We had an excellent dinner. Oysters were delicious and so was the beef tartare and the steak. The pistachio ice cream was a nice way to finish the meal. Highly recommend this place for a cosy dinner

Meddens has been a lovely spot in Hilversum for years. The location, atmosphere, and appearance still make it a pleasant place to settle down. And let's be honest: what you are served is generally just good. So, the quality of the food is certainly not the problem. However, it is noticeable that the quality of the overall experience has unfortunately declined somewhat in recent years. Orders regularly take quite a long time to arrive at the table. Serving isn't always handled professionally either: food is frequently served or cleared away from someone, whereas at a place like Meddens, you would expect a bit more attention to table service. And things sometimes go wrong with the wine as well. If you order a glass of wine of any quality, you fortunately get a nice large glass — which is lovely to drink from — but the amount of wine in it is sometimes very meager. It almost seems as if the person pouring thought: oh well, never mind… Added to that, the price-quality ratio is, in my opinion, somewhat under pressure. Prices have become steep, so you would expect the service and overall experience to clearly match that. It is a shame, because Meddens absolutely has the potential to once again be that wonderful, high-quality place it used to be. The food is good, the location is beautiful, and the atmosphere is pleasant. With a bit more attention to service, speed, and hospitality, Meddens could really take a step up again. A beautiful establishment in a nice spot, with good food, but there is still room for improvement in terms of service and value for money.

We had wanted a rosé and a platter of bar snacks… We would have liked that very much, too! The guests at the table behind us also found it embarrassing; ‘I totally understand if you leave, this is really not normal’. I really raised my hand 14 times, stood up to wave to the bartender… but we didn't manage to catch the attention of any of the wait staff. And if it had been busy… not at all! After a good fifteen minutes, we went to sit across the street. At Loetje. Order taken within 2 minutes. The rosé was on the table within 5 minutes and the bar snacks didn't take long to arrive either. Truly a missed opportunity, Meddens-Mensen.

Meddens is owned by a man who, as a hobby, beautifully restores old buildings in Hilversum and then simply turns them into restaurants. They aren't always my kind of concepts, but Meddens is spot on. A beautiful, bright establishment with plenty of fish, good meat, an exciting yet solid menu, and always pleasant staff. It isn't the cheapest place in Hilversum, but you really feel like a valued guest here. I had a three-course menu that was truly delicious: steak tartare, bavette with aji amarillo butter (OMG, that is yummy), and for dessert, a tasty Crème Catalana Brulee (no photo of that). My dining companion had a delicious vegetarian starter and pan-fried salmon as the main course. Only the Eton Mess for dessert was disappointing. Too sweet, with too much sweetness screaming for attention at the same time. I would do something about that, but otherwise, another lovely evening. You won't go wrong here; keep up the good work! 👍

What a wonderful experience at Meddens! From the moment we walked in, we felt welcome. The atmosphere is cozy, the food and drinks were delicious, and everything was taken care of down to the last detail. A special compliment to waitress Bridget. She is incredibly friendly, cheerful, and professional. She had an eye for detail, gave good recommendations, and ensured that we wanted for nothing. Thanks to her hospitality, our evening was truly extra special.

Worthless place. No clue about hospitality. The fryer is on, throwing in some snacks is no problem, but a portion of fries? They’re not in the mood for that. Not even if they know a few rounds of cocktails are going to be ordered. The staff member in question probably wanted to go home as soon as possible and doesn't care about extra revenue. Last time at MEDDENS for a large group of men.

The new menu is truly amazing. I went out for dinner with my grandma, my brother, my sister, and my aunt, and it was delicious. The new menu is highly recommended, especially the new 3-course menu; there is a variety of everything. Everyone at the table was satisfied, and the service was excellent too :) As far as I'm concerned, the best staff in Hilversum! Beautiful building and a very nice atmosphere!

Lovely sunny terrace, but mediocre service. Orders are taken verbally, and when serving, half of them are forgotten. When asked, it wasn't noted down. Pay quickly and get out of there; a missed opportunity.

I went for a get together at this place! I would it really nice and a very nice ambience.. Plenty of space is available and most of the dishes are under Euro 20.

Furthermore, I feel exploited because I was served a reused bottle of water and charged €7,50 for something that costs much less elsewhere. Nice but not special and that is mainly because of the food that is simply not tasty enough.

The chef’s starter of the day was salmon (€16), which was delicious. The catch of the day, a ling fish (€26), was only half as good.

First visit to this lovely restaurant. Stylish interior. It can be a bit chilly if you sit near the door, despite the airlock.

Beautiful multi-level restaurant in Hilversum with an outstanding interior — atmospheric, stylish and really well designed. The only slight inconvenience was that the menu was only in Dutch, but we managed to translate it on the phone and the waiter was extremely helpful. The music was a bit loud at times, but the food was excellent and the menu is well balanced: not overly complicated, yet varied enough for everyone to find something they like. Overall a great dining experience.

Cozy restaurant and had a nice lunch.

