Terrible service. Unfriendly staff. I definitely wouldn't eat here.

We had a delicious meal tonight! The cuisine clearly has an Italian influence. Delicious!

We wanted to stop at this restaurant. Our first impression was positive: the atmosphere seemed inviting. However, after we sat down, the staff abruptly separated our table and rather impersonally asked us what we would like to drink. While the drinks arrived quickly, that was the extent of the service. We were unable to place an order for food. The waiter – middle-aged and bald – served the other tables much more courteously, while we were simply ignored. After finishing our already paid-for drinks, we finally left. As visitors from out of town, we definitely did not feel welcome. Unfortunately, the waiter's behavior made this impression all too clear.

A lovely place for lunch or dinner. We recently had a lovely dinner with a larger group. The menu is varied and includes some lovely, surprising dishes.

Super cozy atmosphere and friendly staff. We were served quickly despite the crowd. The Italian chef had made a delicious risotto!

Fish, some meat, vegetarian, pasta, and a snack platter—that's what you come here for. Everything is a bit off the beaten track, but also not special for the sake of being special. I had the hamburger, and it was exactly as it should be. Not a factory burger, but an honest one. They recommended a very good wine. Sharing a dish was no problem either. Definitely try it.

Nice place to sit. We had a very good coffee and a very good chocolate. Unfortunately, we waited forever for our order to be taken and forever for payment. What a pity...

Bestelde Caesar salade. Kreeg beetje sla, 4 halve eieren, 4 anjovis, veel croutons. De rest ontbrak. Ik vroeg waar de kip was. De barman zei: Het was een vegetarische versie. Ik zei dat ik me voor 15€ misleid voelde. Had ik beter moeten lezen op de kaart. Echter, op de kaart stond geen vega teken bij dit gerecht. Mijn man had bouillabaise: uit een pot met 1 stuk droge vis. Ook 15€. Slechte tent, slechte behandeling.

A cozy little spot, a bit on the expensive side, but then again, it's right in the city center. The food was delicious, although the portions we chose were small. The tiramisu is truly outstanding! Definitely recommended. One small tip: the cocktail was maybe 4 sips, at least 85% ice cream, quite expensive for the price, but very tasty. The staff was very friendly and welcoming. Some minor improvements, but overall a nice place.

Very high bill for an average meal and a long wait.

Five-star food, six-star service. Delicious dishes and exquisite desserts. The veal tournedos are highly recommended. The location is also perfect. We'll be back.

Delicious food and a super friendly boy serving!

It was a pleasant setting, but the burger wasn't good. The waitress, after two requests, didn't understand that we wanted to eat as well and seemed very unsure. She didn't understand what a steak was done to perfection, which was very unprofessional. Afterward, we did get a substantial portion of fries, for about five people (there were two of us). I asked for my steak rare and got it well done. Honestly, it was quite expensive for what we actually got. The waitress only walks around the terrace once every half hour, then immediately gets back on the phone behind the bar.

Wie doch die Besuche ändern können! Wir waren an einem Abend im Café Cliché und haben diesen Abend sehr genossen. Tolles Essen, aufmerksamer Service - alles hat gepasst. Dann sind wir voller Vorfreude wieder in dieses Restaurant gegangen. Neue Karte, unsere Lieblingsessen waren alle verschwunden. Stattdessen 08/15-Menus, dazu noch schlampiger, unaufmerksamer Service. Für den ersten Besuch hätten wir 5 Sterne gegeben, für den zweiten lediglich zwei Sterne

We stopped here sporadically, very briefly. Great service, dog-friendly, food (fish) and drinks were excellent, a bit more expensive but perfectly fine for the quality.

Long wait for order of 2 Duvels. 1 glass broken, other very warm. Ask for new glass and rinse other... apparently not possible. So Heineken glasses to pour Duvel in.

We were 2 people in this restaurant on King's Day. First on the terrace and then had dinner inside. Although it was busy, the service was friendly and prompt. The food was very good!

Had a great lunch, but the price was reasonable. I expected more from the service in particular for the price you pay here. Not really friendly or attentive.

We have been at this place several times yet for drinks. First time we were having a diner before coming back home. We had a great diner. The food was top and ingredients of high quality, well prepared and served. the price is reasonable and the offering is large enough to satisfy all and any possible constraints. However, the service has been poor and especially with one server getting very impolite and agressive at the payment of the bill because I did not understand where to position my card for a no contact payment. I am not dutch speaking but I do understand Netherlands. I am perhaps not a technology geek either but I am a customer and deserve respect. Will never go there again !

Consommations en terrasse. Serveuse accueillante et souriante. Service rapide malgré la fréquentation. Etablissement situé proche de l'hôtel de ville. Heureusement que nous étions avec des amis hollandais sinon la discussion aurait été difficile.

