Great place for tacos and Mexican food. Coming from Los Angeles, I had my expectations low on what I was about to try. The food was really good and really close to Mexican food. I had the octopus tostada and ribeye taco with a glass of Horchata. Highly recommend Only downside is they don't accept American Express.

Probably one of the best Mexican restaurants in Amsterdam. Quite expensive and far from the city centre, but well worth the commute and the price. Great service and great range of tasty alcohol free cocktails. This is a must if you have the time!

When you need to walk over to a waitress to get a menu after sitting for 10 minutes then you know it’s going to be an average experience. Food - lower quality than expected. Salty. Slow. Tough. Reasonably generous serving of the polpo though. A sunny evening and probably too many bookings, but still - don’t have 40 covers when the kitchen evidently cannot cope with those numbers. We were seated for 1hr and 50mins and had three dishes. We drank a bottle of wine between the soft shell crab and the pork. That is how bad the organisation was. (Or good I suppose if you want to sell more natural wine) Edit: Coba called me to apologise for the service which they agreed was poor on the evening we visited. I still leave the overall rating the same but removed some needless snarkiness in my review.

Food tasty, service friendly but really forgot to bring everything, portions expensive and small, we went to get some fries at t Smikkelhoekje afterwards.

Excellent food, especially loved the tacos de nopal and de barbacoa. Although prices were on the high side considering the restaurant is in an industrial area and you annoyingly have to make an actual down payment to reserve a table, food, atmosphere and service are all outstanding, very attentive!

I haven't even found such good tacos in Mexico!

A hype that falls short. I heard it be described as one of the best Mexican places in Amsterdam. Guacamole and tortilla chips were good, but it’s the overall price that really brings down the experience - 15 euros for a single, small taco! The filling was okay but the tortilla bread was flavorless and dry. I’ve been to many other Mexican restaurants, where I feel like they actually try to bring something different, at Coba it just felt like there was no real passion.

It is always a pleasure to come back to Coba. The ambience is amazing, and the food is generally an explosion of flavours, creative and bold. One thing we always think is that Coba could offer a tasting menu option. For example, a fixed price where you get a curated selection of tacos and dishes, possibly with pairing options. I think that would make the whole experience feel even more elevated. This time we had the classic ceviche, which was great as always. The fish itself was very good, although I felt there was a bit too much sauce at the bottom, and I would have loved to taste the fish a little more. The octopus taco is still great, although yesterday it felt slightly dry. The taco that surprised us the most was the cactus one. The mix of textures and flavours was amazing, and for me it was the best taco of the evening. The crab taco was the only one that felt a bit disappointing. I personally preferred the previous version, which was fried and had squid ink - and maybe yuzu or something similar? This new version reminded me more of eating chicken, so it did not feel as special. We also had the pork with pineapple. The flavour combination was very good, but the presentation and structure could have been better. It felt like the ingredients were put together in a way that did not fully support the flavours or the eating experience. That said, we still love this place, both in winter and summer. It is definitely expensive, but you can also feel that they are always trying to improve. I also appreciate that the prices seem to have remained quite stable for a while, instead of increasing constantly. Overall, Coba remains a special place 💛💛💛

Broken booking system with no email confirmation meant had no idea when booked. Restaurant refused to refund me deposit. Booking was broken twice in a row. You can count me out of ever returning for overpriced tacos

Really bad service. Bar personnel was rude and the chairs outside cheap quality and unstable. For the prices you pay here I find it unacceptable.

Very good tacos by Amsterdam standards. 5* for the tostada ceviche with sea urchin mayo, but the soft-shell crab taco deserves only 2*: the batter was very thick and greasy, and you could barely taste the crab. It almost ruined the experience. Luckily, the rest of the dishes made up for it, especially the vegetarian cactus taco. Very good cocktails and a delicious (though expensive) michelada. The service is great too! P.S. They also accept walk-ins for the bar area.

We visit Coba several times a year and are always very enthusiastic. Now that some negative reviews have been appearing lately, we really wanted to share our experience. We always find the service here to be incredibly cordial and warm. The staff are happy to think along with you and really look at what is possible, which contributes to a lovely evening for us every time. Yes, the prices are indeed not Taco Bell. But in our opinion, you are paying for quality, craftsmanship, and a special experience here. As lovers of Mexican cuisine, we find Coba truly unique, especially on Dutch soil. We are more than happy to drive 45 minutes for this, even though there are several Mexican restaurants in the city where we live. That really says enough for us.

