Holyland in Centrum

I lived near there 30 years ago and often went there because it had the best shawarma I'd ever had. I went back a while ago, and the new owner still has the same passion for quality and service. In short, it's still a top-notch shawarma place!

Went back to our favorite place for shawarma after a long time. Got three platters yesterday. It was inedible!! I wouldn't even feed it to my dog. As long as this new owner is here, we won't be going back. I probably won't last long either.

New owner, rude, the shawarma is disgusting and cold, and the sauces are also absolutely awful. Paid €45 for two large sandwiches (€30) and one small one (€9.50). So, you have to pay a lot extra for extra pita bread and sauce. Absolutely ridiculous. Go to Snackline on Gijsbrecht instead!

Delicious food and very good service, until our mistake that we ordered the children's menu.

We went here for dinner on King's Day with two couples and an adult daughter. The bar isn't exactly set high then. When we arrived, one other table was occupied, and everything else was free, with no "reserved" sign anywhere. We all ordered a soft drink, and within a few minutes, it was on the table, and someone came to take our order. When we said we weren't sure yet, we were told to order quickly. I initially thought I'd misheard and that the waiter had meant we could take our time. Anyway, we ordered our food. Meanwhile, three more people had sat down at one other table. Then three more people came in, and they were told in a very unpleasant way that there was no room, even though there were plenty of free tables. That's when I realized that we hadn't had a verbal altercation, but that the waiter had simply been rude. We expressed our disapproval of the communication, especially towards the other guests, and then the owner scolded us. We paid, didn't tip, and we'll never come back. The people at the next table left before they even got their food. Absolutely not recommended. Previously, there was a different owner, and it was completely different.

Chicken special ordered. Received a moldy pita. And it would include peppers, mushrooms and onion. There is only chicken in the container and it is tasteless and dry. Very bad.

Did not eat on site but ordered via home delivery. Half of the dish I ordered was not included and the rest was dry and well done. The only thing that was tasty were the fries. I will never order from here again.

The food is delicious, prepared with love and attention. SpareRibs are from the Grill, the meat is real meat, it is really tasty. Got to taste a piece of steak, it was very tasty, I will order it next time. While you're eating, someone comes by and genuinely wants to know how you like it. We used to come to Holyland about 25 years ago. Never went again after he was taken over. Now Holyland is back with its new owner and how. The food tastes super fresh and really good!!! You really get value for your money. And they also have a super nice delivery person. We say see you next time.

Aan de bar een broodje shoarma besteld. Dat mocht maar minimaal een grote shoarma. Nou daar had ik geen zin in. Dit privilege is alleen als je laat bezorgen. Dus zijn we weggegaan naar Snackline op de Gijsbrecht. Sowieso een advies, zeker na deze ervaring. Men werd ook beetje pissig op ons omdat we gewoon weer weg gingen.

My recent visit to Holyland Hilversum under the new owner was a huge disappointment. What used to be a nice place to eat has now unfortunately become a restaurant that I will never return to. It already started when ordering. It is no longer possible to order a small shawarma. The only option now is to order a large shawarma, the annoyed owner said (even though it is still on the menu). When I tried to discuss this, I was shut down by the owner, who came across as someone with a lot of stress and problems. His attitude was downright rude and far from professional. This bad treatment completely ruined my dining experience. It is clear that customer friendliness is no longer of paramount importance here. After reading other reviews, it seems I'm not the only one who has had this negative experience. It's a shame to see how a restaurant that once had a good reputation has now deteriorated under new management. I won't be coming back here again and recommend others do the same. What a bad experience.

Since Holyland has a new owner, the quality of the food, but especially the service, has deteriorated considerably. I have never been approached like this, by I assume the owner, while I just wanted to place an order. That's not how you approach customers. In my opinion, you should treat customers with some degree of respect, after all, they are paying you. The food is also not what it used to be, but that's besides the point.

Very bad service! The gentleman was extremely rude on the phone, because we had to pay €22.30 for a large shawarma (in a small bowl) and a can of coke. The gentleman persisted and hung up the phone. Shawarma was also tasteless. Never again for us.

