A Lovely Historic Experience in Leiden We visited Burcht Grand Café & Restaurant yesterday and had a really lovely experience. The restaurant is located in a beautiful old historic building, and the interior is full of character. The old walls and historic atmosphere give the place a very special charm. The food was good, and the atmosphere was relaxed and pleasant. A special mention goes to Lyn, who took wonderful care of us. She was extremely friendly, attentive, and made sure everything was served perfectly. Her warm and welcoming service really made our visit even more enjoyable. There is seating both inside and outside, so you can choose whichever you prefer. The location is also fantastic, right next to the historic Burcht of Leiden, a beautiful old fortress. If you are visiting Leiden and would like to experience a little bit of the city’s history while enjoying a nice meal or drink, this is definitely a place worth visiting. Highly recommended! Had dinner with a group of friends on the terrace. It was delicious! Asked if a few things could be vegan instead of vegetarian, which was no problem at all; very tasty and good portions. Beautiful location with a view of the castle, chill service. The interior looked nice too.

We come here regularly for a glass of wine and some oysters. The oysters are delicious. However, there is a small point; we always have to ask for spoons (to drizzle the dressings over the oysters). I also always miss the pepper, which I believe is quite standard with oysters. Yesterday, instead of the lemon listed on the menu, we suddenly received lime. I find that a less tasty combination, so we used the lemon from my son's cola. Additionally, I notice every time that I pay for 2 x 3 oysters (24 euros) instead of 1 x 6 oysters (21 euros). I have simply paid this amount including a tip every time because of the amazing staff. But it would be nicer if they paid attention to this. After all, I always get 1 platter with 6 oysters and not 2 platters with 3 oysters. Otherwise, it is truly a top spot for a lovely drink with incredibly friendly staff.

Welcoming reception on a lovely terrace and excellent service! The lunch menu has plenty of choices. Amazingly tasty Caesar salad! Well done!

It turned out really great with the addition of a terrace this year. The wine is truly top-notch. (There is also a wide selection of beer!) And free water on the table without having to ask! The service is good too, by the way; that is perhaps the hardest thing these days.

Beautiful eatery at the foot of the Leiden Castle. Had a delicious meal, good service. A great location for a lovely lunch or dinner for two. Especially in the conservatory, with its limited number of tables, it is wonderful for an intimate moment.

Nice restaurant at the foot of the castle. We had the special for lunch: a real winner. We will definitely go here for dinner sometime too. Great terrace and very nice inside as well.

I often come here for Latin parties. Sometimes they have them in the café itself, and sometimes they're in a larger venue in the same building. Both are great. Free restrooms, unattended cloakroom.

We went for lunch with four people. We tasted a local beer and the burrata was very tasty. Friendly service.

We had a lovely time and the service was very friendly. We received good advice on the wines and were allowed to taste them. Definitely recommended.

Beautiful building, though unfortunately the magnificent ceiling paintings were painted over a few years ago. It's still stunning and wonderful in the summer on the small estate, the Castle.

Everything is great but there's no English menu for non Dutch visitors. Also, servers are not proactive in giving free water. Servers though are nice and warmth.

What a beautiful location and lovely café, but a few things definitely need improvement: 1. The sign outside indicated dinner was available, but this turned out to be false. 2. Hungry, I went in and ordered a snack from the menu. However, only 3 of the approximately 10 options were available. 3. After 3 beers, I realized that the prices on the menu didn't actually match the actual price. It must be said, the staff were very warm and welcoming! Final score: hungry, broke, and drunk

Had a cup of coffee on a busy Saturday afternoon.

We were with a group for lunch and were able to sit at a long table in the side room of this charming building – it was lovely! The food was okay and the staff friendly, but the service was rather slow and chaotic. I received the wrong omelet, but in the interest of time, I just ate it. I also noticed that everyone was given brown bread as standard; there was no other choice. A bit of a disappointment.

The service was perfect. The food was a bit less so, lukewarm and tough. Sorry. The acoustics were a bit poor due to a murder mystery.

De Burcht was our last stop on the Beer Walk. The location is beautiful, and when we stepped inside and looked around, I was impressed by this cafe. I think we were a bit late. They were mostly tidying up, and we weren't really greeted, but I can understand that. The atmosphere is somewhat stately and quite different from the traditional Dutch cafes we saw along the way. We enjoyed our bock beer on the couch for a while. I'd love to come back a bit earlier in the day!

Great place and at least currently a nice and calmer atmosphere than its neighbours. With a phenomenal sight of the Burcht from it's back terras.

We sat in the garden of the Grand Café de Burcht on a beautiful spring day, and it made our trip to Leiden memorable; it was one of the best places I’ve been in the area. The staff were really friendly, and the food was incredible. I haven’t been able to stop thinking about the fries, and it was almost a year ago we visited. The location is beautiful. I will definitely be back to visit when I am next in the Netherlands.

I attended the Comedy Night and I sat right at the front. That was quite an experience

Dated and college student. Nice in itself, but not really the bomb for almost 50 year olds. Staff okay, but in our experience did not take the feedback very seriously. At lunch, in addition to the Salmon and Burrata sandwich, we received a bowl of kidney and white beans. Cold and didn't look very appetizing. Well... nice place but we won't be back. Price does not equal quality.

