Nice concept and the food was good.

I normally only post 5-star reviews, but this place disappointed me several times. The location is great next to the waterside, but the service is terrible. All of the times I waited more than 40 minutes just to order a coffee. It didn't seem like the staff cared a great deal for hospitality and the quality of the food/coffee. Too bad, because the place has so much potential.

Don't eat here after an afternoon at Prison Escape. The set menu is mediocre and limited. Also, I haven't yet been able to decipher the chemical composition of the dessert.

Three of us were on the terrace on a relatively quiet day. The staff were friendly but still overworked so it took a bit of time to get things. However, there were no mistakes and the staff responded to our requests kindly. The menu is small and not great for vegetarians, food is available but unimaginative (don't bother if you are vegan). The atmosphere is fine but I'm not really the target market.

We were here for a birthday lunch and had a wonderful afternoon. The relaxed atmosphere and the cozy camping theme immediately create a nice, casual ambiance. The staff was friendly, welcoming, and attentive to the guests. The lunch was delicious: fresh ingredients, flavorful dishes, and beautifully presented. The drinks and coffee were also well taken care of. It was an ideal place to celebrate a birthday together, without it feeling rushed or crowded. All in all, a cozy location with tasty food, good service, and a pleasant atmosphere. We enjoyed ourselves and will definitely come back again. Highly recommended!

I hosted drinks for colleagues here. Everything was well organized: drinks and snacks were continuously replenished. It was lovely on the outdoor terrace. They really went the extra mile to make it a success. And they succeeded. The food afterwards was also fine.

Perfect for the kids since it has toys. The vista of the river right outside is quite calming if you want to sit in the outdoors and grab a book to read. I see alot of people working on their laptop. Staff is quite friendly too. One of my favorite spots in the city!

Started off nicely with drinks on the terrace. It was busy, but the staff were friendly. The spot is great, right by the water with large parasols so you can sit comfortably in the shade. Afterwards, we ate inside; the satay was delicious and there was plenty of it. The other food looked good too, I will definitely come back to try something different!

Ouch. What a grumpy employee who forbade us from sitting on the empty terrace with 8 people during our group outing. When we made the reservation, we were assured that we could sit both outside and inside. There was more than enough room outside; our group consisted of 22 people, half of whom stayed inside. So really, plenty of room outside, everything was empty. When I politely asked if she would also consider reasonableness, she walked away. Maybe it was a bad day, because normally this is a top spot, but unfortunately, this time it was the complete opposite.

Yesterday, we were at Camping De Gansport with a group for a pub quiz. Unfortunately, we found the attitude of a team leader to be particularly unfriendly. We had written our order on a piece of paper. When a waiter came by, someone pointed it out, and the waiter took the note away himself. No one asked him to do that, so we thought it was fine. Later, the same thing happened again. After 15 minutes, a team leader came by and said in an unpleasant tone that this was really not allowed and that we shouldn't do it like that again. Even after we explained how it had gone, the tone did not change. As a result, we felt like we were being a nuisance, even though we just wanted to order something. Unfortunately, this ruined the atmosphere.

Last Saturday, we celebrated our birthday party at Camping Ganspoort with drinks & a BBQ! Thanks to the staff who took excellent care of us in tropical temperatures. Erik and Annette

Went out for dinner with friends by invitation. Beautiful location by the water. However, the service was unfriendly. I ordered a hamburger; it had a strange taste that I couldn't place. Sauce or spoiled meat? I was told the refrigerator had broken down earlier that week. Later in the evening, I became ill and contracted food poisoning.

Absolute worst service I’ve had in my 15 years in the Netherlands. An openly hostile server who couldn’t care less and totally ruined a family reunion we had with family from overseas joining. I’d actively avoid this place, it won’t be around much longer - I’d bet on it.

