Werkspoorcafé in Wijk 01 West

We had a reservation on a Sunday but unfortunately there was no one there except an older man smoking inside. We wanted to sit outside but there were no umbrellas either. So we decided to go somewhere else. Host was also not very welcoming.

First of all, I found it very noisy. It was hard to hear each other. We had made a reservation, but they didn't seem to know about it. The food had also run out, so we couldn't choose much from the menu. When we were initially waiting, it took a very long time for someone to come to us, and we also waited five minutes to pay for our drinks. We left after two drinks and didn't eat there again.

It was ok. Staff attentive, food ok. Ok this moment lacked a nice vibe. Maybe again soon?

The food is simple and okay. There's a decent selection of beers. Unfortunately, no real Utrecht beers.

Als je op de website kijkt van het Werkspoor café dan ziet het er allemaal gelikt uit met 2500 producten van eigen bodem… Blablabla… Maar schijn bedriegt dat blijkt maar weer!! Je moet het eten namelijk wel klaar kunnen maken!! Deze eigenaar had net zo goed een schoenenzaak kunnen beginnen, daar heeft hij waarschijnlijk ook geen gevoel voor!! Een restaurant is van een andere categorie en dat merk je hier aan alles!! Het duurd lang, het is er smoezelig (vies) en het eten is gewoon niet lekker!! Mij zien ze hier nooit meer en als ik de recensies lees van anderen dan ben ik niet de enige!!

Nice place to sit! The drinks are fine, but the food/menu is very disappointing. Service is sometimes a bit sloppy.

Sad affair the food! Vega burger was a mealy fried disc with a fried onion ring and a dollop of mayo from a large bucket. Fries limp and tasteless. In short, minimal input, maximum profit is the approach here!

What a dramatic deterioration of this beautiful location. The new owner didn't even bother to clean. Everything is dirty, the tables, chairs and toilet. The food is prefab from the wholesaler. Only the shape of the garnish differs, everything tastes the same from the fryer. It is an Amsterdam chain and then (haha how funny in Utrecht) they have Amsterdam names like the Bijlmerplank, but apparently it is too much effort to serve something like Amsterdam outings. The low point was that the excellent service declined the tip because they had to hand it in to the boss. Wasn't this not allowed for years?

Donderdag 19 september met een stel collega’s wezen bieren en eten. Wat een leuke plek, en wat doet het personeel verschrikkelijk hun best om je hier gast te voelen. Om 18.00 uur gereserveerd en eerst een heerlijk biertje buiten gedronken, nadat het wat kouder werd konden we zonder probleem onze avond binnen voortzetten. We hebben heerlijk gegeten, het toetje was ook erg lekker. Ik weeg je kan op veel plaatsen lekker eten, maar hier maakt de combinatie met het geweldige personeel ECHT het verschil. Ik kom zeker nog eens terug!

Had a lovely drink after the VR

Potentially a fantastic location, but the service is extremely slow. Cold drinks are served quickly, and you are regularly asked if you would like a refill. But taking and serving the food - both appetizers and main courses - takes forever. This while the terrace was only one third full. Coffee was served cold (after 25 minutes) after walking to the bar to ask where it was. Food is very basic & salads were not available on the very balmy summer evening. Unfortunately, not recommended.

Preparing your order on time is a big problem! After 20 minutes the message came that the "receipt" of our order had been lost in the kitchen. We then had to ask three more times for our food, which finally arrived 1.5 hours after our order. Without apologies, nothing! Then, as a gesture, 2 beers were removed from the bill when paying and 1 main course was charged double, so that is also a bad thing. In short, a nice meal prior to a great performance turned into 1.5 hours of annoyance and gulping down food. NEVER AGAIN for us. If there had been another dining option in the immediate area, we would have left earlier.

The service was super relaxed, the terrace and the place are fantastic, the coffee was really good but the food was so uninspired and too expensive that I won't be eating here again anytime soon. It's a real shame, this is potentially an absolute top spot. Come on chef, kitchen team go for it!

Nice tent, but unfortunately poor service. Several times sat for a long time without drinks.

