It is the first snack bar in my life that is closed on Sundays; I think it's a ridiculous idea.

Great fries, tasty satay sauce. Friendly owner. Unfortunately, no toilets.

Good old-fashioned fries at a prime location! The atmosphere is nice, the prices are fair, and the small outdoor terrace is the perfect place to enjoy your fries. An absolute favorite on Noordereiland.

This snack bar has just got a new owner and is now going to improve quality following my criticism of the "weer hap" and the meatball. The ingredient list: A "snack bar ball" dissected If you look at the label of a standard, cheaper meatball, you often see a "list of suspects" that determine the taste and texture: The meat: Usually a mix of pork and beef. In cheaper variants, you often see a high proportion of mechanically separated meat or "meat protein" (added proteins from other offal) to increase the volume. The "fillers" (Binding agents): Wheat flour/Breadcrumbs: This absorbs moisture and gives the ball volume without the need for meat. Soy proteins: These are used as a cheap "meat substitute" or filler. They have a neutral taste and a texture that blends well with the meat. Potato starch: Serves purely as a binding agent to keep the ball in shape in a warm bain-marie. Additives (The flavorings): E621 (Monosodium glutamate): The 'flavor enhancer' that gives the ball that typical, salty "savory" taste we associate with fast food. Stabilizers and phosphates: These ensure that the added water (which makes up a significant weight of the ball) does not run out of the ball during heating. Colorings: Sometimes colorings (such as caramel color) are added to give the ball a "baked" appearance, while in reality it has been steamed or deep-fried in an industrial oven. How do you recognize a "real" ball? If you are looking for quality and want to avoid industrial "stuffed balls," you can pay attention to the following when reading the label: Meat percentage: Ideally, a real meatball should consist of at least 80-90% meat. As soon as this percentage drops below 70%, fillers are used extensively. The ingredient list: The shorter the list, the better. A quality meatball contains: Ground meat (beef/pork), breadcrumbs (or egg/breadcrumbs), salt, pepper, onion, and perhaps some mustard or nutmeg. If there are names on the packaging that you cannot pronounce (such as various stabilizers or hydrolyzed vegetable protein), it is an industrial product. The structure: Real meatballs have an irregular shape and a visible fibrous structure. Industrial meatballs are often perfectly round and have a uniform, almost "smooth" texture. The alternative Given your background and interest in quality, the disappointment with current snack bar quality is quite logical. The only way to truly recapture the "old-fashioned" taste is to either seek out a better butcher (who often still makes meatballs with pure meat, egg, and breadcrumbs), or to make them yourself in larger quantities and freeze them. A homemade meatball with 100% beef (or a mix), real onion, and a little bit of fresh breadcrumbs tastes inherently different from the "soy-wheat separator" variants from the major producers. Do you ever make meatballs yourself, or are you specifically looking for a high-quality alternative that you can buy ready-made?

Very friendly, and delicious food

Since the new owner took over the business (October 2025?), the quality has been top-notch again. The staff is friendly, and the restaurant is clean. Orders are processed quickly and correctly, and the food is delicious. They've also expanded their fries and snack selection to include some Asian meal options.

There have been new owners since October 2025. As a result, the quality of the food is very good again. They are very customer-friendly and the place looks clean again!

I always love walking down to this little snack bar for some nice fries and fried food and in the summer a nice little soft serve ice cream. The lady that works there is also super nice as well!

It was very bad, staff are rude, mean, and just don't seem to want to be there, I can understand that the food is not edible, for the Muslims, don't eat here! They put pork and stuff in the same oil as the 'halal'.

Previously they were very good, the previous owners were friendly, food was good, they were friendly and provided good service. I have only experienced horrible situations in the past period!! Very often it goes well when ordering it is repeated if this is correct then you come home, THEY STILL FORGET HALF! When you bring this up they claim that you still have to pay for it!!! BAD SERVICE, NOT FRIENDLY. Fries are limp, snacks are overcooked. I recommend only ordering food and picking it up when you see the old owner, because 9 out of 10 times poor service is provided with the new owner, she is also not customer friendly and cannot admit mistakes or offer products with a discount or offering for free after she has made a mistake.

Tried Smily again after a long time. My experience is that they forget something every time. I always ask for a war with outings. That's quite a difficult one for them. After asking 3 times if there are really any onions this time and a yeshaaaaa from them, I had high hopes. Well, when I got home I had peanut fries without onions. The checkout also went exceptionally well, they were overcharged. No, I wanted to try smily one more time, but enough is enough. The old smiley was perfect, with these new owners it is doom and gloom. Unfortunately

Staff friendly. Food was not tasty. Fries taste weird and smell old.

Not as good as a few years ago. Good example of shrinkflation. You get fewer fries for more money and the quality also seems to have decreased somewhat. Too bad, because I find it difficult to imagine that the amount of fries really makes the significant difference in costs for them.

De gehaktbal was meer een ronde knakworst, de pindasaus komt ook geen pinda aan te pas en de patat mag minder bleek.

De locale snackbar. Lekker als je een ongezonde hap wilt. Service en bereiding is van goede kwaliteit. Milkshake is wat minder.

Kipkerrie broodjes zijn een aanrader, aardig personeel!

Zeer gemiddelde snackbar, niet meer wat het is geweest. Personeel is traag en niet geïnteresseerd. Porties zijn minder groot dan een paar jaar geleden, en de pindasaus smaakte licht aangebrand.

Alles frisch was frisch sein kann, soweit man das für das obligatorisch verwendete Convenience Food sagen kann, dazu alles sauber, alles superlecker: seit Jahrzehnten gleichbleibend gute Qualität.
