A restaurant with a stunning view, right on the seafront. Delicious food, an excellent Chardonnay, and other good drinks. Everything was served quickly. Very friendly and attentive waiters. We highly recommend this restaurant!

The tables were dirty and sticky, and according to the employee, this was due to the material of the tables. After we asked them to clean the table anyway, it was done with a cloth that wasn't very clean. The table turned out to be sticky. We used the menus as placemats. The employee did not smell fresh, reeked strongly of sweat, and we made a comment about this when settling the bill. It was known to his colleagues. The food (lunch) was otherwise good.

The kitchen does a great job, as it has to... To compensate for the service... We went for dinner... We were brought the wrong drinks, and the wait for the drinks was almost as long as for the food. Later, we went out to the terrace for cocktails... Even though there were only 5 tables occupied and 3 waiters... We waited over 20 minutes for the first drink... I went inside to order the second... because we were completely ignored... I would also advise against the Sex on the Beach... It doesn't even look the way it's supposed to... There was no grapefruit juice in it, and the alcohol was barely noticeable... Among other things, they use a Smirnoff base... which is sweet on its own...

A drink and six bitterballen. After a short wait, the bitterballen were brought by a waitress who sped off again without making any contact. We asked her where our drinks were. She ran away without answering. The drinks arrived. Next to us, a table had ordered hot chocolate. It arrived cold – so back it went. Cobwebs and fries on the floor. A filthy mess. Paying inside. After I had paid by card, the lady didn't know how fast she could get away. I wanted a receipt, and that was just about all they could afford. I voiced the above remarks, which resulted in a shrug. So, don't go there until the management has trained the very young crew. They need to get the politeness, hospitality, and cleanliness in order first. Ugh. Disappointing. A waste of the beautiful spot.

Today, after sitting outside for 15 minutes, I went inside to see if there was any wait staff walking around at all. I saw one person cleaning something and a second person behind a pillar responding to my question about whether we could order something. A little later, the person who was cleaning came to take our order. With a not-so-friendly attitude... and we noticed that at the other tables as well. We ordered a bread board as a snack... we had to wait another fifteen minutes for that after our drinks... and then you expect nice warm pull-apart bread and such... but it probably took that long to thaw the bread because it was ice cold... In short... do something about your staff and service...! Terrible!!!

Unfortunately, my kipsaté skewer was under the heat lamp for too long, and the sauce was more thick than liquid. A bit of a shame. Otherwise, a very nice location.

The service is very poor and completely unsuitable for the hospitality industry. Most of them are grumpy or rude. This makes the nice place a lot less attractive, which is a shame. The food is good, though!

Great view of the IJsselmeer, provided you manage to snag a spot outside, in the conservatory, or on the terrace, for which no reservations were taken. Reservations are only accepted for the indoor area, but if there's space outside, you can go there. The food wasn't plentiful for the price, nor was it attractively presented or particularly tasty, but it was okay. The exception: the fries. They were good and plentiful, which made up for the otherwise rather small portions. The children really liked the burger. The service seemed disorganized, somewhat overwhelmed, and only moderately friendly. Special feature: Around the outdoor area, there are seating areas with a sea view, perfect for casually enjoying a drink. A great spot for a sundowner.

Trendy beach bar: atmospheric decor, friendly people, top spot right on the beach

Very well located on the beach. However, sometimes you have to wait an hour for the server to come outside, or they simply walk by. Otherwise, good food and drinks with a sea view.

The food is good, but they make you wait a good 50 minutes to order drinks. Then you walk to the bar and they tell you to order outside, after walking inside 4 times and 50 minutes later, we finally get our drinks.

No idea, it took too long before someone came to take the order.

The view was absolutely beautiful, and the restaurant was very child-friendly. The ambiance was also lovely and well-maintained. However, we had to wait almost 30 minutes before we could order drinks. It took almost as long for our drinks to finally arrive, and the restaurant wasn't even full.

