way too expensive for the quantity and quality of the food you get. Also a surprise: A packaging tax of €0.05 was charged! I understand that packaging materials have to be paid for, but incorporate this into the product prices; that looks a bit friendlier. For us, this was a one-time visit to Verhage, never again.

Unfriendly staff and unfortunately unhygienic food preparation. The server wipes tables, takes payments, and assembles sandwiches without ever washing their hands or wearing gloves. That's unacceptable. Otherwise, a nice and well-located restaurant.

The food was delicious and I go there often. I calculated how much I should have paid and ended up paying more than I should have. This has happened twice already.

Dirty shop, with disinterested staff. We were given dirty glasses on the patio, which they took away but didn't get any new ones. The food we ordered took a very long time, tasted awful, and was of poor quality... even a few bitterballen (meatballs) couldn't be properly fried and served. Also, it was very expensive... don't go there. There are plenty of other places in Zierikzee where you can eat well.

It's sad that they can no longer properly calculate €52.50 to get €10 back on a €42.50 bill. Completing an order with three people is asking for trouble. And then, on top of that, bringing one drink too few. Stay away is the message! Poor entrepreneurs!

Do not order food here, takes 1.5 hours to arrive and everything is cold

Orders are poorly taken. You smell the restroom when you sit downstairs. Unfriendly staff.

We had to wait an hour and a half for our food. The food itself was good (veggie burger).

What a filthy place! I should have turned around the moment I walked in. The kitchen is messy and filthy, and after ordering, we had to wait at a table (so you can't see anything). The floor is greasy and slippery. It was otherwise quiet; a kitchen assistant walked by with clean plates and thought he'd shake his hair out. The cutlery on the table looked dirty too. The employees' clothes were incredibly dirty; it could have been busy, but still. The best part is, after waiting fifteen minutes, the employee tells me they're out of mayonnaise. 😂 A cafeteria without mayonnaise 😂😂😂 I ended up getting my own at the local Albert Heijn later. No compensation or anything. (Already paid for it.) Food: Ordered large fries, got a small container. The snacks were good. Loaded fries, not really; they were a bit undercooked with beef stew and lacked much flavor. That was the last time; I wouldn't recommend it.

Staff flying around, busy being busy... Had to wait over 50 minutes for food even though it really wasn't that busy. Poorly organized...

We ate here during Zeelicht. We had to wait an hour for a simple burger and salad. The food wasn't good, and the chicken in the salad was rock hard. Our drink orders came in stages, and we had to ask for them three times. The toilet was filthy and hadn't been cleaned in a while. All in all, a disappointing experience and one I won't be repeating.

Waited an hour and a half for two fries and some snacks. Half the order was missing! And what was included was ice cold. Called twelve times but no one answered. I'll never order again. So bad!

Very tasty food, when it was busy I got a cold frikandel speciaal and then had to pick up a new hot one myself, but yes, busy busy, I would like a little more attention for something like that, a minus point so otherwise a ten/5 stars, top business

It's a shame I can't give the service 10 stars. The people working here are so enthusiastic, especially Arthur, who goes the extra mile when you need service. A lot of people could learn from that.

We ordered food online at 6:06 PM and received a confirmation. At 6:45 PM, there was still no tracker available, so we called to ask how long they thought it would take. We were told it would take another 15 minutes. According to the lady, it would be ready at 7:00 PM. By then, 20 minutes had passed and it was 7:05 PM, so we called again because our eldest, a four-year-old, was getting hungry and wanted to wait for his fries (he'd been really looking forward to them). The lady said they were ready and would be delivered any minute. She apologized and asked if we wanted a milkshake as compensation. We declined, as we just wanted our food and nothing else. Finally, after 15 minutes, we called again angrily, saying we thought it was taking so long, and our son started complaining about how hungry his tummy was. The delivery driver didn't arrive until 7:30 PM, almost an hour and a half after we ordered. Unfortunately, the fries were also cold (luckily for the oldest, he didn't have to blow anymore). We'll never go back to Verhage.

