What a great service and so super nice, keep it up for years

We were there today at 5:15 PM but left at 6:50 PM without having received any food. There are two people in the kitchen and one lady serving and handling takeaway. That is far too few; hopefully, it will be better on weekdays outside of holiday periods, but we won't be going back. We also heard that takeaway takes at least an hour. The interior is also very old, but that wasn't that important to us.

Update 2026: We have been here about 10 times now and it is one of our favorites. Everyone in Voorthuizen knows it takes a long time. But everyone is good-natured and the takeaway is always busy. The hostess knows us; it is simply entertaining to watch her at work. Turn a blind eye and you have a great evening and even get a doggy bag to take home. For two people, you can easily eat and drink for less than 50 euros. Recommended: Peking Duck. Delicious. And the pot of Chinese tea is always made with real tea leaves. 2025: Actually, almost nothing went right here, but it was still a good time. 1 lady handles both the takeaway and the restaurant. 1 or 2 cooks in the kitchen. That actually provides entertainment rather than annoyance. It always takes a long time, so be prepared for that! But the food is excellent and plentiful. The lady is a very nice person, though. Definitely worth an extra star. More than fine in terms of price.

Had to wait almost 2 hours for the food, which was a huge disappointment! The chicken in black bean sauce was extremely salty. The babipangang had a terrible texture.

We had a delicious meal with the whole family today. My parents come here often. Delicious old-school Chinese food, without too much salt. For my father, the owner brought special extra spicy sambal. The prawn crackers were warm and freshly fried for us, and everything that was deep-fried was clearly made in-house and the tastiest thing I have ever eaten. Portions are huge, and the friendly owner, who loves to chat, already had containers ready for us to take the rest home. The interior is cozy Chinese, just like in restaurants of the old days.

Sorry, but it wasn't tasty. The takeaway area already looked very unkempt with old, dirty items on the floor. It took another half hour, even though we had ordered by phone. All in all, not a good experience.

Mei-Wah is a really great place. Cozy and friendly staff and delicious food. The prices are good too. It combines well with a day out in Zeumeren.

As a resident of Voorthuizen, I am immensely proud of restaurant Mei-Wah and I love going there. The owner and staff are in the restaurant almost day and night. The Chinese-Indonesian restaurant Mei-Wah is an iconic institution in the village and the surrounding area. Yes, you can count on it: if you order, you will have to wait a while. Half an hour to an hour is normal. The number of orders is enormous, especially on weekends and during the summer months, and one to two cooks work in the kitchen. But those are precisely the moments when you can enjoy the owner's local Voorthuizen dialect alongside other customers in the restaurant. The food can be described as classic Chinese; I really enjoy what I order. Because these establishments are disappearing at a rapid pace, I can only hope that we, as residents of Voorthuizen and other summer guests, will be able to enjoy restaurant Mei-Wah for a while longer.

The decor is terrible and so is the food. Tried it twice and both times it was inedible. We’ll just drive to Barneveld; there is a really good Chinese takeaway there.

I always enjoy eating there; good prices and a nice atmosphere. Sometimes you have to wait a bit, but you are rewarded with a good plate of food.

It's taking way too long! We arrived at 5:00 PM and the main course wasn't served until 7:45 PM.

We ate here tonight, but this is a one-time thing. We arrived around 5:35 PM, and the tomato soup appetizer arrived at 6:10 PM. We waited so long, and the soup tasted nothing like tomato soup. The main course took an hour, and then we lost our appetite. The tipan babi pangang with oyster sauce was incredibly salty, and the nasi goreng mei wah was even saltier. We finally tasted a bit, paid, and left immediately, never to return. The takeout was quite busy; we were the only guests in the restaurant, which looked very messy. The food took a very long time to arrive, and the waitress was very busy talking and doing, constantly saying, "It'll be alright," but it wasn't! That evening, we had severe diarrhea and stomach aches from this Chinese restaurant, so NEVER again! One tip: go to a better Chinese restaurant, but not this one.

We were supposed to pick up our order at 7:00 PM. By 8:00 PM, the food still hadn't arrived; we sat there waiting for that entire time. When we asked how long it would take, they kept saying "just a little longer." At 8:15 PM, we finally got it. Unfortunately, the food was a disappointment. It wasn't good: too salty and not the classic flavor. This is truly the worst Chinese Indian restaurant I've ever ordered from.

The cleaning isn't good, the food is cold before it even reaches the table, the inventory is outdated, and the food tastes like it came from a factory (the taste is exactly the same every time, and even the more expensive dishes (tipang) lack any flavor). Furthermore, the owner dictates when you'll be dining instead of hiring extra staff. The customer is not king. Hygiene is also nonexistent. The restroom is disgusting. The carpet is sticky. They don't clean. When you call to place an order and agree that it will be ready at 6:00 PM, you have to wait an extra half hour for a bowl of noodles and a bowl of fou young hai. The wait time is sometimes an hour longer for pickup. This is absolutely terrible! Not customer-friendly.

The owner puts on a show every day for everyone who comes to pick up their order. And she's been doing it for decades...

