Best Japanese restaurant in town!

This is one of my favorite places ever, I come here every week. The food is delicious, healthy and protein packed; so great after a workout! Fantastic people. Can’t give them enough stars.

We went here during lunch and the person who served us was very friendly. The lunch menu seems to be different from the dinner menu and therefore we did not manage to try their Yakitoris. However, the curry Katsu was very delicious, the Katsu was crispy on the outside and juicy inside. The Unagi Don was okay but probably one of the better ones that you can find in the Netherlands. Miso soup was hearty and tasty. We also liked their Kaku highball. The staff are Japanese here. We would definately go back to try the Yakitoris!

Yummmmmmm. Yakitori served quickly and simply but sooo delicious. Lots of options, delicious as well as Instagram friendly. Delighted to have walked in.

Overal we had a nice dinner there. Food was good. Only the Seared Bonito was not that tasty. I had better ones before. I find it very fishy even with the toppings.

The food is decent, you have to pay an advance of 10 euros per person (and that’s fair i understand) and I called to 4-5 hours before to announce that one of my friends was sick and that he wasn’t coming. I still had to pay the 10 euros without deducting it from the bill.

A solid Yakitori spot. One of the best parts of Amsterdam is the food scene. So much good food is hidden around every corner Yakitori Hanabi is no exception and delivered on delicious grilled skewers and cold beer. Nothing better on a rainy day!

All 10 skewers of yakitori were absolutely delicious, and the quality of all the food was high! The atmosphere and food quality were just like those of a Japanese izakaya! The food was of such high quality that you won't find it even in Japan. The staff were also friendly, and I left the restaurant feeling good! I'll definitely go again! By the way, I went right when they opened on Sunday without a reservation, and it was empty!

Had dinner with three people yesterday. It was delicious, with a nice atmosphere, attentive service, and very friendly staff. The salads were delicious, the fries were also super tasty and crispy, and the yakitori chicken nan ban were also fantastic! We'll definitely be back!

The only delicious restaurant on Leidseplein, it felt like I was back in Japan, highly recommended.

Sabroso pollo katsu. Algunos platos bastante salados. Comida bien presentada. Restaurante tranquilo, pero estábamos almorzando un poco tarde. NO silla alta o cambio de bebé. Bajar a los inodoros había sido pegado en negro tan difícil de ver y un poco de peligro de tropiezo.

Just absolutely fantastic. - Authentic, delicious Japanese kitchen. Everything is fresh, flavours are deep and never bore you. - Getting the 10-piece yakitori set is strongly recommended. - Drinks are great! Get a glass of umeshu with soda, you won't be disappointed. - The matcha pudding is fantastic. Allegedly "the best in Europe" :) - The staff are also very kind and attentive. Don't forget to book a table!

Hanabi Yakitori had a wide selection of skewers, including vegetarian options. We chose the "Yakitori 10-Piece Set." They weren't spectacular, but as expected, they were tasty. We ordered a few more later. The cheese skewers were delicious. The rice dish was also very tasty, well-seasoned and full of flavor. A small but cozy restaurant in the middle of Leidseplein, definitely recommended.

Perfect yakitori and a huge selection. Kirin beer properly brewed. The staff is a little flummoxed in English but I'm used to that with Japanese people. 😁

It's delicious, the atmosphere is good, and they're friendly. ㅎㅎ I think the price is okay! It's a little salty, but since Japanese food is usually salty, it was okay. ㅎㅎ

The food is absolutely delicious, especially the skewers. If you're planning to dine there, I recommend getting the skewer set (10 pieces) so you can try a variety of flavors. It's perfect for sharing between two people. The float drinks are also worth trying! The restaurant is a bit small so i recommend to make a resevation especially during weekends.