Seems like a cool place but we left after 50 minutes of being ignored rather than having dinner there. We made a reservation, showed up on time then were seated, then our server actively ignored me making eye contact and trying to indicate we were ready to order. Maybe on a day with moderate temps we could have waited it out, but not even being able to order a pitcher of water in the middle of a heat wave was a little too much to wait out so we headed out for greener pastures

Had a great brainstorming session at this location, including lunch. Anything is possible with good consultation. They are also very helpful in thinking along with you, which is always nice!

Food and atmosphere are fine, and prices are also reasonable for this location in the city. However, service could be better. The wait staff walks around very little on the terrace, meaning you frequently have to wait to order something (even though the restaurant/terrace was practically empty).

Nice place. The weather was bad, so we sat inside, and it was Tuesday, so nice and quiet. There were eight of us without a reservation, but that wasn't a problem at all. They did serve the last round at 9:30, though, even though the official opening hours are until 11.

A fun Grand Cafe that has nothing to do with a campsite. Located by the water where you can sit comfortably. Games, books, an old-fashioned arcade machine, as well as a pool table are available. Lunch was a nice mix of vegan, vegetarian, and meat options.

I always love coming here to relax with a delicious cappuccino and read a book or enjoy a unique berry lemonade in the sun. I also enjoy chatting with the staff.

I have been coming here ever since they first opened. This was always one of my favorite spots in Utrecht. Always a good time. But: over the past 2 years, the quality of both the food and the service has deteriorated ENORMOUSLY. The menu has been more or less the same for years. Boring. Greasy burgers, few good vegetarian dishes, and very little variety. That is bad enough, but the service is not good. It has happened three times in the past year that I ate there with my son, and one of us received his dish while the other sat waiting. Only when the other has (almost) finished his plate is the other's meal finally served. The wait staff nowadays is flat and uninterested, the cocktails/spritzes are very weak (my limoncello spritz looked like sickly sweet lemonade without bubbles), and the ventilation is increasingly poor, causing your clothes to stink afterwards. In short, our sweet, lovely Ganspoort is no longer what it used to be, and that is a terrible shame.

Unfortunately, my email was never answered, so I hereby want to warn anyone who is ever thinking of organizing a party at Camping Ganspoort. On Saturday, February 3rd, we celebrated our party at Camping Ganspoort. We had a great time (thanks to the fun group of friends), but we really should have celebrated it at a different location. Upon arrival, I spoke with a lady who told me that she was unaware that people were coming to DJ. I told her that we had agreed on this with the manager beforehand and that it was allowed, provided we took the volume into account for the upstairs neighbors. For the evening, we had enlisted two friends, both of whom were going to DJ—at an appropriate volume. We had brought our own speakers for this purpose. It was unclear to us for a moment whether we could play the music through Camping Ganspoort's speakers or through our own. When we checked this with an employee (just to be sure), we were told that we could not use our own speakers. Which is strange, since we had previously been told that we could play music through our own speakers. Eventually, we were able to play the music on our own speakers, adjusting the volume in good consultation. At the beginning of the evening, a number of guests noticed that the lighting was quite bright. We asked if it was possible to dim the lights slightly for the sake of coziness, to which we were told—again, not very politely—that the employee couldn't find the button but would go and ask. For the entire evening, there was only one employee at the bar, serving drinks for the restaurant as well as our drinks for the party guests. Aside from the fact that we understand it can get busy, we do not understand why there is only one person behind the bar when a group of 50 people is expected. This resulted in guests having to wait a long time (20-30 minutes) for a drink and an employee who served us not very politely all evening, something that was noticed by more guests. Finally, we were able to order snacks four times during the evening. During the second round, we were told that the fryer was closed. If we had known this in advance (or had been informed when the fryer was closing), we would have ordered these snacks sooner. What we are trying to say with this email (which has been replaced by a review due to a lack of response) is that we are disappointed with how the evening was organized. We had a fair number of drinks and had already set a reasonable bar budget in advance. We had envisioned a different evening at Camping Ganspoort and hoped that we would be truly taken care of. Camping Ganspoort really has potential to be a nice place, but due to the poor service and lack of customer friendliness, it is not a place I would recommend to anyone.