On July 12, my colleagues and I had drinks at the Werkspoorcafé. The boy behind the bar was a nice guy, food and drinks were fine. When we paid the bill, we discovered that we had paid the wrong (higher) bill. This could not be corrected on the spot, we had to email about it. Then the trouble started, Merijn's service is harsh and angry. He is unfriendly, does not keep appointments and reacts smartly when he is reminded that we still have not received our money. We kept receiving 'coming' messages, but then nothing happened. We have not received any compensation and, after more than a month of emailing, calling and texting, we finally received the excess amount back today with the message 'next time, check first before asking for the boss'. OK Merijn, good story. Based on this experience and lousy service, I do not recommend Werkspoorcafe and think a negative review is appropriate. In any case, we won't be back.

New owner on the site of the former De Leckere brewery café. Kleiburg: Amsterdam craft beer in Utrecht. And also a De Leckere beer on tap: is it my fault that it no longer tastes like it used to? Friendly service, better menu than before, beer prices on the high side (5.25 for a tap).

Lekkere simpele kaart, grote porties en vriendelijk personeel. Een hele aangename middag gehad met een mooi uitzicht

Very nice place with nice people

Kipsatë was slecht, 2 stokjes dun en te droog doorgebakken vlees. Friet was vet.... Daar komt bij dat men de bestelling vooraf niet goed had verwerkt, waardoor het een kwartier lster dan de groep geserveerd werd. Wel mooie locatie voor een groep, erg jammer dus van de slechte kwaliteit.

My experience at this restaurant was disappointing. I was celebrating my birthday and came with a gift voucher, but it turned out to be invalid due to the bankruptcy, without prior warning. The gift voucher says “werkspoorcafe” and this corresponds to the name of the restaurant. Contacting the designated person did not yield a solution and my email was not responded to. I feel ripped off and not taken seriously. I won't go here again. Edit 01/03/24: I have received the contact details of one of your colleagues through your colleagues. I had brief contact with this, unfortunately without an explanation/solution or response.

Mijn ervaring in dit restaurant was teleurstellend. Ik vierde mijn verjaardag en kwam met een cadeaubon, maar die bleek niet geldig vanwege het faillissement, zonder voorafgaande waarschuwing. Er staat namelijk “werkspoorcafe” op de cadeaubon en dit komt overeen met de naam van het restaurant. Het contact met de aangewezen persoon leverde geen oplossing op en op mijn mail wordt niet gereageerd. Ik voel me opgelicht en niet serieus genomen. Ik zal hier niet meer terugkomen.

Went there for a VR Escape room but didn't stay long. Rating is based on that short stay but the place itself looks good, service was friendly and the VR experience was very nice. Sure after a few more visits the rating could get higher

Unfortunately, this fantastic place does not deliver the same quality food. Suddenly a number of dishes are not available and what you do get is not only not refined, but it is even clumsily prepared and essential ingredients (salad) are missing. Without asking, the missing ingredients were replaced with something else. The service was friendly enough and offered a drink to compensate. After all, the bill was incorrect, but this was acknowledged and promptly corrected. I don't know who runs this location, but keep it up.....it won't work.

You shouldn't be here if you are in a hurry, if you want something to eat before an appointment. They only pass it on to the kitchen 45 minutes later with an empty case.

Meat was cold, burgers way too raw. Meat sent back took quite a while before it came back warmed up in an oven and was then very dry. Afterwards very neatly arranged by the owner. Unfortunately he was not present that evening. Otherwise it wouldn't have happened.

Update 23/1: We were contacted quickly and adequately as stated below. Our complaint was taken seriously and we were compensated for this. Although the experience was not good, the follow-up was good. Got sick after eating here. Food was raw and cold. Wouldn't go here.

Great place. God food and great beers. They have beer flight/test plate with beer. Nice location.

This cafe has recently changed ownership. The location is a bit outside the center. But it is a super nice place to have a drink. The collection of beers is fantastic (tip: taste the different beers). The staff are very friendly and attentive. The menu still needs some work. The spare ribs would be better if they were varnished. The fries and salad served with it were delicious. In terms of desserts, the choice is somewhat limited to cheesecake that is actually quarter cake, apple pie or a scoop of ice cream. Combine your drinks with a visit to the VR room upstairs and you have a really fun evening!

Nice place and good food. New owner is Kleiburg, a beer brewer from Amsterdam. This place deserves a bit more credit.

