My favorite coffee spot in the world. Barista Linda, always kind, knows how I like my coffee and makes me feel so welcome. Always hard to leave…

A few days ago, I was debating whether to write a review because I don't like leaving bad ones. But, unfortunately, I'm disappointed. This was one of the good cafes in our area, where I used to go for coffee. In the spring, everything was delicious, especially the cappuccino. Unfortunately, things are different now. If there's an adult woman with a short haircut behind the counter, there's almost always a problem with the coffee—either the milk is just lukewarm, or the small glass isn't filled enough. The last time we ordered a small cappuccino, they made it in a large glass. When we pointed out it wasn't a cappuccino, she replied, "It's almost like a cappuccino." Also, the hours are always confusing: they say they're open until 3:00, but you show up at 2:00 and it's already closed. Or, conversely, they say one time but it's actually different. And the price—5 euros for a to-go cappuccino with regular milk—is a bit steep, especially compared to cafes in the city center (De Pijp, Jordaan), where it costs 4.30 euros and is much better. It used to be cozy and delicious here, but now it's just a shame that everything has gone downhill.

An Amsterdam hub, you can go to the gym, yoga, and have coffee. The cappuccino was disappointing; the milk was too thin, making the coffee milky. Latte art wasn't refined either. It's not the La Marzocco machine that makes the coffee good, but the attention and the slowness. The atmosphere is busy with a hairdresser, music, and the small space. Voices are very loud throughout the room. When you walk in, you're not greeted, no one comes to you, and you have to order at the bar. Poor service and hospitality.

Special atmosphere, great service.

Located on the first floor, this place offers a nice view and good coffee. I only tried the cold brew as they couldn't make filter at the time, but it was very good and I believe the filter won't disappoint either. The pain au chocolat was well made as well, definitely worth trying.

Coziest coffee spot. Delicious coffee, top-notch breakfast, and delicious cakes and pastries. Always friendly service and a wonderful atmosphere — highly recommended!!

I went here several times during a stay in Amsterdam and really appreciated the friendly and chill atmosphere, great coffee and cheese toasties. One day I tried another coffee place nearby (a chain ...) but found it completely bland and joyless by comparison so I learned my lesson and stuck to Barmhartig after that.

Lovely view from cafe but I bought a bag of whole beans to make espresso and they are clearly not fresh nor tasty. You’re better off going to other roasters, and there are plenty in the city.

Very cozy, but right next to a gym, so lots of noise. It also looked like they had a chair for cutting hair in the shop, which does not seem like a hygienic thing to have. Coffee was not good full of bobbles, they give you ketchup with the toastie to hide the funky taste of wild boar. The fruit youghurt bowl did only have bananas in it. By far the worst experience in Amsterdam on out trip.

Was absolutely destroyed by the beauty of the barista named Salomeah! Service and coffee was nice! Loved the view and the granola bowl was out of this world! Will come again soon!

Ik zag een bord buiten staan met koffie en Nice view dus besloot een kijkje te nemen. Het café is op de 2e verdieping te bereiken via een trap of met de lift. De entree was niet heel uitnodigend maar als je eenmaal boven bent en de deur open doet waan je je direct in een andere wereld! Veel groen en de geur van versgebakken cinnamon Buns en een prachtig uitzicht over ‘T IJ genoot ik van een heerlijke kop koffie en eigen gemaakte bananenbrood. Wat ben ik blij dat ik dat bord zag staan! Vriendelijk personeel en zelfs een leuke kapper die de ervaring deed verbazen. Super leuk!!! Sfeer een 10!

Super nice place with relaxed staff and fantastic coffee. Here they know how it should be done and you get a good product from a nice barista. Recommended!

Ik werd niet geholpen, ik ben gegaan. Bedienend personeel had alleen oog voor vrienden en vond kletsen over relaties belangrijker dan het helpen van klanten.

Super nice coffee shop with a delicious extensive breakfast. I had a Breakfast combo piglet with croissant with cheese, a boiled egg, fresh gravy, a bowl of yoghurt with granola and fruit and a coffee of your choice. The coffee is delicious! Nice staff! And a surprisingly beautiful view over the water. Highly recommended!

