Super delicious food, cozy atmosphere, and great service. We were with a large group, and the food arrived quickly and at the same time. It was truly delicious! It's also great that they serve small dishes—if you're not too hungry, sometimes one is enough. You can always order more. I'll definitely be back!

I have had an ok meal at Cantina Caliente before, however today my experience was appalling. I went in to get take out with my friend who is celiac, and after double checking that they could make the burrito gluten free and use separate pans, we left and after she took a bite realised to was not gluten free, we retuned and they made her another dish and this time we checked with the chef and despite the server guaranteeing it was safe the chef was extremely rude and said he cannot use separate pans. This place claims to cater for allergies including gluten free on their menu however after my friend suffering an allergic reaction and rude service here we will not be returning.

Place doesn’t know about allergies and advertises falsely gluten free food although that is not provided. Staff is not adequately informed either. As a celiac they assured me a wheat burrito was gluten free and I got glutened

The food is delicious and has a great Latin flavor. The tacos and ceviches were my favorites. They also have a wide variety of cocktails, house-made drinks, and more. Highly recommended!

Cantina Caliente is such a fun and welcoming place. The atmosphere is vibrant and full of energy, and the staff are super friendly and attentive. The food was absolutely delicious,full of flavour, fresh, and beautifully prepared. Every dish felt like comfort with a little kick. I came to this restaurant in February this year, and I was really disappointed, but yesterday I thought - well, let’s give it another chance, since some friends wanted to try mexican food. Well, I can assure you, it’s really an Amsterdam experience: tasteless and cold food, microscopical portions, and unjustified prices. First let’s start with the fact that we had to wait around 45 minutes for the food - with not a single communication from the staff. When it arrived, a complete disappointment. 16 Euros for 150 grams of picanha, with no side dishes (and I come from Brazil and I can confirm, this is ridiculous). 12,50 for arepas (which we first checked online and thought it would be a great portion) that turned out to be newborn sized. The ceviche was completely tasteless. I ordered some tostadas and in the menu they mentioned that they came with avocado and feta cheese, but I would not expect it to come with 4 little stripes of avocado and probably 5 grams of feta cheese. My boyfriend did like his tacos, but, as he said, he could have done that much better at home (and he is Dutch, btw). I understand that tourists coming from Europe might think that this is interesting food, since it tastes slightly different, but as someone who comes from latin america, this is almost an offense. Kudos for the drinks, especially during happy hour, they are indeed really good.

Portions were very small, the shared menu for two was quite small and not very tasty. A few dishes tasted of lemon and nothing else. It was a real shame how bad the menu was.

Cantina Caliente is my go-to Latin restaurant in Amsterdam. The food is always super fresh and delicious, all the servers are kind and professional and the atmosphere is beautiful. Uff and especially their cocktails are so so good! And now for the lunch deal they offer, it’s also such a good deal to get some quick fresh lunch. Every single time I went, I had a great experience. Thanks cantina team!

Loren, Martina and Eleonora are fantastic waitresses. We felt at home from the first second. The food was fantastic, I recommend the beef tacos and the mezcalita was the best one I’ve ever had. Hugely genuinely recommend.

Sunday 2 November 2025. 10PM. The food was not good but the real issue and what makes me write this review is that the redhead waitress insulted me in my face. I went in the toilet to wash my hands after eating and there was someone in the WC that had the door broken. I saw someone was at the WC and held the door with her hands, I did not disturb anyone just washed my hands and went back to my table. The minute after I see the red haired waitress come out of the toilet and insult me with her colleagues: “La *** *** lavándose las manos”. I can’t write insults in the review but she said nasty words about me washing my hands and screaming and acting pissed off. I was shocked. She clearly had issues so I didn’t want to say anything to her. We left but I feel shocked at this customer treatment. AVOID!

We ate here before going to the cinema next door. It was a pleasant surprise. Amazing food, good wines, nice atmosphere and excellent service. With a lot of vegetarian and vegan options. We'll be back soon.

It was delicious, portions of tacos are great, and overall the dishes are well served, and are quite filling. I do saw that for the totopos they were using Dorito's bag nacho chips, instead of the different types of chips - blue corn, beet, and just corn chips. So the ratio was 60/40 of bag nacho chips vs homemade ones.

Went here relatively late (21:30), but was no problem. They have plenty of space and a great menu. The fish tacos and cheese Quesadillas were my highlight. The staff was friendly but could be more attentive. We waited relatively long till to pay. Still, had an amazing time here!

When you order (vegan) nachos at a Mexican restaurant, you expect at least guacamole and a bit of soul. What we got? Overpriced vegetable chips that the oat milk elite wouldn't even get out of bed for. When we tried to order in Dutch, we were met with an "English please" message. Speaking English wasn't a problem, but a smile would have done wonders. The margaritas? They were so good that we almost reconciled ourselves to the nacho trauma.

We opted for the shared tasting menu. It was quite pricey for what we got. It came in two parts, and we had to wait quite a while for the second part, which had already become quite sticky and lukewarm. They also forgot our drinks, even though the restaurant was half empty.

Good food, well made cocktails, and friendly atmosphere. Nothing groundbreaking, but overall enjoyable. The standout was the banana bread dessert which absolutely terrific.

Nice little Mexican place. A little pricey for the food quantity they served. For the Taco, they should give 3 tacos for that price. The chocolate cake is really small for 10 euros.

