Chinees-Indisch restaurant 'Mei-Wah' in Wijk 55 Voorthuizen

The owner puts on a show every day for everyone who comes to pick up their order. And she's been doing it for decades...

Unfortunately, we were far too late to pick up our food. We were there to order at 6:30 PM and were told we would be called back. After more than an hour and a quarter, we called and were told it would take another 30 minutes. We thought that was way too long and went there. There was still someone waiting, and our order was just pushed back to the other side by the chef. We were given chocolates. At home, the soup was different from what we were used to in Zoetermeer, where we lived and worked happily for years. There was a very good Chinese restaurant there. The soup was quite filling and nice and hot. The rice and satay were lukewarm, so I took a few bites and no, I didn't want any more. My daughter had chicken with vegetables, also different from what we were used to and also lukewarm. My daughter had enough after one bite, and then it was ready for the green bin. I'll try the rice in the microwave tomorrow and if it doesn't work, it will also go in the green bin. So that was a one-time thing, but not again. Oh yes, our dog found the 2 The sausage slices were delicious, I hope she doesn't get sick from them tomorrow. Too bad it was close by, but we won't be going there again.

Although the restaurant looks a bit cluttered, the food is delicious. The price-quality ratio is surprisingly good, and the staff is friendly and knows how to connect with the crowd.

Not necessarily recommended. The food is okay. You won't find the crispy bits you'd expect from an Asian restaurant. The service is friendly but somewhat annoying. The ambiance is dated and not particularly clean. On the plus side, leftovers are packed up for takeaway.

The meat on the menus was fine, but I found the chicken curry sauce salty, and the noodles were also salty. The black pepper sauce didn't even resemble black pepper. One person serves and one person in the kitchen. It could be a successful business if there was less interaction with customers and more and faster service. The wait time for food was terrible. They first brought the tipan chicken curry and 10 minutes later the noodles, which I found very salty. You got a lot for little. Four drinks and three menus cost 73 euros.

It makes no sense, you made a reservation at 6:15 pm and at 7:30 pm you still have nothing, the only thing you hear throughout the whole place is busy busy, writing this when we haven't even had our food yet

We called to see if there was room for eight people. It wasn't a problem, and we were seated right away. We drove over and sat in the messy room, as if our table had been quickly cleared and everything next to it had been dumped full of stuff, etc. Other guests arrived after us, and they were served first. The lady occasionally yelled at us to be patient when one of the children asked for chocolate milk after five minutes. When she was with us, we asked how long everything would take. She said it would be an hour before our food was ready. We politely declined and left, and she said to be honest if you want to leave. If you don't have time for your guests, be honest upfront; it would have saved us time! Especially with children.

The food is flavorful and fresh. The prices are low... Don't expect fine dining. The hostess is amusing, but she's on her own... Sometimes the wait is a bit longer than usual at any Chinese restaurant. But considering the price-quality ratio, minor imperfections are very forgivable.

A truly special restaurant, with fantastic food and an exceptional hostess! Experience it for yourself; take your time!

Food is delicious, owner is very friendly, but everything takes a very long time here! I have the feeling that takeaway takes precedence over visitors to the restaurant itself.. The hostess indicates that it will take longer and apologizes... but waiting almost 2 hours for the main course is a long time! The restaurant area could also use some renovation... at least tidy up! There is a lot of rubbish on the frayed edges in the back. That looks dirty! Final food was very generous and option to take away what is left! And very cheap!

Actually you can't make more of this than GADVERDAMME! Unbelievable, there is little taste to the food, the soup is not what I am used to, very sour or at least a lot of tomato and not the taste you would expect. The Foe Yong hai was tasteless as was the bami goreng mei wah. Never before have I experienced that almost the entire order, except for the noodles itself, has gone into the garbage bin. Unbelievable that this 'restaurant' can exist in this day and age. You are snubbed by the woman who takes the order. I asked for the amount of 8 adults but was told it was for an entire orphanage. I understood from other guards that the food would be fantastic. Okay, then we'll just wait an hour for our simple order. If you ask how long it will take, you will be told that it is completely normal to have to wait a long time. Ok, sorry to ask... it's that you already paid, otherwise I would have left immediately. And when you finally have your food; horrible. Everything from one package. Bah! We were there on holiday so I will never be there again anyway, but people be warned....

A great discovery on the way back to Germany. Price-performance is unique, for little money you can get generous portions that are freshly and tasty prepared. Haven't been there after years due to moving. Got it now and it was delicious. Really the best Chinese there is, but I grew up with it... service is different and you have to be patient. Locals all call in their orders. I would have done that too, but I still had to wait 30 minutes.

