Very pretty bar / Coffee with fresh peppermint tea with honey - delicious 😋 The cheese toasty was rather dry, but okay.

Fantastic service, the staff are friendly and knowledgeable. The beers are fantastic. I was recommended Texels Jutters Bock, amazing. I was planning on eating but when I saw the meatballs come out, I had to order one. They are amazing, simple, meatballs, white roll, mustard and pickles but genius. Genuinely one of the nicest things I have ever eaten and less than €8. I love this place.

First time for everything. My first review of this nature. Not a welcoming place to stop. Completely caught off guard by the lack of hospitality. Not what we’ve experienced in the area. Looks inviting, however once you step inside do not expect to be welcomed and treated with basic courtesy. If you have other options walk past this establishment.

Wonderful bar with great bar snacks

Don't come here!! We felt uncomfortable, the owners were xenophobic. As soon as they saw we are latin, refused to take the order in the table. We ordered 2 coffees and when we ask for the bathroom, they were rude, they stare at us the whole time as we were doing "wrong" just for buying them 2 coffees and going to the restroom.

Stopped here for a cuppa before the AF House. The bartender was lovely, the coffee was great and the orange juice was FRESHLY SQUEEZED and YUM!

Cool pub. Quaint atmosphere. Nice seating and interesting views. Large beer selection. Very friendly service. But Aperol for €9.90 is a shameless tourist rip-off.

Came here for a cheeky vaasje the other day and really enjoyed sitting out of the terrace of Café Kalkhoven and observing the world go by. The seating is close to the main road on the Rozengracht but is a great spot for people watching. Heineken vaasjes (25cl) are only €3.30 which is a great price. Was served by a young guy who was very nice and funny - the older Dutch guy wasn’t too friendly and seemed annoyed I was leaving a tip which is a new one! But all in all very cozy and cute bar. Nice place.

Personal increíblemente grosero que se hacía llamar el “jefe”. Terrible propietario si ese es el caso. Se nota que no les gustan los turistas y NO tienen tolerancia hacia ellos. Muchos mejores lugares para ir con personal divertido y servicial.

Popped in as this was close to the Anne Frank. Service was great staff very helpful. Its a busy road but a great place to people watch. Had a beer and coke was 13 euros which is about right and Amsterdam has become very expensive. Didn’t order food but couple next to use said it was ok for the price.

A lovely little bar/ cafe on a prominent corner. We stopped in to a pick me up coffee and a beer. Friendly service and tasty coffee. Great selection of beers too. Looks like a decent menu but can’t comment on the food as we were not hungry. This is a great place to hang out and have refreshments if you are waiting for your slot at the Anne Frank House.

Siamo stati in questo pub in sei. La cameriera, molto sgarbata, ha giocato sul fatto che eravamo stranieri. Il nostro ordine era stato molto chiaro ma ci ha portato cose diverse. Alle nostre proteste ha risposto "enjoy" e non ha voluto sostituire le pietanze. Il cibo non è stato dí nostro gradimento.

This place really sells draft beer. No need for anything else. Just order a draft beer.

At Kalkhoven it is wonderful to come home after a day of work or after a concert in the Westerkerk. I'm a fan of the sandwiches and snacks on the menu. Also a good variety of beers on tap and many more in bottles.

Lovely, convenient spot to sit in the warm to await our time slot for the Anne Frank house (this is only 2 mins walk away as the café is right next to Westermarkt tram stop). Friendly staff, nice atmosphere and reasonable prices.

I had an incredibly disappointing experience at this pub, not once but twice. On both occasions, the waiter blatantly discriminated against me because I am Spanish. When I asked for a table, he directly told me there was no space, despite there being plenty of empty tables in plain sight. His tone and attitude made it very clear that this was personal, and I felt unwelcome and humiliated. Discrimination of any kind is unacceptable, especially in a service industry where everyone should feel welcome. I would not recommend this pub to anyone and sincerely hope they address this issue with their staff. Avoid this place if you value respect and good service.

They told us they don't let people with babies sit, we went outside and there was a table with a couple in a stroller! Very bad

Really enjoyed our flying visit, stayed for a couple of bottled beers. Great spot to sit in the window and people watch the buzz of the city. Would return, found the staff friendly and welcoming. The pub was generally clean and not too busy when we went.

