This is our new FAVORITE RESTAURANT in the world! We'll come back to Amsterdam just to eat here. Tom in the bar is TOP NOTCH, super service minded, helpful and friendly. Beautiful interior. The food looks DELICIOUS, drinks look stellar, and everything tastes soooo good!

After a day of shopping, we thought we could sit down at a café in the city for a late lunch / early dinner... but unfortunately an extremely friendly employee pointed out to us that wearing jogging pants that my 13-year-old daughter was wearing was not allowed?! The strangest clothing policy I have ever heard... so in our opinion not recommended, I would advise walking to one of the many other restaurants with a more inclusive policy.

Met enige regelmaat komen mijn vrouw en ik hier eten met vrienden. De gerechten zijn verrassend, lekker en erg goed klaargemaakt. De beef tataki is de beste in Rotterdam, maar ook de broccolini, edamame bonen en rock shrimp tempura behoren tot onze favorieten. En daar natuurlijk een heerlijke fles Cloudy Bay savignon blanc bij.

Went for dinner on Good Friday with 6 people around 8 p.m. The number of people was reduced so we were put at a smaller table. Very logical, but the smaller table was so small that your legs kept hitting your neighbor's. That was a bit annoying. Atmosphere was good. The food was good. The music created extra atmosphere, nice DJ. The music was very loud, but after a few glasses of wine it's not so bad anymore. Received the receipt and fortunately looked carefully because for each dish and a number of drinks that were ordered, €1 had been added. All together there was €37 too much. We indicated this and then we received the adjusted version. Otherwise we just had a pleasant evening.

Went to this bar tonight but unfortunately the experience was downright disappointing. We ordered two cocktails and some food. One of the cocktails arrived way too late, and the Old Fashioned I got was way too sweet – which doesn't suit this classic drink at all. When I pointed this out, the response was quite inappropriate: the waitress simply indicated that “it's always done that way,” without any willingness to listen or discuss. Fortunately, the manager later understood that the cocktail had not been prepared properly, but the waitress' behavior remained disturbing. She responded defensively, curtly and with an irritating attitude. When we ordered the next cocktail, it again took a very long time, and also when I asked if everything was okay, a frustrated response came back. What made it even more annoying is that at one point it was indicated that “this was the last lap” – without any explanation, in a brutal tone. When the last cocktail was finally brought, it was literally placed on the table, as if it was too much trouble. We ended up paying €80 for all this – an amount that is completely out of proportion to the quality of the service or the experience. All in all: poorly trained staff, poor service and an atmosphere in which you do not feel welcome.

When we pointed this out, the response was disrespectful. This is really not how you treat customers. Too bad, because this affects the entire dining experience.

Binnen gelopen om te vragen of we een reservering kunnen plaatsen, waarbij we een kortaf antwoord kregen dat we dat maar via internet moesten doen. Toch een reservering gemaakt waarbij je €10pp Moet aanbetalen. Opname van drink ging mis, de drankjes waar je toch behoorlijk voor betaald niet mooi opgemaakt een simpel longdrink glas waar een cocktail in geserveerd word… 25min moeten wachten voordat er een menukaart word gebracht, toen deze eenmaal kwam was dit een vies gebruikt papieren placemat die je normaal weggooit wanneer er op is gegeten. Toen waren we er klaar mee en besloten we de rekening te vragen, ook dit duurde een eeuwigheid en klopt niet. Tot 3x toe aan laten passen! Het heeft de naam maar het is echt een complete aanfluiting!

Tonight we went to Café in the City. We got the main course right after the starter. In addition, we were not given any knives. There were no more knives. The ribeye was already cut, right? Unbelievable. Paid 90 (pp) euros for a Tino Martin ticket and then also paid money for the toilet. People without tickets could enter straight away. The lady who normally served us was fantastic (not from the knives of course). A mega brawl was an abrupt end to the evening.

Jammer dat we voor 170,- euro intree aan de bar gezet werden. Hier hebben we meerdere over gehoord. En wat als raar werd ervaren was dat het tot 3u open is maar om kwart voor 12 geen cocktails meer geschonken werden. Nadat de Hollandse artiesten weg waren veranderen de muziek ook gelijk waardoor de avond gelijk eindigde.