Cleaning is not done properly, the food is cold before it reaches the table, dated inventory and the taste of the food seems to come from a factory (the taste is exactly the same every time and even the luxury dishes (tipang) contain no taste whatsoever). In addition, the owner decides when you come to eat, instead of hiring extra people. The customer is not king. There is also no hygiene. The toilet is too gross for words. The carpet sticks on all sides. They don't clean. If you call to place an order and agree that the food will be ready at 6:00 PM, you can wait another half hour for a bowl of noodles and a bowl of fou young hai. Not customer friendly.

Authentiek Chinees restaurant. Gastvrije en vriendelijke bediening die de wachttijd met een praatje toch leuk weet te maken. Heerlijk versbereid eten met volop vlees en groenten. Zeker voor herhaling vatbaar!

Het eten was lekker en goed verzorgd. We hebben alleen meer dan een uur gewacht op ons eten terwijl dat we vooraf onze bestelling hadden doorgegeven. En zo vele klanten met mij die ook zaten te wachten. Sommige kregen drankjes van de zaak, maar gingen dan met 3 biertjes op achter het stuur zitten. 😅 De verkoopster zat telkens hardop te puffen en kreunen en was erg direct naar klanten.

Goed eten, duurt een uur voor je kan eten ze moet alles alleen doen, het restaurant op zich is vies je blijft aan het tapijt plakken over het toilet maar niets zeggen.

Het eten duurde erlangs ongeveer 2 uur we kregen wel gratis drankje aangeboden het eten was prima

Super restaurant wij haalen er vaak eten af . heerlijk eten we haalen er voor 2 personen het maandmenu 1 nasi en 1 bami menu eten er 2 dagen van !!!

We hebben heerlijk gegeten! Er was 1 mevrouw die alles alleen deed, bediening, telefoon en afhalen vandaar dat we 2 uur hebben gewacht. Er waren mensen die weggingen omdat het veel te lang duurde!

Het eten is prima, maar ga hier niet heen als je geen geduld hebt. Gelukkig smakelijk kunnen lachen om de gastvrouw waardoor het wachten op drinken en eten iets minder erg was.

ondanks alle slechte reviews toch afgelopen maandag een poging gewaagd, t eten was heerlijk we hebben genoten en wat is de mevrouw leuk achter de balie, echt een geweldig mens, wij komen zeker terug.

Super lekker gegeten met 5 personen. Heerlijke peking eend. Super lekkere mihoen en bami. Vriendelijke eigenares, tevens bediening. Redelijk laag geprijsd. Wij komen hier al jaren.

Wat een fantastisch aardige mevrouw achter de bali! Heerlijk eten en alleen de service is het geld al waard haha. Wij hebben genoten.

Als je geen haast hebt op dagen dat 'iedereen' liever niet zelf eten bereidt is dit een prima afhaal punt! Ik kom hier graag.

Probably the best Chinese restaurant I've been to in the Netherlands so far. Great food, fair amount for the price, and the waitress is a very friendly old lady. I strongly recommend dining in instead of getting take out.

Lekker eten voor een schappelijke prijs met super lieve gastvrouw.

Eten wat je bij een Chinees kunt verwachten. Hele aardige en vriendelijke bediening. Wel erg veel keuze op de menukaart.

Heerlijk Chinese rijsttafel gegeten! Er wordt met veel verse groenten en lekkere kruiden gewerkt in plaats van zout. Het vlees is van goede kwaliteit, met name de kip en de garnalen smaakten fantastisch. De nasi en bami zijn rijk gevuld met stukjes ham en reepjes groenten. Royale porties en de mogelijkheid om (eventueel) restant mee naar huis te nemen. De eigenaresse is altijd vrolijk, en babbelt gezellig. Deze zaak bestaat al 50 jaar en het interieur is volgens mij sinds die tijd niet veranderd. Echt een aanrader.

Wat een gezellige sfeer bij het afhalen. Heb voor de mensen die zoeken naar de menulijst deze maar even op de foto gezet.

Prachtige setting: mooie zaak met originele accenten uit de jaren 70, zoals de fineer lambrisering die zo typerend is voor Chinese restaurants uit die tijd. Zo mooi dat je bijna zou vergeten met hoeveel liefde het eten is bereid en geserveerd! Vijf sterren en hier nog een tip: op tijd reserveren!