It took ages for the order to be taken. Then came the burger, which I was really looking forward to, but unfortunately, it was only half-filled. Not with tomato, cucumber, and fried onions as you'd expect, but just a dry burger slapped on a bun with a huge dollop of sauce and some wilted lettuce leaves. If you complain about this, it's not resolved; you're looked at as if you're committing a mortal sin for daring to say anything. You won't see us again, and if I may offer a tip, go next door and give this place a wide berth.

TERRIBLE FOOD Frozen food at expensive prices and gristle in the burger meat!

Absolutely horrible. We had to wait forever to oder and it wasnt even busy. The waiter was not welcoming or friendly in any way. Waited forever for our oder. The oder was screwed up and looked very different from what we expected. I would honestly not recommend it. We felt like we werent supposed to be there

The food was good. The staff either spoke English or nothing. The atmosphere was lacking.

We've been to many Verhages restaurants. Absolutely the worst... Waited a very long time for a completely ordinary menu. Paid a premium, and the food was very meager and inedible. People should go to Marktzicht or another place, but skip this one. Lured in by the low prices, but everything is charged separately. Bad atmosphere and terrible service. Food was delivered after waiting over 45 minutes. Not even appetizing. Never again

Delivery took over an hour for two fries and a few snacks. It was cold upon delivery. The satay sauce was also missing from the order. After calling to ask if we could deliver later... well, then it's already gone. All in all, I won't do it again... lots of room for improvement! Bottom line: stop delivering, it's terrible. Not worth the money!

Coffee and apple pie, the apple pie was bad, the coffee arrived late. Not a repeat for me.

The waitress loudly throws a box onto the floor. The knives are blunt. The food is okay. There are better options. I wouldn't recommend it.

After we paid, it turned out the bill wasn't correct! We overpaid by €3, so we reported it to the person. He said, "extra cheese and ketchup." But the ketchup was on the menu, and it said it was included. He voluntarily added cheese, so we had to pay for it without even asking! Oh my goodness...they just do it, and if you don't check the receipt and think it's all right...you're screwed!!!! We didn't get our money back and will NEVER come back here again!!!!

Toilets are very dirty; everything is sticky. If you don't have tea, you have to find your own tea bag. Nothing personal about it.

We placed a home delivery order for a milkshake and a Twister. We didn't have to wait long. I opened the bag containing my Twister, and it was already covered in Nutella. Absolutely ridiculous. They didn't even bother adding it to the tiny amount of soft serve, but smeared it all over the carton. There was barely any ice cream in it. I highly doubt this was accidental, because anyone can see it's ridiculous. Of course, I called and explained that I found this unacceptable. They laughed it off a bit. I told them I'd just have another soft serve and nothing else. They agreed, but I wasn't satisfied.

We didn't come here for dinner, so we had to call the waiter to order. Service was awful. All the drinks were empty, and there wasn't even a hint of customer service. €3.20 for a 0.2 Coke was way too expensive.

Delicious burgers. Unfortunately, not quite as fast as I expected.

First time here today. First and last time. We weren't served for 20 minutes, even though it wasn't busy. The young man with the curly hair came when I waved. We ordered two medium ice creams with chocolate sauce and a large beer. Two iced coffees arrived at least another 20 minutes later. We immediately said it was wrong. My daughter doesn't drink coffee either. We hadn't ordered it either. The next table was served an ice cream sundae, and I pointed at it. He claimed it was a chocolate ice cream sundae. Strange, no chocolate sauce and a straw. His colleague confirmed afterward that it was two iced coffees. Nevertheless, the young man continued to argue, even in front of other guests. In the end, I said I wouldn't pay for it, and only then was the order canceled. NEVER AGAIN!

We had to wait a long time before we could order. Food for 4p arrived in three batches. Not tasty. And too expensive.

We had a wonderful time on the terrace here last week; it's really spacious! They have a nice menu, and both dishes we had were delicious (chicken club sandwich and loaded fries), although the loaded fries were a bit small compared to the club sandwich. But what was really disappointing were the absolutely disgusting restrooms. I'm glad I went to the bathroom after dinner, otherwise I honestly wouldn't have eaten my meal. I really don't consider that good service, unfortunately...

