We had one drink. Atmosphere is nice. Waiter was quite rude but we didnt expect much more from an old Dutch guy and this was exactly the vibe we were looking for.

Charming bar almost on the doorstep of the railway station with quick service, reasonable drink prices and a comfortable atmosphere. Perfect spot for a drink while waiting for the train.

It doesn't deserve even one star. The service was very, very poor, and they charged us much more than what we consumed. When we complained, a grumpy and rude waiter rudely threw us out, yelling at us. I've never been treated that way anywhere. DO NOT GO

What a particularly unpleasant waiter. We arrived with a group of eight. The first ordered a hot chocolate with whipped cream, the second a ginger tea. The waiter looked arrogant, rolled his eyes, and said we were in a café, asking why we were ordering that. In a very aggressive tone. "But why put it on the menu then?" The other six people did want to drink alcohol, by the way, but we didn't even get around to placing our orders. If the waiter had made his point in a normal way, we might have considered a different option. But we're not going to let someone like that make a fool of us.... The man is feeling quite a bit and seemed to have been drinking quite a bit. What a crappy place! If you're looking for a cozy café, look elsewhere!

It's cozy, but very noisy in the evening.

This place is the worse place ever. The staff there is very bad. I really need to use the bathroom and I didn’t mind paying for it but just because I didn’t ask them first (they were busy taking care of other costumers and unfortunately i couldn’t wait anymore I really needed to go to the restroom so i just went) but they came to the restroom and dragged me out while i was using it. They asked me to pay which i said this is not a problem i just needed to use it so why you don’t let me use it and ask me to pay after I’m finished. The problem was that they told me they deal with this every day which i do understand but dragging you out of the toilet is not acceptable. The worst thing happened when i confronted them about their way of behavior and the fact that is not ok to drag ppl from the toilet about it they really got aggressive till a point that they started calling me the offensive gay words ( the F one and more) never thought this will happen in Amsterdam and i come from Nyc and the next place that makes me feel as safe as gay person will be Amsterdam but being called F word because i used the toilet with asking first is very very disrespectful and crossing the line of being a good people. I really really felt attacked and judged for my sexual choices. It really effected the rest of the trip for me and I really recommend not going to this place if you are a good person and know how yo respect others.

Visited with my sister for a short coffee before heading off again. We were approached by a middle-aged man with gelled wavy hair, who initially seemed standoffish as we were trying to get into the seats next to the people he was getting an order from. He then turned around, and as if we were an imposition, he asked us what we wanted. My sister asked if she could have a short coffee with an Italian name, to which he replied, "You're in the Netherlands; speak Dutch," which was fun! He also highlights the menu at this point. Though they don't serve the initial coffee requested, funnily enough, they do have other coffees on the menu with Italian names *awks*. Don't know if this is a general rule for any foreign named things or just an issue he had specifically against coffees with foreign names. Perhaps he should find a job in a foreign language school so he can teach us all how to pronounce things before we visit. Wish I could've given it 0 stars and hope that this encourages more people to show up asking for a cappuccino, cortado, or, God forbid, an espresso! x

Café De Ster is a super nice place, especially during Friday afternoon drinks! Nice atmosphere, nice people and a nice selection of drinks. Ideal place to end the week well. Definitely recommended in Amsterdam!

Bar busy and dirty. Service very rude, we were served by an old man that among asking to divide the bill he told us that “he was busy”.

they clearly don’t like tourists, just avoid. Our drinks bill went up each time even though we ordered the same drinks thinking we wouldn’t notice, just sleezy and scummy.

A great location for a nice pint. The staff were very friendly and it is very local to the main train station.

I went there for a drink, the waiter was very nice and the atmosphere was warm.

We were there for a nightcap with our colleagues at Café the Star and obviously felt very comfortable. The service was quite satisfactory, as was the price-performance ratio. The staff was very friendly and you didn't have to wait long for the drinks. The hot chocolate is recommended. The interior is in an older style with old wooden chairs and tables and looks great. Tip top I can highly recommend a visit there and I would be happy to come back.

Well-priced café for this location with real Amsterdam employees. A relief compared to all the shops in the center that only seem to have foreign employees who do not speak Dutch.

Unfortunately bad, I had asked for something hot for my throat, but they only give alcohol, it's a cafe they should do mostly hot things not just beer. Sad.

The service was extremely arrogant and rude. You know, I came here just to have a beer and I'd be on my way and I had been having a really good few hours in Amsterdam already and this waiter who obviously hates his job almost made it a bad one. You know, I don't care if you hate your job or your life and hate yourself even but you don't have the right to ruin tourists' day, who were probably even there by chance. Not that you ever can. I pity you.

A day in Amsterdam often also means a visit to Cafe De Ster. That has been the case for many years. Hopefully this tradition will continue for a long time.

It's actually scandalous that you order a beer and 2 cups of wine and then pay 3 euros extra for the cups and you can no longer return them for money.

Gerard Groot, the owner is the biggest blunt farmer in existence! We were having drinks at the star with friends on Friday afternoon. Our children (11 and 13 years old) were outside and came inside. One of the kids wanted to grab a stool and bring it to us to sit on. The owner was sitting next to us at a table and gets up and yanks the stool away from us and starts shouting that it is not a children's playground. There was no normal conversation to be had with that man. He was even our friend, who confronted him because he started yelling at his son, making fun of him. He has facial paralysis. Even the bar staff apologized to their boss. Extremely rude man, who I think should not be drinking in his own business.

What a shell hut. As true Amsterdammers, we are simply sent away at 11 o'clock by some old bouncer with his big mouth because they are supposedly closing while the whole place is still full. According to us, we should come earlier and it is not the intention to first have a drink somewhere else and then come to Café De Ster. Very strange and not customer friendly at all. Café de Ster is now Café Geen Ster.

Rude staff. Make you feel like you're an inconvenience being there. Everything is dirty too. Definitely avoid.

Just arrived by ferry and dropped bags off at the hotel, there was a small group of us who just wanted to chill a bit and found this place. Staff were lovely and there was a great choice of beers and small(er) food dishes available. Was a thoroughly lovely time just to relax a little. Photo is of a few of the beers we had, as I quite liked this brewery and was the only photo I ended up taking x)

Cool little bar near Centraal. Bartender who took our order was sarcastic as heck, but we appreciate the humor (even at our expense). Hot chocolate with rum is always a great choice on a freezing cold night.

Top Cafe met Jeroen Tap achter de bar . Jeroen heeft in het verleden op doel gestaan op hoog niveau .gekeept was een groot talent maar koos voor het Cafe .iemand met zo,n achternaam kiest voor de horeca wij zijn blij met hem.
