Vitesse Grand Café Restaurant in Wijk 07 Scheveningen

Truly appalling service — one of the most frustrating restaurant experiences we’ve had. The restaurant was barely 40% full, with only one other table occupied inside, and there were 2–3 servers outside. We waited approximately 15 minutes just to have someone take our order. Eventually, I had to go looking for the waitress myself and ask whether we could sit anywhere. She said she would come by. Another 10 minutes passed. Still no one had taken our order — not even drinks. When I followed up again, rather than apologising or acknowledging the wait, she responded sharply that they “didn’t have enough staff.” Being short-staffed is understandable. What isn’t understandable is continuing to seat customers without informing them that they won’t receive basic service. What made the situation particularly frustrating was that we could see the waitress intermittently sitting around the bar or at a nearby table while we were waiting (I’m sure on site cameras can verify this around 12pm on 27/09). After roughly 25 minutes of sitting there without even having our drinks order taken, we left. So, unfortunately, no review of the food or drinks — we never got that far. If you’re unable to serve customers, be upfront about it. Leaving people sitting for 25 minutes and then snapping at them when they ask for service is simply unacceptable.

Cold food. Serve something other than what was ordered.

Nice restaurant, really. I’d say the leaking ceiling and regular visits from the local feathered creatures give the place its own charm. The food, on the other hand, is tasty, good for quick bites and connoisseurs alike. I don’t think the boss keeps the place entirely in order, but the workers there do their best. Hats off to the food, drinks, and staff. 1 star for your weird floor, old architecture, and support beams dating back to the Stone Age. The walls could use a fresh coat of paint and maybe new chairs and tables (everything is old and worn). The place could use an update, but I’ll leave that to the boss.

Good service, beach view, large restaurant. Classic Dutch cuisine. The snacks (sandwiches, croques) are quite good and not too expensive. Main courses (especially fish), however, are rather expensive and not particularly imaginative in their composition and presentation for the price.

Simply beautiful. The atmosphere and the beach right there couldn't be better. My pancake is a must. Top-notch.

The staff were unresponsive and it took a long time before we received our food. We had to skip dessert because otherwise we would have missed the theater.

In case you are thinking of having something to drink and eat here? * Then do not come around 15:30 and 16:30, as there is a staff change then, with a lot of uninterested waitstaff; * It can take 20-30 minutes before you get served; * It is not wise to order meat, because it tastes like nothing and is of poor, low quality. * You can see a bit of the sea, but no beach... * You are bothered by a lot of pigeons; * If you like listening to very loud, rock-like music; * But for people-watching and some atmosphere, or just a drink: then you are reasonably well situated. In that case, try the Scheveningse Blondje... That is super (expensive)!

Saturday morning breakfast. Friendly waitress. 1x Scheveningen breakfast, 1x Dutch breakfast. The bacon was a bit hard-fried, the eggs blue-boiled, both served cold. But tasted fine and was more than enough. So we went back here again on Sunday. Arrived just before 12, between 10 and 5. We actually wanted something from the lunch menu but that was absolutely not possible. We weren't really given the option to have a drink first and then order from the lunch menu at 12 either. 2 extremely unfriendly waitresses this time. Ordered the same breakfast as yesterday, only instead of 2 hard-boiled eggs, 1 hard-boiled and 1 scrambled egg. Received 2 scrambled eggs.

Lettuce had been out of the fridge for a while 1 slice of salmon is little for a salmon sandwich

Ate here for breakfast. First the positives, then a few things that could be better. The portion size you get is very good, especially for the price; you will definitely have eaten enough if you have been here in the morning. Then a few downsides: First of all, the waitress came over to us after 15 minutes and immediately said that it was very busy and that everything was taking a bit longer. Normally that isn't a problem, of course, but there were only 4 other tables with us, so it didn't seem very busy to me. We both had breakfast; I had the Scheveningen one and my partner the Dutch one. The boiled egg that comes with it was ice cold, as if it came straight from the freezer, which is a bit of a shame; boiling an egg doesn't seem too difficult to me. Also, the scrambled egg & bacon I had was simply cold, so not freshly cooked, or done very early in the morning. The sandwich was quite good and nicely topped. I wouldn't go back here for breakfast again, but it was okay.

