We were sent away because the staff didn't like our table, but we were still charged 60 euros before we were allowed to leave for drinks we didn't receive.

We come here regularly for drinks and snacks. Always friendly staff and a pleasant atmosphere.

Sat on the terrace for 20 minutes without being helped, while you see three staff members chatting at the entrance... You're supposed to notice and help guests within 5 minutes, even if it's busy... I worked in the hospitality industry for 8 years myself, so I know how it works.

The service was downright terrible, with disinterested waitresses and no attention to the guests. The food arrived late and without apologies. It's a shame, because the location has potential, but the staff makes the visit unpleasant.

We were kicked out of the restaurant simply because my friend was wearing a pink skirt and was mistaken for being part of a bachelorette party — which we were not. The staff made assumptions based on appearance and treated us unfairly without even asking for clarification.

What a bad service, food cold and I say something about it. Get sent away.

Always to my liking at the Luifel! Many different beers on the menu and the staff is fun to join in.

You arrive with a group of 15 people, there is a nice place with space and you think along to sit down and make space, you are flatly refused by a young lady who did not feel like it. Fortunately, elsewhere in the city our turnover was welcome.

I was here with a friend and ordered a carpaccio sandwich. I don't like truffle mayonnaise so I wanted to go without. The sandwich was very boring so I put some salt on it. After a few bites I had a very hard piece in my mouth. I took it out and to my surprise I saw a piece that looked a lot like glass. I immediately called the staff about this. They said no that's not glass that's plastic that had broken off the salt jar we've had this before. Then I thought throw away all the salt jars and buy new ones?! We only got the carpaccio sandwich for free which I had half eaten.

This afternoon we went out with a group of friends for a fun bachelorette party. We spontaneously decided to have a drink on this terrace, but were resolutely refused. The reason? “No bachelorette parties for women allowed.” To our surprise, at that same moment men did arrive on the terrace who were clearly also celebrating a bachelorette party – with all the attributes and all. This not only feels like unequal treatment, but also downright sexist. It is 2025, and such double standards are really outdated. Selecting customers based on gender is unacceptable. We will never come back here and will let others know. Hospitality should be hospitable – not discriminatory.

What a great place! Cozy atmosphere, an impressive beer menu with many beers, including a wide selection of beers from Utrecht (very tasty!), and friendly staff that always welcomes me (even when it's a bit busier). PS: The new Luifelbiertje is highly recommended, perfect NEIPA for the summer!!

15 mins to be served. 15 mins wait to pay. Moscow Mule served in cafeteria lemonade glass? IPA selection not bad. I guess it’s a beer place after all.

It is wonderful to stay at De Luifel. With 20 beers on tap, the staff is happy to help you find your perfect beer! And the sweet potato fries are definitely recommended!

Nice tent, casual atmosphere, young people and lots of fun. Music is less pleasant, mainly Dutch and too much Bløf.

Pleasant terrace on the busy Neude. We got beaten to death beers, but the second round was good after we made a comment about it.

This tent can do it purely based on: the favorable location and the large terrace will survive. They don't need service or quality to fill the terrace and they don't deliver that. Waitress barely looked at us while ordering or paying. It was because we didn't feel like walking any further on a sunny and busy Sunday afternoon, but keep going is my advice

If you sit here quietly for a bachelor party during the afternoon, you will immediately be sent away, "house rules", a bit lame.

We had a small drink here on the terrace. It seems that you have to order with a QR code, but payment must still be made. Could have been easier. Everything else according to your wishes!

This business is a complete scam. If you order a snack, it will be charged for two people. This is really not normal for this entrepreneur. You order a snack or a cheese board and pay the price per person.

Kwamen voor een lekker drankje op het terras. Het personeel is vriendelijk, maar we werden meerdere keren gevraagd ons ID te laten zien door meerdere mensen. Ook kwamen ze een bestelling opnemen terwijl we al hadden besteld. Een mix drankje kan je niet via de QR-code op de tafel bestellen.. raar. Als laatste waren alle twee onze glazen vies en plakkerig. Prima dat je goed betaald voor een cocktail, maar zorg dan op ze minst dat de glazen niet plakken alsof er limonade overeen is gegooid.

At a certain point the staff suddenly decides not to serve anything to our group, without any prior notice and immediately after paying a bill of 300 euros (part of the group left). We did not cause any nuisance. Reason: because the staff thought we had “had enough to drink”. I didn't know I was going to have a drink in communist China, where the government decides what and when I consume.

As a trans person, I was personally disadvantaged. I no longer received an order after a few hours on the terrace. Once they knew who I was, I got nothing. Personal attack.

We hebben heerlijk genoten van het eten en de verschillende biertjes. Genoeg heaters om ons warm re houden op het terras op deze regenachtige dag We zijn in de avond nog even terug gegaan.