Cool industrial place, had lunch. Choice of two or three sandwiches with toppings of your choice. nice idea, but those rolls are about two centimeters in diameter. Very nice, Werkspoorcafe, but really not enough for a lunch of 12.50. just skip it until they have a new lunch menu

Eten was niet super. Appeltaart kwam uit de diepvries. Je kon wel leuk zitten en de service was wel attent.

Het was vrij druk toen we binnenkwamen maar geen reden om 20m op 2 koffie te moeten wachten. De espr.macch. werd gebracht als een latte macch. en de serveerster beweerde zelfs dat dat eigenlijk hetzelfde was. Redelijk snel opgelost maar daarna duurde het dik een half uur voor het eten (enigzins drassige patat met kip) werd gebracht terwijl inmiddels de hele tent vrijwel leeg was Biertjes en koffie waren lekker, anders was dit 1 ster geweest.

Gaat de laatste tijd rap achteruit. Voor corona top tent. Speciaal biertje was 3,50, goede hamburger. In corona periode ging kwaliteit personeel achteruit. Nu krijg je een half lauwe Makro burger (50 in een doos diepvries) geserveerd met een slecht getapt biertje voor 5,75/stuk. We verbaasden ons erover dat het zo rustig was, maar weten inmiddels waarom.

Mooi terras, vriendelijke bediening. Goede borrelplank. Maar waarom het De Leckere bier hier duidelijk duurder is dan bij andere horeca vind ik opvallend.

Voor de zoveelste keer bestelling niet volledig doorgekomen in de keuken. Personeel ongeïnteresseerd en vooraf betalen. Was voor COVID een leuke plek maar is weinig van over….

Lekker bier maar het duurt een uur voordat je bier wordt geserveerd

Location was nice, especially during summer as it overlooks water. Food was okay, maybe a bot pricey for what it was (20e for chicken burger). Since they make their own beer, that was definitely nice. But the service.... Omg. So painfully slow and not attentive. They take orders at the table; we picked up our own menus since they were definitely not bringing that and it still took them 30min to pick our order. There were tables that just left because no one was bothering to come after 30-40min. We ordered coffee and a dessert, it took them 40min to bring black coffee. Not sure if the view or their beer is worth the wait and frustration.

Hadden een nieuwe kaart… Deze stond op een kladblok, was niet echt veel. (Oude kaart stond nog op tafel. Bierglas, vaasje, was niet echt schoon. Maar het eten was goed, bier van de tap (pils) top. Locatie is goed en het was lekker warm binnen. Prijzen voor het eten zijn nog ouderwets 👍👍

Leuke locatie en mooie bierkeuze. Ruim half uur gewacht op 6 bitterballen, dat kan beter.

They serve their own beers here, some of them are hit, some are miss. When it comes to food it's basically burgers or spareribs with a side of soggy fries. I've had the Caesar salad myself. It was bad. It was weird with pulled chicken and it simply didn't fill enough, I had to eat a full meal when I got home. Staff is friendly but incompetent. If you've matured beyond eating hamburgers and drinking craft beers this place is a bit of a downer. If beers and burgers are your thing this place is exactly for you, but again could be better. Best redeeming quality is a nice terrace.

Op de eerste verdieping een reünie van een studiegroep gehad. Lekkere hapjes en een goeie (vegetarische) burger. Grote keuze van bier. Het alcoholarme dat ik dronk was echt lekker. Leuke plek om nog eens naartoe te gaan.

Gezellige plek op een redelijke fietsafstand van centraal. De spareribs waren goed en de eigen biertjes (Blond en Tripel) pasten goed

Goed bier, mooi uitzicht, vriendelijk personeel. Niet naar toe gaan hoor, anders is het straks altijd vol.

Leuke plek en inrichting, lekker bier en op de bediening was ook niks aan te merken maar het eten was echt ondermaats. We dachten eerst dat onze kip burgers vega burgers waren maar dit was niet het geval. Waarschijnlijk kwamen ze uit de vriezer, het smaakte namelijk verre van vers. Over de kipsaté was men ook niet te spreken.

Was hier erg gezellig! Heerlijk bier en lekker eten tegen een betaalbare prijs. Vriendelijke service en een mooie plek.