What a lovely place this is! A big shout out to Ralph and the gentleman he was working with, they made us feel so welcomed. The food and drinks are delicious. Ralph and the other gentleman came out and sang happy birthday to my partner with some nice whipped cream and biscuits, i believe the cream had alcohol in it, thank you to the both of you this made my partners day! Would highly recommend going in, they make you feel at home and the service is 10/10, we will be back on our next visit

We stopped in since it was raining and we had extra time before our visit to the Anne Frank House, which is nearby. My husband wanted coffee, and we shared an apple tart. This place looks much more like what I expected for a brown cafe. It was huge in comparison to Cafe de Tuin.

Came in for a drink with a group. Waiter told me to sit and he will bring my drink. As I walked away, the owner started yelling at me to come back and pay. I explained what I had been told and was met with quite hostile behavior. Drink was average, aperol spritz was very sour.

The service is really bad..the staff there is so rude. He talks like we are asking for favours. Extremely rude behaviour. Its a shame as the bar is nicely located and has good crowd.

One of our all time favourite places in Amsterdam! If you are looking for one of the traditional brown bars of The Netherlands, definitely pop into this place!

I walked into this nice and friendly place by accident. Staff was friendly, my cappuccino was the best I have had in Amsterdam so far. And as a bonus we they offer fresh squeezed orange juice as well. Old and authentic setting. Will come back.

a very nice place to eat. we went there after visiting the anne frank house at 10AM and the staff was really friendly and gave us a table right away. the vibe is really cool / vintage like. the prices are normal compared to all the overpriced cafes in amsterdam. the service was quick and we all felt comfortable in the place. please go there instead of the instagram cafes because it's so much better.

A very cute and typical little café. We went there around 10:30am for breakfast, the staff were very nice and welcoming, even though the cafe was almost empty. I highly recommend for coffee/breakfast/lunch.

Enjoyed a couple of drinks in this warm and cozy place before our time slot for the nearby Anne Frank House museum. Great selection of beers and friendly bar staff. Highly recommend a visit if you are in the area.

We had a fine experience here. Nothing to write home about. Limited menu. We stopped in to get out of the rain and wind more than anything. Didn’t want to walk the rest of the 20 minutes to our original lunch destination. We had cheese and ham toasty with the mustard on it which was good but nothing special. Then my wife had tomato soup with a normal cheese toasty. Both were good not great. Service was very slow but it was sorta busy. Wouldn’t personally recommend or go back unless you need to avoid weather and grab a drink.

Echte ouderwetse Amsterdamse kroeg. Geen gedoe of kapsones hier, daar houden ze niet van bij Kalkhoven. Wel van een uitstekend getapt glas bier. Mooie bierkaart en er wordt ook regelmatig met de seizoenen gewisseld in het aanbod. Als je hier een glaasje wijn bestelt, wordt er ook niet kinderachtig geschonken en de wijn is kwalitatief ook prima. Vlotte, doorgewinterde bediening die bij elkaar opgeteld veel meer dan een eeuw ervaring hebben. Barfood is hier prima, van een bittergarnituur tot kaas/wordt en niet te vergeten de gehaktballetjes. Wat ons betreft niet te missen als je dit deel van Amsterdam bezoekt!

I’ll start by saying Amsterdam, hardest place to find a toilet. but on our travels we discovered this little cafe bar and thank god we did put an order in and they served us the tastiest baileys coffee that we went back the next day for a 2nd one and there apple pies are delicious also. I found a little sign inside that prohibits the use of phones on speaker and playing loud videos in today generation that can be appreciated especially from a self aware phone addict it was nice to stop mindlessly scrolling and just stop and enjoy what was set in front of me for a change so if your in Amsterdam give this cafe a we stop by and 100% try one of those coffees and a slice of apple pie.

Das Café Kalkhoven ist eine sehr gemütliche kleine Lokalität in Amsterdam.... !!!!!!!☝️Es ist urig eingerichtet und die Atmosphäre ist völlig Klasse , alles relaxt . ...👍🙂. Die Bedienung war sehr freundlich und völlig tiefenentspannt. Das Cafe liegt etwas abseits vom normalen Touristen Trubel und ist deshalb auch nicht so voll und überlaufen.!!!!!!!! Ich kann es nur empfehlen, wenn man in der Gegend ist und etwas trinken möchte der ist hier sehr gut aufgehoben.....!!!!!!!!!👍☝️🙂

Absolutely incredible service and food. The quality of the meat was INSANE at this price point. Me and a friend split the mixed meat platter with lamb chops the portions were perfect for two grown men. Not only that but after the meal we enjoy the best baklava I’ve ever had in my life.. sorry mom.

Could be 5 stars depends on who you are - frankly I don’t think they care and that’s just as good. These guys have been around since forever and will probably outlive even Google 🤣 go here for a travel in time. If you don’t like the good old days go somewhere else 🍻
