Café Sarphaat in Oude Pijp

Ridiculously expensive beer. 12 euros for 0.5 liters. Absolutely ridiculous. Don't go there.

Very disappointing and almost unbelievable. We ordered two Heinekens that were completely flat - no gas at all. We politely asked if they could pour new ones, and they refused, insisting that “Heineken tastes like that,” as if we’d never had a beer before. A simple fix with two fresh beers could have easily turned the situation around, but the way they treated us was unacceptable. We left without drinking the beers (who wants a flat beer?) and they still charged us. I’ve never experienced something so ridiculous and unprofessional. Clearly, this is not how you run a bar. Not coming back.

Great food and service, staff are nice and friendly, seating outside at the heart of the city is lovely.

I've been here a few times now and it's always a great experience. The smash double cheeseburger is delicious, and the burgers are cooked medium, just the way I like them. The spare ribs were surprisingly large and also delicious. The service is a bit slow, but overall, a good experience.

Great for breakfast and lunch or having a coffee and watching the world go by. The food was delicious and the staff were very nice. We visited twice in our short Amsterdam trip.

Terrible hygiene of personal and interior. Had a soup, looked like puke. Never tasted other wise I would compare it with puke. Eggs and bacon was terrible. Bacon was second hand or found dead in the streets. The only possitive was that young lady, whom first day it was. Keep it up kid. No chance for seconds.

Extremely disappointing experience. We were a group of 14 people having a business dinner, and the staff was simply terrible. They were openly mocking us, visibly irritated when we asked for simple things like water, and overall showed zero professionalism. It felt like they had something against non-locals or anyone who doesn’t speak Dutch. The service was rude, sarcastic, and completely disrespectful. Honestly, the staff at a Burger King would have provided a much better experience. A total letdown — poor service, bad attitude, and absolutely no sense of hospitality. Avoid this place at all costs.

I highly recommend you avoid this place if you are not a local. They seem very irritated with any non local customers. We waited 25 minutes to be greeted, and then when we approached the counter to see if we needed to order inside we were told to sit and someone would be with us. No one came while multiple others were greeted instead. Disappointed for sure, as we were told by locals this place is awesome.

Seeing on the menu options for fresh squeezed juices looked promising. However, they charge a lot for small glass diluted juice (more than half is water). Also I had bagel toast with the most terrible bagel (or any bread) in my life. They shouldn’t be a shame serving food like that . Place is more to catch a people who like to be in the centre of happening as has nice location-but if you’re appreciating your money highly recommended to not get anything that is made in their kitchen

Great location. We were walking past and hadn’t eaten yet and wanted a nice brunch. So much choice on the menu! Staff were lovely. Food was amazing. Highly recommend the Elderflower Lemonade too.

Very, very tasty!!! And very, very friendly service! It's located on a busy street, but there's still a good atmosphere... and the park right next door helps to muffle some of the traffic noise.

Cozy cafe in the sun near the Sarphati park with an extra large terrace. From 9 am you can have breakfast here and it tastes great. You can also choose healthy juices in the morning after a night of heavy partying 😊

Very good athmosphere & service

As local residents, we really enjoy coming here. For a cup of coffee, beer, lunch or dinner. Nice menu and very friendly service. There is actually always room on the terrace and it is nicely located in the most beautiful neighborhood of Amsterdam!

Delicious carrot cake and a fresh sweet limo. The ladies in the ministry made it clear that they were done with the men in their lives. Fascinating to experience their imaginations😅

Everything is very unpleasant. The lousy attention, the service and the food are bad, the bathroom is all dark and has filthy smells, you can't even see it, you don't know if you're stepping on pee or a rat. Terrible and with very high prices on top of it. Don't go!!

I order nachos for €15 and I get a bowl of Nacho chips without cheese. With 3 small dips and the Nacho chips were very tasteless and dry, it tasted like dry crackers.

