We have had some truly delicious meals here a few times in the past. Unfortunately, today was actually quite bad. The different dishes tasted the same, were bland, and I think important spices were forgotten. The ingredients were not distributed well. A real shame.

I simply wanted to order a tall blonde beer with my meal when the waitress stared at me before asking for my ID. My short stature and lack of facial hair do not justify this blatant lack of professionalism. I often experience this kind of judgment and I find it unacceptable. If you need to ask for ID, you ask without staring at the person…

Cannot leave a review. Was there yesterday with a friend. Reserved online for 12:15, we stood in front of a closed door, very disappointed.

The tacos al pastor and hibiscus lemonade were delicious. Loved the pork belly and blue corn tortilla for the tacos. Lemonade was not too sweet.

Came here with two friends and they were super accommodating to allow us to eat outside. We had the nachos, beef tacos and chicken tacos. They were all really delicious!! I had the spicy pineapple marg and it was one of the best margs I’ve had. Would recommend

If you’re expecting a legit Mexican place in ams this AINT IT. Don’t do it. For example the salsa is literally tomato puree.

Really good stop for modern Mexican food, easy to find right on the main road. We ordered beef nachos to share, along with chicken tacos and mushroom tacos, the mushroom option being a solid vegan choice. Everything was really good, the nachos especially stood out, generous serving and worth the price. The space itself has a nice, modern Mexican vibe to it, and staff were friendly and spoke English, which made ordering easy. On price, we paid under thirty euros total, sharing the nachos between us, good value for the quality and portion size. Best for anyone wanting solid Mexican food with vegan-friendly options in a modern, welcoming setting.

Everything was great until it came to paying the bill. They asked us if we'd booked through the Fork. We hadn't, we had booked directly. They explained to us that if we had booked via the fork, we would have had 50% off the food, but instead we get the pleasure of paying full price. This obviously left a really bad taste in our mouths (pun fully intended) - no one likes feeling as if they've just been ripped off.

The food was delicious. For the first round, we ordered 3 dishes for 2 people; for the second round, another 3 dishes, and finished with cappuccino and dessert. We sat outside on the terrace because the weather was wonderfully warm. The waitresses paid no attention to the guests; you really had to get their attention if you wanted to order or ask something. Furthermore, we ordered water with our meal and received a bottle of water that was absolutely not cold for such a hot summer day, so we had to ask for ice cubes separately.

The staff was very friendly. Almost everyone spoke Spanish. There was a Colombian guy at the bar who served my girlfriend and me very kindly. The girls who worked with him were also super friendly. The service was 10/10. The drinks were also 10/10. The food was delicious. Although perhaps not exactly like the tacos in Mexico, everything was still very tasty.

Other reviews were accurate. We were the only customers in the restaurant, and yet it still took 50 minutes for the food to arrive. The service wasn't unfriendly, but it wasn't helpful either. The food was okay value for money with the discount, but at the full menu price, it would be ridiculous. A burrito for 15 euros that is about half a main course with two small bowls of sauce. And the tacos for 12.50 for two, and even my girlfriend, who normally doesn't finish a main course, easily ate four. It certainly wasn't bad, by the way, but it's not something I would recommend anyone go there for the food. The Margarita cocktail was very good, though.

I came in just before the kitchen closed after a long journey. I was very well received, was given some great recommendations and the food I brought back to my hotel was really good! I had tacos and arepas.

Food was okay. Delicious but I would not recommend this place. In general to expensive for that what you get. Our tacos were very dry and for 6 tacos they gave us just a little bit of sauces. Will not return. Service was nice

Excellent meal followed by well-prepared homemade cocktails. There were a few communication difficulties, but the manager addressed the problem immediately.

visited january this year, our server was so lovely and the food was amazing! would highly recommend the Taco Caliente TLX (have been thinking about booking a trip back to Amsterdam for that taco alone!), the only thing we were unsure of is if they had soft drinks or not as they were not on the drinks menu and we were both too shy to ask 🤣 just to note as my partner does not drink but that is on us for not asking! it was quite busy the night we went (thursday around 7pm) so would maybe book ahead :) can’t wait to revisit 😊