My experience here was thoroughly disappointing. The service was incredibly slow from the start; it took 45 minutes for a server to even come and take our order. After we finished our meal, the ordeal continued as we had to wait for an additional hour just to receive the bill and pay. The overall ambiance and service left a lot to be desired. I cannot in good conscience recommend this restaurant to anyone.

This cocktail bar offers something you won't find anywhere else: a combination of craft cocktails and a relaxed atmosphere. The bartenders really take the time to personalize your drink and are happy to explain the ingredients used. The lounge area is perfect for relaxing, but the outdoor area is also ideal for a summer evening. If you love refreshing flavors and unique drinks, this is the place for you!

I lovee this place, I always go there almost every weekend but the only thing they should work on is food, the food I got served it was too salty. Rather than that everything is amazing

Excellent service. They come by on their own initiative, without being annoying, and you're never left wanting. The atmosphere and decor are beautiful and well-maintained. The food is delicious. The bill is a bit pricey, though.

A good experience with friendly staff

Enjoyed delicious cocktails in the sunshine. We were hesitant at first because the small print stated that cocktails could only be ordered after 5 PM, but thankfully, that wasn't the case. We went for the 43 sour and the amaretto sour. The interior looks lovely too. We'll definitely be back in the evening.

A nice, strong cup of coffee. Nicely renovated (or perhaps even refurbished?), three floors of cozy and warm atmosphere. It's halfway along Kerkbrink, so you can see the "old town hall" where Sinterklaas used to wave to the incessantly sweet Hilversum children. Really. We didn't eat anything, but I'm sure it's good. The large container on the terrace with bottles of champagne on ice is encouraging.

The food was delicious—good, not great. The decor is beautiful, and the staff are friendly and attentive. One point of concern: the chairs on the patio are a bit uncomfortable. Kudos to the new guy on his first day in the hospitality industry, acting as if he'd been doing nothing else for years: friendly, fast, helpful, and attentive to detail.

Al een week hier in de buurt op vakantie. Dan fiets je voor een bezoek naar Beeld en Geluid door de stad. Dan kom je langs zulke mooie horecagelegenheden, waarvan je nog wel eens nader kennis wil maken. Zo ook vandaag. We kozen voor Meddens. Laat ik er kort over zijn: dit mag je bij een bezoek aan Hilversum niet overslaan. Wat is er dan zo goed? De kennis, kunde, gastvrijheid en oprechte vriendelijkheid van de medewerkers! We genoten van onze drankjes, wijn en bier, perfect gebakken brioche met ansjovisboter. Samen kozen we voor de, sinds vandaag op de kaart staande, Seafood Platter. Zeer mooi opgemaakte etagere met een keur aan schaal- en schelpdieren. Coquille met gemarineerde gember en wakame. Oesters, langoustines, mosselen, venusschelpen. Ook nog verschillende variaties van garnaal. Waarbij de grote garnalen wel te lang gekookt waren en daardoor moeilijk te pellen waren. Datz was eigenlijk het enige minpuntje. Afgesloten met een lekkere koffie. Bij het afrekenen ook onze complimenten gedeeld over de medewerkers. Dat werd beantwoordt met een glimlach van oor tot oor. Dat zegt genoeg!

Ik was samen met mijn vrouw in dorp en wilden even lunchen. Als rasechte Hilversummer had ik er nog nooit iets gegeten. Buiten op het terras bestelden we een Croque Meddens. Toen hij werd gebracht keken we elkaar al aan omdat het een flinke hap was. Beiden hebben we er net de helft van gegeten. Het was van alles teveel. Zelfs na een paar uur waren we nog misselijk. Het was een zompige hap verzopen in de bechamelsaus. Verder vielen ons de hoge prijzen op.

I had the goat cheese tartine, and while I was eating it, I started to dislike it. It was a lot of sweet goat cheese with a lot of sweet honey on top. I would have preferred it with a counterpart. Later, I realized that, according to the menu, it was supposed to have balsamic vinegar and beurre noisette. Unfortunately, it wasn't, but I think it would have tasted better.

Great lunch, though pricey! And sweeping the patio occasionally prevents fewer flies, wasps, and bees.

The restaurant might look a bit ordinary from the outside, but besides the usual dishes, they also have some truly special items on the menu. Very tasty, with great combinations and a special fish dish (catch of the day). Portions are generous. We could eat everything and were definitely full. The service was really good. The staff were friendly, polite, and attentive. This restaurant is definitely worth a visit!

Have always been a big fan of this place. I like to come here for a glass of wine, because they have very good wines. However, I was a bit disappointed recently. We ordered our favorite, the salade riche and a croque with lobster. They clearly economized on the salade riche. It is certainly not cheap and you get half the fish compared to some time ago. The croque was also very small in terms of portion size. The fact that we had a sandwich after lunch says enough I think. Especially because we spent 100+ for a lunch + drink with the 4 of us, we came home a bit disappointed this time. The quality is good and the service excellent, but the shrinkflation was clearly noticeable. If we come back soon, we hope to have another good experience.

We went for the last Friday of the month oysters special.. it was a steal and great value! Staff were very attentive and friendly- great service and the mains that we ordered were also done to perfection!

