What a fantastic restaurant! Reasonably priced, incredibly delicious food (and they have an excellent Primitivo in stock – highly recommended!), and exceptionally friendly service. How nice it is to eat together from one plate with your hands! But if you don't want that, they'll just give you your own plate; they're not fussy about that. I've become a regular there now, taking all my friends and colleagues there because I want them to experience the pleasure that comes from the kitchen too. Do yourself a favor and try it too!

Ethiopian cuisine is incredibly good! The food was delicious, the flavors and aromas were amazing! ♡ We ordered a platter for two with various dishes, and the waitress gave us good advice on which one was best for our first taste of Ethiopian cuisine. The beer was delicious! Eating with your hands was a fun (and delicious) experience. The restaurant's decor was quite simple, with beautiful paintings on the walls. One men's and one women's restroom, but everything was neat and clean, and there was a place to wash "the cutlery" (read: your hands) 😉

Delicious, fun and original food!

It was a great taste sensation! Nice to have a chat with the chef and nice to be helped with our first time eating Ethiopian food! Both sambusas are highly recommended and the combination misto, tebs & your goddess atint (see photo) is highly recommended for a variety of different flavors!

What a fantastic meal we had yesterday. I was new but my fellow diners were not. We could not choose from all the delicious food on the menu and asked the owner to prepare a plate with everything and anything. And what a delicacy he and the Ethiopian cook put on the table. Very nice that they keep up the tradition by not having cutlery. Nice to eat with your hands. And the experience did not disappoint. Staff extremely polite! Super job and we will definitely come back soon!

First time trying Ethiopian food and it was absolutely delicious. The owner is warm and welcoming, she really looked after us and the food was made with love. 💕 The flavours were amazing! Best vegan options around, you won’t get any fresher!

We hebben hier ook gegeten en de beoordeling kloppen helemaal. We hadden een gerecht met vlees en vegetarische. De gastvrouw adviseerde ons om de wat rouwe tartaar niet te nemen om dat veel gasten dit niet zouden kiezen. Maar we kregen bij onze eten toch een bakje tartaar om te proberen en dat was ook lekker dus volgende keer zeker proberen. Kortom wij hebben heerlijk gegeten en komen zeker nog een keer terug. Een echte aanrader.

When you arrive at the door of the beautiful old building, you don't know what to expect. As soon as you enter you can smell the fresh herbs and the complex flavors. The restaurant is cozy and full of life. The original menu offers plenty of choice for everyone. The Ethiopian beers are tasty, but you have to love them. The chef is truly a wonder. In addition to having a nice chat, she also really brings Ethiopia to a plate. All in all a fantastic experience and highly recommended for anyone who wants something different than burgers or pasta!

Unfortunately, the taste of the food was difficult for me to estimate due to little taste due to residual symptoms of corona. I did taste the sour pancake under the meat. Not so. It was very busy on a Saturday evening. Reservations required because it was full!!! Too busy for few staff. Atmosphere... Not much atmosphere, but that may have been due to the crowds (too full).

Hartelijke ontvangst, vriendelijke gastheer en een ongedwongen sfeer. Genoten van een bananenbiertje uit een speciaal glas (😉🤣) en heerlijke combinaties gegeten. Afgesloten met ijs en een koffie/thee. Prijs kwaliteitsverhouding prima.

Had a really delicious Ethiopian meal here last night! Extremely friendly service, special wishes no problem. All dishes taste delicious and, depending on your preference, mild to very spicy. In short: really enjoyed it, highly recommended! 👍

Wat wij niet gewend waren was dat je met je handen kon eten! Eten was lekker en de thee is ook zeker een aanrader + een aardige serveerster😁.

Overall it was not a good experience. The cleanliness in particular left much to be desired. The service took a very long time, was sometimes curt and even sometimes refused when something was requested. The food itself tasted good, but the quantity was insufficient. 1 small chicken leg per person as a main course Doro Wet is really not a good amount. The only positive is that the food did taste authentic.