Small cafe situated next to AH. We went to grab a quick snack for our train and when we asked about the toasties, the staff was nice enough to tell us that he can do it but he wouldn't recommend it as it gets soggy and it's best to eat in. We got a banana cake and cinnamon bun to take out. €4 each. Banana cake wasn't the best. I'm not sure if this was by design or whether it's due to the way it's been baked, but you could clearly see the banana cake was separated into 2 layers. The bottom layer was more stodgy, whereas the top layer was more airy and bready. Nuts were mixed in with the banana cake. The cinnamon swirl wasn't the best we've had. It was only ok.

Pros: The best coffee in Amsterdam and tasty snacks (cinnamon bun and banana bread are recommended). Friendly staff, but not very inviting. Nice view, laidback atmosphere. Free parking garage (2 hours) and free on the street on Sundays. Only downsides: dogs allowed inside, smell and hair in your coffee is not nice. Yes, there is also a hairdresser who works and cleans up neatly, those hairs are wet and do not swirl in your coffee and do not smell like dog...

Nice location, but no food when I came on Sunday. Also, no laptop policy at the weekend apparently. Overall fail. Guy serving was cold and disinterested.

One of the most favourite coffee places in Amsterdam

Merciful is a beautiful location that unfortunately says it all. A nice small business with quite a few downsides. When you enter you are not greeted and looked at half-heartedly as if you are intruding on their lives. Treats you as if you should be grateful that you can order something. Even though it is very small, you have to order at the bar yourself. Lazy and unwelcoming. Ordered a sandwich for +- 8 euros. There is a nice sign on the table showing how sustainable and good the products that make up the sandwich are. The toast was limp, tasteless cheese and small. You really can't sell this for this price. Been here several times but this is really not possible.... It is almost rude to ask so much money for something that is not worth more than 2 euros. Long story short: unfriendly staff, bad food but a nice location!

We drank iced tea prepared on site, delicious. The place is unusual, there is even a hairdresser, it’s a really nice atmosphere. Small bonus for us, the French waitress with whom we were able to chat. To do if you pass by there.

Loved this spot! Excellent coffee and service with a beautiful view of the river. Did have a little trouble finding the place as it's upstairs rather than on the street, but not a big deal. Would 100% recommend.

Hands down the best coffee latte I've had in a while. Spectacular view over the bay. Humble and cheerful staff. I'm not sold on the hairdresser's corner: it's loud and distracting, and unhygienic.

Very cozy place with good coffee and amazing view over the water, tosti is not so big and good for that price. Minus star is for ridiculous rule of no laptops during the weekend even when almost all tables are free. Why not to keep designated tables rule. Inflexibility in following questionable rules is just a sign of a poor customer service as for me. Will have to find another regular coffee place in the neighborhood.

Beautifully located by the water (but no outside seating, the café is on the 1st floor), I have rarely been served such a carelessly prepared toastie. The coffee was delicious.

The cinnamon buns are so delicious. Also very nice that they have a Volkskrant and Parool.

Lovely cafe with nice view, can work with laptop during weekdays on designated tables. There only few tables that are allowed to open a laptop. I also noticed that they have hairdresser service at the corner of the cafe.

An eclectic place to have a good coffee. The coffee is smooth and the milk was creamy. The banana bread was delicious. The views of the river/canal are very beautiful. The staff is very friendly. It caught my attention that they can cut your hair in the same room where you have coffee... everything is very modern.

The view is beautiful. Unfortunately the coffee was disappointing. I had a cappuccino with oat milk and only tasted oat milk and no coffee at all. Very disappointing. The reviews were very promising. First and last time for me

Not allowed to use your laptop here! I came here for a meeting all the way from Rotterdam and then after ordering my coffee i find out that its not allowed to use laptops in almost all the tables here, except for one big shared table. On their website this isn't mentioned anywhere so it's really wrongly communicated. Will never come back here.

The view was very nice. The place has a good atmosphere. I had the vegan banana bread, which tasted good.

Some coffees have: ➝ a great coffee ➝ a great view ➝ friendly baristas ➝ nice crowds ➝ great vibes Barmhartig has it all. My only problem with it? I can’t prononce the name. I propose a vote: who’s in favor of calling it « Up »?!