They don't wash the glasses during rush hour (I don't know if they do it well when it's quieter), they dip them upside down in the sink, shake them a little and hit them with the jet of water that the beer tap has 🥴

Nice terrace in the sun, but unfortunately the service is very slow. Waiting 30 minutes for a cup of tea is not quite how it should be. Shame!

Encontramos o Cafe Sarphaat por acaso após longas caminhadas por Amsterdam. Uma surpresa agradável pelas muitas opções no cardápio de comidas e bebidas. O atendimento foi muito fraterno e acolhedor. É um bom lugar para se ficar nos dias mais frios de Amsterdam.

Don't order the breakfast menu, it's a scam. Everyone in the service was very friendly, but this place leaves a lot to be desired. With so many options on that same street, I recommend going anywhere else.

La peor madame croque que comimos. Gruyere que no sabe a Gruyere, un poco de bechamel insípida (muy sosa y mocosa) y un huevo frito que se había cocinado a través y a través. Como tal vez su mesa reservada semanas antes está cerca del inodoro o al lado de la puerta principal - tenemos la escotilla de servicio, que era genial para ver en la cocina, entender lo que había salido mal con un filete o ver patatas fritas enfriar... . Te haces a la idea de que el servicio aquí no es genial, el bar está cubierto de vasos vacíos, nos entregaron una botella de vino sin vasos y esperamos durante 20 minutos para obtener cualquier servicio, ¡gracias a los chicos de la cocina por tocar una campana de servicio para que el camarero nos vea! Las ofertas de comida y bebidas son en realidad muy buenas - fondu era excelente, al igual que otros platos pedidos, buena selección de cervezas y vino. Probablemente sea mejor no venir el viernes temprano por la noche para la comida.

First of all I would like to comment on the bathrooms- absolutely disgusting and dirty. Second, unfortunately the staff was not helpful at all when we asked if there is any space for us to change the baby. Ok, I understand you don’t have it - but maybe try to be a bit more accommodating and think how you can help. Third - Texel for 12 EUR? Really? Fourth - bitter garniture as expensive, small and not good quality. We won’t be back here.

Today I have visited Sarphaat Café and the 2 waiters that where in charge where too young, not well trained, and they have not a real good attitude. I will never ever recommend this place unless waiters are correctly trained and supervised. It is a pity since the place is nice and food is very good.

You're very nice there! Service is fine, but I wouldn't come back for the food. I had a smash burger, but it was quite thick burgers that were too salty with almost no sauce.

Ended up at Café Sarphaat by chance. Nice, laid-back atmosphere. We sat outside, a bit cramped but fine. We had already eaten but fancied a dessert. Unfortunately, my tarte tatin wasn’t warm, so I sent it back. We had a great evening, stayed outside until late into the night and continued inside from 1:00 AM. The bartender occasionally messed up our orders, and you could see the frustration on the staff's faces.

Time for a (new) manager to tighten things up a bit. Dirty menu cards on the table, lots of dirty dishes on the bar, loud music in an almost empty place and staff very busy with each other, screaming, whining, childish stuff. If you have to pay €3.70 for a soft drink or almost €13 for a mixed drink, you can expect some professionalism and not have the feeling that you are in a youth club.

In this small and charming bar you will find everything you need for a good breakfast. For both lunch and dinner, its menu is varied and informal but of high quality. It is a safe bet that is not excessively expensive. And they have some fantastic beers! What more could you ask for?

Waited half an hour for 5 coffees at 4:30 PM. We left at 5:00 PM because we ran out of time. The terrace was full, but tables around us got drinks for us. Repeatedly asked if the coffees were still arriving or if the order had been lost (which can always happen). In response they said it was busy and they were busy. I understand that it can take longer at a time when many coffees are ordered, but almost everyone was already drinking beer. The moment I indicated that we had to leave and had no more time, I received an "okay, no problem" response. An apology would have been appropriate. Deploy more staff or close part of the terrace if the crowds are too much!