Awazé in Amersfoort is een excellent Ethiopisch restaurant. We zijn al vaker in andere steden naar Ethiopische restaurants geweest, maar deze steekt er met kop en schouders bovenuit. De kwaliteit van het eten is bovengemiddeld. Een bijzonder geslaagde balans van groenten en vlees - waarbij vooral de kalfsribbetjes opvielen, maar ook de Kitfo met ayub (enigszins vergelijkbaar met een tartaarbiefstuk) zijn een streling voor de tong. De keuken weet het precies goed te kruiden. De bediening is uitstekend, zeer vriendelijk en alert. We waren er op een vrijdagavond, het was dan wel erg druk, maar dat zegt ook iets over de kwaliteit die Awazé te bieden heeft. Om het in Michelin-termen te zeggen - Awazé is een reis waard. Een klein puntje van kritiek betreft de belichting, op sommige plaatsen is het nogal donker zodat zelfs de menukaart moeilijk te lezen was. Maar dit mag de pret niet verminderen - een ware aanrader niet alleen voor de liefhebber van de Ethiopische keuken

Excellent restaurant! Very friendly waitress. Clear menu with also a wide choice for vegans. Food was delicious! The beetroot and kale in particular were very tasty. But of course also the main course. And all with good injera. Excellent sambusa starter, Kotom: highly recommended! And the prices are also very affordable.

Exceptionally good Ethiopian food. I’ve been a couple of times (it’s my birthday go-to spot), and each time we were blown away by the quality of the food and the friendly atmosphere of the restaurant and staff that make you feel right at home. Yes, you do eat with your hands. They also provide plenty of napkins at the table in case that doesn’t go so well (or, in our case, bring children along). Speaking of kids, they have a large tub of toys for children that they’re happy to bring out, if you’re with some young ones who get a little stir crazy. In our most recent visit, we ordered doro wat, tebs, and then…I wasn’t sure what else I should order. The waiter was extremely knowledgeable and helpful in recommending dishes that would work for everyone, and as a result our entire group — from my two-year-old daughter to my 78-year-old dad — had an amazing evening. A couple of notes: There’s no English menu (but all staff speaks English, so just ask questions!), they’re often closed for a couple weeks in August for summer holidays, and they do take reservations (but from my experience, I don’t think they’re usually too busy — but both times we’ve shown up shortly after they opened at 17:00.

Wat een leuk restaurant. Heerlijk gegeten..we kozen voor eten delen en kregen de 2 gerechten geserveerd op een grote ronde schaal met van die pannekoekjes erbij om met de hand op te eten. Zowel vleesgerecht als linzen waren zo enorm smaakvol. Enorm goede combinatie. Wow wat een aanrader dit. Wist niet dat Ethiopisch zo onwijs lekker is.! Ik raad dit echt aan.

Good was pretty good but not exceptional. Had some vegan options which were nice, but these weren't as spicy as I had hoped. Service was friendly, atmosphere was ok.

We had a delicious meal at Awazé and enjoyed the friendly family restaurant atmosphere. We ate No. 6 (Alecha - beef with Ethiopian herbs) and No. 13 (Atekelt Wet - beetroot, potatoes, carrots, among others), in combination with the gluten-free injera. It was delicious and the restaurant was very well attended. We know why 😀

Nice restaurant in the city center of Amersfoort. The service is fast, friendly and helpful and gives good tips about the dishes. The food provides plenty of meat, fish and vegan options. The food is sometimes a bit spicy, but very tasty. The food is served on a communal plate, but can also be served separately. According to Ethiopian tradition, you can eat by hand and serve the food with Ethiopian bread, but there is also cutlery available for those who prefer to use cutlery.

We had a delicious meal there, there are not very many main courses, but they are all really tasty with enough variety. Eating together is also very pleasant here

At first we completely missed the restaurant. It does not stand out in the street scene. But once you've found it, you can enjoy a delicious meal here. At the table it is well explained what Ethiopian food means and what the intention is. We just asked for a nice combination of both meat and vegetarian dishes. A large bowl full of tasty things came to the table. We enjoyed this with the pancakes. Definitely recommended. One of the few downsides is that there are almost no desserts. They don't get any further than two standard (read boring) Dutch desserts here.

