Good vibes overall. However, on August 25, 2025, an employee wearing the green "obey" hat was very unpleasant. Everyone wants to be done with work late at night (understandably), but normally, we always get a warning before closing on this terrace; this time, we had to get up immediately. So, as we sat down inside, he came and stood next to the table, his back turned to us (and admittedly, this was almost circus acrobatic), and took away our empty glasses. Simply put, not customer-friendly.

It was lovely to sit and have a drink. Despite being on a road, there's no traffic, so there aren't many cars.

They let 16-year-olds in, but not 20-year-olds, because it's 21+. The bartender didn't even have a good reason; he said he was this age, throwing glasses across the bar, but we were sitting quietly around the table. I think this is complete nonsense for this place, as it's not treated fairly.

Super cozy cafe with a patio. The crowd is diverse, ranging from 22 to 60. Great, upbeat music, well-known top 40 songs from both the past and present. No air conditioning, but there are ceiling fans.

A lively tavern where you can enjoy a 50-pound Grolsch at a reasonable price. The waiters are very pleasant. They even distribute snacks to the tables. They don't have food, but you can order it from your table in the restaurant across the street. Next to the spectacular Leiden Cathedral. Just below.

Café Bruin in Leyden, right next to St. Peter's Church, is in the heart of the city. Students and locals alike, and we, the Leyden students, reminiscing about the good old days...

Way too busy. You order Bacardi, but you're served cheap junk. In addition, the security staff is anti-social, aggressive and completely unprofessional. And it stinks, stay away from this chowder place

Ball tent, cronyism... Smoking after 1 on Sunday is okay if you know the staff.. No door policy on Thursdays and Saturdays and way too busy

Good beer and nice people around you

I've been coming for years. Always drink a delicious draft beer before going out to eat.

A few weeks my mother and I were outside this establishment with drinks from a previous pub. Our plan was to finish them outside and then enter to purchase drinks from the pub, as the rest of our group was already inside enjoying their drinks. However, the reaction from the staff was appalling. Workers came out and aggressively shouted at my mother. Despite us apologizing and explaining the situation, the rude and hostile behavior continued. When my mother was leaving on her own, a male staff member approached her again and shouted at her, which was both intimidating and unnecessary. This issue is quite worrying. We fully understand the rules and acknowledged our mistake, but there was no reason for such aggressive behavior. A calm and respectful conversation would have been more than enough. This experience left us deeply upset and disappointed.

Not very welcoming, closed the curtains in our faces well looking at prices. We are just foreigners looking to have a good time, would not recommend at all!

Super cozy cafe in the center of Leiden

I went there just for a cozy friday night with my friend, I am just an international student at leiden and wanted to drink a beer or two. We sat down in a table and wanted to go out for a smoke and we left our stuff there. When we come back we saw there was three Dutch men sitting in our place. We warned them first but they said very bad words to us. Then I went to the bar manager and he sided with them saying the seats can be taken if we leave even just for a smoke and we put our stuff there. He did not believe anything I said as I believe because I could not speak Durch or was not white and blonde like him. So this is a WARNING for international people DO NOT go to this place. I just wanted to share this horrible experience we had tonight.

A good watering hole to visit with the friends and family, especially on Thursdays and the weekends. Nice outdoor seating and a warm, welcoming interior design make it one of the many good pubs/cafés in Leiden.

Absolutely worst service and attitude of any establishment I have found in the Netherlands. Bottom of the barrel staff make this a dive without redeeming qualities.

Strange to be spoken to rudely as a customer. Hospitality is an unprecedented concept here.

A pub where the bartender is king instead of the customer. Weird poppy yippy birds that don't sense the customer.

This was by far the unfriendly type of “service” we have ever experienced anywhere. There was a free table outside and three of us actually wanted to eat something there (no special demands, any snack would have been enough) and drink. My husband went in to find out if there was anything to eat there, as there were no cards on the tables, and was given the card in a decidedly annoyed manner. While he was looking inside, the waitress and another guest were loudly complaining about the annoying tourists. We sat down at the table and I actually dared to ask the hairless gentleman who was serving us for the menu (you can actually get them just like that elsewhere). Harsh counter question: “Why?” “Because we want to eat something.” He then went in and slammed the card onto the table in annoyance. We looked inside and thought we would have found something, but due to the gentleman's miserable behavior we decided to leave and spend our money elsewhere.

A tent that I visited quite often. But that all changed when a bartender responded in an exceptionally unique way when I was drinking with friends. He came across as unprofessional and absurdly arrogant. A tent I enjoyed visiting, now a tent I hate. I hope to see change soon. Yours sincerely Bart

Reasonable atmosphere but really better places. A very unfriendly bartender this evening, not used to in this nice city. Came across as unprofessional and rude. Get rid of that guy!! Go to the Jantje van Leiden right next to it or a little further on the new Rhine, there are better places than this.

Dit is een geweldige bar. Het personeel is attent, vlot en voorkomend. De mensen die hier komen zijn zeer divers: het kan want de sfeer is ontspannen. De muziek staat vaak hard maar deze is ook zeer goed.

Een van de leukste cafés van Leiden. Het barpersoneel is altijd vriendelijk en dat valt terug te zien in de sfeer van de zaak. Altijd druk! Mooie selectie aan bieren verder. Keep up the good work! 😁

Heel lang moeten wachten op onze bestelling. Die kregen we incompleet en we moesten zelf maar uitzoeken welke van de burgers zonder ui was. Er was ook friet besteld, deze kwam niet. Nogmaals gevraagd en zelfs toen werd het niet doorgegeven aan de keuken. Een ouder echtpaar dat nog langer zat te wachten op eten was de onbeschofte houding van de serveerster zat en vertrok, zij zaten ook al lang op eten te wachten. De keuken is gevestigd in bar bokaal (er tegenover), maar kan dus niet 2 café’s tegelijk binnen een normale tijd voorzien van bestellingen. Ik zou als ik deze tent was stoppen met t aanbieden van eten. Hier worden klanten niet blij van. Ik zou ook t personeel instrueren om vriendelijker te zijn tegen klanten die geen Nederlands spreken.

Absolutely wild on the weekends, and I love it. People of all stripes, students, local seniors, tourists, all are welcome. They have seating outside too if you're claustrophobic as it gets packed inside by the bar.

Bezocht tijdens Leidse Jazzweek. Zoals andere jaren een hele goeie band. Lekkere bieren op de tap. Hartje centrum.

Very overpriced beer. 3,- for a "fluitje" which is a small beer. On a positive note, the ambience was really cozy and the place was very clean.

Meer malig mezelf bezat hier onder het genot van live muziek. Wel druk, doe ff uitbouwen joh. Verder nog nooit een Uyl gezien binnen, hoax.

We deden mee aan de bier wandeling. Werd goed rekening gehouden met onze voorkeur qua eten. Dat was erg prettig.

Great small bar with excellent music, bar snacks (from across the road) and an excellent atmosphere. The little owl motifs through the bar and around are a bonus!
