Het Strandhuys in Makkum is a lovely place to eat, with a beautiful view of the beach and the IJsselmeer. The food is delicious and of good quality, with plenty of choice on the menu. An added bonus is that there's free parking, which makes for a very relaxing visit. The atmosphere is cozy and relaxed, making it a great place to relax after a walk on the beach. Definitely recommended for anyone looking for a delicious meal in a beautiful location.

Wonderful restaurant right on the IJsselmeer 😍

Price/performance: Disappointing food temperature for burgers (€25) and ribs with wings (€27). The bread and dip platter was good. There were three of us. There were three knives. Why no small plates? We had to clear the table. 🤔Staff was understaffed and overwhelmed. Dog poop on the restaurant floor was covered with white paper towels by the dog owners and only cleaned up after the dog's meal. The staff were aware of the problem and didn't take immediate action. New guests with strollers rolled over the towels. Our table wasn't cleaned even after we sat down. We arrived at 7 p.m. and had to wait until 8:30 p.m. for two burgers and one ribs and wings.

Wonderful view, incredibly cozy, absolutely friendly, and very, very child-friendly. Our youngest's porridge was warmed up, and spoons and other items were offered. The older children can play in the sand within sight. This makes for a harmonious dining experience, even with children, and we'll be happy to return.

Had a nice lunch with a view of lots of surfers.

Great food, tasty beers. The service was very friendly. Overall, a nice restaurant to eat in, and in a great location.

Of course, the accompanying hotel also deserves praise. The food here was sublime, and the beer menu was excellent. The jus with the main course was more than perfect, and it was honestly the best I've ever had with a steak.

I can only recommend this hotel restaurant with reservations. The burgers aren't worth €25. You can get better ones (freshness, preparation, taste) for €15 everywhere nearby. €5 for a 0.33l soda or beer is also too expensive. The ambiance is great thanks to the location and the view, but I usually see cobwebs on the tables, dirty tables full of dishes, and empty bottles lying around as evidence of well-trained, dedicated staff, and they quickly clear them away! The wait times are average to long. The staff were friendly and helpful. The restaurant was only moderately busy, but the staff said they were "very busy" at the moment.

The food was okay. The ambiance was very good, but the staff was terrible. They were overwhelmed with five tables (I come from a restaurant background myself) and were also very disorganized (uncoordinated).

A delicious high tea at a very reasonable price in a lovely setting and ambiance. Very friendly staff who go above and beyond to make your stay enjoyable. Everything was delicious and of excellent quality, with plenty of variety. In short, definitely worth repeating and highly recommended.

Beautiful location, delicious food and friendly service.

A lovely place to linger – stylish, with a stunning view, and ideal for a coffee break. But given the prices, the added value is questionable. If you're on a budget, it's better to have breakfast in town and then enjoy the same stunning view, only then on the beach, at no extra cost.

The view is fantastic. Unfortunately, the staff only speaks English; they don't even speak Dutch.

Most of the staff is Spanish so you have to speak another language, the beer was knocked over by the staff, the phone was wet, the bag was wet and the atmosphere is okay, outside it just feels like you are in a half-built building

69 euros for a couple of rolls?! We rented a house at the Makkum Beach Resort for a few days. On the morning of our departure, we went to the restaurant after asking for a small breakfast. Although we were told the buffet had already ended, we were still offered a few rolls with sliced cheese and ham to eat on site. For our family (two adults, two children), these were just a few simple rolls – no drinks or extras. Drinks were offered to the table next to us, but we didn't ask. Nevertheless, to our great surprise, the bill arrived: 69 euros! After our complaint, the amount was reduced to 40 euros, but it was still completely disproportionate.

The atmosphere was unpleasant, with service in shorts and sweatpants, only English-speaking staff, and a long wait for the food. After eating, six out of eight people got sick. So, in conclusion, we won't be returning.

We wanted to make a reservation for 6:30 PM with a group of eight family members, but this wasn't possible. We did make a reservation for 6:45 PM, and when we arrived at that time, the restaurant was far from full. The table we'd reserved was still dirty. As for the ambiance, there weren't any candles burning anywhere, the fireplace wasn't lit, and one host was unfriendly, while the other staff didn't speak Dutch, forcing us to communicate in English. The food wasn't bad, but it wasn't great either, and the next day, four of the eight family members suffered from stomach cramps and diarrhea. In short, we'll never go back to the beach house in Makkum; the price-quality ratio is completely out of whack.

We had a great meal and the (friendly) staff were very helpful. Definitely recommended; there's something for everyone! Don't forget to check out the drinks menu. It features delicious nachos and loaded fries. Worth repeating!