Cafe near Leiden Castle. The ambience is good if you sit in the next room overlooking the square. Otherwise it's pretty loud.

It is a promotion in cake and coffee and they don’t respect that. They charged separately, didn’t respect the price of promotion. And the apple cake was bad.

The apple pie looks better than it tastes. The nuts over the pie were dry and not fresh. Also, during the weekend, they offer an increased price for coffee and cake/pie.

Last night on October 2, I ate a really delicious stew with delicious stew. While it was a very busy evening due to the celebration of Leiden's Relief, we received the food on beautiful earthenware plates and with regular cutlery, in contrast to the other catering establishments where the stew was served in paper containers. The service was very friendly. We will definitely go back!

Delicious apple pie with coffee.

Ended up here via social deal. Decor is somewhat dated, but otherwise great. Delicious food, flatbread was delicious, but especially the burgers! Friendly service too.

Lovely outside terrace, next to the Castle with a great view. Friendly service. I highly recommend the Blondie with blueberries for dessert :-)

Nice food, for old Dutch prices? That's still possible here! My girlfriend and I ended up here by chance via Social deal. Normally we look for fine-dining restaurants. But due to the purchase of our home, we were short on cash. If you didn't know that Brasserie de Burcht is located at this location, you would spontaneously walk past it. The brasserie is not that big, has a cute atmosphere and is nicely decorated. Upon entering we were received very hospitably and situated. The service is fast and extremely friendly, the menu is compact, yet varied and the food is excellent considering the price. Between meals we are even asked each time if we are ready for the next dish. We eat out a lot. But at many medium-priced restaurants, this is often skipped. While I always find this a very pleasant piece of service. We went outside again feeling very satisfied. I would recommend Brasserie de Burcht to everyone. We will definitely come again. If I could have given 6 stars I would have.

I do not recommend this café. Apart from one male student that was friendly, the rest of the staff were rude. While the food was ok, the staff working there on 20 April 2024 were unfriendly and sometimes outright rude. I asked the lady working at the bar for some water and she told me that I can get it from the toilet. They are also unwilling to split the bill.

A lovely place, both indoors as well as outdoors. The Burcht hill makes a great backdrop. We sat on one of the benches outside. Good coffee, excellent dessert. Great service.

Great for pubquiz nights on Wednesdays

Great place for a drink. Don't know about the food. But the best thing is Wednesday quiz night. Reserve a table because it's always full.

The commedia club de Burcht was a brilliant mix of sharp observations, humorous anecdotes and perfect timing. The comedian kept the audience captivated with a variety of jokes and pleasant interaction. An evening full of laughter and entertainment, definitely recommended!

Echt een prima grand cafe dat al oeroud is. 1 grote ruimte die ook lekker hoog is met tal van autenthieke details en een enorme bar en grote leestafel. Veel muziekevenementen worden er georganiseerd en het is gelegen op een rustig plekje zonder verkeer. Het terras ligt tegen de heuvel aan waarop de burcht van Leiden zich bevindt. Veel lichtinval door de hoge raampartijen maken het plaatje af.

Geschikt om te borrelen in klein en groot gezelschap. Sfeervolle ruimte.

Na de Singelloop hier heerlijk een biertje en borrelhapjes gegeten en gedronken.

Piccolo flesje cava besteld ,het was een oude flesje ,en geen prik of bubbels, geruild voor een andere flesje het was ook oud .jammer!

Plek geweldig. Bedingen aardig en beleefd. Alleen een bakje nootje 4 euro voor een kleind handje vol is echt niet oke.

Toevallig terecht gekom n en echt fantastisch gegeten, met top service en een leuke sfeer!

38 jaar geleden hebben wij onze trouwdag gevierd in het Koetshuis. Het voelt altijd weer vertrouwd om daar wat te eten of te drinken. De jongeman die ons nu bediende was vriendelijk, vrolijk en vlot. Leuke plek om even uit te rusten tijdens een wandeling door ons mooie Leiden. Ik zeg doen!

We waren in Leiden voor een uitvaart, welke gesitueerd was in dit café. De statafels bij de deur zorgden ervoor dat de tafeltjes meer achterin nauwelijk bezet waren. Jammer.

Begin mei zijn wij getrouwd in de besloten tuin van het Grand Cafe. Het was echt geweldig! Alles was top geregeld. Het team van de Burcht dacht heel goed met ons mee naar oplossingen door de beperkingen i.v.m. Coronamaatregelen. Op de dag zelf was het perfect. De bediening was top en alles liep volgens afspraak. We hadden geen leukere dag kunnen wensen! Bedankt team Burcht!

Too large and "fancy looking" to be a pub, but has the menu if a regular pub. Great gun and tonics. The events organised here are really interesting.

Mooie, rechthoekige zaal met een afgerond plafond. De zaal ademt de jaren dertig van de vorige eeuw. Prachtige omgeving in hartje Leiden. Vriendelijke bediening, dat zeker, maar ik vond de witte wijn niet erg lekker. Een verbeterpuntje.

Heerlijke zaak in hartje historisch Leiden. Goede borrelhapjes, lekkere drankjes in een lekker informele sfeer.

Gewoon een hele fijne plek om te verblijven. Het ademt de sfeer van een paar 100 jaar historie uit. Mooie plek onderaan de burcht.
