Café Van Wegen in Wijk 06 Binnenstad

One of Utrecht's coziest and oldest cafés. No radio, no name-calling, Niek Veerman loves a pleasant atmosphere. And the drinks are sublime, especially his open wines.

Last Saturday, our group of six visited Café van Wegen. After our city walk, we still had some time before heading to the restaurant we'd booked. And what better way to do that than to visit a café? The café is located a short distance from Vredenburg and can be reached from there in just a few minutes. The first thing you notice upon entering is the absence of music. Only the pleasant hum of people chatting. The second thing you notice is the host. Smart in a white shirt and exceptionally helpful. When we asked if we could pull up two chairs, he took the trouble to put two tables together for us so we could sit together. When you're in a café in Utrecht, you naturally can't pass up a portion of ossenworst (beef sausage) and cheese. We ordered these and, after our drinks were delivered, they were presented to our table with a flourish. Of the six people at the table, four had never tasted ossenworst (a flaw in their upbringing, surely...), but with a pinch of salt and pepper, they all found it a very appealing snack. Just like the cheese, the ossenworst disappeared from the plate in no time. The ambiance of this café completely exudes the atmosphere of the late 1950s and was a real treat for us seniors. Even the visit to the restroom brought back old childhood memories. All too soon, it was time to leave for our dinner reservation. After a warm farewell, we left this unique café. Unique not only because of the 1950s atmosphere, but certainly also because of the ambiance the host creates with his "old-fashioned" hospitality. If you're in the area, don't miss a visit to this café. Highly recommended!

Just the way a pub should be! Authentic, traditional, and with a story!

I called Café Van Wegen to ask a simple question about possibly coming for a drink with a pretty big group this weekend. I politely asked if I could speak English, and the person on the phone immediately hung up without saying a word, and then didn’t pick up the phone again. This is not only extremely unprofessional, but also comes across as discriminatory. I was calling in advance out of courtesy, to inform them and make things easier. If this is how they treat people, it’s not just unwelcoming, it’s damaging to their own business. We’ll definitely go somewhere else.

After 10 years of passing by several times, I finally went in once. What a nice place to sit quietly and enjoy a delicious wine. Host very attentive and told what he had in open wines. Really great! Forgot whether snacks can also be ordered at any time 😇 We would love to come again!

Best café in the Dom City. Authentic. Clean. And the beer isn't served better anywhere. Plus, the owner is incredibly friendly.

By chance, my friends and I stumbled into Van Wegen's last night, where we could have one last beer. Beautiful authentic living room café with a very hospitable bartender. Nice place and clean windows, we will be back soon!

Quiet, neat, old-fashioned 1950s pub in District C

One of the oldest cafés in Utrecht and you will notice that in the authentic atmosphere. Top service!

ALTIJD het perfecte biertje in een écht authentiek Café!

Wat een mooi cafe! Midden in de drukke stad en plek waar de tijd wat langzamer loopt. Waar een gastheer je welkom heet en de worst en kaas aanprijst. De keuze van bier komt in de grootte van het glas niet welke hopsoort is gebruikt. Ga er een keer heen .... Of liever doe maar niet anders gaat er misschien wat charme verloren.

Leuk ouderwets cafe, wel wat gedatteerd maar dat doet verder niks aan het cafe af.

Super leuk echt Utrechts bruin café verstopt in een straat achter de Decathlon. Alsof je veertig jaar terug gaat in de tijd. Echte barkeeper aanwezig. Niet gerund door ongeïnteresseerd personeel dus.

Toen de kastelein per ongeluk een verkeerde jenever inschonk, was hij zo vriendelijk om voor te stellen een extra glas voor noppes voor mij in te schenken. Bijzonder aardig! De jeneverselectie bestond o.a. uit ambachtelijke merken, b.v. Staffhorst. Mooi ouderwets interieur ook! Een deftig, bruin café

Zeer gezellige plek voor een BORREL en een hapje

Ideaal café om met een groepje te borrelen, omdat iedereen elkaar ten minste kan verstaan. De kastelein is een uitmuntend gastheer en zijn tapkunst is onovertroffen.

Een relaxte barkeeper die nog weet hoe een biertje getapt dient te worden. In een schoon glas , met zorg bereid. Ambiance is uiterst relaxt. GEEN muziek. Kwaliteit van de geschonken wijn is hoog, zo ook bij de te verkrijgen borrelhapjes.

Sinds jaar een dag een thuis voor iedereen die van een café zonder muziek houdt!

Leuk zitje, met laatste zondag van iedere maand gezellige muziek.

Top cafe! Heerlijk perfect getapt bier en een aardige bartender. Sublieme bitterballen overigens.

Echt een oude bruine kroeg. Wel veel licht, geen muziek. Kroegeigenaar netjes in een witte blouse en stropdas. Wat een mooie vent!

Zaterdag 23 februari café van Weegen bezocht. Het is een café zoals een café hoort te zijn: een echte barman die het vak beheerst (zie je niet vaak meer tegenwoordig), perfect getapt bier etiket van het glas wordt naar je toe gedraaid, heel goede wijnen. Leuke in originele staat gehouden ruimte. Kortom een uitstekend café om meerdere keren te bezoeken!

Heerlijk Utregs. Waar genoegen. Je voelt je welkom.

Goed café! Prima gastheer! Top biertje! Domweg bezoeken!

Unieke kroeg. Je gaat jaren terug in de tijd bij binnenkomst. Geen muziek en een ijzersterke kastelein.

Bruiner dan dit gaat het niet worden. Er is geen reden om hier niet heen te gaan als je zin hebt in een biertje en een stukje ossenworst.

Verborgen Parel van de Utrechtse Horeca. Best getapte biertjes van de stad e.o. geserveerd door een echte Kastelein. Leuke mix van stamgasten en passanten. Altijd wel iemand waar je een praatje mee kan aanknopen.

Prachtig café, ouderwets utrechts, en de beste schuimkraag van de stad!