This is my second time here and I'm still thrilled. Very tasty and authentic cuisine. I am familiar with this region.

Geweldig en verrassend eten, vriendelijke correcte bediening. Als het druk is duurt alles wel wat langer, maar de smaak is het wachten zeker waard.

Ik was opzoek naar een bijzondere keuken in Amersfoort. Plots zag ik Ethiopisch staan, een keuken waarvan ik nog nooit gegeten had. Awaze is een kleinschalig restaurant waar je kan genieten van de Ethiopische gerechten, deze worden geserveerd op een soort van pannenkoek die je met je handen eet. Zeer smaakvol, met onder andere rijst, rundvlees, kip, linzen en groenten. De bediening is zeer vriendelijk en helpt je graag met het uitkiezen.

We merkten wel dat deze lieve mensen in de service en sfeer er nog niet helemaal waren; maar dat komt vast goed! 👍Graag komen we nog eens terug om heerlijk te eten- van de ‘watjes’ kip 🙏

Ресторан, конечно, странный. Или непривычный. Очень маленький, меньше десятка столиков. Медленно готовят. Но готовят разнообразно и интересно! Темно, поэтому сложно разобраться, что там в тарелке. Хотя последнее имеет преимущество. Поскольку вилок не дают, предполагается еда при помощи ржаного блина. Так я под конец на него забил и ел рукой, всё равно в темноте никто не осудит.😁 Еда довольно острая. Много мяса, я даже немного испугался за жителей Эфиопии. Но в целом, интересный экспириенс, всем советую попробовать. Сумма чека 65 на двоих.

Het eten is heerlijk gekruid, ze hebben ook goede veganistische opties, en wordt gerund door een lief gezin. Zeker een aanrader om hier een keer te eten!

Bijzonder restaurant met een bijzonder menu. Niet al te uitgebreid weliswaar maar erg lekker. De basis (soort pannenkoek maar van een speciale Ethiopische graansoort) is wel even wennen qua smaak. Deze is erg luchtig en de kleur grijs. Je scheurt een stuk af en gebruikt dat als "bestek" om de gerechten te pakken en op te eten. Veel verschillende vullingen. Vergis je niet in de hoeveelheid. Voor mij was 1 portie meer dan voldoende en ruimte voor een dessert was er niet. De bediening door de eigenaresse zelf was vlot en vriendelijk en nam rustig de tijd ook wat achtergrond info over Ethiopië te geven. Ook de vrouw vd keuken kwam nog even langs om rte informeren of alles naar wens was. Zeker voor herhaling vatbaar. Het Ethiopische biertje smaakte er trouwens prima bij hoewel ik de smaak niet vond verschillen van een gewone Heineken. Maar ik ben ook geen echte bierkenner/fijnproever

Ik heb hier afgelopen zaterdag gegeten en het was heerlijk. Het eten wordt geserveerd op een groot rond Ethiopisch brood dat in het midden van de tafel wordt gezet. Met je handen kun je met behulp van het brood de gerechten oppakken. Wij hadden een combinatie en he rundvlees en kip waren mals en goed gekruid. De vegetarische gerechten voelen goed in de smaak rn de witte wijn was heel bijzonder. Aanrader!

En unieke ervaring voor mensen die vrijwel altijd alles met bestek eten. Heel smakelijk gegeten. Kip en ei oké, en de groenten zagen er erg mooi uit en hadden goede gaarheid. De bietjes waren ingelegd. Mmmm. We waren met een grote groep van werk. Niet iedereen kreeg op hetzelfde moment het eten opgediend. Later bleek dat een lieftallige kleine dappere kokkin in haar eentje kookte. Petje af voor de kok, die met een stralende glimlach aan ons kwam vragen wat we ervan vonden. Nou prima! Het enige waar we allemaal last van hadden was de akoestiek. Jongens, kijk eens of je daar wat verbetering in kunt brengen. Plafondplaten, mos aan de muur, kleden op de grond, verzin het maar.