We were here for lunch, the food was delicious and the prices were fine for a place like this. Service a bit overdue. Toilet care is really a lot less than you would expect at a place like this. More attention should be given to this. Not recommended for people with mobility problems. The layout was a bit crowded, but the round seats were really nice.

We shared a dessert and had mocktails. DRINKS 🍸 Pornstar Martini: The combination with white chocolate was delicious. (Just right, not too sweet—I’m not a big fan of overly sweet drinks.) Mojito Passion: Perfect! A great balance of sweetness, sourness, and freshness. DESSERTS 🍨 There were many different desserts and flavors on the plate. My favorite was the cube filled with a creamy pistachio mixture, topped with matcha powder. The nutty taste combined with the creamy matcha flavor was PERFECT! SERVICE: From what I’ve seen, absolutely TOP!

Today we had a drink with the company of 5 people and 1 baby. Upon arrival it was hardly possible to enter with a stroller. We were allowed to sit somewhere where there was room. All tables were already set at lunch for dinner. After taking a seat, the wine glasses were collected, but the rest of the tableware remained. After 10 minutes the drink was absorbed. Then had to wait 20 minutes for this. Just before these 20 minutes, one of the waitresses came to ask if we had already ordered and when we said that we had been waiting 20 minutes for the order, she went to take a look. Inside it was cold/draft and very unpleasant, many other customers also had to wait a long time and the staff does not look at you and walks past you. There is also no possibility to change your child, although this is possible after asking. The cards also need to be renewed and were dirty, discolored and worn. All in all, no reason to repeat and would not recommend it to anyone.

It wasn't busy when we were there. Very helpful indeed. We sat close to a box where the music was very loud. We had chosen the location ourselves so you can't really complain about it, but I would hang the box in a different location. We had a bottle of spa red on the table, a small detail but you almost never see it being topped up properly. Okan did, we didn't touch the bottle itself. Food was good, more than enough in quantity, and the kitchen was also neat in terms of speed. We will come back again when it is busier

Last Sunday (09-02-2025) we had dinner here as a staff outing. And I have truly never experienced such bad service. We were 9 people and a reservation was made in advance and there is proof of it. But upon arrival the staff actually knew nothing about it. There was no table set for 9 people so we were put at a very large table for 12 people. We actually already had the idea that this table was not for us and later it turned out that that was the case. We were pointed to another table and crammed into a corner with 9 people while it was not even full. After waiting for a while our drinks were taken and we were waiting for them. I think this took at least more than 20 minutes while there were only 5 or 6 other tables occupied. And in the meantime we had not received a card yet, so after waiting a long time we asked for one ourselves. After waiting for a long time they brought our drinks and took our food. In short, we waited an hour for our starter but also for our main course. Drinks were empty, waitresses walked past several times but did not come to us to take new drinks. We kept trying to contact them to ask if we could order our drinks but they walked past us every time without looking. A few of us had steak as a main course and it was lukewarm/cold. When we said something about this, the waitress indicated that this was true. Well, sorry, but I have never experienced that you have to eat steak cold. We also ordered the salmon. But there was something that wasn't on the menu. We asked the staff what this was. They had no idea either, which I find quite strange when you work there. By the way, the music was so loud that we could barely hear each other and neither could the staff. All in all, everything was very disorderly, and took a very long time while it was not even half full. So I wonder how long it will take if it is full! We had a decent bill, but I would certainly never bring my money here again!

I was first skeptical about this place but it didn't disappoint! I was with 3 friends and the 4 of us came here on their ladies night which was a Thursday night. The food tasted great, very flavorful which was surprising! We had duck, chicken, taco, fried rice and potato fries. As for the cocktails, I couldn't complain, the mango margarita was also delicious. There was a DJ set playing old school R&B and some afro beats so the vibe was definitely on point. The only complaint I have is about the shots of tequila we ordered. They didn't ask us which tequila we wanted and just assumed we wanted to premium tequila, we got patron served at the table 8 or 9 euros a shot. Again, they should've just asked what we wanted.