We waited half an hour for our drinks. We repeatedly asked the staff if they were on their way. After another half hour, they arrived. No apology for the delay. They didn't even offer a word. When we asked for the bill, the staff simply walked past us without a word.

Wij hadden via thuisbezorgd besteld en zou tussen de 15-40 minuten bezorgd worden. Ruime marge om te bezorgen. Maar helaas na 75 minuten nog niks bezorgd en uiteraard telefonisch niet te bereiken. Wat een klant onvriendelijke zaak! Voor ons nooit meer!

The food is tasty but the staff always gives you a dirty look and then you don't want to eat with them or something and this has happened a few times already.

Bad staff. We walked in and they immediately gave us dirty looks, they clearly talked about us smoking, even though there was plenty to do, AND I'd been waiting 30 hours for my burger and fries.

We were warmly greeted and directed to the lovely outdoor seating area with umbrellas for shade. The service and food was great. We had 2 questions about our bill which were both explained. One was a mistake by them and we had cash refunded to us. The other was that frites sauce cost extra and was not included in menu price. We found that a little disappointing but was told it was 'normal'. Requests for a sauce option that was not on the menu was granted. Ice cream was average - probably wouldn't bother with that next time. Thank you!

2 positive points about this place. The location and the music played by the neighbors. The rest is below average. We could not spend a euro there after more than 20 minutes still could not buy a drink.

We had an ice cream. The display isn't complete. The ice cream was okay. However, the waitress isn't happy, not professional. No smile, and when you ask her for the receipt, she gives you the previous customer's receipt if it was 10 minutes ago. And with a smile. As if to say, keep talking. You have to travel, madam. It'll do you good.

Menu meatball ordered, and the meatball was dry in the pan and much too hard. I am used to Verhage having gravy in the pan. My wife also ordered a hogweed menu, and the hogweed was also baked much too hard. Reported when paying and only a meager apology from the cashier. We also had to wait much too long for the food. So I do not recommend Verhage Zierikzee to go to.

It's a bit like a snack bar that wants to be a restaurant. Don't expect much, and it's more of a snack than a fancy dining option. You can also eat outside. There are also vegetarian options.

We sat there for 20 minutes without being served. Then we left. It can get busy at times, but you should still serve people in the order they arrive.

Too STUPID to write anything down

Another order not delivered, after a phone call about it they were with us within 20 minutes with the order... fries were ok, bami slices soggy and almost burnt. Last time I got the wrong order when picking it up, after calling I was asked to come and get the correct order...🤔🤔. For the prices they charge I expect a bit more service..

Here is a fitting 2-star review in Dutch: ⭐️⭐️ The food itself was okay, but unfortunately two of our burgers were forgotten and brought much later. The service seemed overloaded and not well organized. Tables were not cleared, and it took a very long time before we were helped. All in all a disappointing experience in terms of service.

Not so long ago you could eat well here, but this was really the last time for me.. Once again the order was wrong, with completely different dishes. Tasteless fries with raw chicken satay last time and now again meatballs with a maximum of 10 seconds of baking time.. Good staff is also scarce these days, but these (in my opinion) Ukrainians just don't understand you, are uninterested and incompetent. Too bad, but quality has gone downhill here.

Actually had a great lunch here, quite low prices but price quality was more than fine. Service was a bit inexperienced but, you have to learn somewhere!