Order fast, eat fast, friendly staff!

I never edit my review. But I am shocked by this. And I would like to say something about this. Dear Ms. Karssen, your review is not truthful. We were sitting next to you at table 708. I almost broke my neck. Because your dog cart was literally standing in the walkway. We kindly asked you to move the cart. Subsequently, my son fell to his knees. I then went to the manager. She also almost fell with the 3 bowls of soup. She had kindly asked you to put the cart next to you. She wanted to make extra space for you. You didn't want that. Then another complaint came. Another girl came. You asked nicely. You started shouting yourself. It is a pity that you blame the staff. While the staff was extremely friendly. And tried to please everyone. And for the manager. Really a top action what you took for the child who lost his parents. As usual, food and staff extremely friendly. I just hope the staff doesn't get into trouble because of a false accusation by Ms. Karssen. Hopefully the owner reads this. Sunday 10-05, around 11:30. The friendly lady was working alone. It was a small, busy peak. She was very professional. Incredibly nice. She made time for a little over 2 minutes for a chat with everyone, even though she was alone. Everyone was served pretty quickly. Our order was taken and we got our drinks very fast. The food followed quickly. The food portions were tasty and good. We were nice and full. We will definitely be back here. For us, this was a top-notch experience. My sincere compliments to the lady, because she really got everything done at a fast pace. And that with service, a smile, and a chat.

The food was delicious, the service was top-notch; they did their utmost and were friendly people. The two managers, or whatever they were, could take a leaf out of their book. It wasn't busy, just a few tables (even though it is busy, I don't need to be treated so rudely). I came with my little dog, who was sitting in her dog cart. We had positioned her so she wouldn't be in anyone's way. For the first half hour, there was no problem until the manager arrived. And I had to take two extra steps to get to another table because there was a heater there, and the cart was standing there too, and she couldn't get past my mother's chair. If it had been rudely in the way, I would understand, but she came walking up with a rude sigh. I have 10 years of experience in the hospitality industry myself, and I have never seen anything so rude. They make the choice themselves to fill the terrace to the brim and then act so unfriendly to customers. After about half an hour, the manager sent a member of staff over. She was too cowardly to come over herself and say, "Hey, sorry, but this is really in the way." We moved it so she could get past my mother, but during the other half hour we sat there, she didn't walk past it even once, so it was just to complain. (They had to pass by multiple times.) Later in the evening, she was also rude to the staff herself; she didn't speak to them in a normal tone. No, not a second time for me. I feel sorry for the staff, but I'm not going to spend my money on managers or owners like that, whatever it was.

I was drinking there with five people, and when I received the wrong change, I had to argue with everyone about it. Their argument was, "I don't owe you anything." In the end, they gave me the correct amount. But the main thing was to argue unnecessarily and say, "I don't owe you anything." I can understand they don't earn much there, but you shouldn't have to steal tips from people.

Ended up here for a bite to eat. We were served quite quickly and the service was also quite friendly (contrary to many other reviews). The beef itself was cooked quite well, but the fries were very cold; they looked like they had been sitting around for a while. That was a shame, because otherwise the flavor was quite good.

The mossels were white instead of orange. And tasted so so. They said that it wasn't the season for mossels. Why do you offer them in the menu if they're no good? To apologise they offered a cup of coffee free of charge. To be fair we ate half of the dish so they said that we should have complained before and they would have offered another dish. I just hope we don't get sick.

Had a delicious main course. Really wanted dessert but it took too long.. After waiting 50 minutes we ran out of time and unfortunately had to leave..