Just came to HolyLand I want to place my order but the employee says he has no vision, I look at Google to see what is still open... I walk for almost 20 minutes and then I hear No, sorry, I have no vision to do what I want to do. We used to come to Holyland every day for a delicious shawarma sandwich in the evening. Went there again last night for a late snack and a nice meal at the bar. (It won't get to that point..) I wasn't that hungry so I had a small shawarma sandwich. CAN NOT! SMALL FOR PICKUP ONLY. YOU MUST ORDER A LARGE SANDWICH HERE (Angry) But wasn't it really on the menu in front of me on the bar? I was planning to have it delivered to Holyland's address so that it could be done. But did not meet the order minimum... The penny actually dropped shortly afterwards. New owner. Vroeger kwamen we dagelijks bij Holyland voor een lekker broodje shoarma s'avonds. Gisteravond weer eens erheen gegaan voor een late snack om gezellig aan de bar te eten. (zover gaat het niet komen..) Ik had niet zoveel honger dus nam o.a. een klein broodje shoarma. KAN NIET! KLEIN ALLEEN VOOR AFHAAL. HIER MOET JE GROOT BROODJE BESTELLEN (Boos) Maar het stond toch echt in de menukaart voor me op de bar? Ik was even van plan om het dan maar te laten bezorgen op het adres van Holyland zodat het wel kon. Maar kwam niet aan het bestel minimum... Het kwartje viel eigenlijk kort daarna. Nieuwe eigenaar. (zie screenshot) Holyland zal vermoedelijk niet zolang meer zijn. Want dit houden ze nooit vol. Jammer, vroeger altijd leuke tent..

We had a delicious meal. Shawarma and steak. Baklava, never had such delicious baklava before. Staff was friendly, the place was neat and nicely laid out plates. We will definitely come here again.

Wanted to order a large and small shawarma, but the owner said this was not possible and I was only allowed to order two large ones. That small shawarma was for takeaway and not for eating in the shop. The dear gentleman became furious. After 16 years of loyal service to Holyland, I will never come here again. I used to always come to Holyland (about 15 years ago) when the food was fantastic!! Now the food is inedible. The spareribs have little on the bone, tasteless, extremely hard and chewy. I called them politely to inform them that we had not eaten any of the spareribs because they were inedible and there was hardly any meat on them. The service is just like the food! The 'owner' said that he doesn't eat the spare ribs himself. What a good advertisement!! I paid almost 30 euros and had to throw the dish in the trash. Bizarre place that Holyland... We had already eaten quite a bit, but after going out we decided to get a shawarma sandwich at Holyland. (9.50 pcs. not very cheap but fine at this hour) Yes, that was NOT allowed. Because small shawarma sandwiches can only be ordered if you have them delivered. (This is not made up. He really said it... Same when you go to fill up, but you are obliged to fill up...) Even though it was in the menu, it didn't matter. So our visit was no longer than 1 minute and that is what I will give as appreciation. In the past, a cozy (evening) eatery for shawarma and the like. Now a food factory that sells everything. (Shawarma, Gyros, Chicken Bones, Spare Ribs, Steak, etc.)

Delicious food, new dish gyros chicken pita.

Today for the second time I had this delicious, special Mediterranean pita gyros with chicken and lamb, vegetables, lettuce and tzatziki sauce for only € 7.50. It was enjoyable. Highly recommended!

Nieuwe eigenaar maar is er niet beter op geworden, bestel je shoarma zitten er stukjes worst doorheen. Waren met 7 personen worden er 2 bakjes knoflooksaus op tafel gezet vraag je om extra moet er bijbetaald worden terwijl een broodje shoarma al behoorlijk aan de prijs is voor alleen vlees met een broodje verder niets erbij. Niet voor herhaling vatbaar wel jammer we kwamen hier altijd graag

Eliat and Roxy dishes are indescribable. I also prefer to eat my own feces than the spareribs. Vandaag 2x shoarma afgehaald. Was verrast dat er een nieuwe eigenaar was. Het vlees van de shoarma was grof gesneden, ransig van smaak en vol met vet en zeen. Ook was het niet warm genoeg. Jammer dat de vorige eigenaar gestopt is. Bij hem was alles altijd goed.

