Had a truly great experience at De Luifel! I was there with a somewhat larger group and even though it was quite busy, we were served very politely and kindly. The staff listened carefully to our wishes and really took their time with us. And of course, the beers were very tasty too! Definitely recommended.

Lovely place to sit in the summer, nice terrace. Great selection of beers, also very nice with many options from Utrecht breweries. The staff is very friendly and happy to provide more info about the beers/drinks they have.

We ordered iced coffee and they served us warm coffee and blamed it on the dishwasher

If you don't want to be hospitable, don't open a restaurant. And if you don't want to generate revenue, don't start a business. After a lovely day of boating, we arrived at De Luifel today around 5:00 PM with a group of 12 people. It really wasn't busy at all at that moment, so we sat down to enjoy a drink. Subsequently, we were turned away because there were 12 of us. Apparently, at De Luifel, the magic limit of hospitality lies at exactly 10 people. Numbers 11 and 12 are apparently two guests too many. We even offered to simply split up across multiple tables, which was no problem for us at all, but that was a no-go too. They simply refused to serve us. I truly understand that you would rather not accept large groups during busy times. But there was hardly anyone there, we were only two people more than the ‘maximum,’ and even when we offered to split up, the answer was still no. At that point, my understanding pretty much ends. You certainly can't call it hospitable. In the end, we just went to the neighbors, where we were actually welcomed with hospitality and spent quite a bit of money on drinks. Apparently, De Luifel had no need for that revenue. For us, at least, never again. Even 1 star is too much...

Had ordered 4 half Leos and it took half an hour, then we got 9. Five stars.

When you place an order with the waiter and he can't hear you, and then repeats it in a louder tone, you just get told off for shouting. You should have heard it the first time. How polite is that service! Once and never again.

Friendly and efficient service. They know a lot about the beers. Highly recommended.

Is there a table available? Then a waiter comes over. The group is too large, you are not allowed to sit here. Splitting into 2 groups of 5 is not possible either. A maximum of 4 at a table even though there is space. Never experienced anything like it.

Always a pleasure to be here, actually our regular place where we meet friends and family for lunch and rinks while we are in Utrecht. Service attentive, we only miss the kipsate for lunch during our last visit a week ago. Thanks and we look forward to,be back in november.

The service is very slow; they turn me away when I ask them to order something, and meanwhile, they are drinking beer at the bar. I just left.

My friend and I wanted to have a nice drink on the terrace. After waiting a long time to order a drink, we asked the staff if we could order. We were told that they would come to us soon. However, they didn't come to us; instead, they were just sitting at the bar drinking beer and laughing with each other. Eventually, we left because it was taking too long to even be allowed to order a drink. We did not have a pleasant experience and we will not be coming back here.

Bizarrely bad place. Poor service with a few students who want to do everything by the book. We were assigned a table beforehand, only to be sent away because there were 11 of us instead of 10. This was after we had received our bread, which consisted only of a bit of dry bread with a small piece of butter and some tapenade. According to the students, we had to finish our bread and get out of there as quickly as possible. I find it strange that if you have already seated people and they have already ordered, you don't think for once to let that one person join you. When we split into two tables, it wasn't good either because "you are still a group." When I said we weren't going to pay for the rest (which hadn't been served yet), he still had the nerve to shove those fries in my face a minute later. When we were arguing with him, he also had the nerve to address me as "friend." A disgrace to the hospitality industry on the Neude, this place, although often several places here are of poor quality. I would definitely look for another place to avoid unfriendly people!

Disorganized chaos on the terrace and among the staff... you really shouldn't want to go to the toilet! That is truly hopeless! The number of guests inside and outside is excessive at every point for this establishment's capacity... and you suffer the consequences as a guest!

I got glass thrown at me; a whole tray fell past me, and there was also glass in my hair. The waiter who dropped it swore using the word 'f*ck' and only offered a quick, impersonal apology. I had to retrieve the glass myself... and furthermore, we received a rude response from the staff. The food, however, was tasty.

Everything about it wasn't great; we couldn't be served because there were a party of 10. The rest of the terrace was almost empty!!!

Rude staff. They act as if they don't see or hear you. When it is almost closing time, they give a "subtle" clap as they pass by while raising the chairs all around.

I visited Luivel last week, and unfortunately, it was a truly disappointing experience. Drinks spilled on one of my friends three times in one evening due to the crowds and poor organization. We received no compensation for that, which is bad enough in itself, but then we were also thrust into a cloth so we could clean it up ourselves. That was truly the icing on the cake. Additionally, we had to wait more than 30 minutes for our first drink, even though it didn't even seem extremely busy. Also, no ashtrays were provided while people were standing around smoking everywhere, causing everything to become a mess. All in all, we found it to be a very low-quality establishment with poor service and little attention to the guests. Unfortunately, not a place I would return to.

