Café De Kroeg in Binnenstad-Zuid

DO NOT GO HERE! Ridiculous place. I went there wearing a Christmas sweater and Santa hat, but I wasn't allowed to keep my Santa hat on. A friend of mine also wore a cap, which wasn't allowed. So, if you're looking for a fun night out, look elsewhere in Leiden; don't go here.

Nice for the weekend but avoid this place otherwise

One of the best places to go out in Leiden! The bar staff is always friendly and welcoming, and the drinks are affordable. The security is always willing to help and makes me feel comfortable and safe. Definitely recommended if you're looking for a night of dancing or a casual drink with friends.🎉

The selection of drinks is really good. You even get free drinks during happy hour. Absolutely fantastic.

Great atmosphere, terrible service. My friend got kicked out of this bar because the staff misunderstood my order. I ordered a few drinks, and the bartender brought me something else. I told her the order was wrong, she walked away, and we weren't helped again. So we ended up going downstairs to the other bar, where the same bartender immediately went to a bouncer who kicked us out...

Kicked out of the tent for no reason by incredibly aggressive staff.

AVOID ! Very rude staff , especially the so called security . The management of this bar is obviously too incompetent or indifferent to train and explain to their bouncer that his job is not to go around acting tough and assault customers without any valid reason . That’s what happened to me - this idiot wannabe tough guy bouncer came out of nowhere and tackled me from the side unexpectedly as I was walking back towards the table where my daughter and her friend were sitting . They were in absolute shock as to what they just witnessed , as was I - was shoved out of the door without explanation. Pure cowardice and perhaps xenophobia? Reading some of the other reviews this doesn’t seem to be an isolated incident . It’s a shame that this was my first day visiting Netherlands - this bar gives the Dutch , who otherwise very friendly people, a terrible image as to how to treat visitors. No reason to waste your money here .

We went with a group of coworkers here at night and we had a terrible experience. Bouncers are incredibly rude, and once we entered, one of us (who was fully japanese) was told to take off our caps. He did not understand what they said so he kept it on. Then moments later a lady working there started yelling at us that she warned him 5 times and that we need to get out and we got kicked out. The strange thing was that another person in our group who was european looking was also wearing a cap but was not told anything. Racism? Power trip? Not sure but definitely a bad experience

Bouncer was incredibly rude. My father was visiting the country for the first time. He was getting a drink at the bar, came back to the table, and out of nowhere the bouncer tackled my dad. No explanation was said. Very insecure and unprofessional bouncers with a bad power trip. Don’t know how this place is still running. Such a shame that this bar ruined his first impression of the city. Get new bouncers!

Amazing experience very cheap drinks

They included "organized gang" which puts them ahead of Prater Dom (Austria) and Village du Soir (Switzerland).

The security guard is incredibly aggressive. I've been there several times in the past year. Out of nowhere, this man starts using his hands. It's always a very unpleasant experience. The pub itself doesn't seem to be taking any action, which is why I feel it's necessary to leave a review. Looking at the other reviews, this doesn't seem like an isolated incident. It's time for the pub to change its security guard. This doesn't reflect well on such a nice place.

I like De Kroeg mainly because of the great atmosphere. If you are looking for a place where there are good parties, you have come to the right address.

One of the best places to go out in Leiden. You'll spend a fortune on a beer, but that's just part of it these days. Fix the men's toilet!

Okay pub in terms of public and cosiness. Had a bit of a strange experience with the security. We were at the door at 01.55 but the security was busy getting a group out. So we waited patiently for a while. Around 01.58 one of the guards turns around and comes towards us shouting "you're not getting in either". Then we are pushed onto the Kort Rapenburg, where taxis are driving 60 km/h at that time. A bit strange to touch people who are not even on your terrace or have not even been inside. We could have just walked in all that time because all the guards were busy with that group. Even if you are highly emotional because of an earlier group, you have to remain professional towards other guests. In addition, a V on your shirt does not mean that you can just push people around on the street. We could have just happened to walk by.

I have been coming to this pub for quite some time and have always experienced a nice atmosphere. The staff are usually friendly and the music and atmosphere make for a fun night out. I have many good memories of this place. Unfortunately, my experience on the evening of May 11 between 2:30 and 3:00 was different than I had hoped. While I was standing outside, an employee unexpectedly accused me of using drugs — something that was absolutely not the case. This accusation not only felt unfair, but also disrespectful and uncomfortable, especially considering my long and positive history with this bar. I understand that staff need to be alert, but I hope that such serious allegations will be handled more carefully in future. It would be a shame if this incident detracts from an otherwise nice place.

Good vibes, the staff is also having a good time (sometimes they miss a bit too much Haha) a little later in the evening everyone stands up and the music gets a little louder, not my thing but fun!

Too bad the candles didn't work. Otherwise a good thing. Come there often.

What a disappointment to De Kroeg, I have been coming to De Kroeg since 2011. Many evenings of fun and many euros spent. Unfortunately I couldn't get in yesterday because I don't have a student card. So suddenly regular guests who have spent thousands of euros are no longer allowed in? New rule: money received from the customer, now he can leave? Oh yes, it was almost empty inside, so if it was super busy now there would have been a good excuse but an empty tent...? Does The Rebel Group not want to generate income?

