Great atmosphere, friendly team, quiet location and great view of the harbor

The food was served quickly and was fine, but not great. We found it a shame that this restaurant was not set up for children at all. No high chair, no bread roll with jam or anything similar on the menu, and nothing to change at the restrooms. (The owner, I think?) She didn't seem to be very enthusiastic; her service and words to customers were very businesslike. When we had finished everything, we left immediately, because it didn't exactly have an inviting atmosphere when you're having lunch with a 1.5-year-old. All in all, we also found the bill quite pricey.

Frozen dried cake, fruit flies, and unfortunately an equally so reaction.

Hindelopen is a beautiful town with a nice center. As a cyclist, I have been coming to Äme Gijs for about 16 years for coffee and cake and a chat with the staff.

Nice location, but staff and food are substandard.

Made to feel unwelcome by the staff, including who I think was the owner.

The Liefman Cherry beer was nice and cold, but the waitresses were (once again) not friendly or welcoming. Sharp and curt. A shame... perhaps due to the heat today....

Had delicious coffee with cake. Cozy and well-maintained interior. Fantastic spot close to the harbor and lock.

We only had drinks, but the staff were very nice and the view of the harbor was great.

Nice location on the terrace. Had a cup of coffee. Although it wasn't very busy, we had to wait a long time. The staff were running on autopilot.

Friendly service despite the crowds.

The terrace is charming and comfortable, located near the drawbridge, opposite the marina. The service is attentive and excellent. We had salmon salads and a three-fish salad, which were both delicious and generous. Highly recommended! A very good place. We will be back.

We had a lovely time sitting on the terrace. It was quite busy during lunchtime with only two waitresses, but I thought they did a very good job and came across as friendly! Our order was taken quickly; we were hesitating about whether to order something from the drinks menu. Everything was explained clearly. In the end, we opted for a sandwich. They are generously filled. The smoothie is also highly recommended!

This is our second time here. Delicious cake, friendly service. We'll gladly come again.

I have rarely experienced staff gossiping about us while I could hear it. Other people on the terrace were snapped at. The food is tasty and the terrace is situated in a nice spot, but you don't go here for the atmosphere.

How silly, this restaurant is open on a Monday, and at least 10 dog owners would have liked to eat. We were sent to Workum. Thank goodness, because the service and food there were excellent.

Four of us stopped at ame gijs after a hike. We'd actually wanted something to eat, but it was like a henhouse. The two waitresses brought orders to the table with complete restlessness, so we just had a drink. We sat with flowers behind us, right next to a small staircase. Completely uncomfortable despite the sunny weather. Here, quantity is more important than quality. The very inexperienced waitresses practically intruded on us. When paying, I asked the younger of the two waitresses for a separate bill. She snapped at me, saying this wasn't possible here. Bad luck, instead of getting three tips, I got nothing.

Beautiful place with a view of the harbour and the mussels were delicious.

Lovely place and beautifully decorated. The apple pie with whipped cream was truly amazing! What I found disappointing was that the staff seemed a bit disinterested and grumpy. They rarely made eye contact, and the table cleaning was done in a rushed and unfriendly manner. It didn't feel very welcoming, even though the location and the quality of the food are actually very good.

Excellent food and atmosphere. The fish trio salad and the hunger-and-egg toast were super!

The food was okay, but the apple pie was fantastic, and the outdoor seating was also very nice. It's a shame that the waiters seemed/were so stressed and annoyed. We also had to wait almost an hour for the food.

Great place for coffee or lunch. They serve the best orange cake.

The staff was friendly and the decor was nicely done. Unfortunately there was no background music which made it a lot less cozy. You have to know what you can order here because unfortunately we had chosen wrong. We had chosen crispy chicken and a fish steak (see photos). This was just fried chicken and a fried piece of fish. The flatbread was just a whole wheat pita. Also a shame that you can't get fresh fish at this place while it is on the IJsselmeer. Generally fine.

Friendly staff, had a very tasty lunch of salmon salad. Only a pity that smoking is allowed on the terrace, someone with such an aroma cigarette next to us gassed 3 tables. A shame but easy to solve.

Finally a real Frisian (Dokkumer) coffee with a big splash. We found the Frisian orange cake too dry. But very enthusiastic and hospitable staff (top)

Service a bit chaotic. (People were not helped in order of arrival, others were asked twice what they wanted, others were skipped again) Very friendly. Food was fine, raw vegetables not so much, bouncer a bit bland, tasty croquette and delicious bread. Delicious lemonade. Nice place to sit with a nice view.

Rarely such unfriendly service. Ordered nuts and received a cup of coffee with nuts worth €4.50. Shame! The owner hadn't even bothered to buy a bowl for the nuts. Pure poverty! Too bad this is my memory of Hindeloopen. Bottom line: Please do not go to 'Ame Gijs'.

Very unfriendly service. After we said when we went in that we were just coming for a drink, they arrogantly looked away. We were offered a table in the second row even though everything was free. We were with children. Never again.

Wow, I don't often write a review, but I have to get this off my chest. Rarely have you been served so unfriendly and indifferent on a terrace where you pay a lot for your food and drinks. An older lady with 'bleached hair', I read in other reviews as the possible owner, snarled and snapped and just barely threw the plates on the table. We didn't feel welcome. The quality of the food was mediocre, especially considering the price you paid. You can also read about the unfriendly and even rude service on Tripadvisor and other platforms. I would say 'poor Gijs', do something about this! Treat your guests as you would like to be treated as a guest.

We arrived around 6pm without a reservation. Sat outside. Nice ambience. Spareribs and fish, although the fish was the much better choice.

