Café Emma in Wijk 21 Regentessekwartier

Lovely pavement café serving tasty open sandwiches and other light meals. The area is vibey with lots of eateries in the square and surrounding 4 roads. Unfortunately the pavement is full of dog faeces right next to the restaurant which is quite unhygienic.

Nice tent, a lot of tents could take an example from this.

It's a nice place, but unfortunately, last Saturday we had a really rude bartender. After we'd been chatting happily at the bar for half an hour, he ordered us to get up from our stools because his two friends had apparently been sitting there half an hour earlier and were coming back in. We simply got up and made room, but the rude way he treated us was absolutely unacceptable.

Top café with delicious food and a super friendly team who pay full attention to you.

We sat in the sunshine for a bit and ordered a croquette sandwich. The crust was very hard, so there was no alternative to the type of bread. The atmosphere was good, and the service was great!

Very nice and good service. Very friendly and relaxed, also very hospitable. Menu is good for both drinks and food, not pricey. Beer brewed by women is delicious and so are vegan oyster mushrooms Biterballen. Nice place, enjoy it every time. We have now also eaten a burger and a delicious chocolate nut cake dessert, very tasty. It's always nice and cozy here.

Always a party, delicious brie quiche with good lettuce. Bavette was well fried. Tasty Verdejo, which fortunately does not cost 7 euros per glass like elsewhere. And the service was again very friendly, not pushy, fast and attentive.

Ik reis de wereld rond voor mijn werk en ontmoet dagelijks nieuwe mensen. Ik kan zeggen dat ik een groot aantal volgers heb op sociale media. Voor nu blijf ik even anoniem, want ik ben me bewust van hoe de media kunnen reageren. De reden dat ik dit schrijf, is omdat ik vind dat dit gezegd moet worden. Ik vind persoonlijk dat het gedrag van Café Emma niet acceptabel is. Zoals ik in elk land doe, sprak ik af met een collega. Zij stelde voor om in Café Emma af te spreken, omdat dat voor haar een geschikte plek was. Voor mij was het de eerste keer, dus vond ik het prima. Toen ik aankwam, was het al druk binnen en had het een herbergachtige sfeer. Ik zocht naar mijn collega en kreeg oogcontact met de barman. Op het moment dat ik hem wilde begroeten en knikken, keek hij de andere kant op. Ik vond dat vreemd, omdat hij mij niet welkom leek te heten. Ik zag mijn collega niet en belde haar op, waarna ik buiten op haar wachtte. ze is een echte Nederlandse vrouw, blond met blauwe ogen, zelf ben ik half Nederlands en half Indisch, met een licht getinte huid en zwart haar. Toen we naar binnen gingen, zag dezelfde barman ons weer, en begroette haar vriendelijk. Naar mij keek hij niet eens om. Ik voelde me al totaal niet op mijn gemak en niet welkom. Later op de avond wilde ik afrekenen, en de bediening die ons hielp, bleek duidelijk de broer van de barman te zijn, die ondertussen met een glas bier naar buiten liep om te roken. Ook was duidelijk te zien dat ze erg op elkaar leken en dat hun moeder de eigenaresse is. Ik maakte nog een vriendelijk "grapje" met de bediening, maar er kon geen glimlach vanaf. Het enige wat me is bijgebleven, zijn die neerbuigende en afkerende blikken jegens mij. Hoewel er een andere ober was die zich wel netjes en vriendelijk gedroeg, was het duidelijk dat hij ingehuurd was. Jammer genoeg was hij niet onze vaste ober, want ik had al een fooi van €100 klaarliggen, zoals ik in elk land doe om hardwerkend personeel te steunen. Maar degene die me zo heeft laten voelen, is ongelofelijk. Met dat onprettige gevoel ben ik weggegaan en was ik benieuwd naar andere reacties met betrekking tot racisme. En wat blijkt? Dit is al vaker voorgekomen in Café Emma. Jullie zouden je moeten schamen, vooral de twee jongens (broers), waarschijnlijk de zonen van de eigenaresse, en een vrouw van eerdere reacties. Ik zal persoonlijk nooit meer naar dat café gaan en raad het ook iedereen af die een kleurtje heeft.