Disappointing experience despite the delicious food. The food was undoubtedly delicious, but unfortunately, the overall experience was significantly overshadowed by the poor service. We constantly had to wait a very long time for both our food and drinks. The waitstaff was barely attentive; if our glass was empty, it sometimes took more than half an hour for someone to come by. The waitress in question also came across as unprofessional and rude. She frequently sat on tables and chairs near guests, made inappropriate comments, and condescendingly told us what we could and could not order. She also frequently spoke in a shouty tone, which made the atmosphere very unpleasant. From a restaurant with a good reputation, I would have expected at least a basic level of customer service and professionalism. Unfortunately, this visit fell far short of that.

Mooi uitzicht maar op terras plakkerige tafels en stoelen op terras. Stoel zat onder de Currisaus en werd niet goed schoongemaakt na vriendelijk vragen. Ik heb zelf maar een andere stoel gepakt. Bedienend personeel spreekt alle talen behalve nederlands en fries. Bedienend personeel zit sneller bij hun vrienden aan tafel dan dat ze nieuwe gasten die plaatsnemen te woord staan. Binnen is het prachtig ingericht en schone wc's. Eten kwam snel en was prima. goede prijs kwaliteit goed

Delicious food and great location

Paar dagen vakantie in Friesland, eerste avond maar wat eten in Het Strand Huys Makkum. We werden in het Engels aangesproken, in Amsterdam is dat gewoon maar in Makkum? We besloten tot een Frisker blond en een tonic. De Frisker Blond gebrouwen door Brouwdok, het bier heeft zure nasmaak en de THT ontbreekt, bewust?? Ik bestel buikspek met rode aardappel puree, zeer smaakvol, maar koud geserveerd, het zou een warm gerecht zijn. Ook bestelden we een proeverij van soep, deze is prima. Dat van de temperatuur vertelde ik de serveerster, haal Engels schoot helaas tekort. Geen herhalings gevaar

We had reserved a table (the staff also wrote it down in front of me). When we arrived that evening, we were told that pre-ordering wasn't possible. So we had to sit in the second-rate side room, which we wanted to avoid. After we ordered, for some reason, a waitress opened an outside door, and an unpleasantly cold wind blew around our ears. After all the warm air had been blown away, another waitress closed the door again with the words, "What's that?" Then another family came in. As one of the people said, they had pre-ordered. The waitress nodded and pointed to the table that had been prepared for 10 people. The drinks came quickly. The food was okay, as long as you don't mind the meat, which you could order "well done," being rare. We had cocktails the night before. Unfortunately, it consisted of over 85% ice and, based on the taste (commonly known standard cocktails), was not recommended. Will we eat/drink there again? Probably not anytime soon.

Cosy atmosphere but staff does not come by quickly to take orders. We waited almost half an hour and until then still no one came to us. We wanted to eat something but left because no one comes by. This is a shame because you sit there nicely. P is really disappointing for such a business.

The view is spectacular. The service is friendly but sometimes a bit forgetful... the restaurant has a nice, modern design. If you want to sit outside, you shouldn't have a problem with cobwebs, as the little spiders are very busy here. The food is delicious, but a bit expensive.

Good food, only we were unlucky enough to sit in the forgotten corner, which meant that the service was poor, but we just played games while waiting, so no problem. 😛

The Strandhuys' location is truly beautiful—right on the water with a fantastic view. Unfortunately, our visit was rather disappointing overall. The service was friendly, but not particularly attentive or quick. We had to wait quite a while before we could even order. The food, unfortunately, was only mediocre. Charging €25 for a regular burger is quite a lot—especially when the taste is nothing special. The BBQ platter with three ribs and four chicken wings for €27 was also disappointing: the portion was small, the food wasn't particularly well prepared, and overall, it just wasn't worth the money. Overall, the value for money here isn't great. It's okay for a drink with a view of the water, but we definitely wouldn't come back for the food.

Kellnerin eigentlich freundlich gewesen aber da wir was bestellt hatten was nicht gekommen ist und auch nicht auf der Rechnung stand, würde ich da persönlich nie wieder hingehen, Man brauch schon kompetentes Personal was auch richtig für diesen Beruf ist ,sie sollten mal über ihr Personal nachdenken.!!!

The service and the ocean view are great, but the cocktails are overpriced for the quality. The mojitos don't taste that good. There are no limes in them, and one of the mojito cocktails didn't have any mint in it either, just a syrup that tasted artificial. The avocado burger isn't that great either. It's a deep-fried patty made of avocado and corn, and the rest of the burgers aren't great either. The fries are tasty, though.