We passed by this café and the wait was to die for. 40 minutes without anyone coming even though at the beginning she told us she would come. Had to go see them to order a coffee…

Considering we sat inside opposite the bar, which looked as though a bomb had hit it with the amount of dirty plates and glasses, we were ignored for 10-15mins and had to get up and walk the 3 steps to the bar to order something. Food was average, and the service was worse with one rude female member of staff. To top it off, I used the men's toilet and when I entered I nearly threw up the food I'd just eaten, it was awful, didn't seem to be cleaned regularly or even have any ventilation, just a can of air freshener.

The pizzas were really good. You want a perfect crispy base. Unfortunately the desserts were disappointing. Dry oreo cake and the pistachio ice cream had more crystals than Willy and Max's tableware. Service was also mediocre. Didn't know anything about the dishes and we were so ignored on the terrace that we had to order dessert ourselves.

Good place for lunch; we sat in the sun on the terrace and the food was very decent! The smashed avocado sandwich was very flavorful, I recommend getting this one as a savory and fresh lunch! It is close to the park and also good for drinks and snacks. Decently priced (for Amsterdam standards).

I was charged extra Terrible bartenders. Charged us extra for our drink, treated us terribly and were very rude. It’s a shame because it’s a lovely place with a promising atmosphere but who lacks in service quality and trust. Vaquitas.

Always a nice cafe with good service

Bij binnenkomst hele harde muziek, toen we vroegen of het zachter mocht, werd dit wel gedaan, maar na korte tijd ging de volumeknop weer omhoog. Het kost het personeel heel veel moeite los te komen van hun desk, ze waren voornamelijk heel druk met elkaar, en een dame stond steeds met haar rug naar het restaurant toe. Wij moesten steeds heel veel moeite doen om een personeelslid aan onze tafel te krijgen, Na het diner gingen wij buiten op het terras koffie drinken en vertelden dat ook aan het personeel. We zaten vlak bij de deur en na zeker 20 minuten hebben we maar even gevraagd of met tijd had om ons te bedienen. En als het nou druk was........er waren heel weinig klanten. Wij willen wel even vermelden dat het eten heel goed was, kompliment voor de kok! Alleen daarom 2 sterren. We komen hier niet meer terug. Op de website prachtige reviews, je kunt je afvragen of deze teksten van het restaurant zelf zijn.

This space has a brilliant outdoor area when the weather is good. On a cold day it's great to sit inside with a hot cup of fresh mint tea. Still a great place to visit

We waited for our order for more than half an hour, and when we asked the waiter when our food would arrive, we got an answer saying "I couldn't give time" and we canceled our order.

Great service outside, ordered drinks with a group. But when i wanted to change inside to buy some cigarettes the female bartender was not polite at all. I wanted to change 5 euros but they don’t change and it’s not there problem? We drank a lot and I guess we where good customers but this is where the service ended I guess… never again ✌🏽

Sat on the terrace for a while, finally someone took the order. Half an hour later, nothing had been served, so I walked to the bar and asked where it was. The answer was that we should just help if we were in a hurry. 🤔 How do they think there are so many nice places in the area?

Half uurtje op het terras gezeten eindelijk iemand die bestelling komt opnemen half uur later nog niks uitgeserveerd. Dit waren btw alleen koffie en thee. Bij na vragen aan de bar was het antwoord als we haast hadden moesten we maar ff gaan meehelpen. Er zijn zoveel leuke tentjes in de pijp waarom zal ik hier nog eens terug gaan?

Terrible. Just because it's King's Day doesn't have to mean that you're running your company so arrogantly and poorly. First wait 20 minutes. So I still ask, have you forgotten us? No, it's busy. Well, there were at least 15 people there. But eventually forgotten. And then you arrive with the stuff and two drinks after half an hour. Chai latte cold. Cappuccino resembles an espresso. And then bring a piece of cake. 8 euros apple pie with whipped cream while we brought carrot cake. Anyway. Once but never again. Why not just say sorry that things are happening this way. Nothing at all. Just comment if you don't like it then go ahead.