Food and servive are excellent. Feels great to have a cozy spot with a piece of great mexican flavors in Amsterdam. From the menu, the taco de Gaonera and tostada de ceviche have a very special place now!

It's a shame I can't give it less, the servers are very friendly and the place is very pretty BUT it's absurd to sell such meager portions for such high prices!!! It feels like a rip-off, for €15 you get a tiny taco and you leave starving! It's a disgrace

Cute restaurant, delicious food and fast service. A bit pricey but good food.

Not recommended. I honestly struggle to understand how places like this can even exist. The food is okay and the waiters are very kind. But the whole concept feels completely wrong. One tiny taco costs around €15, and you’re advised to order 4–5 tacos per person. That means €50–60 per person drinks excluded for very average-quality tacos (less than that you will still be hungry). On top of that, you have to: * pay €20 per person in advance just to reserve * finish within 2 hours because they need the table back * sit on stools * accept dishes arriving in random order because of the “shared dining” concept * and even eat without cutlery because “it’s finger food”. The entire experience feels designed around maximizing the restaurant’s convenience rather than the customer’s comfort. Not worth it.

The taco’s are tasty but not breathtaking and very pricy for what you get. The service is really nice and the inside looks super cosy, so it’s a shame about the price of the tacos.

We ate here after finally managing to score a reservation, because you simply can't get in without a booking! The cocktails were really tasty! But then again, for that price and volume, you can expect that :) What really took my breath away: €15 for one taco… I had to check if there were any gold flakes inside. Fortunately, some are well-filled, like the ceviche (our favorite), but the one with rib-eye could have had a bit more of a “wow” factor for that price. Also something to get used to: they don't have forks, only spoons. That led to a bit of a search for exactly how we were supposed to eat 😅 In the end, we spent about €120 for 4 drinks, 5/6 tacos, and a dessert, which wasn't too bad in a way… but two tacos for €15 would have made my inner accountant a lot happier ;)

As a Mexican that has been outside of Mexico for over a decade I can tell you this place is absolutely amazing the food is great and it's a good modern twist on traditional flavours. The vegan menu is absolutely delicious, I am reading reviews that people complain about the portion sizes being small but the tacos on the tostadas have a lot of filling. The desserts were great. And the staff was lovely and kind. 10/10

I am sorry for the two stars but it was way too expensive. Don’t come hungry :( the cocktails are half glasses with two huge ice cubes for 15-16€. However, the service was excellent and fast. The vibe also super fun and felt like a trip to Mexico. We had a great evening overall.

We had a delicious meal last night with the four of us. We enjoyed the Mexican atmosphere and the good food. However, two remarks: - The stools are not comfortable for an evening of dining. - The ventilation is insufficient. My clothes smell quite strongly of food.

The BEST tacos I’ve ever had outside of Mexico. They are a little stingy on the guacamole but other than that the food was EXCELLENT. This is fancy Mexican food. 2 people for food and 2 x cocktails 2 x beers was €160 Highly recommend booking in advance.

Loved it!! Everything was so tasty, the staff was super friendly, the atmosphere was amazing. Best restaurant I've been to in a while! Felt like the food offered a really authentic experience! And everything was glutenfree naturally so that was great with my gluten sensitivity!

Expectations were high due to all the social media hype, but unfortunately, we were quite disappointed. We were seated at what felt like a children's table with stools instead of proper chairs. Even a personalized menu was too much to ask, as we had to share it. For a place with these prices and a certain ambiance, you'd expect a bit more comfort and service. Speaking of the prices: €15 for one taco is simply out of proportion. Amsterdam gentrification at its finest. Furthermore, it took so long for each round of food to be served that it almost felt like each taco was made of gold. With a group of five, we ended up with a bill of almost €500. For that price, you expect quality, speed, and service. As compensation for the long wait, something "on the house" was supposed to be provided, but that didn't happen either. All in all: high expectations, low delivery. Unfortunately, a disappointing experience.