Had a super fun evening. Delicious food and good wine. A point of (constructive) criticism. It would be nice if you could talk to each other in the early evening, before the restaurant turns into a club. The music is great, but could be a little louder during dinner so that you don't have to shout at each other. I don't think it would be useful for the staff either

Had dinner here tonight. As a starter we got fries and rice??? Tasty, but we didn't order that. Drinks just took an hour of waiting. The quality of the food was good, but that was all. The sound was way too loud, they don't have a db meter and they just keep turning up the volume. Prices are ridiculous by the way. In short, stay away... oh yes, pay 1 euro for the toilet even if you have eaten here.

Never in my life have I had such a moronic and sad New Year's Eve! The staff doesn't even bother to look at you and I went all evening without a drink.. the food was also lukewarm.. I wanted to order a bottle at 5 to 12 to ring in the new year, this also turned out to be impossible . After the bill of 360 euros, we also had to pay an additional €2 per person to go to the toilet?! 1 star is still too much!

What a bad evening this was. We thought we would celebrate New Year's Eve at Café in the City, but unfortunately nothing could be further from the truth. Staff was very arrogant, little was possible, 2 euros for toilet visits each time while we already indicated over 400 euros. Very special. Personally, it would have been better for the evening if Frenna had arrived before 00:00. The feeling of the new year was also very hard to find. Could really spend more on this for the money. We are very glad that we did not take a VIP table because this was ridiculous. Almost feels like a scam. I wouldn't take the word VIP too literally.

I am extremely disappointed with this restaurant. We came here for the weekend from Paris and ordered some dishes, but we had to wait an incredibly long time before receiving them. The service is poor. No one checks in to see if you need anything. I asked for water, and no one came. I asked for bread, and it took them at least 20 minutes to bring it—by the time I had already finished my meal. No one came to check on us at any point. I strongly advise against visiting this restaurant. The service is terrible, and the waitresses are unfriendly. I asked two different waitresses for bread and water, but no one ever brought it. Avoid this place at all costs!

Alleen maar slechte ervaringen! Keiharde muziek, kon elkaar niet verstaan. Donker maar discolampen steeds in je gezicht wat hoofdpijn veroorzaakte. En gevallen bij de trap door opstapje die je niet ziet in het donker! Echt gevaarlijk. Service is heel slecht, drinken krijgen duurde lang zelfs na meer keer vragen. Biefstuk rauw kregen wel nieuwe en gratis patat erbij. Voor 43 euro had ik wel sla of patat erbij verwacht. Plek ongezellig boven naast keuken Hadden 20 euro voor een tafel betaald, 125 euro voor eten en drinken wat het niet waard was én daarna moesten we ook nog 1 euro voor toilet betalen en 2 euro voor jas ophangen. Belachelijk als je daar gegeten hebt voor 125 euro. Jay zou optreden deze avond, om 1 uur nog geen optreden en kwam de uitsmijter zeggen dat ons colbertje uit moest en in Garderobe moesten hangen. Ik legde uit dat onze jas in Garderobe hangt, maar dit was volgens hem een jas en begon te schreeuwen ga me niet vertellen wat een jas is, of ophangen of naar buiten! Uiteindelijk mijn jas uit Garderobe gehaald en weg gegaan zonder optreden van Jay gezien te hebben! Onze kerstavond is goed verziekt door alle irritaties, slechte service en dure avond aangezien we slecht hebben gegeten, geen optreden gezien hebben en niet eens konden praten door de harde muziek. Met hoofdpijn en een rotgevoel naar huis op kerstavond! Echt nog nooit zo'n slechte ervaring mee gemaakt! Never nooit meer!