Tried to have a drink on the terrace, after 30/45 minutes the service came out, ordered drinks after another 30/40 minutes went inside to check if they had forgotten us, they had not even started the order and no, it wasn't busy at all, the answer we got was, come and help if you think it's taking too long... Order canceled and never returned

Nice terrace, nice staff, but the most expensive apple pie ever eaten. It says homemade, but it didn't taste that way. So it was disappointing. If you want something with coffee try something different!

Very pleasant breakfast/lunch café on the Ceintuurbaan next to the park. Everything I've tried here is excellent.

We gingen lekker zitten met zijn 5en op het zonovergoten terras waar we ongeveer twee uur vlink verteerd hebben. We werden geholpen door een blonde dame die in haar eentje ontzettend hard werkte en desondanks ontzettend vriendelijk was en snel. Wij kwamen net iets aan wisselgeld te kort voor het sigaretten automaat dus ik vroeg binnen aan de bar of de dame daar met bruin haar mijn briefje van €5 kon wisselen. Zonder opkijken sneerde zij “nee in wisselen niet” niet “mevrouw wilt u eerst even kijken of iemand anders kan wisselen” of iets dergelijks. Zeer onvriendelijk en ik voelde mij daardoor heel onvriendelijk behandeld. Ik kreeg bij het sigaretten automaat woorden met de onvriendelijke dame waarna wij de rekening gepresenteerd kregen. Ontzettend jammer dat er zo een rotte appel alles verpest voor de rest die wel weten hoe ze gasten behoren te behandelen. En jammer dat de leuke middag zo moest eindigen. Geen Sarphaat meer voor ons 👎🏻

Beautiful location with a wide range of drinks and food. Something for everyone with a heated terrace. Delicious satay with tender chicken meat and lots of salad.

Had lunch with you for the first time this week. Unfortunately I won't be coming back. I sat outside and the staff doesn't like coming there. The sandwich bagle I ordered looked fantastic (photo 1). Until I realized that the black napkin under the sandwich bagle had completely melted into the cheese. The waitress saw that and without hesitation she said, I'll get you a new one. The second copy arrived quite quickly... but that was not positive... I think the kitchen was not grateful that something had come back. and I received a meagerly filled sandwich bagle in return. Pity. As a result, the taste was no longer rich and the sandwich bagle was also not that special.

Perfect food and atmosphere for a brunch with friends. A very ecclectic Amsterdam vibe that feels just right.

One of the waitresses was unfriendly and unhelpful. She ignored me for quite some time, until her shift was over. The rest of the staff were ok. I paid 12 EUR for a a small cup of coffee and some bitterballen, which I found too expensive.

Te prijzig voor wat je krijgt... Ging voor safe,dus 2 "oma bobs" kroketten op "wat ik had gehoopt" luxe brood...dat mag ook wel voor 8 eurie... Niks is minder waar,krijg ik deze gekrompen kroketjes op getoast brood. Mooie truuk om van je oude voorraad af te komen... Het personeel doet z'n best op de een of andere manier... Lijkt wel of Amsterdam in Monaco is veranderd, maar dan net zonder gouden details. Nog ff en we krijgen straks een porseleinen bord met een Snicker erop voor €12.95 !!! Wat betreft een "oma bob" frituursel totaal niks exclusiefs Voor deze prijs hoor je een luxe brood bol met zalm te serveren... Volgende keer lekker in het Sarphatie park met koeltas ,eigen gemaakte Cesar salad en een fles rode wijn... Let wel,ik ben bekend met het horeca gebeuren,maar we draaien nu echt helemaal door...

Super vriendelijk personeel & prijs kwaliteit voor het eten is prima!

Fijne plek om gezellig een biertje te doen! Bediening is vriendelijk. Goed ingericht. En fijne muziek op de achtergrond. Sarphaat IPA (€5,80) is een absolute aanrader.