We went here for dinner. Food was ok. Cocktails were good. Service was ok but overall nothing was amazing and for that everything was super pricey. Especially the “shared dining” concept that’s so popular in Amsterdam doesn’t really work for tacos for me.. you still have to have your own taco. It’s also a bit weird that some come as one piece, some come as two pieces which leads to confusion during ordering with the waiters because they always have to check back how many times you want to order a dish. They do have some vegetarian options but they’re quite bland and all use the same ingredient ( mushrooms ) with no protein. So after your tiny portions you’re still left hungry and in a pickle of being hungry but not wanting to spend another 15€ for one taco. When I asked if I could change a liquor in a cocktail to a different one that wasn’t possible. Would not come back because it was just way too much money for what you get. And we didn’t even order the recommend amount of pieces and still spent a lot of money.

Nice restaurant with good food but too expensive

It was an amazing birthday dinner for my boyfriend. We had dinner with 7 friends and I really enjoyed the food. Be prepared to sit on low stools, which is fine and cozy. The service was friendly, but there were some mishaps. It was a busy Friday night so we completely understood.

I have never eaten tacos this good. Even after weeks in Guatemala and Mexico.

Best Mexican food in the North. Still excellent. Delicious food and drinks again. This time, besides the chevice and the pulpo, the crab was also highly recommended. Unfortunately, the tequila wasn't as nicely seasoned with all the extras as last time. Definitely recommended.

Great food but we got pretty much pushed out the door at 2330 while it should close at midnight. After spending 10 euros per taco I would expect we can at least finish our drink in peace

I can say that the Tacos al Pastor where absolutely amazing, I really had the feeling I was in México eating tacos. I ordered so e tostadas too, which I normally love to eat but they were to me very special in a way I'm not used to, like gourmet or something like that, I was expecting something more common. If you are up too trying something gourmet or fusion, I don't know how is it called in México anymore, this is the place to eat tostadas! If you are looking for the best tacos al pastor ever, don't hesitate to come here and enjoy. Don't forget to put lime and order a bit of salt for every bite 😉. Yes, the price is a bit high but the tacos are worth it 😋.

Food was very nice, the spicyness was perfect for me. The quesadilla was super! We ate at the bar and the connection the stuff made was very nice and friendly. The music good. We both had a cocktail that not really met our expectations. But the Mexican beer did the job. Staff very fast and hardworking so keep up the good work

A very welcoming atmosphere, great service and authentic delicious food. We had the tostada with urchin mayonnaise and ceviche which blew us both away. The tostada with pulpo was Smokey, harty and warm with tender octopus and a deep herbal blend of spices. Portions were large and very filling also due to the quality of the produce used. We unfortunately only had space left for the taco suerdo ( beef brisket) which was amazing. Only regret was that we couldn’t try more tacos because we were completely full. The cocktails were of another level! Highly recommend the Guerra ! Thank you for a great night, we are going back next week!

Good atmosphere and ok food, but way way way overpriced given the portions and location (an ugly road in northern amsterdam with literally nothing around but ugly buildings). It's above average tapas you're eating, but still tapas they are. Not coming back, sorry.

Very good tacos at a high price point, 16 euros for 2 tacos. If I had to rate this place on only their food I would give them 5 stars but given the price that would come down to 4. The service was actually good, they brought the food quickly, were attentive and even brought some sparklers as it was my girlfriend's birthday. But what brought it down completely was the way the staff behaved when paying the bill. The waitress brought the machine to pay with card, she set it in front of me with tipping suggestions of 10-20% and starred at me with a fake smile the whole time as if this was going to pressure me to tipp her more. This aggressive practice reminded me of the states and completely ruined my otherwise very nice meal. I would have tipped her if she had not tried to pressure me to. Will not be coming back here any time soon but I can admit they have good tacos.

A cozy place with a nice decor; the food was generally OK, but not great, and the quesadilla was unfortunately really bad. Several things also went wrong when taking our order; for example, they didn't properly communicate that a tostado needed to be without peanuts due to a nut allergy, and we received too many portions (some of which we still had to pay for). All in all, I don't think we'll be back, and I agree with other reviews that it's overpriced for what you get.

Look. Our experience wasn't great. It started with the seating, which was uncomfortable: very low and small wall couches, and mini chairs without back support. We felt that the food was very expensive compared to its size and quality. The tacos were nice, but you pay almost €15 for 2 small tacos. Even though they were delicious, they weren't the €15 kind of delicious. The worst part was the mole rosa desert. Coba tries to go for experimental and that is commendable, but this was absolutely not the way to do it. The waitress who took our orders was very nice though, compliments to her.