When we entered, the staff helped us nicely. We were there around 5:00 PM, but the kitchen opened at 5:30 PM. The young lady went to the kitchen to ask if we could order something. We had 2 chicken satay, 1 with fries and 1 with rice. The fries were not tasty, probably old fat. The satay was made from chicken thighs, which is always a bit fatter, and if you hate fat... We left more than half of it. 1 cola 1 orange juice 2 x chicken satay Price almost €65.00 Not worth coming here again.

The ribs and wings are a bad choice. They were cold and not cooked properly. After reporting this, the plate was taken to the kitchen. It immediately came back that that was how it should be.

Service doesn't ask who ordered which drink and places it in a pile on the table

Service is not the best. We waited in vain for 2 cocktails for 30 minutes. Half of the tables were occupied at the time, so it should be quicker... We didn't get any cocktails in the end and left again...

Delicious food, especially the pear sauce was very tasty

When we came in there were a lot of empty dirty tables. Finally, after waiting a while, we ordered 4 cakes, 1 cappuccino and 3 hot chocolates. We had to wait a very long time for this and when the cakes were finished, 1 cappuccino and 2 chocolate milk were put on the table with the bad news that there was no more chocolate milk. The kitchen and the gentlemen serving worked very hard, unfortunately they received many complaints because many people had to wait a long time or had to sit at dirty tables. The women in the ministry were talking and complaining a lot. In the end I only had the cakes and paid for it.

When we entered, there were a lot of dirty tables, nothing had been removed even though there were no people left. Waited more than 45 minutes for drinks... Pastries were on the table after 10 minutes! Ordered 3 chocolate milk and cappuccino. After 45 minutes I only received 2 chocolate milk with the bad news that the chocolate milk was gone. It was put on the table anyway without any further solution. Ultimately, we had the drinks taken back and the drinks taken off the bill (had to ask for this again). Very bad service! Compliments to the kitchen and the boy in the service who had to pay for the mistakes of his colleagues.

We were staying at the hotel, and decided to have something to eat in the restaurant on Saturday evening. The decoration of the restaurant is beautiful, warm and uncluttered. Dinner was delicious, we had bread with nice warm bread spreads as a starter. As a main course I had the steak and the other chicken satay. We both liked it very much. Well prepared and tasty. For dessert we had Dame Blanche and Monchou tart. We ate enough and it was delicious.

Very nice ambiance, I really liked it. The service and dinner were also absolutely fine, and the breakfast was delicious.

We had a table for today Reserved for 6 people and asked to set the table up nicely as a surprise for a birthday dinner. Unfortunately nothing of this sort had been done when we arrived; when we asked, the staff apparently didn't know anything, even though we asked for it personally in the morning. After we asked about the menu based on the chef's recommendation, the staff didn't know anything about it, unfortunately they couldn't communicate in German. When asked at reception, they said that the menu was only available for larger groups in the winter months. We had prepared ourselves for a somewhat unusual menu based on the chef's recommendation. After the disappointment, out of desperation we ordered 2 x schnitzel, one of which was inedible (meat gristly, tasted unpleasantly like it was cooked, unfortunately went back), the new portion wasn't really any better, a no go for the price of almost €25. Normally it would have been appropriate to ask the chef! The fish was good, the pork satay was good average, carelessly prepared, the price/performance ratio is disproportionate. We have been guests very often and unfortunately have to notice that the quality and service deteriorate from time to time. It's a shame for a HOTEL in such a great location. Unfortunately, our beautifully planned birthday dinner was a FLOP. We are happy to pay a higher price level if the quality is consistent.

Everything is very good, just a bit too expensive

The food was good, the ambience was also very nice, but I have never experienced such bad and outrageous service.

We've been there with a large Group and right from the beginning we didn't felt really welcomed. The food was really expensive but small portions. At the end we had to discuss to seperate the bill what was finally accepted. We wouldn't highly recommend that restaurant. But unfortunately there are not too many alternatives. And they perhaps know that....

I celebrated my 70th birthday with a delicious lunch together with my son, daughter, daughter-in-law, son-in-law and 4 grandsons between 12 and 20. Everyone enjoyed the food and being together. There is an extensive lunch menu, from bouncers to satay pork tenderloin and everything is equally delicious! Then we had a nice walk along the beach and the beautiful IJsselmeer. Right next to the restaurant is a beautiful boulevard with the beach next to it. A very successful outing. And definitely worth repeating!