I went there with couple of friends for drinks and bites in the evening. The weather was nice so they had the terrace open and it was fully crowded. We didn't reserve the place and decided to walk in. Luckily we got a table. However it was super busy and waiters were already occupied. There are QR codes on the table so you can order via them. The toilets are inside the bar and they were clean. They have limited vegan options so we ordered only sweet potato fries. May be they should work on adding more vegan stuff on the menu. However they do have some vegetarian options. Their drinks menu is big so they have variety of drinks to choose from. I would recommend this bar on a sunny day so that you can sit on the terrace and enjoy drinks.

Horrible service, they charged us for the same things twice. When we asked for our money back, they only gave us back half the amount they owed us. Very negative experience.

Bad.. We ordered at 7 o'clock. Some people had a main course and others had some snacks. The snacks arrived promptly, but the main courses took more than an hour. In between we asked 4 times what was going on. The staff also could not give any indication of how long it would take. In the meantime I asked for bread because of diabetes, but apparently it also takes 15 minutes to cut bread. In the end we received an apology and a free drink per person. Afterwards, when paying, there were also things on the receipt that were incorrect or not even ours. The food was also good. However, we will NEVER eat here again... this was one big miscom...

During the day and in the evening I like to sit under the awning. Good service, good prices and a pleasant terrace. Last night was the first time I was inside during the late evening hours. I was very shocked by how security was enforced. A guard spoke to someone (who may have done something unpleasant) in an aggressive tone and unconsciously elbowed me in the chest and almost in the face. He hurt me in this. A bystander calmly asked the guard if he could take this into account. This bystander was then aggressively removed from the business. An escalation that was unnecessary. I understand that security is necessary in the late evening hours, but I do not believe that security guards themselves should contribute to the lack of security in a business.

Hele slechte tent. Zeker 15min op het terras moeten zitten voordat we drinken aangeboden kregen terwijl er amper mensen zaten. Vervolgens 2x moeten vragen of we eten konden bestellen, de eerste keer was die het blijkbaar al vergeten. geen aardige bediening en die jongen luisterde totaal niet. Na zeker nog 30min wachten ook nog verkeerd eten gebracht wat we niet hadden besteld. En daarna weer kunnen wachten op het juiste eten… niet bepaald even lekker lunchen zo. Jongen van de bediening stond zelfs op het terras te roken waar mensen aan het eten waren. Erg ongepast. Geen aanrader.

Then we had to ask twice if we could order food, the first time they apparently forgot. not nice service and that boy didn't listen at all. After waiting at least another 30 minutes, we also received the wrong food that we had not ordered. And then having to wait again for the right food... not exactly a nice lunch. The waiter guy was even smoking on the terrace where people were eating. Very inappropriate. Not recommended.

They take serving water with wine very seriously here... ordered a bottle of wine, but there was little of the wine available, it tasted more like a spa. After 1 sip, the waiter indicated that the bottle that had already been opened before it arrived at our table was undrinkable, we were told that we were unlucky, this is how wine should taste. We were at a beer bar so we shouldn't expect too much from the wine. Tip: Only come here for a beer or water…

Unfortunately one of the most disrespectful places I've ever been. We just got home and I've never felt the urge to write a review before, but now I do. My friend unfortunately got sick and they treated her like she was a drunk who was probably sick from too much alcohol. We literally just entered the city and this was the first terrace we sat down at. The three of us just ordered the 2nd bottle of wine. I have worked in many catering establishments and it is clear that they are unable to tell when someone is drunk or sick. I told them that my girlfriend has had a sensitive stomach all her life, and it can flare up from time to time. There was no understanding of this, and even though we had just ordered our second bottle of wine and had barely touched it, we were asked to leave and STILL pay for the second bottle, which we could not take with us and had to leave behind. My girlfriend is thankfully feeling better now and has gone home after getting sick, but I will never forget how they treat people who can LITERALLY get sick, hence the review. I have always been a fan of De Luifel, it is a nice place with an excellent menu, but I recommend that you just sit on a terrace further away, where you will get the same thing but at least better service. -------------------------------- One of the most disrespectful places I have EVER been. Cozy no-nonsense pub with good food. Nice terrace and the music is not too loud inside so you can catch up with friends. However, parking in the city center of Utrecht is always a challenge.

Wonderful under the heaters on the terrace. Enjoy a well-deserved moment of rest. Thinking about Christmas Eve presents...

Heerlijk gezellig tentje met oog voor detail. Lekker eten en goede drankjes. Veel wijnen per glas en heerlijke (lokale) bieren. Het is voor ons ver reizen, maar anders zouden we zeker vaker komen.

Deze kroeg heeft zijn charme. De sfeer is warm en uitnodigend, perfect voor een relaxte avond. Het personeel is vriendelijk en attent, waardoor je je welkom voelt. De drankjes zijn redelijk geprijsd en er is een degelijke selectie. Een aanrader voor een gezellige avond met vrienden.