Don't call it "Cantina" , it 's a bar with something to eat!!!!! 16 € fon 2 small tacos it's not a dinner (main courses) it's something you can eat while you are drinking .

After reading all the positive reviews, I had a very disappointing experience here last Sunday. We waited for a long time for the waiter to seat us in a restaurant with only 4-5 occupied tables. Then, we waited a long time to order food, and finally, we waited almost an hour for our food, even though we had ordered just nachos and two burritos. And nachos that can be prepared in 5 minutes came even after the main dish. And I wish I could say the waiting time was worth it, but unfortunately, not. The burritos were bland and contained 90% rice, not even enough beans. We were really hungry after a long wait, but still managed to eat only half of it. My friend and I were really disappointed, and we will not come back.

Yummy yummy yummy, I've got love in my tummy. Had the classic ceviche, empanadas, tostada with chicken tinga and Esquites. Everything was fresh delicious and made our mouth happy. Staff was lovely as well. A definite "Come back soon" for us

It's a nice restaurant that's open late. It seems like they're regularly developing their menu, and their efforts to make it taste good are very positive. When I went that day, the ceviche and other tacos were all delicious, but the fish tacos had a bit of a fishy smell, which was disappointing. However, I think that's just my food. I was satisfied with the food and service overall.

This place was perfect in every way, 10/10. We ventured to Cantina Caliente after showing up at a cafe that closed earlier than we realized. I am happy it turned out that way because this food was incredible! Sitting outside as it got dark out and the streetlights came on was the perfect ambience (many outside tables), the service was great, and the drinks were top notch. We ordered Vegan Ceviche (so unique, really delightful!), Birria tacos (best I have ever had), Empanadas, Esquites (salty but so good), and the true star of the show, Brazilian Beef (next level delicious, don't miss out!). I wish I had a photo of it as it was served but didn't think to take one until half way through when I knew I would end up leaving a review. Hoping I have a reason to come back to Amsterdam and eat here again!

I ordered on a Monday around 15, shouldn’t be a busy time at all for a restaurant. My order took 1.5 hours to arrive, which was disappointing. Birria tacos were great, carnitas were good.

We had the nachos "I want it all" with pork instead of beef (not on the menu) and it was very tasty! The meat was tasty and the plate was well filled with fresh ingredients. Definitely recommended!

Some staffs are nice, but usually their service is very rude. I don’t know why in that sense they still ask for tips. I once brought my own cup with me, because it was in the middle of the work. A staff came and asked me to put my cup in my bag, the reason is they sell coffee, so I couldnt bring my own cup and let others see it. Regardless I ordered drink already. How ridiculous. Luckily you don’t sell clothes, otherwise I have to come without a body covering?

The food here is tasty, the cocktails are also recommended. The staff is friendly. The atmosphere is friendly and it is a good spot for drinks and vibes. The elote, chicken tacos and the margarita is recommended. They rarely have Sangaria but when in season, it is a must try.

This cantina is a gem! We loved it so much we went twice. The food is fresh and delicious. Great outdoor patio. The staff are all very nice and answered our questions. Its a perfect blend of food. Highly recommend.

We tried there tacos at De Rollende Kuekans and really enjoyed them along with the coconut and lime drink. When we went back we were very disappointed by the tacos - they lacked flavour, sauce, spice and they didn’t even have the drink. Very disappointed ☹️

I have been here a couple of times and the food is pretty average. Last week I came in for a glass of tap water and a coke standing at the bar and they charged me 7,75€. Ridiculous.

A number of dishes served lukewarm, some tasty and others mediocre. Long wait before you can place a second order, coffee stays on the bar for a long time for someone to bring it to your table....

After waiting for 30min to place an order I left so I can’t tell anything about the food, but the service was awful.

We were traveling and wanted to grab a quick bite by where we were staying. Cantina Caliente was across the street and excellent - what dumb luck for us. Excellent food that is fresh and so tasty. Lovely cocktails and fun, easy going staff. Highly recommend for local's and visitors alike!

I wouldn’t believe any review that calls this place anything short of perfect. Food is absolutely fantastic, especially the ceviche is unabashedly in your face and delicious. One of the best spots in Amsterdam. Perhaps not the cheapest but worth every cent and more.

The location and the service is nice, but the food lacked flavour and used what seemed to be 'off' aubergines in the dish that spoiled my appetite. I'm sure it's nice for a drink, but I wouldn't go there for food.

The food was ‘OK’. We usually order from here and for the first time visited the restaurant in person. While nothing was bad or unsatisfactory, we were left a little underwhelmed by mediocrity. The waitress was wearing a sweater that was completely full of pet hair, parts of which was flying around, onto the table. Strange experience.

Passed by during my late lunchbreak and noted a sign that said "lunch, €5,-". They had just begun to wrap it up when I asked for information about the lunch deal; regardless, the fellow who worked there was very kind and told me that he still had some sandwiches left and what my options where. Than after making my choice he quickly wrapped up my order to eat on the go, and even added an additional sandwhich free of charge to bring home. Beyond this beautiful surprise, the sandwhich was huge & an absolutely delicious package of well-balanced flavor. 10 out of 10, I'm sure to drop by for lunch again.

I really liked the atmosphere, the music and the waiter was very friendly. Upon entering, no one greeted us until the waiter approached us. The food is very delicious, I just wish they gave the option of not putting beans in the tacos (it is not what is normally done with tacos) and I would love them to have more traditional desserts on the menu. It would be amazing if they added cochinita tacos and horchata water to the menu in the future.