Fries cold. Salad without dressing and the dishes almost cold. For the prices that are quoted, that should actually be fine. Unfortunately very disappointing!

Tonight we went to Strand Huys Makkum for a drink. We wanted to sit outside but went inside after more than 20 minutes because we were not helped, even though we had made eye contact with the staff several times. Ultimately we were able to sit outside, but only after passing our drinks inside. After the last round we paid for and drank our drinks. When these were gone we wanted to use the toilet before we drove home for more than half an hour. When we wanted to go inside, the doors were closed and we could no longer use the toilet. We regret that we were not told that they would be closing their doors.

2.3km Fussweg aus der Stadt, sicher kann man auch fahren. Terasse mit Blick auf das Meer. Reichhaltiges Frühstücks-Buffet. Sollte für jeden was bei sein.

Starting with the ambience, it is right on the beach, beautifully decorated outside as well as inside. Staff is very nice and friendly. Unfortunately the food wasn't satisfactory, the burger was a disappointment. Especially for the price of 21.50. The bread was dry and hard, the meat was too well done and there was cheese, salad, etc. Nothing was tasty.

We met friendly staff on site. The order (carpaccio & bread platter) was served quickly and tasted good. Price performance was right. Average drinks at usual prices. Ambience very pleasant, clean & tidy.

Wat hadden we zin om even een lekker avondje uit eten te gaan met het gezin. Gereserveerd op hun site en om 20.30 melden we ons. We mochten een zelf een plekje uitzoeken, het was niet druk. En dat was het..... Er werd geen menu kaart gebracht, er werd niet gevraagd of we wat wilden drinken. Na 20 minuten wachten, en geen bediening in het zicht, zijn we maar vertrokken. Wat een teleurstelling. Je mag verwachten dat je in een restaurant bediend wordt en dat je niet zelf op zoek hoeft naar iemand om je bestelling door te geven. Echt jammer. Volgende dag bericht gestuurd naar het management, maar geen reactie op gekregen. Zonde van zo'n mooie plek aan het Ijsselmeer. En zonde van ons gezellige avondje.

Nice location, but the food is way below par in terms of price/quality. I had a classic burger that cost - don't be alarmed - €24. What do you get for that? A regular hamburger sandwich with half a portion of fries. For that price, I expect a burger that will make your mouth water and a plate of fries that will make you dread it. I don't like to post negative reviews, but this is really not good.

Unfortunately, things have been getting worse in all areas for years.

Our food had not arrived after an hour, when we asked if it would take longer the lady said it could take another 20 minutes. The service didn't speak Dutch and our 2nd drink was also forgotten. We canceled the meal and were not even reimbursed for the one wine we ordered. As far as we're concerned, it's a ball tent, never go there again! Poor communication and not delivering on what is promised.

Very tasty food, the burgers tasted to a high standard and were excellent. The service spoke good German and English. The service was very quick. Absolutely recommended!

Wat een leuke plek met mooi uitzicht op het IJsselmeer. Leuke kaart, lekkerste tomatensoep ooit en hele vriendelijke bediening. Ook onze hondjes waren meer dan welkom.

We hadden hier met de collega's een lopend buffet, was niets mis mee. Onze serveerster Jessica was een topper, wist in haar eentje 23 mensen goed van drankjes te voorzien.

Hier gegeten op Koningsdag, we hadden niet gereserveerd maar hadden geluk dat er nog een tafeltje vrij was. Vriendelijke bediening en genoten van voor- en hoofdgerecht (flinke porties, we kregen het niet eens op). Een aanrader!

Nice to get a table on Saturday evening without booking in advance. Nice service, food and drinks came without a long wait. The taste was good and the price was right too. Can be recommended.

We came here today around 5:00 PM. After we ordered our drinks, we were surprised to hear that the kitchen was closed until 5:30 PM. Fortunately, we had brought games to keep us entertained for a while, but this should have been indicated. Service is not well informed about the menu and dishes and communication is unclear. Staff comes across as very insecure/uninterested. (For example, our ravioli was served as falafel 😅) The food was mediocre, nothing special. The ravioli was said to contain truffle and wild mushrooms, but there was really nothing to taste. And the Tom Kha Kai soup didn't really taste like Tom Kha Kai unfortunately. I think the prices are considerably too high for what you get. The terrace is in a nice place, nice view and nice from the wind because of the screens. It is also neat and clean. But all in all I wouldn't recommend this and wouldn't come again.

In the winter garden, very rustic but cool, beach bar feeling and then you go into the restaurant and can't close your mouth anymore...amazingly great interior. Service very nice and quick. Food delicious. I have to go here again.