Nice beach bar in itself, but the staff are incredibly slow... no hello, no goodbye. If I hadn't walked over to the bar myself, we would probably still be waiting now...

The service was unfortunately very uninspired: drinks were simply placed on the edge of the table instead of being served to guests. There were also significant shortcomings with the food: the meat was explicitly ordered well-done, but wasn't even medium. Even the burger patty was far too undercooked – which is unacceptable, especially with ground beef. A real shame considering the high prices.

We ate here with a party of 10 for dinner. We ordered many of the menu items and they ranged from barely ok to completely inedible. We ordered the steak well done and it was served medium rare at best. The grilled salmon was essentially raw. The falafel burger came in a regrettable, dry bun and was awfully mushy. The fillings in the tortellini had a strange kind of flavor. I had to scrape it out with surgical precision and slather the remaining shell in tomato sauce to make it acceptable for the children. The remaining dishes were similarly unappetizing. Sadly, the food was not the worst part of the dining experience for it was overshadowed by the unacceptable service quality. We attempted to request a few, small adjustments to the dishes, such as exchanging the red wine sauce with the steak for a pepper sauce which was available with a different dish, exchanging rice for the French fries that come with the salmon, and ordering the burger without the regular topics. To our dismay we were informed that all our requests were denied because it is "too difficult to accommodate special requests". When the 10 different drinks arrived they were placed at the end of the table and it was up to us to distribute them amongst the diners. Overall, out entire party walked out of this restaurant utterly unsatisfied and about €350 poorer.

We had lunch there today. Delicious croquettes on delicious bread for lunch. And the rendang croquettes were very tasty. Service was top-notch, a cheerful lady. We will definitely stop by again when we go on a long motorcycle ride.

We had an Aperol Spritz with a great view, but where was the Aperol? ...and a Long Island Iced Tea, which was equally poorly prepared. It was the worst Long Island Iced Tea we've ever had; it tasted like cola with ice and a sprig of mint. For almost €10 per cocktail, even the great view couldn't make up for it. We definitely won't be back.

Food was really tasty. Had lunch for four people and all the dishes looked incredible and tasted great. Would recommend. However, the service was really bad. Slow, but also not attentive. They cleaned tables, but did such a half job that people were still under the impression that the table was occupied. Also took incredibly long to just get some drinks. Some of these things would be understandable if it is really busy, but that was not the case. Again, food was nice and it was not a terrible experience but the staff showed that hospitality is a skill, but they clearly lacked it.

Service is really starting to be bad. The last 2 times we have been there, getting your drinks takes 20 minutes. The menu is still nothing special. Not a lot of fish related dishes, while the place is at sea :). The place is close to the beach that is all

Great location. We went there for the breakfast buffet. Even non-hotel guests can eat there. The staff were incredibly friendly; we felt welcome right away. There was free seating, including an outdoor area. The selection was fantastic – everything you could wish for. There was also a lovely children's play area.

The staff unfriendly and poor service Never come back again

Not friendly. I felt treated unfairly because of my ethnicity, starting from ordering drinks. It was like I was asking for free food. The service was terrible considering the price. They work in the service industry but act like they're working for free.

It was way too hot inside, and everything looks a bit outdated. The food is fine, but for the exorbitant price here, it is terrible; a piece of salmon for 26 euros that costs a few euros at Sligro. Literally nothing was done to it except heat it up; a real waste of money. But to top it all off, there is the service; I have never felt so unwelcome anywhere. An average McDonald's branch is closer to a Michelin restaurant in terms of service than these people are to the service at McDonald's. Absolutely no interest in their work; food and drinks are placed on the table and they can't even manage a "bon appétit" every time; the question of whether everything was tasty also sounded like a farmer with a toothache. I would advise everyone in the neighborhood to stay away from here; your presence might be appreciated elsewhere, but absolutely not here.

The service was arrogant and lazy; we were blatantly ignored. The tables were dirty. We waited a total of 30 minutes for someone to come to us, and then it turned out the kitchen was only open until 9 PM. Overall, it was a disaster. The only star was for the good beer.