If you've ever had real Mexican food, don't go to this place. It's expensive and there's very little in the way. They call it "fine dining," but after spending a fortune, we unfortunately had to look for another restaurant in the area to satisfy our hunger. Another thing to note is that it took them 45 minutes to make us a quesadilla and four tacos. That said, the place is very nice and cozy. Despite everything, we won't be back.

The food is far away from authentic tacos, small portions and way overpriced. There’s a huge gap between the overpriced meals and the interior of the restaurant. The furniture looks old and secondhand, and the sits were not comfortable. It’s like walking into the cheapest budget restaurant in South America but being charged like you’re eating premium food. Beer selection? Just one Mexican beer, and of course, it’s overpriced too. Even the girl who helped us said, “Portions are small, so you might want to order more.” No, gracias señorita!

This was our first time in Noord, and a local gave us some great dining tips. Coba was one of them, and what a fantastic recommendation! We made a reservation, as it's very popular! The decor perfectly suits this neighborhood and Mexico. It's easy to chat, the atmosphere is great, and the staff goes above and beyond to ensure you have a fantastic evening. The menu is very well-organized, with high-quality and flavorful tacos for two or a party of one hard taco. You eat these in rounds, depending on your appetite. And sharing is highly recommended! The flavors are surprising and pure! Combined with the extensive selection of the much more complex Tequila counterpart (I've forgotten the name), which the bartender thoroughly smelled and explained, the delicious Mexican mix of cold tomato juice with salsa mix, lime, olives, a herb rim on the glass, and Mexican beer in a bottle, the experience was complete!

I personally love interacting with the staff, so this was such a lovely experience (special thanks to the guy with the coolest frog tattoo!). every server was super kind and attentive. the food was amazing, genuinely one of the best taco's and tostadas I have ever had. the cocktails are also a must try. every item on the menu had a hint of classic flavours with a super creative twist. will definitely come back!

Nice atmosphere and staff. Overpriced but we went into our meal prepared for this. The issue was the insanely small portion sizes, especially for their vegetarian offerings compared to the meat dishes we saw on other tables. Mexican has always been my favourite cuisine for how easy it is to make delicious, creative and nutritious vegetarian options. All of cobas offerings used the same mushroom based ingredients with small portions and no protein leaving us bored, unimpressed and very hungry after spending a small fortune.

If you like Latin/mexican and you’re in Amsterdam then you have to check out Coba.

On our last visit to Amsterdam, we went to Coba in the north, on the recommendation of local friends who knew about my love of tacos and margaritas. The weather was beautiful, and we sat outside (make a reservation online). The tequila and mezcal selection was catchy, the tacos were well thought& satisfying. The atmosphere was cool and local with a sexy feeling. The colors of the place might have won me over even more😉 Reviews have said the prices were expensive; According to what?. A carefully curated, cool, popular place that offers not only food&drinks but also an experience. How can a place like this be cheap these days? (Try checking prices online ahead) You can go to 'taco bell' kind of places instead. I loved it. I'd go again.

Coba attempts to add a fine dining flair to classic mexican street food with varying degrees of success. If you’re looking for authentic tacos, this is not the place. If you’re ok with western twists on classics, and spending more money on tacos than ever thought possible, you could give it a shot. The cactus and mushroom taco was my favorite of the night.

Disappointing menu. It's called Taqueria and has just one page menu for food (maybe 10 items in total) of which only 3 are tacos! Misleading name of the restaurant. Portions were tiny for the prices. I don't know how people are raving about the food. Not authentic Mexican. Even if its for drinks, I am surprised as for 6 Euros it was a half glass kambucha.

Not what it used to be. The tacos are getting smaller and less filled. The taco al pastor is a shadow of what it once was and even the ceviche tostada, once legendary, has changed. It seems like they are skimping on ingredients and that has been at the expense of the taste. We will not be coming back here.

probably my favourite restaurant in amsterdam. their margaritas & palomas are unmatched, atmosphere is perfect, and the suadero tacos are something I think about almost every day. pricey, but if you treat it as a special occasion, it's completely worth it every time. and Coba: please bring back the blackened fish tacos!!!