One of the tastiest chicken dish I had in Netherlands is right here. I could always ask for customising of the chicken shoarma based on my taste and I have always got what I expected. My personal fav Chicken Shorma, grill chicken legs and lamb kabab.

I order a small shawarma and spare ribs. I receive a spare rib with chicken (separate from a small shawarma) within the agreed time. When I called, the gentleman said that I had received the chicken. But I'm not asking for that! And then you eat the spare rib you received... as dry as it can be. You pay 25 euros for spare ribs and you get a small piece of chicken. The fries that came with it were cold and the chicken was not tender with a spicy taste. Again, I didn't ask for that, but the gentleman indicated that they were promoting their chicken and that I received that. At the very least, set the chicken aside with the message that it was included for free, along with the ordered spare rib portion. Treated very poorly and not edible. So you order spare ribs and you get a small rib with chicken. Not alright!

Me and a friend had a disappointing experience. Upon entering we found a sticky table and menu, along with inexperienced staff. When we asked for a glass the staff seemed hesitant and didn't actually seem to want to provide a glass. Remarkably, the spareribs were already sold out at 6:00 PM on a Saturday evening. We both decided to order a large shawarma sandwich, although large was an exaggeration considering the small portion. The shawarma was tough and consisted of strange chunks. As if that wasn't enough, it took 45 minutes to an hour before we got our food. All in all a very disappointing experience. We used to like coming here, but since the new owner it just isn't what it used to be. The quality and service have clearly deteriorated

I order from them since 2019 and always thought the food was fantastic but today. I’m not sure what happened but today everything tasted different. The shoarma was strange, the kebab, usually my favorite, I couldn’t eat. For a whole meal they only sent one pita bread. So, let me know if you fix whatever it’s happening, otherwise I’ll look for another restaurant.

It’s a very good restaurant and we really enjoyed the food! I really recommend. we didn’t have to wait long and the service is great. There’s a nice atmosphere and we really enjoyed everything.

Fast friendly delivery person. Fries well cooked, onion sauce was tasty. Spare ribs contained real rubbish fat and were therefore not trimmed. Flesh had not been removed, fleece was really very thick, cooked too long and grilled too short. Little marinade and little flavor.

ik heb rechtstreeks op hun eigen website de bestelling geplaatst. wowwwww!!!, ik zou willen dat ik dit restaurant veel eerder had ondekt ... service werkelijk top ik hadkalfs shoarma besteld en k werd netjes gebeld dat dit product er helaas niet was maar kreeg een ruime keuze hiervoor in de plaats. bezorgingtijd:TOP, om 17:15 besteld een uur later zat ik aan tafel. en wat een lekker eten!!!, shoarma heerlijk mals en geen vetstukken, kip smakelijk gekruid. met friet, pitta en salade erbij was het een geweldige maaltijd...kan er nog een 2de keer van eten. echt een aanrader, nu nog een keer daar eten om de sfeer te kunnen beoordelen. maar nu al 1 van mijn favorieten restaurants.

2 shoarma schotels besteld, heerlijk gegeten en grote porties. Alles erop en eraan, patat, veel vlees, salade, verschillende sausjes. Bezorging was snel! Top!

Ik heb nog nooit zo genoten van een shaslick als hier, deze vakman verdient wel 10 sterren.

Restaurant zelf is misschien niet heel sjiek maar wel praktisch en netjes. De eigenaar is een bijzonder vriendelijke man...in het restaurant was het niet zo druk maar afhalen en bezorgen wel...hij blijft zo kalm, alles strak onder controle...neemt zijn tijd voor kwaliteit. We eten er niet zo vaak maar de keren dat we er komen is het gewoon goed.

Ter plaatse eten, afhalen of bezorgen.....de service is altijd top en het eten super! Verrassende bonus: als er iets nieuws op het menu staat, nemen ze je meestal mee op reis middels een sample :) Onze toppers: Afghaanse menu en de kippenbout van grill. Heerlijk.

Geweldig grill restaurant met wellicht beste shoarma in Nederland maar ook uitmuntende kebabs, bbq kip en andere vlees gerechten. Vlees is van superieure kwaliteit, service en snelheid zijn geweldig....een parel in Hilversum!