I think this is my first 1-star review ever, but I couldn't resist. We've had good experiences at other Verhage locations, but this was really below par. We came to order and pick up two burgers and a Twister Fries. Inside we found a chaotic atmosphere: staff were shouting at each other and outside a staff member was smoking under the parasol on the terrace — while guests were quietly eating on that same terrace. The fact that a cold loaded fries was brought back while we waited, was perhaps a sign of things to come. In the meantime, the scooter delivery people were amusing themselves by kicking each other in boredom. After half an hour we finally got our order. Once home (15 minutes later) it turned out that we hadn't received a veggie burger and a fish burger, but two double cheeseburgers with bacon. Not really what we had ordered. After a phone call we were allowed to pick up the right burgers. They did say "sorry for the inconvenience" and the right burgers were prepared for us, but that was it. Anyway, we finally got our food. The Twister Fries were just delicious. That's true ;)

Actually a beautiful place, cozy, sunny, food okay...but unfortunately a mini glass of white wine and a beer in 2 hours. The parasols remained closed even in the blazing sun, and on top of that, he was thirsty. Even after repeated requests and then speaking to them, nothing happened. He had to make a phone call, after all. All the guests outside felt the same...and it was really warm. We would have liked to have eaten more...but there was no waiter to be seen for over half an hour. They were only talking on the phone and only serving two tables at the front. Perhaps the management should hire an adult employee or have one on site. Sorry...but this is simply not acceptable.

We bought ice cream on the fly, and it wasn't a very good choice. There are a few flavors and they're nothing out of the ordinary. Up to that point, it could be normal, but it's quite expensive, and the size of the scoops they serve is the smallest I've ever seen—about the size of a walnut, for example. And the worst part is that they don't clean the scoop between flavors, so you end up with a little of each flavor chosen by the last ten or fifteen customers. Maybe I should have mentioned this at the time, but some customers before us took it as normal, so I guess that's how things are there.

Be careful before you eat here. First of all, the service is very slow, so you should not be in a hurry. Secondly, the receipt was wrong, they "accidentally" hit "large" instead of "medium", and 9 instead of 6 bitterballen. Some of those bitterballen were also still cold, and one bitterbal had a hard piece of bone in it. That is why I strongly advise against eating here! They do everything they can to make you a few euros lighter.

Super slechte ervaring gehad en personeel zeer onfatsoenlijk. De baguette American filet die ik had besteld had geen ei en ui. Toen ik daarom vroeg, kreeg ik een snauw en werd het broodje van me weggegritst en een paar minuten later weer voor me neer gepleurd. Zonder een woord te zeggen. En toen ik bij het afrekenen om een bonnetje vroeg, werd me verteld dat dat niet mogelijk is. Hier kom ik dus nooit meer terug!

Had a super bad experience and staff very rude. The baguette American filet that I ordered had no egg and onion. When I asked for it, I got a growl and the sandwich was snatched away from me and a few minutes later it was put back in front of me. Without saying a word. And when I asked for a receipt at the checkout, I was told that this is not possible. So I will never come back here!

Small “snack restaurant” with a large winter garden on the market square. Interesting menu with many bread and sandwich variations. All in all very solid and ideal for a snack break. Entertainment from local ravens in the winter garden included.

It's in a nice spot in the city center and the dishes are very tasty.

Verhage Zierikzee: where time stands still and service is hard to find Last weekend we decided to treat ourselves to some delicious fries at Verhage in Zierikzee. Well, treat might not be quite the right word — it felt more like a punishing expedition in slow motion. After about 45 to 60 minutes of waiting (we were already starting to have visions of potatoes yet to be harvested), our food finally arrived… or so we thought. The waiter walked right past us and served our order to another table. The people there must have thought they had won the lottery, because they immediately started eating happily. Meanwhile, we sat there like extras in our own tragedy. We had said several times that the food was ours, but that didn't really seem to land. Maybe we spoke a different language? Or maybe we were just invisible today? When we finally said we wanted to leave (because: long waiting time, zero excuses, and a "figure it out" vibe), the staff wanted to take our food from the other table — which had already been eaten. Nice fresh idea. When we refused to consume other people's leftovers, we were suddenly unreasonable. The staff then decided to switch to a “sniff and sigh” mode, because customer friendliness was apparently also at an end. We then went to the snack bar around the corner. Within 6 minutes we had fresh fries and a smile from the staff. Look, that's how it can be done. In short: if you like waiting, confusion and fries that arrive at the table via a detour (or not), then Verhage Zierikzee is the place for you. If not? Then I would say: take a walk around the block — literally. There are better fries, better people, and a lot faster!