This is literally the best japanese restaurant i've ever been to outside of japan, I never write reviews, but here, I just had to. The food is very good, the staff is super super nice and everything is super authentic, it's just the perfect restaurant, and I definitely recommend coming here. If I ever come back to amsterdam, I will also visit this restaurant, it was very very good and I liked it very much !! ( ´ ▽ ` ) 🌷🎐

Coming from Toronto we have a ton of great Japanese options but this restaurant blew me away. The meat quality and flavours were amazing, service is awesome, and overall I felt super satisfied with my meal. Highly suggest coming here and going crazy with the skewers. The Chicken Nanban was unreal.

Had a great time here! Food was very nice and authentic with only a very few dry/tough pieces here and there. Staff was very friendly (even got to practice Japanese a little bit).

We booked for early dinner and we were there at the very first table in the restaurant. The service was excellent, I think either owner or manager even comes out to welcoming and said thank you to visit their restaurant at the table. It may be normal in Japan but this is very special when you see this in Europe. We ordered several dishes but didn’t take a lot of pictures as we were enjoying the meal and conversations with friends. We ordered unagi-don, karage-don and chicken katsu-don, they are all taste good. The portion is a bit small which is a good thing so you can order extra Yakitori. What we recommended is pork belly with leak and chicken meat ball. You will be quite surprise how chicken meatball tastes so good. If you like beef tongue then I recommended the beef tongue with leak. I wish they have liver, gizzard and heart in the menu too. That would be extra excellent! We like their homemade drink which is quite fresh with sweet and sour taste. You can ordered it with normal water or sparkling water. There 4 of us and our bill is a bit over 160 euros. We ordered many yakitori sticks and drinks so it’s really worth it. Overall experience is excellent! We will definitely come back again from time to time.

Had dinner at Hanabi and honestly… the skewers were so good. Everything was grilled just right. 🤤 It’s been a while since I’ve enjoyed yakitori this much. Can’t wait to come back and try more next time! 🍢💛

Katsu curry was so awful. Using Indian spices instead of the authentic Japanese style. So bad.

Yakitori Hanabi is a culinary highlight! We had the Teriyaki Mayo Karaage Don and the Oyako Don, both dishes came as a full meal with a small, tasty soup and a piece of tofu in a fantastic vinaigrette, garnished with bonito flakes. The Japanese rice is something special, perfectly cooked, only slightly sticky and well seasoned. Every bite of our dishes is a pleasure! For dessert we chose the matcha pudding. Very intense in taste, definitely something for real matcha lovers. There was also ginger ale, cola and a hot oolong tea. Particularly noteworthy is the outstanding service. Absolutely attentive, friendly and very accommodating. The ambience is lovingly furnished with attention to detail, making it modern and timeless. Price/performance is very reasonable here, as high-quality products are used and the portion size is appropriate.

Really nice little place. I think just a little too pricey but it's just off a main square. I went not long before close so not super full but the food was still fresh and tasty. I had the 5 piece yakitori set: the beef and the chicken thigh with leek were my favourite. I had a side of chicken miso kyuri which was really refreshing.

Very good food, came here in the evening for the yakitori. We couldn't make up our mind so we went for the all-in-one platter, very nice variation indeed! The beef is so tender and juicy, definitely recommended! Staff is also very nice and quick. Love the ambiance and the food. 11/10 heerlie de peerlie 👍

The food here is FAN-TAS-TIC, this is certainly not the last time I eat here. The service was top notch, super friendly and helpful people and the atmosphere in the restaurant is also perfect. If I could give it 6 stars I would!

There are just many styles, but the taste and quality of the roasted bird are not as good as Yuzu! My personal favorites are beef tongue with chives and pork belly rolls with asparagus.

Chicken was still raw I had a very disappointing experience at this restaurant. I ordered a chicken skewer, and when I took a bite, it was clearly undercooked—still raw in the middle. When I brought it to the waitress’s attention, she initially dismissed it and said it was “probably just sauce,”. I also ordered a pork skewer, and shortly after eating it, I experienced intense throat pain that lasted for several days. When I mentioned this, I was told I might be allergic to something, even though I’ve never had any allergic reactions to food before. Overall, the service was unhelpful and dismissive, and the food quality and safety were clearly lacking.

