we really wanted to try rice vlaai and kept seeing recommendations for this bakery, so we stopped by in the morning. we ended up buying a whole (small) one since they were freshly baked, still warm, and couldn't be cut yet. the person who helped us was very nice about this it was tasty enough, bit bland for my tastes, although i suppose we haven't had any other rice vlaai to compare to 😅 we also got a sausage roll here for breakfast and i was extremely dismayed when i bit into it as it was ice cold. probably straight from the fridge. i've never experienced this from a bakery before - usually if something is cold, they'll ask if you'd like to heat it up, right?

Great products, always fresh, the team is always welcoming you with a smile & they do amazing traditional Limburgse Vlaai, easy to order online for pick up. Sometimes, on peak hours, there's a queue, but if you are not in a rush, it's totally worth the waiting. 120% recommended

A must go-to when you are in Maastricht. The vlaai is delicious and all the pastries are just amazing. I’ve had the peach and the cherry vlaai and they are so yummy. I’ve bought other bigger cakes for birthdays and every one of them is just yummier than the previous one. The service is great, the patio seating is perfect and they give you free coffee for the purchase too! It’s very lovely to see the different decorations they have depending on the season

After a customer visit in Maastricht I couldn't go back to the north empty-handed. So I stopped at Bakkerij Hermans for some delicious pieces of pie. The typical small bakery shop radiates joy and fun and I was helped and advised with a smile and a smile (I'm not really a sweet tooth myself) by the ladies behind the counter. Excellent pies! The smallest piece they sell is a quarter of a pie (but they cut it in half for us) and it costs around 5€. We had an apple one and sour cherry and both were delicious. Will go again for sure.

The store has a free espresso machine so you can enjoy your sandwich or cake with a cup of coffee on the small terrace.

It's nice in the store. The people are very friendly. We came for rice pie. This one was just left "bare" in the display case. In no time it was topped with whipped cream. At home we enjoyed the tastiest rice pie with whipped cream we have ever eaten.

When you are in Limburg you should of course eat pie. So we go in here. But so much choice. So choice stress. We are dealing with 6 people, so some things are already excluded due to taste. So the question remains: what's in here, what's in there? Then finally opted for half a rice pie and half an apple pie. Enjoyed this delicious pie. This made our midweek stay in Limburg extra good

From Amsterdam I had to go to court for work and then I searched for "vlaai" and this bakery came up as the best. Because when you are in Limburg, you have to take the real pie to the west, right. Very friendly help from a nice lady and once we got home, we had a delicious piece of pie. I had rice and cherry pie.... Really delicious! Highly recommended.

Excellent bakery! Everything we tried was great. They even had complementary espresso! However if you get an espresso make sure you only take one. The woman got very angry at me when I came back for a second one. I’ve never even seen an angry Dutch person before, they are all so nice. Bad on me I guess, guest coming in to their beautiful city upsetting the social order. Me: one star. Them: five stars!

I came by last night at 1 o'clock and you could see the baker already busy at work for Saturday, then you really have to work hard for it. your business. For years we have been enjoying the Franchipan pies, excellently made by Bakkerij Mathieu Hermans. Our Limburg neighbors took the Franchipan with them when they visited Maastricht again (25 years ago) and then we got one too. So delicious. We have now ordered and picked up the 3 pieces of pies + Strawberry online. And now enjoy! Unprecedented: being able to and continue to deliver the best quality all these years. Bravo!

I used to come there as a small child and now that I am a mother myself I still come regularly when I am in the area.

Without knowing it we had an apartment near this baker/pastry shop that every time you passed by, you could smell fantastic aromas. The place is not very big, but the space in front with the tables is nice. Tasty, fresh products at an excellent price. In the photo it is what was left over from breakfast which was eaten within an hour.

Unfortunately, the rice pie was gone when we stopped by late in the day. According to the somewhat stiff lady behind the counter, you can't get rice pie anywhere at the end of the day. Unfortunately. We did bring a nice piece of apple pie and a chocolate pastry.

After reading other reviews about the Bakkerij Herman we knew we would have to set our alarm to wake up early. The sacrifices were well worth it. We arrived at 9.30 Am with a short line in front of us. After we took a number we joined the line. When our turn came we selected several slices of vlaai. However, to our dismay, we were told they do not cut a slice of every fruit option. What a sweet dilemma. We went with it and narrowed down our choices. We ended up getting an apple and cherry vlaai and a whole small Rijste bitterkoekjes cake. For breakfast, we selected a cherry pastry and chocolate croissants. A nice bonus was the free coffee with our order. We took our goodies outside and enjoyed the croissants with our coffee. My daughter was in heaven. She declared it was the best croissant she ever had. The cherry pastry was amazing as well. I am sure the vlaai and rijste bitterkoekjes will be just as delicious. But first, we need to find some forks. Do yourself a favor and make it your mission to visit this bakery.