Christmas Eve ruined! Drink only after 30 minutes Meat raw and cold, I received new ones and fries! For that price, ridiculously little and not even great. Place upstairs without atmosphere next to kitchen. Music so loud that you can't even talk to each other. Disco lights that keep shining in your face, otherwise super dark and fallen over one of the steps. Paid 20 euros for table and performance by Jay. No performance at 1 o'clock. Food and 4 drinks 125 euros. In addition, wardrobe 2 euros, toilet 1 euro. My friend and I had a suede bag as an outfit. We had to perseverance in the wardrobe which we did not want and we were kicked out! A normal conversation was not possible, the bouncer immediately went to hang up his coat or go outside. I explained my jacket is in Wardrobe this is our outfit. No, according to him, it was a jacket and had to be taken off or out. I haven't seen a performance that I paid for! Shit Christmas Eve thanks to this poor service and retarded policy

Booked very far in advance. We arrived and we were seated at the bar. When we said something about this we were snubbed: “we really can't move anymore”. While there were still many other tables available. Never come here again. Overhyped. Fortunately, the bartender was pleasant. This made it a little better.

Never write reviews, but this one deserved it. What an incredibly bad thing. Service below standard. Waiting for hours for your food and drinks, only to get the wrong thing. They don't do anything and just leave it on the receipt. But my pants fell off when I had to pay 1 euro for a toilet visit later that evening. Just before that I paid 300 euros for dinner. Never go back.

Due to delays in public transport, I called to move the reservation to half an hour later. Wasn't a problem that we arrived later. To my surprise, we were told that we did not have 2 hours of time available, but an hour and a half. The volume of the speakers was much too high and very disturbing. Also the ladies at the table next to us who also experienced it that way. When I asked if the sound could be turned down, we received the answer that they are a club, that the volume only increased and a DJ also came to play. But it didn't arrive until 90 minutes later?! The food, with the exception of the sushi for which I give a 5, was good but way too expensive. The lava cake was so small that you had to look carefully :-)) Even the mocktails were more expensive than € 10,- At the 'reception desk' we made room for a large group that was coming in at that moment and we were told by the 'hostess' that she was supposed to be there because she was working. So a VIP employee. The menu during Ladies Night (50% discount) can only be seen in the restaurant and has been adjusted with higher prices than the menu on the website. What a tactic! There are plenty of other restaurants where the sushi deserves a good 8 to 10. We won't eat there again.

Vanwege vertraging in het OV belde ik om de reservering te verplaatsen naar een half uur later. Was geen probleem dat we later aankwamen. Tot mijn verbazing kregen we te horen dat we geen 2 uur tijd beschikbaar hadden maar anderhalf uur. De volume van de speakers was veel te hoog en erg storend. Ook de dames aan de tafel naast ons die dat ook zo ervaarden. Op mijn verzoek of het geluid zachter kon, kregen we als antwoord dat ze een club zijn, dat het volume alleen hoger werd en er een dj ook nog kwam draaien. Maar die kwam 90 minuten daarna pas?! Het eten, m.u.v. de sushi waar ik een 5 voor geef, was goed maar veel te duur. De lavacake was zo klein dat je goed moest zoeken :-)) Zelfs de mocktails waren duurder dan € 10,- Bij de ‘ontvangstbalie’ maakten we even ruimte voor een grote groep die op dat moment binnenkwam en kregen we van de ‘gastvrouw’ te horen dat zij daar hoorde te staan omdat ze aan het werken was. VIP-medewerker dus. De menukaart tijdens Ladies Night (50% korting) krijg je pas in het restaurant te zien en zijn aangepast met hogere prijzen dan de menukaart op de website. Wat een tactiek! Er zijn genoeg andere restaurants waar de sushi een dikke 8 tot 10 verdienen. Wij gaan daar niet meer eten.