Went here for lunch. Had the Hamburger curry with rice and extra cheese and egg. Recommend this combination if you are hungry. Also cold Oolong tea. Delicious! Also service was quick and super kind - will come again

Heerlijke spiesjes gegeten en de Don buri met paling was ook erg lekker. Al weer voor de 3e keer gegeten. Echt een aanrader en je moet zeker reserveren, want het is altijd vol. De sake is ook erg lekker.

It's a cute, small restaurant with a nice atmosphere. But the food is not special at all. We tried their yakitoris and bowls...none of them impressed us, I found them all tasteless even. Sorry, I wanted to like it so much but not a hit unfortunately

After a tiring day at the Rijksmuseum while walking even more in Amsterdam we stumbled onto this restaurant. Since my daughter loves noodles and rice we decided to try to eat some Japanese food. We had the tonkatsu lunch set, the chicken nanban/karaage lunch set and some udon noodles for our daughter. The noodles are nice but my daughter wasn’t used to the strong taste so she decided to have our rice instead. The chicken nanban is quite good. My wife also loved her tonkatsu. The staff is friendly and Japanese, so we had a small chat in Japanese. We will definitely try to come back to try their kushiyaki for dinner when we’re in Amsterdam once again.

When we arrived the and lady showed us a tabel. But we prefer to sit on the other site of the restaurant. It was much quieter there and the lady let us choose our tabel. The staff were very polite and friendly. My friend and I enjoyed the food, it was delicious. Definitely my favorite Japanese restaurant!

A very nice spit for yakitori!! The food was excellent, i loved the cheese yaki a lot. I recommend this place, very tasty food. If ur an older person be aware that the seating area is more on the cultural Japanese side so the seating is very hard…. Maybe bring an pillow or sit on ur jacket if this applies to u! Other than that i recommend it because its very tasty 😋

I came here for lunch and ordered the tonkatsu and was kinda disappointed. The rice and tonkatsu was quite dry and hard. The panko was not crispy and just fell off the meat.

The staff is so nice! They do their best to accommodate you and check in often to make sure everything is alright. Food came quickly and the taste is amazing (I have lived in Japan before so I wouldn’t get impressed unless it was the real thing). Price is definitely reasonable for the quality!! We came here on my birthday. It's a rather small tent, but also pretty cute. We had a few dishes, the service was a little more on the lower side. It took a little longer for our order to be processed. We received a small portion and yet we felt really full, which is only a good sign! I liked the decor and the restaurant is in the middle of Leidseplein so there are many shops around.

I had dinner at this Japanese restaurant with a friend of mine last week - and she booked it. I was very satisfied: it was a super nice surprise. The appetiser I ordered was very tasty (fried fish in the first picture), whilst my main course with miso soup was also tasty. The portions are abundant as well. I would for sure come back to this restaurant: the food is tasty and there is a wide option (with also some specific seasonal dishes), and the price is very affordable for the quality. Congratulations!

This is hands down one of the best spots to eat in Amsterdam. Their skewers are incredible, especially the beef tongue and the nanban chicken, which is perfectly crispy. You can’t go wrong with this place, stop overthinking and just go. This Japanese restaurant is amazing!

Very small portions for the price, but the chicken is tasty

The food was delicious, but we felt very rushed throughout the meal, which unfortunately made this experience less enjoyable. Next time, it would be helpful if you could let us know upfront if there’s a time limit without a grace period for our party to arrive, and take our orders a bit earlier. We were also disappointed when we were asked to place a final order, only to later be told that the kitchen was too backed up to fulfill it. We didn’t felt welcome and when the bill came we were charged with food that didn’t even came.

Love that they have 0.0% beer (Kirin). Fried chicken and grilled rice all were super delicious. Chicken with leek sauce was good too but I liked the other 2 dishes more. Quick and great service

We really wanted to try the cuisine of this restaurant after reading the reviews here and there. So first we were seated at the front door and during the whole meal we were bothered by the cold and getting in and out. The meal was good but we thought it was too expensive! To be satisfied, you have to order a formula or quite a few pieces. And then our dishes were brought to us later. Honestly not cool to have dinner together! In short, mixed feelings about this restaurant.