Been there once, 6 years ago and registered once for vissa or something a long time ago? Music was too loud, food was okay, service also okay. For some reason I get a newsletter that I never asked for in the mail because of this. Quite annoying. That's why the low rating.

On Google they say they close at 0.00. In reality it was almost an hour before the refused service.

On King's Day I wanted to have lunch somewhere with my daughter and we ended up at Meddens. Even though it was busy, the atmosphere was pleasant. My daughter chose a salmon sandwich, but I call it sauce, but she didn't like it. I reported it and she got a new sandwich. It was super sweet. I had calculated it at first. Today I went with the receipt, something went wrong. I still got the money that had been paid back. I will definitely come back. Thank you to all employees👍

You will love to come back here!!! Every time we have a cycling weekend we look for a suitable restaurant. This took a little more effort, especially on King's Day. After some searching we chose Restaurant Meddens. I feel like everything is right there...!!!! Upon entering, we were immediately greeted spontaneously by almost all employees. We had a private dinner on the top floor (private dining room) arranged really well. we were a group of 10 people. Please note: you do have to climb stairs. on the ground floor there are enough tables for wheelchair users. very nice big bar in the middle. super decorated, really fantastic. the staff are super friendly. the food at Meddens is really tasty!!!! beautifully served. tastes really good. menu with plenty of choice, both vegetarian, fish, meat, etc. extensive drinks menu with mocktails (without alcohol) super nicely served so great, really nice!!! once again we had a great time, attentive staff who made it extra fun. is really in the center, on the square. close to parking garage.

We had a very nice meal here this weekend and the staff was very friendly. One point for improvement: do not stand in the shop/behind the bar with cleaning items. That is not professional and not really hygienic. For the rest, again, the cooking is good; keep it that way!

Fantastich door de jaren heen. Nu met zeven m/v eerst helemaal bovenin vergaderd en vervolgens gegeten beneden. Met de grandeur van een klassiek warenhuis, het belle epoque interieur en de altijd warme en persoonlijke bediening is Meddens altijd een goede keuze.

I chose the Meddens seafood salad with 3 types of shrimp, tuna and scallop. When it was delivered I didn't think it smelled nice. The tuna was briefly cooked and raw on the inside as it should be, but stone cold, you could taste and feel that it had been in the refrigerator/display, which was unpleasant, and it did not taste or smell fresh. Ditto the scallop. I thought it was too raw, but that's a matter of taste. The shrimp the same, also not very fresh. Was just going to eat it until I came across a really bad tasting one. I let the staff know, but I received no friendly problem-solving response. The restaurant itself has a nice interior, but unfortunately the bar was full of glass sex and used cleaning roll, which did not improve the atmosphere.

Thus is a very cozy place to have a drink. We had a breakfast there, but the food offer is more a "borrel hapjes" one. Tasty but not so healthy.

Onvakkundige en ongeinteresseerde bediening. Wijnen te weinig en kwalitatief te matig voor een te hoge prijs. Partner bestelde de tournedos, werd afgezien van wat nouvelle cuisine geneuzel geserveerd zonder verdere bijgerechten. Zelf had ik de 'kabeljauw fish and chips'. Bedroevend slecht. Geperste vis (koolvis?) die in een kruimelend jasje uit elkaar viel. Smakeloos. Met een desert van 4 bonbons van matige kwaliteit voor 11 Euro sloten wij deze teleurstellende ervaring af.

Recently discovered Meddens in the center, great tent! Excellent choice of cocktails and wines. Even though the menu mainly consists of fish dishes, there is something for everyone to choose from. I opted for the Burrata which tasted delicious. Very nice service during dinner by friendly staff. The service is fast, friendly and appropriate. The team is having a great time on the work floor and this is clearly reflected in the service. Meddens is definitely worth a try, we will be back!

Christmas Eve-2024-6 p.m. We were received very friendly with the backdrop of Christmas lounge music including DJ... the atmosphere was already cozy at that time, partly due to the beautiful Christmas decorations... the dishes on the menu looked great. attractive..in addition to this menu, there were 2 additional recommendations: Haddock file and Half or whole Lobster..in addition to the tasty drinks, we enjoyed a very delicious Christmas dinner..it gave us the feeling of .... Absolutely love this place every time we visit. This Christmas was no exception - the menu was fantastic. We were a large group (10 people aged 2-73 years), and they accommodated us in the private dining room on the top floor. The starters and mains were wonderful, the wine was delicious, and the service always with a smile. There was something on the menu to satisfy everyone. Thank you! ❤️

Het restaurant was ons al bekend en wisten wat we konden verwachten. Op 2e kerstdag samen met mijn vriendin het kerstmenu genomen. We hebben genoten van het uitstekende menu en de originaliteit daarvan. Mede door de uitstekende bediening van Toine, die ons een geweldige avond heeft bezorgt door zijn enorme gedrevenheid en passie voor zijn werk. En uiteraard ook voor zijn collega's, achter de bar, en in de keuken. Lieve mensen jullie hebben ons een geweldige kerstavond bezorgt, heel veel dank daarvoor.