Ik had gebeld om door te geven dat ik laat aankom, maar tijdens het gesprek werd ik in de wacht gezet. Na lang wachten werd de telefoon abrupt opgehangen. Toen ik bij de tent aankwam, stond er een groep heren voor ons die ook lang moesten wachten, waarbij ze ook in de weg stonden. Mensen van de rij achter ons liepen naar voren om naar de gastvrouw te gaan, dus ben ik ook maar doorgegaan en werd toen pas geholpen. Er stonden twee gastvrouwen bij de ingang, en ik moest mijn reserveringsnaam twee keer herhalen. De een die de reserveringen bijhield, deed alsof ze op haar telefoon aan het zoeken was en zei met een attitude: “Nee hebben we niet.” Dit heeft ze twee keer gedaan en gezegd, terwijl ik gewoon een bevestigingsmail als bewijs heb. Hierdoor dreigde ik met mijn groep bijna weggestuurd te worden. Er moet beter rekening gehouden worden met de drukte. De gastvrouwen raken in paniek en komen niet snel met een oplossing, in plaats van gereserveerde gasten weg te sturen. Na een discussie ging de dame uiteindelijk in de zaal kijken of er nog plek was. Gelukkig was er ruimte voor het aantal personen, wat ze ook in mijn reservering had kunnen terugvinden als ze dat had opgezocht. Het was een teleurstellende ervaring, vooral omdat we ons hadden verheugd op een leuke avond. De chaos bij de ingang zorgde ervoor dat we ons niet welkom voelden. Het personeel leek niet goed voorbereid op de drukte, wat leidde tot frustratie bij zowel de gasten als de medewerkers. Het is belangrijk dat er betere protocollen komen voor drukke avonden, zodat gereserveerde gasten niet in de kou blijven staan. De communicatie over het eten bestellen was ook niet goed. Mij werd verteld dat ik tot een bepaalde tijd kon eten. Ondanks dat ik op tijd mijn bestelling had doorgegeven, duurde het een eeuwigheid voordat het op tafel kwam. Toen ik vroeg of ik mijn bestelling kon annuleren vanwege de tijd, kreeg ik geen duidelijk antwoord. Uiteindelijk kregen we het eten pas toen de tafels naast ons al afgeruimd werden en de andere gasten vertrokken. Hierdoor moesten we ons eten haastig opeten, zonder er echt van te kunnen genieten. We hadden ons voorgenomen om een gezellige avond te hebben, maar door de vertraging en de stress was de sfeer er niet meer. Bij het betalen merkte ik ook dat mijn aanbetaling (de reservering die niet bekeken is) niet automatisch werd afgetrokken. Dit moest ik zelf aangeven, en gelukkig werd het bedrag aangepast op de pin. Ik wil echter een compliment geven aan de heren achter de bar! Ze waren vriendelijk en communiceerden snel. De dames daarentegen kunnen wat vriendelijker zijn en de gasten netter aanspreken, zoals de heren deden door eerst netjes te groeten. Ik hoop dat deze feedback helpt om de service in de toekomst te verbeteren. Iedereen verdient een prettige ervaring, vooral als ze gereserveerd hebben.

Café in the City was a disaster from start to finish. Deafening music from a terrible DJ made conversation impossible, and the staff couldn’t hear our order right—leading to forgotten dishes and mix-ups. Portions were tiny, and what we got was awful: a cold, overcooked steak, rock-hard edamame, and bland cocktails priced like premium drinks. To top it off, it took 40+ minutes to fix a wrong order. Overpriced, chaotic, and nowhere near worth it. Avoid at all costs.

Last year the service here was really better than yesterday. We had called to sit downstairs, but when we arrived we had to go upstairs because there was no room downstairs. To our surprise, a group of boys came and sat upstairs after us, and they were able to sit downstairs. Our coats were not accepted upon arrival. It then took 20 to 30 minutes for someone to come to take drinks, and then another 40 to 50 minutes for the food to finally arrive. At some point I also had to ask for a second drink. It also took 30/40 minutes for the plates to be collected. In short, the service was barely there, and considering what you pay for it, we really didn't think it was worth it this time. Café in the city is no more. Very unfortunate.

Staff reserved for a 3 course lunch had no idea. After a long wait we were able to order a drink. Coffee and wine okay, food not special. (Promise on the site was more spectacular) Dessert did not show up. We were done with it. Above all, very poor service and unpassionate service. Too bad about the high bill, not worth the money.

I love coming here for a quick and healthy lunch or dinner! The vegetables are always fresh and crunchy, the çig köfte is tasty, and I always get fast and friendly service. They also sell chocolate bars with pistachio filling, which are also super tasty! Just a nice place for fresh, healthy and tasty vegetarian food for a very good price :)