I honestly was hesitant about this restaurant because it’s on Leidseplein and theres quite a lot of tourist traps there. However, oh my god! This place did not disappoint at all! The food was delicious, the atmosphere was super nice and the service was great! This restaurant is definitely going to become one of my staples, price is good and I love the overall concept!

Btw the Lunch menu is different than the dinner (no yakitori during lunch). I got the chicken karaage and it was super juicy and the sweet potato puree on the side was deliciously sweet. It was on the expensive side but if you’re willing to treat yourself to a good meal I think it was worth it. Nice japanese flavors with a twist of western like how the chicken was coated with a sweet-ish sauce and not just the typical breading you get with regular chicken karaage.

I’m changing my review based on some later response from the owner to one of my friends. I had given one star to the service due to the restaurants unwillingness to refund partially our deposit due to one of our group not able to show up. I am also choosing to forgive the owners earlier quasi-sarcastic reply to my review, since it has been deleted later, I’m willing to believe they have realized it was not appropriate from a business owner. They’ve also offered compensation (not to me, but to my friend), which I truly appreciate. Here are some thoughts about this incident: 1. The cause of this conflict seemed to be a 10 eur deposit, but actually it wasn’t. It’s not hard to see that, 10 eur barely matters to either the guests who are spending 350+, or a business of this pricing level. To us customers, it was the coldness and stubbornness of the waiter, and his tone that infuriated us. Using “policy” as an excuse to refuse any sort of solution focused , constructive conversation, showing no effort to any compromise, was not an altitude any customer wanted from a business. Yes, the policy was there, but it was a unilaterally concocted policy from the side of the restaurant, which in practice should always allow certain level of flexibility. In our case, we didn’t cause ANY WASTE of your space, service or ingredients, we caused NO extra cost to your side, instead we were charged of extra 10 euro for ONLY the sake of policy. For example, if only 6 of us came and 2 no show, we would acknowledge that we caused an empty table and we would not argue about being charged. 2. I myself manage 3 restaurants in De Wallen area in Amsterdam, so I know all the reservation apps and systems inside out. So when the waiter said “there’s nothing I can do about it”, it was plainly an insult to my knowledge. The deposit could be manually waived easily, and it was this dishonesty that really made me, and my friend group angry. 3. After all this, I do appreciate the owner has realized hard forcing this policy with zero tolerance, probably isn’t the best for the business. I read other reviews, we’re not the first or the only ones complaining about this rule. Others have given 1 star for very similar reasons. Again, I don’t believe anyone who choose to eat here really cares about 10 euros, but whether it is being charged properly. Actually, yesterday most of us discussed among ourselves that we’d be willing to give more than 10 euros tip, but to have 10 euros charged as non refundable deposit. As a business owner, it is always in your best interest, to try to understand the psychological process of your customers, other than brutforcing what you believe is “just” or “entitled”. Yesterday At the end of my conversation to the waiter, I asked “would you really rather lose 7 customers and their friends as potential customers forever, than refund 10 euros deposit?”, he said “ok.”, with no emotion. That really shocked me. But now I’m at least a bit relieved, perhaps after all that’s happened, the owner will give this a second thought, which is for the better for both sides. Thus my re-rating of the service to more stars.

This restaurant cares more about 10 euros than their customers. One person couldn’t make it, and despite a 350+ euro bill, they still charged us a cancellation fee for the missing guest. It’s an à la carte place, so no loss on their end, but the staff was cold and unbothered. Won’t come again.

Did not eat because there were no options for me. Manager did not give me my deposit back WHILE the restaurant was empty. So I get that they have to keep the deposit if it was busy, but it was literally EMPTY.

We ordered 3 dishes, all of them were tasty and savoury. The main dishes come accompanied by a miso soup and a small plate with tofu, the soup is very good, and warm. The main dish seems small, but it deceptively comes with a good amount of rice and the chosen protein.
