Café "De Eland" in Jordaan

I’ve been a regular visitor here for over 20 years. It’s a proper no frills traditional bruine kroegen. The staff are ridiculously efficient. Go in when it’s busy and they’ll have 1 member of staff on - back in the UK they’d have 3, often gazing at their mobiles. I’ve given zero stars for food because they don’t sell any - pretty sure they don’t. Check out the etching on the glass. There’s an interesting story behind it.

A nice brown pub with good staff

One of the best places in the city to grab a pint and watch the world go by. Always amazing service, order at the bar and sit outside. Please go, places like this need your support or else they will disappear. A true classic in Amsterdam.

Fast and friendly service meant I didn't have to wait long for my order. The Heineken was pleasantly cold, and the Pepsi Zero was perfectly chilled – just right for a relaxing break. The prices are absolutely reasonable and in line with what's on offer. The option to sit outside and enjoy the atmosphere in a relaxed setting is especially nice. Overall, a pleasant visit with good service and fair prices. I'd gladly come again!

A cozy cafe/pub located away from the hustle and bustle, right on the water/canals. Nice outdoor seating area. Snacks on offer are okay. Prices are reasonable for Amsterdam.

Very delicious Heineken, so different from anywhere else in the world.

I was looking for a calm, slightly tucked-away café to spend a couple of hours writing before heading to Sloterdijk - and Café De Eland turned out to be exactly that. The atmosphere is pleasantly dim and a bit on the “obscure” side (in a good way) - soft lighting, a candle at the table, and a general sense that you can just sit and stay for a while without being rushed. Perfect if you want to read, write, reflect or just slow down a little. I ended up staying about 2.5 hours with a green tea (only €3.10, which honestly feels rare these days) and it all just worked. Simple, unpretentious, comfortable. The woman behind the bar was also genuinely kind and relaxed - not overly attentive, just naturally welcoming, which fits the place very well. A really nice, quiet spot - and a perfect last stop before heading out into the rain and back to Berlin.

I just had the best night of my life here! After this experience I really feel like I found out what life is about! Afke is a great bartender and really made our night feel special🍻👍🏻 Will definitely recommend 10/10.

Café De Eland, located on Prinsengracht, one of Amsterdam's most beautiful canals, is in a truly fantastic spot. Its central location and canal views make it ideal for a break during a walk. There are boutique shops and plenty of beautiful spots for photos nearby. Its location, away from the city crowds but still close to everything, is a huge advantage. I stopped by around five in the evening to unwind after a long day; we had a few drinks and it was a very quiet bar. Despite its location in a very busy area, it's worth noting.

One of the oldest bars in Amsterdam. The atmosphere is simply incredible, echoing the entire city, as if you've returned to its days, with its barely restored but well-maintained wooden walls, and candlesticks on the tables that keep you warm in the colder months while you sip a NUKUN, one of the best beers I've ever tasted. I hope this place continues to be like this for a long time. While we were sipping a few beers in the middle of the lounge, a group of old friends (among them) arrived, each in their own time, and drew everything they saw around the bar. We're lucky to experience something like this. Thank you.

Our friends fly in from the U.S. and we come from Italy and this is the place we meet once a year. Every time we meet great visitors from around the world while having a few beers. We just drink here so I can't comment on the food because I just don't know.. from what I have seen from others it looks to be standard pub food? Staff is great.. Location is fantastic! I will recommend this every time you want to sit and watch the world go by with a cold beer in hand and enjoying friendly people.

Funny cafe with a terrace in the heart of Amsterdam

Old typical bar. Food is not prepared in the bar but delivered. But pretty quick. There are authentic Dutch bitterballen (also vegan). Good beer selection. Sitting outside with a beautiful view felt good. Service could be friendlier and more attentive ;)

It’s been a while since I had such a good service. Coming from the hospitality industry makes it really hard to find a place where standards are set high and people are looked after as they deserve. Amsterdam lacks good service all around but “De Eland” has it all. Beer is served cold and in the best possible way. For the kind of bar it is… it represents the local culture in a way any locals and specially tourists will have nothing to complaint about. Definitely recommend it wether you just want to sit have a coffee and see life passing by or want to have a good time with your friends and enjoy the night near one of the best areas of the city! Ps: The female bartender over the weekends is a star! She doesn’t like pictures taken btw… for people’s privacy sake 😮‍💨🙏🏽👌🏾