We zijn gisteren langs geweest voor een lunch. Eten kwam vrij snel, terwijl ik gerust nog even kon genieten van mijn aperitief. Verder niks te melden, vriendelijk personeel. Kortom: Fijne bediening en goeie lunch.

Omdat ze op een aantrekkelijke locatie zitten, zit het waarschijnlijk altijd vol. Hierdoor is de instelling van het personeel dramatisch. Overal lege glazen en een jong jochie die het totaal niet ziet. Bediening dus slecht!!

Een slechte ervaring gehad na het bestellen van een gemberthee. De thee kwam met grote stukken gember, wat na lange tijd nog geen gembersmaak afgeeft. Gevraagd of ik gember in dunne/ kleine stukjes kon krijgen. Toe werd er door de ober gezegd: dat had je dan wel eerder kunnen zeggen.. Ik wist uiteraard niet tevoren hoe mijn gemberthee eruit zou zien. Het glas werd ontevreden weer op tafel gezet. De thee was overigens ook lauw, ook die van mijn tafelgenoot. Slechte en onvriendelijke ervaring!

Here is one of the best located terraces of Middelburg. Nice atmosphere, cool service. You can go here very well for something to drink and or to eat.

Very good time for our Valentine's Day. Nice decor. Good cocktails. Good wines. The tournedos were wonderful and the vegetables very well cooked. A bit of a long service, but at least we had time to enjoy our cocktails, friendly waiters.

First menu from the new Italian chef: original, creative and exceptionally well-executed European classics. We ate for: Green asparagus with poached egg, dried/seasoned ricotta Caprese with pesto, roasted heirloom tomato and buffalo mozzarella then for our main courses: A nice portion of juicy sea bass, crispy skin, with a broccoli cream and ginger/fish stock sauce, pulled from the same sea bass. We also tried the classic sole a la meunière: also perfectly cooked, served in a sauce that is much fresher than I am used to. Fantastic! In addition, we ate a fragrant, saffron-colored portion of risotto with parsley pesto, finished with mozzarella and fresh greenery. We were so enthusiastic about everything that we went for the truffle crème brûlée with black pepper/truffle cream and the white chocolate mousse with physalis compote. Beforehand we drank 2 delicious cocktails, with matching beautiful wines in between. The service was attentive, friendly and very helpful regarding allergies. Highly recommended!

Goeie muziek, vriendelijke medewerkers, zaten er prima maar het eten was heel erg slecht. Taco’s waren gewoon smerig en de ribeye was lekker door de dressing maar was niet meer dan een hoopje plakjes broodbeleg.

We drank two latte machiatos, excellent taste and smooth service. Very cozy sitting with a heat blower under a tent and furnishings full of plants. In general, the menu was a bit on the pricey side.

Heerlijk gegeten. Voldoende keus, verrassend bereid en mooie porties. Gezellige sfeer, goede bediening en fijne muziek op de achtergrond. Prijs-kwaliteit top!

We hadden onlangs als lunch de Taco’s met groene kool en de Rosé gebraden Kalfsribeye besteld en beide waren bedroevend klaargemaakt en de Taco’s gewoon vies zodat deze persoonlijk retour naar de kok gingen en klaarblijkelijk was dit niet de eerste! Bij een zakelijke lunch zou je voor schut staan en het bedienend personeel wordt door de kok zo in verlegenheid gebracht! Echt de eerste en laatste keer

Great tasty sandwich! Our favorite in a beautiful spot in the center.

I booked a table for 24 people for my birthday lunch. 1 person could not come last minute due to a funeral. When we arrived, we informed the waitress that we were with 23 instead of 24 people and she said it was not a problem. When it was time to pay, I was charged for 24 people since I was told that this is the amount of people I had originally booked for. Unfortunately, although we paid for 24 people, we were only given food for 23. Management has clarified I will not be issued a refund. The food was nice but the inflexibility has tainted the experience. I would have expected a bit of empathy and understanding given the circumstances and the good revenue we brought the restaurant.

For years we have been regularly coming to Zeeland for a week to get a breath of fresh air. We used to often eat at De Vriendschap. Not anymore later, because the dishes on the menu no longer appealed to us. This Café has now become Cliché with a different menu. Tried again tonight. Very nice. Delicious food. An address where we will definitely return more often from now on.

. Nothing wrong with quality, but: * several main courses are too small portions, but..., at hefty prices! * pay extra for fries * starters and desserts: very pricey * drinks: very pricey. Most poignant example: the lacquered ribs. No less than €26 for a few pieces of meat in a crappy brown dish, without anything added!! You have to have the courage to ask for that! So: lower your prices and/or increase the portions of several main courses. Conclusion: not worth repeating. Shame.

Unfortunately not recommended with children! We wanted to eat there with 8 people. Since our youngest family member hadn't finished his churros from the stand across the street, we were told that this wasn't possible since they also had cakes for sale. Then we left again. Too bad!