After escaping from the Pieter Baan Center with colleagues, we went here for dinner. We had the After-show dinner. This 3-course menu was delicious and offered something for every taste. The staff was friendly, and you don't have to wait long for your order. Definitely recommended as a place to end the day on a pleasant note.

A light and spacious cafe with a great view and play corner, ideal for easy weekday mornings or remote working. Friendly and attentive staff, simple interior and affordable coffee.

Convenient location, but unfriendly and incompetent staff. This despite them making a considerable amount of money from us. I found the food expensive for the quality. The burger and fries were definitely not worth 20 euros. I wouldn't go there again. Update: Based on our reviews, someone from our group was contacted (read: four missed calls and an email). It's nice of them to ask what went wrong. After an honest answer, Camping Ganspoort simply stopped replying to the email. I find that unprofessional. However, in just two days, there are suddenly 8 new positive reviews, including one that makes rather insulting remarks about a group of 20 people (we're not a hockey team, by the way). That seems rather coincidental. Could they have asked people to leave positive reviews to cover up our negative ones, instead of taking our feedback to heart? We are friendly and respectful people who were celebrating two birthdays in a normal way. If there's something positive to report, we'll do it. Do your job well and treat us with respect? Then you won't get any negative reviews.

Lovely spot on the water. Great atmosphere. I was there once for a bingo night, which was really well-organized. A real plus is that they're very careful about allergens.

Two of us ate here last week. The food was absolutely delicious. The only downside was the hockey team. They thought they owned the place. They were downright rude to the staff and had a very annoying presence. Childish behavior from a group of adults and toddlers. Nevertheless, the staff did their best to make the other guests feel comfortable in their difficult situation. We will definitely be back. It's a short distance from Vaartsche Rijn station, making it a quick getaway to the city. And with a terrace by the water, we think it would be perfect in good weather.

Lousy service with a large group

We were dining with a large group, and from the very first moment, the service was downright terrible. A waitress was constantly passive-aggressive and snappy towards our group when we asked normal questions, like, "Can we order a drink?" This was met with, among other things, eye-rolling, sighing, or being sternly spoken to like a dog on command. We were shown to our table, and before we even sat down, we were told they needed the tables so they could give them away when it got busy. With 20-plus guests coming to eat and drink a lot, I think you can make a lot of money from your staff. It's understandable that you want to generate revenue, but the tone was very clear that we, as a group, were a burden. When we asked another waitress how to split the bill, we were then told that we, as guests, couldn't expect the staff to bill us individually because they would be waiting too long at the cash register. There are so many other ways to break this news or find a solution. For example, by suggesting not to settle the bill during rush hour or that perhaps 10 receipts could be issued instead of 20. Fortunately, the evening was still somewhat bearable because there was a sweet young man serving who was making up for a lot of things for his colleagues. I don't expect staff to kiss the floor I walk on, but I do expect respect from people. We didn't tip the waiter, which could easily have been €200 with the size of our group. With that attitude, you're stealing from your own wallet. The waiter's attitude really put a bad taste in our evening and made our guests feel uncomfortable as well. Therefore, I wouldn't recommend eating or drinking here. Convenient location, but that's about it.

We had a company event here and as much as it went quite smooth, making the food took way too long. The staff was nice and friendly but didnt seem to be interested in anything we wanted to arrange… the space for all of us was a bit tight as we also had an activity before the dinner and it wasnt the most convinient as all other visitors were passing inbetween all of us… overall nice experience but not sure if it is good for groups bigger than 20 people and we were 40.

Every Monday is games night, and it's a lot of fun, with some really fun games to try out! The food and drinks are also excellent, especially the carrot cake!

What a fantastic place! I stumbled upon this place while walking through town. We had a delicious lunch with a fantastic Ganspoort Camping burger. The staff were friendly and attentive and willing to go the extra mile. We came here during the Christmas season, even decorated for the festive season.