I don't quite understand the negative reviews. Perhaps the food or service is a bit less impressive in the summer when it gets incredibly busy. I was there in March and I was very satisfied. The staff was exceptionally friendly and very helpful. The conservatory was well-filled; the lady and gentleman handled everything together, but I didn't have to wait a moment. The atmosphere was cozy thanks to the burning indoor fireplaces (a kind of atmospheric heat lamp), and the food was very tasty. The mussels were on the small side, but that was because the season is almost over; it wasn't due to the preparation. So, on a future visit to Scheveningen, I would definitely go back. Not least because I was surprised by a very handsome dining companion: neighborhood cat Rémy, who apparently roams the boulevard and regularly pays a visit to the many beach bars. Thanks for the company, Rémy! I really enjoyed it.

A charming and very beautiful place, a nice place facing the sea. We had a really good lunch, excellent fish & chips and a decent cutlet, accompanied by a good beer, of course 😏

Great for having lunch here. We were served well and courteously. The wait time was quite long even though it wasn't busy, but then again, we had nothing else to do and just relaxed nicely under the heat lamp. The price was also more than normal. Awesome!

Just a cozy restaurant with a delicious theater menu. We thoroughly enjoyed it.

I had a good time with my boyfrien/partner. We ate on Dec 28, 2025. Capprucio for appetizer, Steak with fries for mains (you can choose the sauce). We also had Tiramisu as dessert. I'm not really fond of the red licorice-y syrup on the tiramisu.

Cocktails were delicious, but the service was more preoccupied with other things.

We ate here on Christmas Day. Nice place, cozy atmosphere, and good food. Unfortunately, it was incredibly cold inside due to a broken heater. Eating while wearing a thick winter coat doesn't add to the atmosphere.

Great staff. Especially those two handsome tall guys (the blonde one and the guy behind the bar) really enriched my evening. They create a wonderful atmosphere in the delightful grand café.

What a terrible place. Orders aren't taken until half an hour later, even though it isn't even busy. Then only half a drink is delivered and I have to ask three times where they are, only to be told they're out of stock. I am never coming back and advise everyone to stay far away.

Although we had a delicious meal, and our first waiter was very friendly, we will never return here. Behind the bar, the staff (ladies) were shouting and yelling. When paying the bill, we were told that redeeming the restaurant gift was not possible because she didn't understand it; after all, she was only 18 and couldn't arrange all that, and the managers couldn't ask that of her. Unfortunately, there wasn't a single supervisor present, so we just paid. It's a real shame, because the food was excellent!

The visit was a complete disappointment. The service was unfriendly and slow, making you feel more like a burden than a guest. The food was just as bad – poorly prepared, tasteless, and anything but fresh. The bread was so hard it seemed like it was from the day before yesterday. Absolutely not worth the money. Totally dissatisfied and definitely not recommending this place!

Last week, before we went to Live at The Beach, we had a delicious meal. We didn't actually have time for a three-course meal, but they made sure we got our food in time so we could still enjoy three courses. The service was incredibly friendly! We went back the next day for breakfast, and that was also good! We'll be back soon, because where else can you find such delicious and good food for a great price?

After the news that the UB40 concert on the beach was cancelled, we had a bite to eat here. They had very cleverly put on UB40 music, which made it nice and full. Fuller than the staff could handle, but you couldn't blame them for that (unfortunately, someone else thought it was necessary). The satay was affordable and very tasty, and the plates were piled high. To quote Ali Campbell: Big Love

We ordered fish and chips twice. The waiter was attentive and the food arrived promptly. The portions were large; I couldn't quite finish mine. Unfortunately, there was construction work going on in front of the restaurant, which made it rather noisy.

The service is quick and friendly. My main course was a (vegetarian) lasagna with a generous layer of oil. The salad had a bit too much sauce. So, the food wasn't exceptional, but the friendly service more than made up for it.

The view would certainly be very nice without the construction. The ambiance is a bit dated/dark, but it has its own charm.