This place is just an average cafe/bar in a nice historic building...there isnt really cooked food, unless you are Dutch & live on bitterballen and some other unidentified fried balls. Ambiance was for me the only positive thing for the rest pretty bad acoustic and lighting; we couldnt hear each other when talking, service is anything but polite or quick. I was invited here so I was curious to explore but wont repeat.

We were having a couple of drinks at a table. We asked the waiter for a menu for dinner and he said the dinner menu is only available from 6 pm. ( this was around 17h30) A few minutes later he reappeared to advise that someone had just called to book the table! So basically we were kicked out because a telephone booking from a local took precedence. Disgusting service. I can’t comment about the food.

Ik ben hier voor het eerst en ik ben onder de indruk. Het ziet er heel leuk uit. Hartstikke gezellig met leuke mensen. Heb hier alleen de koffie gedronken. Dat is natuurlijk goed bevallen. Heb niks gegeten hier dus over te eten kan ik niet oordelen

Hier is mij voor de allereerste keer ooit gevraagd of ik mij ln pinot noir gekoeld of op kamer temperatuur wil ❤️ Heerlijk vers eten en zeer kundig en super vriendelijke bediening. Zalig gedineerd. Na het eten vroegen ze zelf of we het overgebleven eten mee naar huis wilde nemen.

The atmosphere is good, the food is ok but the service has a long way ahead of them to grow. Horeca is a profession. It should be considered as one - it should be delivered as one. Having worked directly in that industry for only a handful of years (a long time ago) but having being working with horeca through the Meetings&Events business for more than a decade and a half, I would advise they get some F&B manager to teach their staff the basic rules of service, the basic rules of customer engagement.

Ik kom hier af en toe, en het is echt een heel fijne tent. Vriendelijk personeel, leuke sfeer, flink wat ruimte op het terras en binnen ook leuk. Personeel spreekt ook goed Engels. Ook de lunch is aan te bevelen

Leuke cafe waar je goed kunt lunchen. Jammer dat dat niet meer na 15.00 kan. Prijzen zijn heel schappelijk.

Beautiful place, also dynamic in atmosphere, during the day offers a neat cafe experience with all the good bits, during the evening becomes a grand bar where you can enjoy top drinks and chat along with your friends and buddies. They also stock local spirits from around the Netherlands, ask about those and you may get to try a new drink for the first time.

Prima en gezellige plek op het Regentesseplein voor een top latte macchiato (of een ander drankje/hapje)

Eten was niet binnen te houden, matige recept en kwaliteit. de serveerster was nog minder. Voor de rest kan ik deze tent zeker aanraden!

Personeel was heel vriendelijk. We wilden nog snel een toetje en drankje. Zelfs tegen bijna sluitingstijd werden we nog heel vriendelijk ontvangen. Top!

Been coming here for six years or so. I’m always happy. The bar staff are consistent and consistently nice which tells me a lot about the place. I had dinner once there and was surprised at the quality of the food they sell. Going for dinner tomorrow.

Great staff, drinks and food. Cafe Emma is a top place for a casual meal with friends - or drinks or coffee at any time of the day. It is unique because it changes as the day goes on from the morning coffee crowd (when you can work or read in peace) to the lunch crowd to the aperatif crowd and then dinner and party people. It’s a cool place and child friendly. When you see older people at a place like this it’s a good sign. Very welcoming staff and there’s always someone to chat to..

Wat een gezelligheid op het plein. Zomaar om de hoek! Informeel en gastvrij, deze keer voor- En hoofdgerecht vlees gekozen, werkelijk van grote klasse. Volgende keer ga ik de vegetarische mogelijkheden onderzoeken.

Vandaag de Emma burger afgehaald (zowel de vega als de bio burger). Helemaal top! Net zo lekker als in het restaurant zelf. Misten wel de gezelligheid van het restaurant maar wel gesmuld :)