Nice place, but the hotel reception staff weren't very friendly or helpful. For an extra €20 a night, you get a terrace, but they tell you they don't have an ashtray, and at lunchtime, when you ask for fresh towels, they tell you they don't know the cleaning lady's route. The restaurant service wasn't very fast, but the breakfast was good. There are surely better and cheaper options not too far away. I wouldn't recommend this accommodation, sorry. The village itself is great, with friendly shopkeepers.

The waitstaff were going at it so fast that you would think they were qualifying for the marathon. Unfortunately, they sprinted right past the tables that had already finished eating; those tables were lingering somewhere along the route. Remarkable, because it was anything but busy, yet there was a sort of slight panic in the air. Fortunately, the kitchen made up for a lot: the food was truly delicious and of excellent quality. Unfortunately, due to the chaotic service, we skipped dessert, even though the kitchen actually deserved a sweet finale.

A lovely stay here in Makkum at Strandhuys Makkum

The location and ambiance were excellent. The interior was very nice. The food was also quite tasty. However, they were unfortunately inflexible when it came to changing the order. Main courses were always served with fries and a small side of vegetables. It wasn't possible to exchange the fries for a portion of rice – I had to order and pay for that separately. I found that very petty.

It was much more pleasant here, and the food was delicious. Thank you very much.

A very nice hotel. We only had breakfast there. It was delicious and had everything you could want.

When we still hadn't been served after 10 minutes, we just left. Strandbar Thuishaven, however, is highly recommended. It's located across the street.

Be sure to come back more often

Very poor service. We were told they weren't allowed to order anymore because they were short-staffed, so we just left. Not recommended.

Bad service, long wait, I went to ask for 2 coffees and apple pie. Finally the coffee, no apple pie, they forgot, they bring it when you have finished the coffee and that is now the second time that this has happened to us, will not come back

I had a wonderful time with my children enjoying a large snack platter and natchos, lovingly served by the dark-skinned lady with a sweet smile. She spoiled the children with their choice of desserts and even let them choose their own toppings. I've eaten here several times, and it's always a pleasure.

Everything was okay, but something was missing to make it truly great. The food was okay, but not really hot. The service was friendly, but a bit forced. The ambiance was okay, but quite cold at our table. I don't regret it, but I don't need to go back.

We were here with the family on Boxing Day, and what a disgrace it was! €42.50 per person, excluding drinks, so you expect a lot. But no. Grumpy staff who forgot everything, and the food was cold, which didn't taste good either. We'll never be back!

Het Strandhuys in Makkum is a lovely place to eat, with a beautiful view of the beach and the IJsselmeer. The food is delicious and of good quality, with plenty of choice on the menu. An added bonus is that there's free parking, which makes for a very relaxing visit. The atmosphere is cozy and relaxed, making it a great place to relax after a walk on the beach. Definitely recommended for anyone looking for a delicious meal in a beautiful location.

Wonderful restaurant right on the IJsselmeer 😍

Price/performance: Disappointing food temperature for burgers (€25) and ribs with wings (€27). The bread and dip platter was good. There were three of us. There were three knives. Why no small plates? We had to clear the table. 🤔Staff was understaffed and overwhelmed. Dog poop on the restaurant floor was covered with white paper towels by the dog owners and only cleaned up after the dog's meal. The staff were aware of the problem and didn't take immediate action. New guests with strollers rolled over the towels. Our table wasn't cleaned even after we sat down. We arrived at 7 p.m. and had to wait until 8:30 p.m. for two burgers and one ribs and wings.

Wonderful view, incredibly cozy, absolutely friendly, and very, very child-friendly. Our youngest's porridge was warmed up, and spoons and other items were offered. The older children can play in the sand within sight. This makes for a harmonious dining experience, even with children, and we'll be happy to return.

Of course, the accompanying hotel also deserves praise. The food here was sublime, and the beer menu was excellent. The jus with the main course was more than perfect, and it was honestly the best I've ever had with a steak.

