Bakkerij Windhouwer B.V. in Bijlmer Centrum (D,F,H)

Lovely restaurant with sweet pastries, hot and cold drinks, and ice cream. Friendly staff. Prices on the high side. The men's and women's restrooms weren't very well maintained. The latter could be better.

This is my second time here, and every time I've been made to feel uncomfortable. They don't seem to like the fact that I don't speak Dutch yet, so they won't look me in the eye or answer my questions. They just hand me a dirty bag full of holes. It was the same as last time. I've just moved to the Netherlands and am struggling to like my new life here, so I hope that people who behave like these women aren't the majority. It's a shame that such a discriminatory store has such good reviews.

I went here late on a Sunday evening few minutes before the store was about to close and bought an aardbei (strawberry) cake. And i must admit that was the best cake I have had in Amsterdam. It was fresh, soft and delicious. It was a pure coincidence that i found this store, but now they have become one of my favourites.

We order our cakes from Kaandorp Bakery. And every year, they create beautiful works of art. Everything is possible, they think along with you to find solutions—what sweethearts. Our compliments to Marcel and Anja, what fantastic pastry chefs.

It's a shame this bakery went bankrupt because it was the best. "Bread factory" was a forbidden word there, but in reality, it was. I was fortunate enough to work there for 10 years as a weekend driver and substitute driver, much to their and my satisfaction. It also helped me build my nest egg for 10 years, which came in very handy a few years later when the banking crisis hit in 2008 and my business practically ground to a halt. The bankruptcy of Bartels Bakery is deeply saddening to me.