What a disappointment. Café de Luifel knows exactly how to completely derail an evening. From the moment you enter, it feels uninterested and disorganized. There is no form of hospitality whatsoever, no welcome, no explanation—you are left to figure it out yourself. The staff seems primarily focused on themselves and has absolutely no regard for the guest. Taking orders is rushed and inattentive, and if something goes wrong (which happens regularly), it is ignored rather than resolved. The food and drinks are mediocre at best, but the pricing suggests you can expect something special. That contrast only makes it more painful. Even simple things go wrong, making you wonder what the standard is here anyway. What really sticks is the lack of responsibility. No apologies, no solution, not a single moment where you get the feeling that they want to do better. It seems as if they consider it normal that the experience is substandard. There are plenty of places where you *can* spend your money and time. Café de Luifel is certainly not one of them.

I had ordered a pink bunker with crazy berries. However, it tasted a bit strange; it tasted like tomato. When I pointed this out, the waitress gave me a strange look. She went to see if she could arrange something, but had already said before that that it wasn't possible for it to taste like tomato. I can understand that, so I asked if it wasn't past its expiration date. To which she said nothing, gave me a strange look, and went to check. In the end, I sent it back and had to pay for a drink that was clearly past its expiration date and hadn't even been finished.

What a place! Bier lokaal de Luifel is the perfect spot to enjoy a good beer in the sun or on the warm and cozy terrace in front of the place. Staff is super friendly and know their stuff. Food is solid and affordable. They have an extensive selection of both local and special beers, always something available to your liking. If you dont know what to order their recommendations are always great. Definitely my favorite spot at the Neude and always have a pleasant time here. Highly recommend!

Amazing place with super friendly people, great drinks and great food. The staff is always helpful and welcoming, if you are not sure about your order they always give a recommendation based on your preferences and make sure that you get something you will enjoy. The food is delicious and at a good price, whether it’s snacks or full meals. The atmosphere is so cozy and comfortable, it’s truly a perfect place to grab a beer with your friends and have a nice evening. Definitely would recommend to anyone!

A really nice place to have a drink or a bite to eat. We came for a luifel burger and a carpaccio salad. Both ingredients were very fresh. The service was good, and the food arrived quickly. We arrived at 5 p.m. The food was truly delicious. We will definitely be back.

Disappointing experience. Walked in and asked for two aperols since they had a street sign for outside advertising hot aperols — the waiter brought iced aperol spritzes instead, and when we clarified the misunderstanding they refused to change it and charged us.

Sat on the terrace for 20 minutes without being helped, while you see three staff members chatting at the entrance... You're supposed to notice and help guests within 5 minutes, even if it's busy... I worked in the hospitality industry for 8 years myself, so I know how it works.

Always to my liking at the Luifel! Many different beers on the menu and the staff is fun to join in.

You arrive with a group of 15 people, there is a nice place with space and you think along to sit down and make space, you are flatly refused by a young lady who did not feel like it. Fortunately, elsewhere in the city our turnover was welcome.

I was here with a friend and ordered a carpaccio sandwich. I don't like truffle mayonnaise so I wanted to go without. The sandwich was very boring so I put some salt on it. After a few bites I had a very hard piece in my mouth. I took it out and to my surprise I saw a piece that looked a lot like glass. I immediately called the staff about this. They said no that's not glass that's plastic that had broken off the salt jar we've had this before. Then I thought throw away all the salt jars and buy new ones?! We only got the carpaccio sandwich for free which I had half eaten.

This afternoon we went out with a group of friends for a fun bachelorette party. We spontaneously decided to have a drink on this terrace, but were resolutely refused. The reason? “No bachelorette parties for women allowed.” To our surprise, at that same moment men did arrive on the terrace who were clearly also celebrating a bachelorette party – with all the attributes and all. This not only feels like unequal treatment, but also downright sexist. It is 2025, and such double standards are really outdated. Selecting customers based on gender is unacceptable. We will never come back here and will let others know. Hospitality should be hospitable – not discriminatory.

What a great place! Cozy atmosphere, an impressive beer menu with many beers, including a wide selection of beers from Utrecht (very tasty!), and friendly staff that always welcomes me (even when it's a bit busier). PS: The new Luifelbiertje is highly recommended, perfect NEIPA for the summer!!
