The pastries here are exceptional—easily the best I’ve eaten all year! Had the chocolate danish, ham and cheese croissant, and a toastie alongside a coffee, and every single item was incredibly fresh and delicious. The only thing to keep in mind is that indoor seating is quite limited, so it can be a bit challenging if you're hoping to sit down for a quiet, peaceful morning meal. However, if you're looking for top-tier baked goods to grab and go (or if you manage to grab a spot), it is absolutely worth visiting.

I ordered the Croque and a coffee. If you can, skip this place; it wasn't anything special. It's not bad, but for the price, I'd prefer a nicer place where I could sit and enjoy it. The service was very good.

A huge variety of breakfast options, pastries, and sandwiches. They also have coffee, which you can enjoy there at the counters, or take away.

Lovely baked goods! Beware of flies sometimes landing on pastries. Their sandwiches were just ok but everything else was marvelous.

Simon Meijssen, once a household name in the South, but unfortunately, this establishment also seems to be sinking to supermarket levels. We came specifically for some floor rolls, but they turned out to be sold out. So we bought six egg cakes for €4.50. Once home, we discovered that the egg cakes were moldy. Naturally, we called the store immediately to report this. The response? “It’s hot today.” As if hot weather is an excuse not to check products before selling them. Moreover, there was no expiration date on the packaging. We were allowed to come back the next day. The staff then gave us floor rolls and offset the price of those against the cost of the moldy egg cakes. To our surprise, we even had to pay extra. Unfortunately, there was no apology for selling a moldy product — which, moreover, can make you quite sick. And as if that wasn't enough: after one bite of the floor rolls, it turned out that they were anything but fresh. Out of sheer annoyance, we eventually just fed them to the ducks. Simon Meijssen, this used to be a place you walked into with confidence. As far as we are concerned, you have lost that confidence. Bye Simon.

Delicious bakery, delicious sandwiches, and very good service

Genuinely the best croissant I’ve ever had and the pizza was also fantastic. All the homemade goods were beautifully presented and the staff were incredibly friendly. Definitely worth a visit especially when by the Van Gogh museum! 10/10

My experience at Simon Meijssen on Van Baerlestraat in Amsterdam was utterly disappointing and, frankly, a complete waste of money. Right as we arrived at the location, we were met with a terrible first impression: directly by the front door, there was a significant amount of garbage and litter lying around on the street, which immediately set a poor tone. Stepping inside didn't make things any better. The staff looked completely uninterested, immediately gave off the vibe that you were an inconvenience, and the service was downright rude. You can tell in every aspect that the staff or management simply do not care anymore. The products are marketed as budget options, but in reality, you still pay hefty, almost super expensive prices for abysmal quality. The items we bought did not taste fresh at all; the food had literally zero flavor and felt stale. The coffee was so poorly brewed that it was entirely undrinkable. In the end, out of sheer frustration, we threw everything straight into the trash. Save yourself a lot of trouble and skip this place altogether; you really do not want to spend your money here.

Superb ham and cheese croissant

What a wonderful little spot. From fresh bread(they can slice for you), cookies, croissants, tarts, sausage bread, and coffee and sandwiches in the back. They have it all. The bakers here really know what they’re doing but what really makes this place special are also the kind people working there. I also really appreciated how calm the space inside is, especially after a long trip. Highly recommend if you’re in the neighborhood.

Went three times on a four-day trip. The staff at this bakery are so cheerful and polite; they helped us pick out pastries from the many different options. We loved the sandwiches and the cookies especially. The interior is beautiful. A great spot for starting off your day in Amsterdam! :D

The younger women serving me was very rude!!!! How can a shop survive like this? The pastries were good but the customer service is unacceptable…. Avoid this place😒

Delicious pastries! No real seating and not much patience by the staff. But, the quality of the pastries keeps it at a 5 star.

Came over before heading out for the day. Being first time I visited the place I am looking around to see what to get. The lady ce by and ask what I want and told me they are very busy….????? Besides my family, there is only one more customer. If not for the highly recommended ham croissant, that will be a 1 star for sure

A bakery serving bread and a variety of different pastries and sweets. Service felt a bit standoffish but was efficient.

I came to get a sandwich and got the wrong one. When I said it wasn't the right one, the bald man came from behind to yell that I had to pay an extra €55. When I asked what it was for, I said it was the price difference between the two sandwiches. It turns out it's 55 cents. The whole yelling wasn't necessary for 55 cents, but oh well.

I was on the line for awhile and the lady was not receiving my order or receiving other person'a order even though we had eye contact. It was definately unpleasant experience and I needed to walk out of the store.

I bought my daughter's birthday cake; the cake was beautiful, we liked it. They don't accept cash and weren't very friendly, but other than that, we were satisfied.

I went in to buy a filled cookie and speculaas. I wanted to pay with ten euros, but the guy said that wasn't possible here. I simply said I found it strange, as it's a standard payment method. Then a female employee intervened and shouted, "We don't do that here." I reiterated my suspicions but started using my debit card. The woman told me, "Next time, find a bakery where you can pay, and don't come back here again." I asked her why she was so grumpy. That was the end of the world, and she shouted even more, "I'm absolutely, absolutely never going back there. It's a terrible atmosphere."

I'd seen online that people recommended this bakery for their croque monsieur and pain au chocolate. It's about a 5 minute walk from the Van Gogh museum, so after our visit there, we headed to Simon Meijssen for lunch. This place is phenomenal! The croque monsieur was soooooo cheesy and the bread was soft and delicious. I also got a ham and cheese croissant which was delicious. My son got one of the sandwich rolls with ham, cheese, egg and salad and then we shared a giant pain au Choc with a croissant. Everything was really reasonably priced (for Amsterdam!) and I'd recommend heading here if you're in that area!