Simply worthless in every respect!

Very bad, though the food was tasty of what I managed to eat at all. We had a theatre menu since we were going to a performance and arrived well over 1.5 hours in advance. They were so slow that we could only eat the starter. Not recommended if you are in a rush or going to a performance.

I have rarely experienced anything like this; you aren't even spoken to after waiting for half an hour when ordering two ginger teas. When it was brought, no one said "please" either; unprecedented.

Quite a nice restaurant. We were a pre-booked group, so the execution and service were very efficient.

Unfortunately, there's construction on the promenade, so the sea view is obstructed. However, we had a very good breakfast for a reasonable price. The coffee was absolutely top-notch and the service was fantastic. We'd love to come back whenever we're in Scheveningen!

After being able to call this restaurant our regular haunt for quite a few years whenever we visit Scheveningen, it has become a lot worse during our last few visits. Not only is the food significantly worse, but the staff—who change frequently by the way—doesn't quite understand the hospitality industry. Whereas the wait staff normally comes by during the meal to ask if everything is to our liking and if we need another drink, they were completely absent during this meal, and it wasn't just at our table that you could see the frustration among the guests. The staff seemed to have eyes only for getting the order to the table, only to walk back towards the counter or kitchen empty-handed and ignore tables that were clearly finished with their meal. You would almost say they don't want to receive a tip or extra income for the owner. Whereas previously the dishes were presented on your plate in a somewhat modern way, the chef now seems to be back in the 80s when it comes to presentation. Consequently, the price-quality ratio in this restaurant can no longer be called fair. The owner also seemed to have little regard for his guests, which is a real shame. No fitting farewell for this establishment, but we are looking for a new place.

Cozy place for a drink and/or snack

It was already messy upon arrival. We were initially allowed to choose a table, but then we were assigned one and had to search for it ourselves. The table was so crooked that our plates slid off. We then asked the staff for a different table and told them which one. This wasn't a problem until the "floor manager" arrived. He explained in English that the table was reserved. We told him that his colleague had approved it, and he went back to his colleague. Later, he returned and told us to go back to the crooked table without offering any alternative. The service was very unfriendly; we didn't eat anything and eventually left.

Great service, you feel like a guest!

The most expensive beer in Scheveningen! A 0.5 liter beer costs 9.15 euros here and the store is really not a hit! So if you want to go out in an overpriced and bad atmosphere, this is the place for you!

Upon receipt, we, 4 adults and 7 kids, were told that we have limited choice due to group size. After some discussion and consultation with the kitchen, it is still welcome. In principle the food was reasonable, not great, especially the spareribs... during dinner I kindly asked if the door could be closed a little further to avoid drafts. A young girl with a big mouth didn't think that was an option and opened the door a little further. She was cleaning up the place outside. During dinner we confronted her about her uncustomer-friendly behavior. We then received an answer that she was not concerned about this and that we could complain to one of her foreign colleagues. She cynically wished us happy holidays. We have never been treated so rudely. If desired, you can contact us and we would like to provide text and explanation.

We only went there for coffee, which was really tasty. Service was excellent.

After sitting here for 20 minutes without seeing any staff at the table, we got up and left. Staff are leaning against a door frame, looking disinterestedly at their phones. Continue to Westenwind. You are seen there as a guest.

After fifteen minutes of fruitless waiting for tea and the terrace was not half full and nothing arrived. Order canceled, patience comes to an end.

The food is no longer what we have come to expect from them in recent years. Not anymore for the time being. Shame.

Always good, kind of of coming home

Had a delicious meal at Vitesse tonight. A nice 3 course menu for only 26 euros per person and everything tasted really good. The carpaccio, gourmet steak and fresh tiramisu topped it off. The service was also very attentive. We even sat outside under the patio heater. Definitely nice to go back

Had a theater menu here Soup was nice and hot and then the main fish and chips came quite quickly. There was some big fluff in here. Reported this to the friendly waitress and she asked me 3 times if this was really there, just as if I was making the whole thing up. After this she came to offer whether I wanted it again or nothing. I also thought this was all very exaggerated because she kept asking questions and didn't have time to answer. You'll never see me here again

Attentive staff, fast service, delicious breakfast and you get a lot for €8.50.

