Unfortunately, there is discrimination at this café. People are refused entry based on how they look.

Been here past 10 years as tourists. Food is lovely. Staff are very welcoming and the drinks are very nice🍻

Lovely, friendly bar in the beautiful town square. We've been coming here for 27 years, Christmas and other times. Food is good, great atmosphere. Dog friendly. 100% recommend.

Beautiful cafe with a great terrace on the Market Square and amazing service. The interior is super relaxed. Had a lovely afternoon that calls for a repeat.

We had a very unpleasant experience at Café De Engel. The staff was unfriendly, disrespectful, and completely unwelcoming. In particular, the bald waiter with glasses behaved very rudely towards us. The terrace was set up in such a way that the passageway was largely blocked. When we tried to walk past the tables, we were addressed in a rude manner. With an irritated expression, we were told that we should just walk around the back. As tourists visiting Delft for the first time, you cannot expect us to be aware of such rules devised by the café itself. Moreover, I doubt whether the Municipality of Delft approves of a hospitality establishment obstructing public passage in this way. We felt absolutely unwelcome and were shocked by the way we were treated. This is not a good advertisement for a city like Delft, which receives many international visitors every year. I will file an official complaint regarding this with the Municipality of Delft. I hope that the municipality seriously investigates this situation and takes appropriate measures, so that other visitors are not treated in the same unfriendly manner.

What a great atmosphere! Pleasant service and a fantastic interior, nice and comfortable in an atmospheric setting!

Its quite a locals style bar considering it's in the main square. But that's what I like about it. We had soup of the day, chicken and corn, and bitterballen. Both perfectly good and homely. Nice and staff. Beer was good but we went for the jenever. There is a great selection on the menu but if you ask they bring you something special. Very nice.

We, a group of 5, sit down. The waiter comes over. Us: "Could we have one or two additional menus?" Waiter: rolls eyes "there's another one over there." hints at another table. Pauses. Walks over, grabs the menu and throws it onto our table. Needless to say: we left, as we didn't want to inconvenience the staff any further. /s

During the city scavenger hunt for a bachelor party, we were refused entry. We only wanted to have one drink. A group of 8 people was turned away. The staff is very unfriendly. Fortunately, we were greeted and served very kindly at the neighbors, La PizzaVerde. Cafe de Engel could learn a thing or two from that… Cafe de Engel is not recommended

Nice terrace with a view of the Market Square. Extensive beer selection; we are beer connoisseurs. And a delicious, extensive lunch platter.

Was a frequent customer, until they told us tonight that "you can't keep ordering tap water" even though we had ordered many drinks. I was honestly taken aback because I was a returning customer and they were always nice with the water to beer balance, but today (30-31 Jan 2026) I felt like they do not care anymore and just want to treat everyone like a balance sheet. More of a pub. The platter of sausage and cheese advertised outside was not available at 10 a.m. Toasts took a very long time. Not recommended for breakfast.

Old-fashioned conviviality in Café De Engel

Café de angel, seventh heaven for some, downright hell for others. Last week I drank some IPA's here with some comrades. Near our table stood an angel on a pedestal who apparently found the conversation about many womanizers in Delft so interesting that she decided to drop out. The fall of this angel symbolized the transformation of the atmosphere within the angel. Staff and guests came at full speed to say that this was not the intention, while that sweet angel himself had chosen to intervene in the (very interesting) conversation. After this incident we were no longer wanted within the angel. When we (poor students) also paid without leaving a tip, we had enough. The swearing flowed freely and the atmosphere dropped to a record level, truly animalistic ('Vo). Once outside, the regulars were not done provoking, and even left-wing women joined in (yak). Long story short, the beer was good, the regulars terrible, but the angel was a great conversationalist.

Had a drink yesterday, but we had to order it at the bar because the lady who was actually supposed to take the order was just sitting there doing nothing. In terms of atmosphere it is really crap and the staff is also crap. The tap in the toilet does not work, which is also very poor, no, I will never come here again!

“Café de angel” you could better call it “Café de devil”. Not even worth a star. What unfriendly staff. Bald 'man' was shouting at the waitress who was just doing her job properly. He walked around with a bright red face as if he was no longer completely in the world. Girl also seemed intimidated by him and quickly did as he asked. Not healthy. We left here because of his behavior and reported this. Then he shouted at us too. Very strange situation. Tents next to it are much nicer, the food will probably be better and the drinks are the same everywhere. Also don't apply for a job, this is really not a good place!!

Bad atmosphere, unfriendly waitress, turned me away because she was drinking beer and I was drinking spa red. Impossible to find closure due to its antisocial attitude, very inhospitable attitude. Then left very dissatisfied.

One of Delfts’s oldest, And unfortunate dying cafés. Very traditional Dutch Cafe’. Beautiful setting traditional furniture and central location. Great selection of Holland’s and Belgium bears. Must go for Delft visitors.

Altijd gezellig! Super personeel, goede bediening. Ze hebben lekkere broodjes, soep, e.d.

Ik was hier met 2 fietsmaten op een woensdagochtend, alles dicht maar gelukkig dankzij het bord buiten koffie to go, bij De Engel gestopt. Zeer vriendelijk ontvangst en heerlijke koffie en tosti. Promt kwamen ook meer gasten(waarschijnlijk door onze aanwezigheid). De buitenverwarming werd nog aangezet. Een top gastheer, zeker een café om aan te raden waar je je direct thuis voelt.

Een zeer gezellig cafe gelegen op de markt van Delft. Zeer vriendelijk personeel 👍 .