It's a great place for breakfast. After exploring the museum, I also enjoyed Savoie. The coffee was excellent. The croissants for breakfast were delicious. The vegetable bread I had with my jasmine was also delicious.

Raspberry muffin was pretty basic (I was told it has raspberry filling but it didnt, maybe staff is misinformed) but the mango cheesecake was super yummy.

Great stop for quick breakfast and coffee before hitting the museums. I had a quiche, croc monsieur, a lemon tart and coffee and everything was good, ~€20 total, no tables only about 6 seats against the wall.

Found by chance, but with a display case like this, how can you not stop? Excellent quality, super crunchy and large. Money well spent, I highly recommend it, especially the desserts. Top!!

Bad service. Sandwiches are tasteless

Good place to have breakfast in Amsterdam. I found the service slow because there was only one person serving, there are no tables, just a counter, and it was quite crowded. I give it a 4 for the taste of the meal, which was indeed very good. They only accept cards, no cash. Would I go back? No! Further down the street on the corner there's a market with good options and better prices. But it's worth the experience.

Cakes were fab, coffees were KEICH. Ozzy hated his capu and flung it roon a bin.

When I arrived, the employee was engaged in a lively conversation with a colleague. That was perfectly fine, of course. But this continued while he took and placed my order. Not exactly good customer service. And then the price. Wow. €1.05 for a currant bun is doable, I guess. But a cheese croissant for €3.75 is absolutely ridiculous. Combined with the lack of customer service, this is a big thumbs down for me.

This was my first time visiting this place. I tried the warm cheese and onion pizza and really enjoyed it.

Limited variety of lunch options. Portions are very small, and the value for money is mediocre. The pizzas aren't particularly good, nothing special. Service isn't the fastest, but the staff is friendly enough. The place is small with very little seating.

Great bakery. Only gripe is how long it took to be served. There ins't really a queue. Its impossible to tell if people are waiting to place their order or if they're waiting for their food. Not much space to sit and eat either. Plus they're super stingy with napkins. Aside from all that, the baked items themselves are delicious. Probably not the best I've ever had but definitely better than most bakeries I've been to in the US. Fantastic location.

As expected, the bread in Europe is delicious. They make a ham and cheese croissant, and if you drink it with coffee, it's better than the hotel breakfast buffet. The store is pretty and highly recommended. Try a variety of breads.

Let's say that the place speaks for itself, the food is sensational and the atmosphere is beautiful, however it is a very local establishment and the staff doesn't make a point of communicating with you or understanding you very well, but it was worth it and I highly recommend it.

Horrible trato al cliente. De hecho asqueroso. En todas las panaderías el empleado me agarra para que me coman panadería con las manos desnudas o peor aún en guantes que no se quitan ni siquiera al lavar platos y agarrar todo alrededor. ¡Asqueroso! ¡En todos los países en vías de desarrollo la gente usa herramientas para agarrar una panadería! ¡Aquí es asqueroso y considerado normal! Zuidas, la señora me miró cuando le pedí que se cambiara los guantes después de lavar las bandejas grandes. ¡Wtf!

Good food, but don't think too much about ordering your food, the woman keeps staring at you and asking what you want... she's very grumpy and impatient. I gave up on buying everything I wanted and I don't recommend it.

Underwhelming taste and service

I entered the store at 5:00 PM. And I wanted 2 croissants warmed up. But the lady behind the cash register said that that was not possible because the oven was already off, even though I could clearly see the green light and the screen on.

Bakery with absurdly expensive prices. 3.65 euros for a cheese croissant! It doesn't make sense. The service is mediocre, smiling is apparently not in their policy. I'll never come back.

This afternoon I bought 2 brown rolls and 4 soft rolls were really old. I threw the rolls away and the rolls were very dry and that for my expensive money.

A super rude and racist woman working there ruined my day. She was fine with everyone else but me and my boyfriend since we walked in. Rolling her eyes, and told us off when we asked if they have one particular bread “if you open your eyes you’ll see okay?“ and tell me not to put my hair down when eating there.

You have a lot of choice from bread to patisserie . The almond croissant is good , the Citroen cake is too sweet , and the baguette is fine but it should be a bit more crunchy

Such a wonderful bakery and such a kind owner! — I'm vegetarian so I was hoping the Croque Monsieur was veggie friendly, unfortunately it wasn't 😭 but the owner immediately started suggesting alternatives that would be similar and I really appreciated that! I ended up getting a cheese tomato and lettuce baguette which was wonderful before heading to the Van Gogh Museum. 10/10 recommended, getting early breakfast here is a vibe! Not to mention the beautiful golden deco 🥐

Cheese and ham croissant to die for!

Like any proper bakery, I was foaming at the mouth just walking by, and as soon as I had entered I felt the sin of gluttony descend upon me, sharpening my teeth into prongs to better eat all the cakes. The croque monsieur will haunt me as my newest sleep paralysis demon, fearful only through the thought that I shall never eat it again. May you be guided here for breakfast by the same lucky fortune that drove me to need to get a nearby tramline. If for some reason you don't need a nearby tram, find a reason to go here regardless.

It's a really pretty local with lots of baked goods. It's a little pricier than other places with similar stock. The place is a bit cramped and the workers seemed really stressed. Also don't forget anything when you order, not even to ask for a fork to eat with, or they'll demand that you stand in line again to get that fork.

Very tasty sandwiches and cakes. Service behind the counter is really bad. I asked if they could refill my water bottle after I had already bought something and I got "we sell bottles if you want water" in response. In the context of customer friendliness and sustainability, a big thumbs down.