It's always great to be surprised by the creativity in the kitchen. But then those super nice professionals in the service, golden combination and worth more than five stars.

We had delicious steaks, perfectly cooked and delicious, but unfortunately they were no longer warm when they arrived at the table. But it was busy, so we still ate them. Friendly and patient service, also knew everything about gluten-free. There are gluten-free fries! No gluten-free mayo, but gluten-free truffle sauce for the meat. The vegetables were also very tasty. It was very loud due to a group of men and a smaller group that we were in the middle of unfortunately. That was very annoying. The music was also still loud. Otherwise a very positive experience and we will definitely come back!

Pour le service, le personnel est bien. Nous avons testé la bouillabaisse pensant que nous aurions un plat. Nous avons eu un bol de soupe de poissons (21€) accompagné de 2 morceaux de pain et un peu de rouille. Le goût était moyen, décevant !

A wonderful dinner with the whole family and there's nothing wrong with bailout. Simply great 👍🏼 Very friendly service and great advice on the food. Especially great things for children, instead of the usual chicken nuggets with French fries or pancakes, for example, when eating fish there was real vegetables and just a small French fry. Otherwise, the dishes were very, very tasty and, just like the children's, they were just thought differently. Wonderful boneless ribs or great tuna fillet slices. The ambience was very pleasant and remained that way as it filled up later. For guests with children, the important note is that there is unfortunately no play area, as is usually the case in the Netherlands, but we always had a few things with us anyway. Of course there were children's chairs and changing tables in the toilet.

Hello, yesterday I was in the beautiful city of Middelburg. It was a beautiful day and all the street cafes were very busy. We had a lovely meal in Café Cliche and drank espresso, latte and coffee. The staff were very friendly and attentive. It's also very cozy inside and it's nice that you can look into the kitchen. I would go there again. Best regards Frank Koop

I had the worst cheese and ham sandwich ever here. Soft white bread with tasteless cooked ham, thin slices of cheese and three fried eggs on top. The sandwich was then garnished with wilted rocket. To be fair, drinks and food were served quickly, which was okay. However, there is still a lot of room for improvement when it comes to eating!

Nettes Café im Zentrum von Middelburg. Das Essen war geschmacklich gut und der Service sehr freundlich. Einzig die Kale Tacos waren etwas arg hart, da würde etwas blanchieren evtl. helfen. Auf der Terrasse sitz man sehr schön aber auch drinnen ist es sehr heimelig und schön. Preise sind nicht ganz billig aber für Middelburg ok.

Delicious food, what you got was sufficient for a fair price. Lots of choice in beer and wine types, but also in different types of side dishes, main courses and desserts. You can sit on the terrace and the staff is very friendly. Worth repeating.

Kom hier nu al een tijdje en ben elke weer bevestigd in mijn overtuiging dat Middelburg één etablissement moet hebben wat net iets boven de toeristische middelmaat uitsteekt. Dat is Café Cliché, met de goede inrichting, de studenten met horeca gevoel en het top management van Mirjam...vrouw van de wereld. Kleine, maar klasse, kaart en excellent service. 'Place to be' in Middelburg!

Installed on the terrace of 4 no one came to serve us. I go inside and on the stairs an employee signals me to step back to give her passage as if I were a dog. Awful . To ABSOLUTELY avoid

What a fantastic meal we had last Saturday in our 'own village', at restaurant Cliché! "A creative variety of flavors" may indeed be such an overused and therefore worn expression; When all the flavors on the plate, each course flow together so beautifully and are made with delicious ingredients, I want to use the cliché: 'an unforgettable evening', partly thanks to the black brigade.

Nice terrace among many other terraces in the pleasant center of Middelburg. The drinks tower that you can order with a variety of snacks is fun and tasty. The vegetarian bitterballen are also good. Furthermore, the Pornstar Martini also tasted delicious. In short, when the weather is nice it is a nice place to be.

Even de teleurstelling verduidelijken. Een uitsmijter bestaande uit 2 sneden smakeloos wit brood, 2 spiegeleieren en enkele snippers spek voor 14,5€ !!! Dat is een food-cost van nog geen 2€. Dit lijkt mij een toeristenval. Jammer

Looking for a "local" dining experience and I found it. Cafe' Cliche' delivered. From the attentive staff to the excellent cuisine I enjoyed it all. The waiting staff were helpful to us english speaking Aussie duffers but helped with full menu descriptions which added to the night. Enjoyed a Entree of pork belly and main of Spring chicken with side of white asparagus. Well done Cafe' Cliche'.

In 2023 waren we verrast door de originele kaart en vooral zeer lekker eten. Ze hebben de kaart wat klassieker in woorden gemaakt, maar het blijft een verrassend lekkere menu. We raden zeker de wisselmenu aan. We hadden als voorgerecht een klassieke tartaar maar begeleid met een basilicum dressing. Een sublieme combinatie.