One of the best bakkerij in Maastricht. They have very good fresh bread, croissants, pain au chocolate and Vlaai of course. You have to take a token and wait in line on Sundays and the weekends. They have the best pudding and Rice Vlaai in the city. There are also seasonal Vlaai which use seasonal fruits and ingredients. I would suggest ordering in advance if you need larger quantities

During our city trip we wanted to take home a real pie (Dordrecht region). I looked on Google to find out where the tastiest ones were for sale, and this place came up. It was quite a walk from the center. We were glad we were there because it just started to rain. We saw a display case full of pies, but the top layer made it difficult to see what it all was. When it was my turn I asked what types there were. After a deep sigh came the statement: "yes, everything". After I indicated that this was my first visit to this store, an explanation about the different types came with pain and difficulty. Several seemed tasty to us and since we wouldn't be back anytime soon I asked if I could get 4 quarters. If looks could kill I would have been killed right there! Apparently I asked something very strange, which seemed very normal to me. After all, there were also cut pieces... after a lot of sighing, a box was opened and I could indicate what I wanted. I found it an unpleasant experience. After the sighing, I was almost able to indicate that she could keep the pies, but my wife, who was really in the mood for the pies, did not thank me for that. While paying, I also picked up a sausage roll and a coffee roll for the way back home. As a stranger, I didn't feel welcome at all. Which is a shame, because we enjoyed the delicious products from this bakery.

For me there is only one baker in Maastricht and that is Mathieu Hermans. Delicious pie and good bread! 10/10

Best Florentine I've tasted in 40 years.

This bakery is the best in Maastricht. Approved by the king himself when he visited a couple of years ago!

Normaal gesproken bestellen we vooraf altijd en halen het hier dan op, maar we besloten deze keer op de gok toch te gaan. Na ongeveer een half uur buiten wachten konden we kijken wat er binnen nog over was om onze brunch samen te stellen. Gelukkig waren er nog een aantal kleine limburgse vlaaien beschikbaar. Die hebben we dan ook genomen en wat hebben we hiervan genoten. We hebben ze buiten opgegeten en er werd ons nog vriendelijke een bakje koffie aangeboden. Deze bakkerij is een begrip in Limburg en we komen hiervoor eigenlijk toch meestal eenmaal per jaar onze vlaaien halen omdat niks vergelijkt met de vlaaien van Mathieu Hermans. We raden echter wel aan om van te voren te reserveren als je geen beperkte keus wil hebben!

If you have to go to a bakery for a tasty Limburg pie, you have to go to this family bakery. Here they still bake old-fashioned and not in the factory. you will be helped with a smile... the rice custard with whipped cream and chocolate is one of the best available! and the rest is of course fantastic too. Please note that the machine for your number is hanging outside next to the door! This bakery is a gem that is a bit hidden but is sooo good!!

Best pie in the world and also very good bread, so more than 5 stars for this. But "oh my god", what a shame with the crowds and ineffective way of handling. Every week we order bread etc. (online). You would expect it to be ready so that you would be helped quickly, but no, every week you first stand in line for at least fifteen minutes, after which you have to wait another 10 to 15 minutes. that your order is being collected and still needs to be cut. Couldn't that all have been prepared in advance?!?!?!?

Bakkerij Hermans is terecht een begrip in Maastricht. Elke zaterdag en zondag een rij voor de deur, die met plezier en aandacht vrij vlot wordt doorgewerkt. Het personeel is vriendelijk en denkt graag mee. Ik ga er graag brood, broodjes en het liefst nog iets zoets halen. Favorieten zijn de Deense koffiebroodjes en de linzenstukjes. Rond feestdagen breidt Hermans het assortiment altijd uit. Inmiddels weten mijn familie en vrienden op afstand ook goed wat bakkerij Hermans is, en kijken ze uit naar een bezoekje als ze in Maastricht zijn!

Heel vriendelijk en behulpzaam personeel en natuurlijk de lekkerste vlaaien. Ook kan je daar andere heerlijke lekkernijen en brood kopen

Heerlijke vlaai, en leuk dat er een plekje is gemaakt waar je het gebak kan eten met een kopje koffie!
