Café Plein in Rotterdam Centrum

The burger was not the best and felt quite underwhelming. We ordered two Plein burgers, two iced teas, and a prawn starter for a total of €58, which seemed overpriced for the quality provided. The burgers lacked seasoning and were a bit dry, making them far from memorable. The prawns were decent but not exceptional for the cost. The service was average—staff were polite but not particularly attentive or friendly. The atmosphere was fine, but nothing that stood out or added to the dining experience. Overall, for a price range of €20–30 per person, I expected better food and a more enjoyable visit. Unfortunately, I wouldn't recommend it.

I had one of the worst dining experiences I’ve ever encountered due to the unprofessional and rude behavior of one specific waiter—a black-haired Arabic gentleman. His treatment of customers was shockingly different depending on who you are. He was overly friendly and warm towards tables of women, yet completely cold, dismissive, and rude when serving our table, which was all guys. The most frustrating incident occurred when we ordered sparkling water, but he brought still water instead. Naturally, we opened the bottle assuming it was correct, poured a glass, and only then realized it was still water. When we politely addressed this mistake, his reaction was appalling. Instead of calmly resolving the situation, he made a huge deal out of it, blaming us for being “dumb” and not checking before opening it. I have never experienced such disrespectful and condescending service in a restaurant. His attitude didn’t improve. When the replacement bottle finally arrived, he slammed it down on our table without a word—no apology, no acknowledgment of the issue, just complete disregard for us as customers. To top it off, as we were settling the bill, he made a completely inappropriate “joke” about forgetting to add the still water to the bill. It wasn’t funny at all, just another example of his unprofessional behavior and complete lack of awareness. This waiter’s service was rude, disrespectful, and unacceptable. It’s a shame because no matter how good the atmosphere is, service like this ruins the entire experience. I will not be returning, and I would not recommend this place to anyone unless they address such issues with their staff. This occurred Saturday 07.12.2024 between 21:00-22:00 for the reference for the business owner if some action wants to be taken .

Super cozy place, with friendly staff. Kitty, in particular, is truly amazing, a super friendly woman who's good at her job! The food was also delicious. The heating on the patio is also great!

Mostly I go to this bar for the cocktail's during the weekend because they are doing really good pina colada. People there are friendly and nice but service is little bit slow. Maybe because when is busy they forgetting, but in general not bad.

We wanted to celebrate our King's Night 2024 unforgettably. However, this was bitterly disrupted. I will take you through our experience at Plein. First things first! The security guards couldn't help but smile. In addition, she wanted our ID card, even though we are clearly real ladies. Luckily there was Robin. What a ray of sunshine that is! We had to sit in the rain because no one stood up. That aside. Fortunately, ray of sunshine Robin was there again, who offered us an indoor table. We had a birthday boy in our midst and we wanted to celebrate in a big way! When we asked where our fireworks were, the clerk with the bun (plork👹) asked: “Have you paid yet?” We said “no” because we also had to pay for the drinks. “Then I wouldn't be so difficult if I were you,” we were told. We were perplexed and tongue-tied. Besides being very blunt, it is also not hospitable at all. We raised this with our favorite waiter: Robin! In addition, the manager also heard our story. We were told to leave a review. Joking aside, we think this is a truly special experience and we have never been treated like this in the catering industry. Still, despite everything, Robin gave us a nice evening. Thank you very much Robin!

Arrived at 12hr afternoon, not that busy. Ordered 2 tosti’s. Waited for 1,5hr for them… we’ve mentioned it three times but no action. Disappointed not the first time

We were guided in here by the owner for free with a group of colleagues after a dinner elsewhere. We were surprised that it was not busy at all for a Friday evening. Until I went downstairs to the toilet and the toilet was completely overflowed. It was completely flooded and staff were busy removing the water. It smelled terribly. People went back up the stairs gagging. What surprised me most was that the tent was not closed immediately. Staff walked out through the cafe with buckets. The air was unbearable and the floor upstairs was also completely wet and dirty. I have never experienced anything so unsanitary. We fled to a cafe next door. We left Stadhuisplein around 3 o'clock and the café was empty, but that was probably because the air could already be smelled from the terrace. Too dirty! I will never set foot over this threshold again. To Cafe Plein's response below: The owner should have closed the cafe immediately in this situation! You've been open for at least another 1.5 hours. This can make people very ill, and you also prepare/serve food during the day. I am curious to know how you score on the inspection by the Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority/inspection service.