TERRIBLE place, I went with my boyfriend and my father-in-law, we sat at the bar, the old bald “bartender” who was serving acted as if we did not exist for about 20 minutes and served several locals who arrived after us, then there was a Honduran to whom he treated a little badly just because he asked for a beer in English and since that was the only thing he knew how to say, the man got upset because he didn't say please, to which the Honduran replied that only that he knew how to say that he should excuse him, then he spoke to us heavy and when we told him to charge us he got upset and told us that he was working that we should be patient, after that he started throwing the glasses and even broke one, when he served us the beers he practically threw them away, it was a very bad experience.

The whole Amsterdam is so friendly and welcoming but the bartender here is so rude and racist. He didn’t respond to any of my questions and refused to serve the drink.

The bald bartender is the rudest servant I've ever seen! He made fun of my face, didn't respond to my thanks and served the cola by spilling it everywhere after putting the ice in with his bare hands!! And after that, he took my card from my hand for the contactless payment!

A very interesting and unique establishment! Let me tell you right away that there is no food there. If you want to eat, it is advisable to choose another place. There is the opportunity to order delivery where you can choose from croquettes, fried rolls or meatballs (something very much in the spirit of the Netherlands). The establishment mainly has beer and wine :) but the atmosphere itself is specific and interesting. Gorgeous place by the canal. You can sit outside with a glass and enjoy the view.

The place is nice. Normal prices for Amsterdam. The bartender is a jerk, bad-tempered and likes to serve beer but hates making coffee. If you ask for some cream, he throws it at you. That’s the place.

1 of my favorite pubs. Friendly staff, nice customers and a great atmosphere. Chill terrace where there is always something to see. (Always funny people who don't give priority and then curse each other out. 😂) There are young and old, which makes for a nice mix in terms of audience.

Horrible experience. The guy behind the bar was very unpleasant, to say the least just rude from the beginning, probably due to i am not dutch speaker, even though he knows english at least at primary level. But the worst was when my 3rd order (exactly the same as two previous ones) was charged with different but also too high as well amount of money. When i tried to explain whole situation i have been treated like trash. Do not recommend this place especially for foreigners.

Great atmosphere. Cannot fault the vibes, the candlelit tables, good music, and nice location by the river. Be wary of the bald barman (owner?) he is a bit scary. God forbid if you're a bit indecisive about your drink he'll tut and sigh in front of you! Lol

Terrible experience tonight here. I am a regular happy customer coming every week having a chat with staff and every one. This evening I was asked by the bartender to “leave now”. Acting racist as I was not a Dutch speaker. First ever time in Amsterdam. I feel so sad.

I highly recommend this place. The staff is not friendly at all and when I asked for a pineapple juice, the waiter made a face as if I had asked him for something strange. But the most disconcerting thing was when he emptied the ashtray (we were sitting outdoors) throwing the contents directly onto the street, as if it were a landfill. I've never seen anything like it.

This is the real Amsterdam frequented by locals and one place where as long as you are not too loud you too can fit in. Walking around Amsterdam can get tiring and eventually all of the streets, shops and canals can start to blur. Here is a beautiful pub where you can relax and smile again. There is table service. It’s great for drinks and polite conversation. You can sit outside or in.

Stumbled upon this lovely brown cafe/ bar on the corner of Princengracht and Elangsgraacht in the Jordaan area of the city. Close to tram 5. Good atmosphere and very fresh draft beers. Good atmosphere.

Super leuk bruin café. Met uitzicht op de (borst) beelden van bekende Amsterdamse artiesten zoals Manke Nelis en tante Leen. We komen zeker nog eens terug als we in Amsterdam zijn.

Found this bar whilst meandering our way home to the hotel. It was so cosy / warm (real candles an all near to curtains shock horror!) that we decided to stay longer than envisaged having three lovely draft beers - Brouwerijtij. Best bar of the trip.