No dinner possible, only snacks. Very disappointing if you think you are going to a restaurant. It was also not stated why dinner was not possible. This could possibly have provided understanding.

A tent you will never go to again. What an incredibly arrogant service. A drink is thrown down and just look at it. We wanted to eat there extensively, but after such treatment I lost my desire. The older lady serving really doesn't know how to deal with customers and has no respect.

After a lovely walk through the nice town of Hindeloopen, we wanted to have a drink here. My mouth fell open at the unfriendliness of the owner. She was clearly frustrated about something and took it out on her guests. It's that we already had our order in front of us, otherwise we would have left. Such a shame, because this immediately put such a negative mark on the oh-so-fun day. Fortunately, her waitress knows her trade. She does get 5 stars.

The coffee was delicious and the key lime pie delicious

A unique and special place where two elegant and kind ladies open the doors of Dutch cuisine to you. I recommend everyone to try it after walking on the banks among the sheep. The goat's cheese croquettes are sensational!

Really, incredibly rude waitress (poor Gijs's boss?), an older woman who clearly didn't feel like it and wanted to rush customers through as quickly as possible. We were really looked away and treated rudely. Tea was also full of weird black bits. Fortunately, there are plenty of places in this town where they are extremely nice and cheerful! Pity the only sweet waiter girl (Ukrainian?)

Gezellig terras aan de haven. Vriendelijk personeel. Prima koffie met heerlijk appelgebak.

Ik wilde eten bestellen voor op de boot omdat wij honden hebben. De honden waren meer dan welkom, ze waren super gastvrij en vriendelijk naar ons. Eten was heerlijk, onze complimenten!

Lekker druk, een heerlijke uitsmijter gegeten. Hele vriendelijke bediening.

Heerlijk geluncht aan de haven. De hond mocht mee op het terras. Lekker gegeten, goede service.

Heerlijke koffie en brood met kroket meer dan heerlijk. Vriendelijk geholpen.

Wir waren zum Lunch dort und haben auf der Terrasse gesessen. Wir hatten ein Brot mit Aal und eins mit geräucherte Makrele. Beides war sehr lecker und nur zu empfehlen.

Ja we hadden geen geluk. Een of ander debiel muziekfestijn stampte over de boulevard. Maar eten matig, geen sfeer, bediening stug

Ondanks de drukte werd er voor ons plaats gemaakt, een groep van 16 personen. Vakmanschap van de bediening, zo ga je met klanten om! Heerlijk gegeten, prachtig terras met uitzicht over de haven. Aanrader!

Very helpful staff. Ice cream and apple tart were good. Eiskaffee was too sweet for my mother in law and looked like a ready mix poured over ice.

Dieses Restaurant ist auf jedem Fall zu empfehlen. Die Gerichte sind frisch zubereitet und perfekt abgeschmeckt. Lange in den Niederlanden nicht mehr so gute Gerichte gegessen. Definitiv 5 Sterne.

Heel lekker gegeten! Beetje prijzig maar gezien de smaak het zeker waard!

Wij hebben vandaag een heerlijk hapje gegeten bij Ame Gijs. Mijn dochter heeft heerlijk genoten van haar kindermenu zeebaars. Dat was voor mijn dochter wel een compliment voor de kok waard. (Ze word ook kok) Ook voor ons was het een feestje. Genoten en niets te mopperen.

Heerlijk zitten eten hier! Wat een top restaurant! Echt lekker na genoten met een paar gratis likeurtjes, echt helemaal top! Eten top personeel ook top! Een perfecte nazomer dag gehad in het mooie hylpen!

Aardige bediening, maar geen vega opties.

Prima restaurant met goed eten. Niet bijzonder en de kaart is niet heel groot. Toilet is bereikbaar via trap. Prijzen zijn aan de hoge kant voor wat je krijgt.

Ontzettend mooie plek, goede kok niks mis met het eten. Echter er was behoorlijk veel stress te merken omdat het terras vol zat. Tijdens ons eten werd er een bordje gereserveerd op ons tafeltje neer gekwakt zonder 1 woord tegen ons te zeggen. Tijdens het afrekenen een behoorlijk zakelijke snauwerige manier van spreken , het voelde of waren ze blij dat er weer een tafel leeg was! Kom bij deze eigenaar niet weer !!

Kleines und sehr gemütliches Restaurant mit sehr freundlicher und hilfsbereiten Bedienung und mit sehr gutem, reichlich zubereiteten Essen. Ein Besuch lohnt sich jederzeit. Nachfrage nach Tagesspezialitäten lohnt sich ebenfalls.

Mag er graag even op terrasje zitten .

Ik vond het terras oké maar omdat je buiten het terras zit moet jezelf drankjes halen ook prima maar daarna een discussie om naar de wc te moeten en dan horen ja mevrouw u zit niet bij ons terwijl ik daar echt zat vond ik nogal vervelend zelfs klantonvriendelijk. Je klant altijd vriendelijk benaderen zeker een van de belangrijkste dingen in deze tijd.

Leckeres Abendessen- auch toll für Vegetarier. Super freundlicher Service. Rundum ein gelungener Abend.

lekkere lunch gehad op koningsdag, 2 groente kroketten op lekker dik gesneden boterhammen, en een uitsmijter kaas, met idd lekker veel kaas, de hond kreeg een kluifje, snelle bediening, schone toiletten , dus niks op aan te merken hoor.

Gezellig en een heerlijke lunch gehad

Prijzig maar heerlijke chai latte en uitsmijter gegeten. Gezellig plekje!

Heerlijke lunches op een prachtige locatie!!! Maar nog nooit hartelijk ontvangen zo jammer.