I can only recommend this hotel restaurant with reservations. The burgers aren't worth €25. You can get better ones (freshness, preparation, taste) for €15 everywhere nearby. €5 for a 0.33l soda or beer is also too expensive. The ambiance is great thanks to the location and the view, but I usually see cobwebs on the tables, dirty tables full of dishes, and empty bottles lying around as evidence of well-trained, dedicated staff, and they quickly clear them away! The wait times are average to long. The staff were friendly and helpful. The restaurant was only moderately busy, but the staff said they were "very busy" at the moment.

The food was okay. The ambiance was very good, but the staff was terrible. They were overwhelmed with five tables (I come from a restaurant background myself) and were also very disorganized (uncoordinated).

A delicious high tea at a very reasonable price in a lovely setting and ambiance. Very friendly staff who go above and beyond to make your stay enjoyable. Everything was delicious and of excellent quality, with plenty of variety. In short, definitely worth repeating and highly recommended.

A lovely place to linger – stylish, with a stunning view, and ideal for a coffee break. But given the prices, the added value is questionable. If you're on a budget, it's better to have breakfast in town and then enjoy the same stunning view, only then on the beach, at no extra cost.

69 euros for a couple of rolls?! We rented a house at the Makkum Beach Resort for a few days. On the morning of our departure, we went to the restaurant after asking for a small breakfast. Although we were told the buffet had already ended, we were still offered a few rolls with sliced cheese and ham to eat on site. For our family (two adults, two children), these were just a few simple rolls – no drinks or extras. Drinks were offered to the table next to us, but we didn't ask. Nevertheless, to our great surprise, the bill arrived: 69 euros! After our complaint, the amount was reduced to 40 euros, but it was still completely disproportionate.

Most of the staff is Spanish so you have to speak another language, the beer was knocked over by the staff, the phone was wet, the bag was wet and the atmosphere is okay, outside it just feels like you are in a half-built building

The atmosphere was unpleasant, with service in shorts and sweatpants, only English-speaking staff, and a long wait for the food. After eating, six out of eight people got sick. So, in conclusion, we won't be returning.

We wanted to make a reservation for 6:30 PM with a group of eight family members, but this wasn't possible. We did make a reservation for 6:45 PM, and when we arrived at that time, the restaurant was far from full. The table we'd reserved was still dirty. As for the ambiance, there weren't any candles burning anywhere, the fireplace wasn't lit, and one host was unfriendly, while the other staff didn't speak Dutch, forcing us to communicate in English. The food wasn't bad, but it wasn't great either, and the next day, four of the eight family members suffered from stomach cramps and diarrhea. In short, we'll never go back to the beach house in Makkum; the price-quality ratio is completely out of whack.

We had a great meal and the (friendly) staff were very helpful. Definitely recommended; there's something for everyone! Don't forget to check out the drinks menu. It features delicious nachos and loaded fries. Worth repeating!

Disappointing experience despite the delicious food. The food was undoubtedly delicious, but unfortunately, the overall experience was significantly overshadowed by the poor service. We constantly had to wait a very long time for both our food and drinks. The waitstaff was barely attentive; if our glass was empty, it sometimes took more than half an hour for someone to come by. The waitress in question also came across as unprofessional and rude. She frequently sat on tables and chairs near guests, made inappropriate comments, and condescendingly told us what we could and could not order. She also frequently spoke in a shouty tone, which made the atmosphere very unpleasant. From a restaurant with a good reputation, I would have expected at least a basic level of customer service and professionalism. Unfortunately, this visit fell far short of that.

