my first time trying out Yemeni food and it did not disappoint! we ordered the 2 people Yemeni meal and it was a feast! we were really full afterwards and there was still a full plate left. highly recommended :)

Unfortunately, it was a bad experience. The rice was frozen solid, and the meat had strange spices. Honestly, the atmosphere and presentation were poor. Thank you.

We ordered chicken mandi to go. I didn't check the bill with them; I trusted them, so I paid and left. But when I got back to the hotel, I discovered I'd been charged for lamb mandi. It's best to pay attention and check the bill before paying.

This is the first time I've seen a restaurant this clean and very classy. The staff are very friendly and the prices are reasonable.

The prices are excellent, and the service is great. I swear, no one told me to comment; I made up my mind because, honestly, it deserves all this praise.

Okay-ish Yemeni food served with a side of ignorance and racism against Asian-looking people. We were a group of British people of Vietnamese descent. We spoke English and Vietnamese at the table while we were there. Then at the end of the meal the young waiter came to the table and said "nihao" (a Chinese greeting to us). We tried to take the high road to tell him in a friendly way that we were not Chinese and told him what the greeting in our actual language is. He wouldn't have any of it, and as he left, proceed to say "xiexie" (which is Chinese again). It's sad to think that we were in a multi-ethnic neighborhood, pay for the service but treated the same way as a drunken lad on late Saturday night would to any Asian-looking people regardless whether they were Chinese or not. Pro tip for the future: not all Asians are Chinese, when in doubt - just ask!

This restaurant is old and new. I'm still here with you and I love you so much that makes you happy. This was not the case: it was the same as the first one in the rijst and the whole family was erg vet. Ok the service was onduidelijk. We would like to have a better price for €130, and then we would have to pay more money. That's why we don't know what to do in our rooms. This has to be done in your vet and it can be cleaned. Toen we wilden afrekenen, werd ons ineens verteld dat we ook voor de “fsaha” moesten betalen, zonder dat dit vooraf duidelijk was gemaakt. De eigenaar geloofde ons niet, terwijl wij met negen personen waren — denkt u echt dat wij zouden liegen? Dit was de eerste en de laatste keer dat ik bij jullie eet. This restaurant doesn't even deserve one star. I'm from Yemen and I know very well what real Yemeni food is like. The food wasn't tasty, the rice was excessively oily, and the meat was very fatty, mostly rancid. As for the service, it was unclear. We ordered half a lamb for 130 euros, and the waiter told us that half a lamb would be three plates, but that didn't happen. They gave us only two plates instead of three, and the meat was very fatty and from an old sheep. When we went to pay, they told us we had to pay for the "grace period," which hadn't been explained beforehand. The owner didn't believe us, so I said, "There are nine of us. Do you think we're lying?" This was the first and last time I ate at your restaurant.

The Yemeni restaurant used to be great for its delicious food, distinctive cuisine, and excellent hospitality and service... I highly recommend going back. 👆👆👆 That was then, but now, unfortunately, the taste has changed drastically. I don't know why!

Review update – March 2026: Looks like there’s new management or maybe new ownership. The place definitely looks way cooler now, the vibe improved a lot. But the food… honestly one of the worst Yemeni lamb rice dishes I’ve ever had. The rice was completely bland, and the lamb chunks had this pale, almost old taste. The Fattoush salad also had literally no dressing ! No oil or lemon or or .. just some pomegranate molasses on top of it ! Even 1 star feels too generous for the taste. Really disappointing and honestly surprising. The service felt authentic… maybe a bit too authentic. Also not a great start when the first two things I tried to order weren’t available. old review 2025 ( was rated 5 stars) : If you’re a rice lover, this is definitely the place for you! They serve amazing Yemeni dishes that are authentic, aromatic, and super flavorful. I go here almost every week because it honestly feels like homemade food. The lamb chunks are cooked to perfection ..so tender and full of flavor , and the smoked rice is something you don’t easily find in Amsterdam. The chicken dishes are also delicious, with a unique and distinctive taste. Service can be a bit up and down at times, but the quality of the food more than makes up for it. Overall, this spot is a real hidden gem and highly recommended for anyone craving Yemeni cuisine!

Food was oke, but the front door was open the whole time so it was pretty cold inside. They also didnt accept my diner cadeau gift card even though their restaurant is mentioned on the website and i confirmed with telephone. So kinda scam

The food was really delicious, and the portion for five people (we ordered four dishes with salad) was more than enough. I also think the price-performance ratio is good. We did offer a small criticism, as some of the dishes were a bit too greasy, and we would have preferred a lighter preparation. However, this was received very kindly, and they apologized.

We ordered two chicken mandi dishes, and after a long wait of almost an hour and a half, only one meal arrived. Since we were staying at a hostel, I had asked them to send the cutlery, but even the spoon didn't arrive. I called the restaurant and explained the problem. They coldly replied that maybe the staff forgot. Okay, that's not a big deal, but what's even more outrageous is that they told me to come back tomorrow to pick up the meal. I paid 3 euros for delivery and 5 euros for service, and the mistake was yours! How am I supposed to come back tomorrow when my flight isn't until 10 AM? The poet was right when he said: "If you have no shame, do as you please."

Delicious food with friendly staff!

The staff's treatment was very bad. I ordered a meat stew with daqoos (a spicy tomato sauce), and the employee brought the daqoos but said it was missing vodka. When I went to pay, the cashier refused euro coins because he had too many. This happened yesterday at 9:30 PM.

Came here with friends. Had a delicious meal. The staff was friendly and polite.

They'll probably never get a Michelin star. And that's not to mention the fact that halfway through our meal, the owner had to personally turn on the many, many wires in a cabinet above the pots (the music had stopped), but the shakshuka was delicious. Combined with their flatbread, the ambiance of an extra plastic tablecloth, the lack of personal plates, and the prices, Yemen Restaurant is an absolute gem in Amsterdam.

The restaurant has a nice atmosphere, but unfortunately, the meat was almost entirely fatty, with about half the portion being fat. I wasn't happy with it, even though the other dishes were good. This is the second time I've ordered, and the meat was disgustingly fatty. The service was excellent, the atmosphere was good, and the juice was great. 👍

A very authentic Yemeni restaurant, we tried 4 variations of lamb with rice, all very good. The bread was amazing, salads not their strong side, tea with cardamon at the end a must. The WC was not the cleanest and the service was not reliable.

One of the best Arabic restaurants I've visited in the Netherlands. The atmosphere is Yemeni. The authentic Yemeni taste. The food and the place are clean. The service is excellent. And most importantly, what worried us was the prices. I was pleasantly surprised by the excellent prices. I give them ten stars!