I felt like a rat among all the junk, dirty shops and not my taste in music. Napkins, straws, drinks and all kinds of cans were all over the floor, the whole club was full. Downright gross!

Gentleman with a blonde bun and pockets on his buttocks is super nice and cozy, great atmosphere because of him. He is hospitality itself and he makes you feel free to chat about anything he wants. TOP TENT FOR THAT!

Had a nice hot cup of coffee on a drizzly cold afternoon. Heaters and blankets on the terrace. They were really necessary, happy with them!

This is where you should go if you want to have a fun bachata/salsa dance evening with your partner or small group! I was planning to go here with a group of four for the Latin evening that takes place every Tuesday, but unfortunately two of our friends dropped out, so I and a friend of mine had to hit the dance floor with minimal preparation and dance knowledge. We had a beer upon arrival to watch the situation, but after a while we were approached by two friendly ladies to come onto the dance floor! It is important to know that the concept of 'Social Dancing' is used here. This does not mean that the first lady you invite to dance immediately wants your number, but simply wants to dance! All the ladies I danced with taught me a few extra steps/moves, so as the evening progressed I did a lot better than the basic steps that I only knew at the beginning of the evening! Expect a high-five after every dance and then move on to the next person looking for a dance partner! I heard that the DJ plays a variety of salsa/bachata music, which gives a nice change on the dance floor. Everyone present seemed to be having a great time and this location looked like a nice place to spend your evening if you simply want to have fun dancing without having to get drunk! Highly recommended and as soon as I have the opportunity again I will definitely be here again!

Na eentheatervoorstelling op weg naar station hier wat gegeten. Eten smaakte goed, vlotte bediening en redelijke prijs-kwaliteitsverhouding; beperkte kaart.

C’est un chouette endroit pour faire un petit break dans la journée. Le décor est très US. Le service est excellent et le personnel est très agréable. Les prix sont corrects pour l’endroit.

Friendly, comfortable, cozy 😊 welcoming to tourists, but had a "locals" vibe. Good music, very nice large patio, perfect for people watching on a busy shopping street. Extensive liquor and cocktails without the stuffy vibe of some other nearby cocktail places. Apfelkorn is delicious! Open late! I didn't have food but the menu looked very tasty for bar food and traditional dutch treats. If you're not sure where to go for a low-key evening with friends or alone, this is the place.

Gezellig personeel en heerlijk die shotjes. Komen zeker nog een terug. Wij waren de gezellig wat ouderen die avond. Ga zo door toppertjes.

We zijn in de namiddag even naar café Plein gegaan om een biertje te drinken. We vonden het heel gezellig zitten binnen en de bediening was ook goed.

Lekker gegeten, betaalbaar, goede sfeer, vriendelijk en hulpzaam personeel. Wij komen niet uit Rotterdam en werden geholpen met metro etc.

Bediening niet zo vriendelijk. Het was niet druk, maar toch lang moeten wachten op de drank en daarna nog langer om te kunnen afrekenen.

Wachten op eten. Stond al klaar bij keuken. Personeel te druk met mobieltjes. Eindelijk iemand die het zag maar moest nog eerst saus bijvullen. Eten koud geserveerd. Terug naar keuken en binnen 5 min weer op tafel. Opgewarmd dus. Taai vlees en laffe smaak loze groente. Vloer vies en rommelig. Toilet ronduit vies. Geen enkele tegemoetkoming behalve een niet gemeent excuus. Plein Rotterdam nabij stadhuis. NOOIT WEER.

Wij zaten buiten op het grotendeels overdekte terras met op verschillende plaatsen kachels en warmtelampen voor de frissere tijd van het jaar. Fijne, niet opdringende, bediening en vlotte service! Sparerib was best goed van smaak maar had voor mij iets meer gegaard mogen zijn. 4*