Unfortunately, we were far too late to pick up our food. We were there to order at 6:30 PM and were told we would be called back. After more than an hour and a quarter, we called and were told it would take another 30 minutes. We thought that was way too long and went there. There was still someone waiting, and our order was just pushed back to the other side by the chef. We were given chocolates. At home, the soup was different from what we were used to in Zoetermeer, where we lived and worked happily for years. There was a very good Chinese restaurant there. The soup was quite filling and nice and hot. The rice and satay were lukewarm, so I took a few bites and no, I didn't want any more. My daughter had chicken with vegetables, also different from what we were used to and also lukewarm. My daughter had enough after one bite, and then it was ready for the green bin. I'll try the rice in the microwave tomorrow and if it doesn't work, it will also go in the green bin. So that was a one-time thing, but not again. Oh yes, our dog found the 2 The sausage slices were delicious, I hope she doesn't get sick from them tomorrow. Too bad it was close by, but we won't be going there again.

Although the restaurant looks a bit cluttered, the food is delicious. The price-quality ratio is surprisingly good, and the staff is friendly and knows how to connect with the crowd.

The meat on the menus was fine, but I found the chicken curry sauce salty, and the noodles were also salty. The black pepper sauce didn't even resemble black pepper. One person serves and one person in the kitchen. It could be a successful business if there was less interaction with customers and more and faster service. The wait time for food was terrible. They first brought the tipan chicken curry and 10 minutes later the noodles, which I found very salty. You got a lot for little. Four drinks and three menus cost 73 euros.

We called to see if there was room for eight people. It wasn't a problem, and we were seated right away. We drove over and sat in the messy room, as if our table had been quickly cleared and everything next to it had been dumped full of stuff, etc. Other guests arrived after us, and they were served first. The lady occasionally yelled at us to be patient when one of the children asked for chocolate milk after five minutes. When she was with us, we asked how long everything would take. She said it would be an hour before our food was ready. We politely declined and left, and she said to be honest if you want to leave. If you don't have time for your guests, be honest upfront; it would have saved us time! Especially with children.

The food is flavorful and fresh. The prices are low... Don't expect fine dining. The hostess is amusing, but she's on her own... Sometimes the wait is a bit longer than usual at any Chinese restaurant. But considering the price-quality ratio, minor imperfections are very forgivable.

Food is delicious, owner is very friendly, but everything takes a very long time here! I have the feeling that takeaway takes precedence over visitors to the restaurant itself.. The hostess indicates that it will take longer and apologizes... but waiting almost 2 hours for the main course is a long time! The restaurant area could also use some renovation... at least tidy up! There is a lot of rubbish on the frayed edges in the back. That looks dirty! Final food was very generous and option to take away what is left! And very cheap!

Actually you can't make more of this than GADVERDAMME! During a walk we passed this restaurant. We ordered 2 spring rolls from the very friendly hostess. We have never eaten such large and tasty spring rolls for a very low price.

Authentiek Chinees restaurant. Gastvrije en vriendelijke bediening die de wachttijd met een praatje toch leuk weet te maken. Heerlijk versbereid eten met volop vlees en groenten. Zeker voor herhaling vatbaar!

Het eten was lekker en goed verzorgd. We hebben alleen meer dan een uur gewacht op ons eten terwijl dat we vooraf onze bestelling hadden doorgegeven. En zo vele klanten met mij die ook zaten te wachten. Sommige kregen drankjes van de zaak, maar gingen dan met 3 biertjes op achter het stuur zitten. 😅 De verkoopster zat telkens hardop te puffen en kreunen en was erg direct naar klanten.

Goed eten, duurt een uur voor je kan eten ze moet alles alleen doen, het restaurant op zich is vies je blijft aan het tapijt plakken over het toilet maar niets zeggen.

Super restaurant wij haalen er vaak eten af . heerlijk eten we haalen er voor 2 personen het maandmenu 1 nasi en 1 bami menu eten er 2 dagen van !!!

Het eten is prima, maar ga hier niet heen als je geen geduld hebt. Gelukkig smakelijk kunnen lachen om de gastvrouw waardoor het wachten op drinken en eten iets minder erg was.

We hebben heerlijk gegeten! Er was 1 mevrouw die alles alleen deed, bediening, telefoon en afhalen vandaar dat we 2 uur hebben gewacht. Er waren mensen die weggingen omdat het veel te lang duurde!

ondanks alle slechte reviews toch afgelopen maandag een poging gewaagd, t eten was heerlijk we hebben genoten en wat is de mevrouw leuk achter de balie, echt een geweldig mens, wij komen zeker terug.

Super lekker gegeten met 5 personen. Heerlijke peking eend. Super lekkere mihoen en bami. Vriendelijke eigenares, tevens bediening. Redelijk laag geprijsd. Wij komen hier al jaren.

Wat een fantastisch aardige mevrouw achter de bali! Heerlijk eten en alleen de service is het geld al waard haha. Wij hebben genoten.

Probably the best Chinese restaurant I've been to in the Netherlands so far. Great food, fair amount for the price, and the waitress is a very friendly old lady. I strongly recommend dining in instead of getting take out.