I recommend the blueberry muffin, really lovely! Almost a secret cafe as it is hiding above a gym. Really nice high protein things to eat and the chef/barman is really friendly. Great toasties with some interesting and new flavour (who knew kimchee goes so well with cheese!).

I really like this place - location as well as the cakes and coffee are great. The only thing letting this place down is the toasties. Overpriced.... 8EUR for a very basic toastie (that is dressed up to be something more on the menu but what you really get is an average quality sandwich on thin ordinary bread) and not enough filling. I would really suggest making them cheaper or putting something else on the menu :). Also no laptops at weekends isn't great...I used my laptop for creative projects on weekends and of course it's nice to do that in a cafe environment. Before, it was possible to bring my laptop but apparently not anymore. Still, overall I like the place :).

Kwaliteit van de koffie varieert van matig tot zeer goed afhankelijk van wie er werkt. 25 cent rekenen voor een kartonnen bekertje, gekkenhuis. En als reactie op onderstaande; de sup wetgeving is bekend, staat alleen nergens dat je 25ct voor je paar eurocent inkoop-bekertje moet rekenen.

El ambiente es sumamente tranquilo, un café pequeño para leer un libro y tomarse un rico café viendo la bella vista del canal. El personal es súper amable, café de buena calidad, y te recomiendo que pruebes la banana cake☕️

Indeed amazing view, good coffee and friendly personnel, but the mix of a coffee bar and hairdresser doesn’t fit for me. The noise of the fan and the idea of hair in the air makes the whole experience less chill.

Tasty coffee and very interesting place. You can enjoy your coffee with a perfect latte art having a view over the river. Also, you can get a haircut with a view here, which makes this place quite authentic!

Music was way too loud, toilet door makes a loud bang every time someone goes in ot out the toilet. The service was grumpy, they didn't make any contact with the costumer upon arrival and leaving. The coffee wasa bit too sour to my likings and was a bit on the expensive side, 3 euros for a small black. (Nor do they accept cash) The only upside is the cool location.

If you need a good place to read a book, or work this is a place for you. Chill atmosphere, and enough plugs for laptops. Their banana bread is also great, and there are some other vegan/vegeteren options on the menu.

Barmhartig has to be one of the coziest places I have been to in the Netherlands ! Everyone was super friendly and welcoming, the cinnamon bun was amazing. I spent the day sitting at the window, working on my laptop and sipping capuchinos.

its amazing love the atmosphere how chill it is and the views. the only thing that i disliked was there was guy cutting hair in the place???? so weird and they were LOUD. he’s ruining the vibe of the place as people are trying to work on laptops and this guy is chatting like he’s in a salon , i feel like this is conflicting with the concept of the cafe :/

We had breakfast twice at the café. You get fresh stuff there: the juices were freshed and made to order. The pastries were still in the oven when we got there on the second day. The cinnamon huns were delicious and so was the banana bread. Great coffee too and very friendly staff. I wish I lived in Amsterdam so I could go there more often.

Ich wurde förmlich ignoriert als ich reinkam, bis ich fragte, ob man am Tresen bestellen soll. Ja, das soll man. Ich fühlte mich nicht willkommen. Avocadobrötli wie auf dem Bild gab es nicht. Nur gebackene Brötchen und Toasts aus dem Plastiksäckli. Die Aussicht ist jedoch toll und der Kaffee lecker.

The coffeeshop had great coffee with a great view and friendly service. Prices aren't bad either. Highly recommended if in the area.

Feinster Kaffee, selbstgebackener Bananenkuchen, zauberhaft würziges Avocadobrot: mit Radieschenscheiben gekrönt. Wohnzimmer Atmosphäre mit Blick über die Docklands, gechillte Musik, eine Oase am Ende des Piers: etwas versteckt im ersten Stock über der gelben Treppe.

Nous y sommes allés pour le petit déjeuner. Excellent, frais et avec une vue magnifique. Difficile à trouver, au dessus d’un supermarché au 1er étage. Salle de sport au même endroit.