Wir sind da eher zufällig drüber gestolpert und spontan rein. Es passte einfach alles. Haben uns sehr wohl gefühlt und sehr gut (vegan) gegessen.

Wish I had discovered this restaurant sooner. What a great find in Amersfoort. Excellent food, including great vegan options. Great service. Wines by the glass were surprisingly good. I wish they had more soft surfaces - it’s very noisy, and it’s too bad they have no terrace seating. But otherwise highly recommend.

Heerlijk eten! Als je een keer iets bijzonders wil en ook nog gezellig eten wil delen, is dit de plek. Het verdient eigenlijk meer ruimte, want het staat nu al behoorlijk vol tafels waardoor het soms wat krap voelt. Zonde want er zouden nog veel meer mensen van dit eten mogen genieten!

Oh wow. This is a great restaurant. My wife and I have just had dinner here and we were blown away. We asked the owner to prepare a variety of things for us and surprise us. What we got was amazing. Such rich and varied flavours, multiple sorts of meat coupled with vegetarian things, it was just amazing. The owner took time to explain everything to us and the whole experience was so friendly, so hospitable, just great. And we were pleasantly surprised by the bill afterwards, we found the prices to be absolutely reasonable. We will definitely come back here !

Super leuk restaurant om een keer te gaan eten. Het personeel is ontzettend gastvrij en geeft goed advies over het eten en de verschillende drankjes. Echt een super leuke avond gehad wat anders is dan de standaard restaurants.

We've eaten Ethiopian food at numerous restaurants in Europe and the US and this one is excellent. All of the flavors are great, portions are generous, and the service is friendly. Our favorite dish is the alecha.

Voor de eerste keer kennisgemaakt met de Ethiopische keuken. De authentieke gerechten waren stuk voor stuk heerlijk gekruid en verrassend. Alles werd op een grote schaal geserveerd en met de handen in een soort van hartige pannenkoek gegeten. De zaak wordt gerund door een vriendelijk en hardwerkend koppel. Wij komen zeker terug.

We gingen op een woensdagavond, 4 personen, niet druk, ober was vriendelijk en enthousiast om ons meer te vertellen over het restaurant en het eten. We konden met z'n vieren een mix van vanalles bestellen. Voor 2 van ons volledig vegan. En op deze manier konden we vanalles proeven. De kokin kwam na het brengen van het eten zelf even langs om te vragen of alles naar wens was. Zeker een aanrader. Zit iets aan de prijzige kant, maar is heerlijk eten en de prijs ook waard.

We werden heel vriendelijk en behulpzaam ontvangen, en geholpen met het kiezen van een gerecht. Ook om te proberen een extra pitte gerechtje gekregen. Unieke beleving doordat een soort luchtige pannenkoeken je bestek zijn, en je eet samen van een soort groot bord. Probeer ook het Ethiopische bier. Bijzondere en kruidige gerechten, voorgerecht met bijbehorend sausje is ook een aanrader.

Heerlijk gegeten, bediening is heel aardig! Eerste keer dat wij hier waren. Fijne smaken, veel kruiden. En een Ethiopisch biertje erbij.

Na een lange dag klussen ivm verhuizing naar Amersfoort, zijn we naar Awazé geweest. Voor mij de eerste ervaring met de Ethiopische keuken. We waren aan de late kant, het personeel was al naar huis. Maar de super aardige gastvrouw verwelkomde ons met open armen. We kregen uitleg over de gerechten. Ze nam alle tijd voor ons en heeft daarna alle gerechten (voor 5 personen) zelf klaargemaakt. En hoe! Alles vers, heerlijk gekruid, mooi opgemaakte borden, alles was verrukkelijk! We hebben er met z'n 5en ontzettend van genoten. Ook van de gastvrouw. Wat een bijzondere, aardige, mooie, grappige en wijze vrouw. We hebben echt plezier gehad. Een geweldige afsluiter van een lange dag. Ik kijk al weer uit naar de volgende keer.