Great place for a drink and a snack, but food: no way. I had a burger, which is quite something if you can't make something out of it. Bone-dry fried meat, questionable BBQ sauce, and absolutely no success. The service was excellent, and the pub quizzes are always a hit. But I won't be doing the food again anytime soon.

A great place in a unique part of Utrecht, within walking distance of the city center. The terrace by the water is a pleasant place to relax, and the interior is also spacious and bright. Best restaurant ever (after Vandervalk) So, on to Binc and Lauren

We live near this place, so we come regularly. After several instances of poor service, I wanted to leave feedback. The last few times we've been here, we often had to go to the waiter ourselves, sometimes multiple times. They certainly don't feel rushed. One time, a waitress was taking extensive photos and forgot we were there. They also often forget when we ask for water, for example. There are plenty of other examples. It's a really nice place in terms of peace and quiet and the terrace, but the service could definitely be better.

Note: don't come here if you have children with you; only adults are welcome in this café! This morning we came to Camping Ganspoort because I'd heard it was child-friendly. I have no idea where that comes from; my experience has been the opposite. Perhaps that reputation stems from a time when there was a different owner or different service. I was playing foosball with my children, and a waiter came over to ask if we could stop because there were freelancers working on their laptops in the café and they wanted to work in silence. This seems completely upside down to me. Why would they put a foosball table there if it wasn't allowed? If someone wants to work in silence, they shouldn't be working in a café, but at home or in the office. Why do you tell café visitors to be quiet instead of pointing out to freelancers that they're in a café, not an office? Aside from what the staff said about the foosball table, I also found the service extremely rude and unfriendly. I've rarely experienced anything like this. They said they offered table service, but I never saw anyone at my table. After waiting 10 minutes, I went to the bar myself to order. I was surprised they didn't ask me to pick up my order at the bar myself, as they didn't seem like they wanted to work. They were also gossiping loudly and extensively about customers on the terrace, which didn't come across as friendly or professional. I came here for lunch, but left after a drink. For me, this was a once-in-a-lifetime experience. If you have children with you, do yourself a favor and go to a place where children are welcome, not a freelancer's cafe with a camping theme and rude service.

**Avoid This Place – Rude Staff and Terrible Experience** We came here for a company event, and I have to say it was a genuinely unpleasant experience from start to finish. We started off inside with some of the bland sandwiches . After ordering a beer, we decided to enjoy the rare Dutch sunshine by sitting outside. Not long after, a waitress came out to scold us for moving tables, claiming they couldn’t keep track of orders if we weren’t inside. That already felt unnecessarily rigid and unfriendly. When we tried to order a second drink, we were told the tab was closed. I even offered to pay for my own drink, but the waitress refused, saying we had to stay sober for the next team-building event. While that would’ve been understandable if communicated clearly, what happened next was completely uncalled for: right in front of us, she turned around and started yelling "what the f-word" (the actual word) at her colleagues, clearly referring to us. It was loud, aggressive, and incredibly unprofessional. The staff—especially the waitress with black wavy hair—were not welcoming, not accommodating, and made us feel like we were a burden for simply trying to enjoy a drink outside. No one deserves to be treated this way. If you’re looking for a relaxing, respectful place to gather with colleagues or friends, i highly recommend you avoid this place at all costs. There are plenty of better venues nearby where you’ll be treated with basic courtesy.

The price is expensive considering the quality balance.

From 2018 to 2022, we were regulars when we lived in the neighborhood. We remember it as a cozy neighborhood spot, with not-so-fancy food at reasonable prices. Today we happened to stop by for lunch, and the experience was disappointing. The prices have gone up dramatically (the lunch burger has gone from around €13 to €20 in just a few years), and then you get a burger without any love, with plastic cheese and half a strip of bacon that falls apart on your plate. The pleasant atmosphere remains the same, to be honest. A rather disappointing experience; we probably won't be back. Life goes on!