Take a table on the boulevard, order delicious mussels or their specialty; the chicken satay and look at all the people strolling by. Friendly staff and very affordable.

Service very friendly and attentive. We enjoyed a cafe here in bad weather. There are plenty of seating options inside and outside. Café very tasty. There's even chai latte. Not everyone has that :-) The prices are reasonable...unfortunately you're in the second row of the promenade. But you might also have slightly cheaper prices than directly on the beach. We can absolutely recommend the café.

One of the few tents on/along the boulevard where they DO NOT wait until you order a new drink to bring food. Very friendly help.

Today we were at Strandweg 19 in the restaurant Vitesse Grand Cafe. At 1:10 p.m. we ordered two portions of fish and chips. At 1:30 p.m. we were told it would take a while. We waited patiently until 2 p.m. When asked, we were put off for another 5 minutes. At 2:15 p.m. we decided to pay for the drinks. The service wasn't surprised, they just did the billing. The restaurant was moderately busy. The other guests have received their orders. We assume that we were not served out of principle.

There were plate matches on the table, which stated that it was a fish restaurant, but we got a pork schnitzel with fries and far too little raw vegetables

Went for a nice drink, but apparently it wasn't the right time. Service took a long time, so our coffee was almost ice cold, and when we made our displeasure clear to the waiter, it apparently wasn't his problem... so there is certainly some room for improvement. . 😥

Great food, a bit pricey, but that's what you can expect on the boulevard. Fish & Chips, tasty and sufficient. Well done…

Carpaccio salad was not very tasty, watery, a lot of lettuce, 3 tomatoes. It was disappointing and I had stomach cramps afterwards, but I don't know if that had anything to do with the food here. The satay was tasty

Excellent service, cheerful guy

We ordered a cocktail here for 14 euros, but we got a glass of flavored ice. Coffee was watery as if 2 cups were made with 1 coffee beans. And that served in a coffee bath on the saucer And a glass of wine was half a glass 23.50, that hurts. Definitely not value for money

The food was fine, we sat with empty glasses for 45 minutes trying to contact the staff; these pass your radius. Finally we went to the bar for the bill.

Had a very tasty meal here for a very good price. For the individual main courses at this restaurant you pay a fairly normal price for food in Scheveningen on the sea. But our eye immediately fell on the "theatre menu". You then get a 3 course menu for 18.95, with quite a few choices per course. We had the pepper soup as a starter and the 2 scallop soles as a main course. Both very tasty! The sludge sole in particular had a lot of flavour. Because you got 2 sludge tongues, you also got quite a lot. Unfortunately, they no longer had the tiramisu for dessert, so we had tea and a cappucino. But otherwise you wouldn't have been able to get even 1 main course by the sea for 18.95 p.p., so we certainly can't complain ;-)

Manager was really unfriendly unfortunately they completely ripped us off. Mussels were served in water, even if they told us, they would cook it in white wine. + we had to pay more for it. not recommended.

Yesterday we tried to have a drink for half an hour before we went somewhere else to eat what we had already served from home. On the outdoor terrace, which was not even half occupied, it took 15 minutes before we could order a drink. 2x rosé wine and 1 fizzie peachtree cocktail, which also took a long time. The cocktail contained little/to no alcohol, you only tasted Spa red. Payment did not go smoothly either and we were charged €21.50 for the 3 drinks. Unfortunately, this did not work out well, never again for us!!! Tip: take a look at the beatchroom near you, everything is perfectly organized there and super good, fast and friendly staff, nothing was too crazy for them. That's how it should be 😀🌞🥰👍.
