Café de Wetering in De Weteringschans

It's been 10 years since we first came to this bar (we have visitors from Toronto Canada). We had such a good time previously that we made sure we found you again and you did not disappoint...a busy bar with a wonderful fireplace upstairs...such great atmosphere. We love the simple cheese plate too. :-)

Myself and 7 friends were keen to go to a local bar that locals went to, yes we were tourists but you know what I mean. We found Cafe de Wetering which was easy to find and was far enough away from the town but within walking distance. As you enter you are greeted with a warm cosy vibe and your ears are wrapped in nothing but conversations from those around the bar and from above too. There is a steep narrow wooden stair case to the right of the bar that leads you too an upstairs seating area with tables fanning out from a large fire place which on arrival was burning away and lending itself to that warm cosy vibe we were looking for (November is cold in Amsterdam). I started a tab with a very nice and friendly barkeep and we found a table in the corner and managed to find enough chairs to squeeze us in upstairs. I surprised my self in that I managed to carry a tray of beers from the bar up the narrow wooden stairs over the heads of my fellow patrons to land on my table without spilling a drop. It was worth it though, the beer was lovely! All in all if you want a warm welcoming bar were you just hear conversations as you sup your beer in the company of like minded people then I highly recommend Cafe De Wetering!

You will struggle to get a seat here but it is worth it - standard offerings but great vibe, feels cosy and local but welcoming!

Be patient with the service, but this place is worth the detour! A superb Amsterdam address with a wood-burning fireplace and a great drinks menu. Come early, the place is very popular!

Beautiful place to have a beer in the summer and chat with someone you don't know. In the winter the fireplace is burning which gives even more atmosphere than the place already has!

I have been coming to this cafe for almost a decade and it feels like coming home, the bartenders are friendly and everyone gets their beer or drink perfectly poured as it should be, real catering toppers. It is small, cozy, beautiful lighting, fireplace, delicious cheese and some nuts and no tea, coffee or WiFi, just chat with each other.

Incredible. This was recommended to us by a friend who lived in Amsterdam and it lived up to expectations. Lovely atmosphere. We recommend to get there early as quickly fills up

Owner Stephan and his team members like Friso run this bar in a very chill way. Everyone is welcome to walk in, chill, and have a beer. It’s no party bar, it’s in style of “chimney, board games and bar talk”. Very nice place to sit down and relax after a day in the city. Oh - and their selection of tea is incredible, ask for it! ;-)

Cozy, not too large cafe with a floor on 2 levels. No food other than snacks.

Beautifully located pub, but the service is really too Amsterdam for words. They really don't deliver the beers if you're sitting outside. I think it could be a bit friendlier.

Great atmosphere but I paid for a beer and a cider and they still asked me for 2€ to go to the toilet!! Sorry but that’s not acceptable if I consumed two drinks!

The atmosphere in this bar is phenomenal. One of my regular shots. There is not much choice of food/drink, but this fits within the character of a brown pub. The coziness makes it ideal for a nice beer.

Classic brown bar, this place is amazing with an awesome fireplace.

Traditional Amsterdam cafe. Nothing fancy but food, service, atmosphere etc excellent. Prices very reasonable. If planning meal, enquire as to availability. Sometimes busy with local event

Beautiful little bar. Super quiet inside and out. Everything is reasonably priced and they take cash! I can only imagine coming here in the winter, grabbing a whiskey and sitting upstairs by the fire! Will certainly return here!

Hidden gem in the city. Great atmosphere and service. You could easily believe you are in a pub in the 1600s.

It is a really hidden gems in the town. That was a a nice afternoon over there. Atmosphere was quite good. The highlight of the cafe was wooden fireplace. Would love to visit again soon.

The most authentic and cozy pub in Amsterdam.

Cozy and nice, but normally packed. Hard to get a seat or talk to friends. But maybe for a couple to sit close and talk? Or just avoid the peak hours (I wanted to take a photo of the wall fire but that couple in was so closely sitting to it the whole time. Sorry guys for having your face here)

Super friendly staff, great drink and magnificent atmosphere, the fireplace is cherry on top. I wish I could give 6 stars for the atmosphere. Pretty cheap too.

Als je je hond meeneemt… krijgt ie geen water omdat… ze geen mensen met honden wensen.. toch niet zo’n leuk café .

De open haard boven is al minstens 50 jaar een echte magneet.

My favorite brown cafe in Amsterdam :) quite busy, but very cozy, sit upstairs and enjoy a drink near the fireplace with friends when it’s cold outside.

Cute little brown bar with a cozy wood burning fireplace upstairs. This place is always busy but the tables turn relatively quickly so you can find a spot to sit. The barkeep is very friendly and would highly recommend this spot for a nightcap

Lekker ouderwetse bruine kroeg waar de eigenaar de laptop fools nog weet te weren. Je hebt helemaal gelijk kerel. Laat je goede voorbeeld volgen en we krijgen een leuke wereld ervoor terug.

Really cozy bar. There is an actual fireplace upstairs which makes it extra cozy. Don't expect to have a wide selection of drinks but you can find beer and wine for sure.