We have been coming to this pub for years, but I think it is a shame that such a nice café has such security. Behavior is 0, looked at you very angrily, too bad, too bad.

It was ok, great music in the background and they were helped fairly quickly. On a Friday evening after 12 o'clock the party atmosphere had not really started yet and there were mainly standing tables here and there. Not quite what I expected.

Een echte ouderwetse bruine kroeg waar er in den lande niet veel meer van zijn. Kroegbaas H. Mooie keerl!!

De vijfde kroeg die wij bezochten tijdens onze bierwandeling. Helaas ook de minste. Echt lekker zitten kun je hier niet. Ondanks de grote van de zaak. Alleen krukken. Men heeft hier duidrlijk problemen om personeel te krijgen. Het jonge personeel is vriendelijk maar heeft geen idee wat het moet doen. Biervat aansluiten lukt niet. Bitterballen waren aanfluiten. Nog niet eens mora kwaliteit. Goedkope maar prijzige rommel. Nee, deze bezoeken we niet opnieuw meer.

Prima kroegie, alleen weer jammer van de dj. Alleen maar een of andere Antoon

Wij komen met een groep van 15 man bij de kroeg, meer en deel is onder de 21 jaar. Iedereen mocht naar binnen behalve onze Marokkaanse vriend, omdat het een 21+ avond zou zijn. Verder geen enkele reden dat hij niet naar binnen zou kunnen (niet dronken, niet agressief etc). Komen hier niet meer voortaan, belachelijk wat er gebeurde. Onze vriend ook van streek de hele avond. Hopen dat hier wat aan gebeurd en dit niet andere ook overkomt.

It’s that kind of a bar/club that gives you comfort. I like the vibe of this place, it can be quite crowded, but that’s a plus for me, the only downside in my opinion is that music volume is a bit low, i mostly hear people talk more than the music itself.

Nice place to go out in Leiden but the Dutch people you will meet there are not so nice

Bad service and they don't follow the Corona rules. They are bad and than blame us. 10 friends who got send away. Good beer but the people doesn't care about anyone, don't come here and search another café.

Terras voor de deur, druk punt in Leiden dus lekker mensen kijken. In het weekend is het in de avond feest, altijd gezellig druk binnen. Gewoon goed dus.

Great place lovely serves and good looking bar tenders

Leuke sfeer, prima prijzen en genoeg zitplekken. Ook de wc is schoon en op vrijdag en gezellige dans avond.

Ik heb hier heel wat leuke avonden geweest, maar de laatste tijd kom ik niet meer omdat het erg druk is binnen. Je kunt niet eens meer normaal staan zonder van alle kanten geduwd te worden. Helaas nog een van de weinige clubs in leiden, daardoor waarschijnlijk ook de drukte.

Leuke kroeg, wel erg druk natuurlijk op zaterdag. Tip verplaats de tafels voor 12 uur dat is net even wat handiger

Overdag een gezellig café, maar als je even wegloopt om wat te eten dan dien je bij terugkomst opeens te veranderen in een student om nog binnen te mogen. Leuk man!

Leuke plek voor jongeren om op stap te gaan in het weekend. Wat aan de drukke kant soms, maar je biertje staat snel klaar!

De kroeg is a bar where you can have drinks like any casual bar, and at weekend nights (& Thursday) it turns into more of a "club" but there's still space to sit down and have a drink. Additionally, it has my favorite smoker's area in all of Leiden, since it's in the basement you can look onto the water. Only downside is that it can be very busy.

Five beers on tap and many more in bottles, wine, short and longdrinks, friendly personel and good music - overall 👍👍👍

Leuke plek voor een drankje en een dansje En er werk erg leuk en aardig personeel

Altijd gezellig druk, niet goedkoop maar goeie sfeer en ruim aanbod.

Leuk personeel, vooral als je er vaker komt! Locatie is top en groot assortiment aan drank. Aanrader voor groepen. Enig nadeel is dat ze niet aan muziek vernieuwing doen, de playlist gaat niet met de tijd mee. Ook kan het vaak (te) druk op de dansvloer zijn.

Place has nice beers, but not too many options. Music is nice, and is one of the few places in Leiden that will be open with music until late. Best days if you want to dance and drink is Friday and Saturday.

Voor iemand als ik die niet vaak in een cafe zit. Dit is een aanbeveling! Is heel leuk en gezellig cafetje ik had prima naar de zin.

Het is wel oke, de muziek is niet helemaal mijn ding, maar de lokatie is wel goed. De drank is alleen wel erg duur.

Abbiamo trascorso una serata a Leida e dopo cena ci siamo spostati in questo locale, sicuramente fra i più animati della piccola cittadina olandese. Pub in stile nord-europeo, tantissima gente, ottime birre e intorno alla mezzanotte nella saletta rialzata veine fatto spazio e si balla fino a tardi. Tavolo da biliardo al piano inferiore, qua si può anche fumare senza dover uscire al freddo.

Heel gezellig café, vriendelijke bediening. Veel keuze, enkel jammer dat er geen prijzen op de kaart staan.