So cheap for what you can get and how good it is! We had a birria burrito, torta caliente, ceviche classico and 4 cocktails in total. They were all top notch! In total we paid less then 60 euro. The Latin hours (12-17h) are awesome and a steal! Also, the service of Fernando was really good! :)

This is truly a great place to dine for a long evening. Delicious dishes, surprising beers, and very friendly service. The dishes are flavorful, have a nice bite, and look amazing! We ordered two desserts to share, but the banana cake was so good that we ordered another one. A really nice place that I will definitely visit again. Highly recommended!

Great experience, good food and excellent service!

Caliente provided the catering for our Mexican garden party for 35-40 people in a more than excellent manner. We were constantly surprised and spoiled with a continuous stream of tasty, authentic Latin American appetizers – including vegetarian options. Caliente also took care of the drinks and even the colorful decorations, all in consultation and fully in accordance with our wishes. They took everything off our hands and turned it into a successful and atmospheric garden party.

Very bad experience, service nowhere to be found. Very uninterested and busy with many things but not with us. It is a real shame that we also saw three tables leave after waiting for 10 minutes.

Good, although we discovered there's more at lunch than at dinner, which is a shame. We would have liked to try more, but they have different menus. We ordered the Mexican quesadillas, three of which were small but good; the Mexican rice, a small portion, good, although I wouldn't have put the cilantro in it, but it depends on your taste; the arepas with meat, a little spicy but good!, two small ones; and the patatas bravas. Well, the portions weren't huge and the prices were a bit high, but overall we had a good time. We'll see if we can go back for lunch these days while we're in Amsterdam on vacation. I recommend stopping by anyway. I recommend booking, especially with TheFork. They sometimes offer discounts, so we paid half price!

What a wonderful discovery! The coconut daiquiri was incredible, and the tapas were an explosion of flavors. The service was top-notch, and our French waitress even gave us a list of her favorite places... In short, you get the picture, I recommend it 1000%! Thank you so much!

Been to Cantina Caliente with my wife and had a great experience. The food and service were excellent, and the cocktails were surprisingly good for such an affordable price. The tacos were outstanding and the tostadas were very tasty. The only small downside for us was the white corn in the ceviche, which wasn’t quite to our liking. Overall, a fantastic place and we will definitely be back.

Bohemian Mexican, Lively atmosphere in heart of University of Amsterdam

If you want delicious Mexican food in Amsterdam, Cantina Caliente is the place to be. My wife also needs to eat gluten-free, and at Cantina Caliente, they have a wide selection, with staff who are very knowledgeable about what's acceptable and what's not.

Great place! The food is amazing (especially the tacos de pescado) and they have delicious cocktails. They also often have happy hour. The atmosphere is great and the service is friendly; I always find it adds to the atmosphere when the staff speaks Spanish. A really nice place to have a meal or drinks.

Had two drinks and two lunches for 35 euros. Drinks were ok and lunches were fine (not huge portions like we Americans are used to!). Nice quiet atmosphere and would definitely recommend.

I have rarely eaten such delicious and authentic Mexican food as here at Cantina Caliente in Amsterdam. Friendly service and you can – at least in winter – come without a reservation, which is also great.

Caliente Food is just on another level. They’ve been part of our experiences as Food Partners and every single time they show up, they kill it. Not only with the flavors, but with their whole setup, the vibe, the way they treat people, and how they adapt to every Latin concept we throw at them. And Cantina Caliente as a customer? Insane. Some of the best ceviches in the city and unreal tacos al pastor. Whether you go to their cantina or try them at one of our events, do yourself a favor and order the Taco TLX. Trust me, you’ll thank me later.

Super delicious food, cozy atmosphere, and great service. We were with a large group, and the food arrived quickly and at the same time. It was truly delicious! It's also great that they serve small dishes—if you're not too hungry, sometimes one is enough. You can always order more. I'll definitely be back!