Mooi uitzicht maar op terras plakkerige tafels en stoelen op terras. Stoel zat onder de Currisaus en werd niet goed schoongemaakt na vriendelijk vragen. Ik heb zelf maar een andere stoel gepakt. Bedienend personeel spreekt alle talen behalve nederlands en fries. Bedienend personeel zit sneller bij hun vrienden aan tafel dan dat ze nieuwe gasten die plaatsnemen te woord staan. Binnen is het prachtig ingericht en schone wc's. Eten kwam snel en was prima. goede prijs kwaliteit goed

Delicious food and great location

Paar dagen vakantie in Friesland, eerste avond maar wat eten in Het Strand Huys Makkum. We werden in het Engels aangesproken, in Amsterdam is dat gewoon maar in Makkum? We besloten tot een Frisker blond en een tonic. De Frisker Blond gebrouwen door Brouwdok, het bier heeft zure nasmaak en de THT ontbreekt, bewust?? Ik bestel buikspek met rode aardappel puree, zeer smaakvol, maar koud geserveerd, het zou een warm gerecht zijn. Ook bestelden we een proeverij van soep, deze is prima. Dat van de temperatuur vertelde ik de serveerster, haal Engels schoot helaas tekort. Geen herhalings gevaar

We had reserved a table (the staff also wrote it down in front of me). When we arrived that evening, we were told that pre-ordering wasn't possible. So we had to sit in the second-rate side room, which we wanted to avoid. After we ordered, for some reason, a waitress opened an outside door, and an unpleasantly cold wind blew around our ears. After all the warm air had been blown away, another waitress closed the door again with the words, "What's that?" Then another family came in. As one of the people said, they had pre-ordered. The waitress nodded and pointed to the table that had been prepared for 10 people. The drinks came quickly. The food was okay, as long as you don't mind the meat, which you could order "well done," being rare. We had cocktails the night before. Unfortunately, it consisted of over 85% ice and, based on the taste (commonly known standard cocktails), was not recommended. Will we eat/drink there again? Probably not anytime soon.

Cosy atmosphere but staff does not come by quickly to take orders. We waited almost half an hour and until then still no one came to us. We wanted to eat something but left because no one comes by. This is a shame because you sit there nicely. P is really disappointing for such a business.

The view is spectacular. The service is friendly but sometimes a bit forgetful... the restaurant has a nice, modern design. If you want to sit outside, you shouldn't have a problem with cobwebs, as the little spiders are very busy here. The food is delicious, but a bit expensive.

The Strandhuys' location is truly beautiful—right on the water with a fantastic view. Unfortunately, our visit was rather disappointing overall. The service was friendly, but not particularly attentive or quick. We had to wait quite a while before we could even order. The food, unfortunately, was only mediocre. Charging €25 for a regular burger is quite a lot—especially when the taste is nothing special. The BBQ platter with three ribs and four chicken wings for €27 was also disappointing: the portion was small, the food wasn't particularly well prepared, and overall, it just wasn't worth the money. Overall, the value for money here isn't great. It's okay for a drink with a view of the water, but we definitely wouldn't come back for the food.

Kellnerin eigentlich freundlich gewesen aber da wir was bestellt hatten was nicht gekommen ist und auch nicht auf der Rechnung stand, würde ich da persönlich nie wieder hingehen, Man brauch schon kompetentes Personal was auch richtig für diesen Beruf ist ,sie sollten mal über ihr Personal nachdenken.!!!

When we entered, the staff helped us nicely. We were there around 5:00 PM, but the kitchen opened at 5:30 PM. The young lady went to the kitchen to ask if we could order something. We had 2 chicken satay, 1 with fries and 1 with rice. The fries were not tasty, probably old fat. The satay was made from chicken thighs, which is always a bit fatter, and if you hate fat... We left more than half of it. 1 cola 1 orange juice 2 x chicken satay Price almost €65.00 Not worth coming here again.

The service and the ocean view are great, but the cocktails are overpriced for the quality. The mojitos don't taste that good. There are no limes in them, and one of the mojito cocktails didn't have any mint in it either, just a syrup that tasted artificial. The avocado burger isn't that great either. It's a deep-fried patty made of avocado and corn, and the rest of the burgers aren't great either. The fries are tasty, though.

The ribs and wings are a bad choice. They were cold and not cooked properly. After reporting this, the plate was taken to the kitchen. It immediately came back that that was how it should be.
