The chef menu at CONTRAST has been a surprising experience. From the elegant atmosphere and the stunning view to the delicious food, the dining journey was just perfect . The wine pairing as well enhanced the taste of each dish. The freshness of ingredients and the unusual combination of flavors is the key of each dish. The result is a combination of classic ingredients from the Basque kitchen revisited in a contemporary version. The service was excellent, and the privacy that you have between tables is an added value to the quality of the place

Restaurant Contrast in Amsterdam Noord is a fantastic addition to the local dining scene. Set in a beautifully transformed cargo ship, this waterside restaurant offers a unique and memorable experience. We enjoyed a five-course menu, with an additional course of delicious cheeses. The tuna appetizer was a standout, though the flavors of the first three courses were more subtle. However, the lamb neck and cod dishes were exceptional. The portions were small, and while the cocoa cake dessert was tasty, it felt a bit rich to finish. Overall, the meal was excellent, and I highly recommend this restaurant for a special dining experience in Amsterdam Noord. We had lunch and also several times the 8 course Chef's menu. We consider this always as a treat and were never disappointed. We definitely will come back.

The restaurant is a beautiful space and has a great location! You can taste they use high quality products and the food was well prepared, but it was not exceptional; I missed bold or original flavor combinations, the menu seemed a little ‘safe’ to me, but maybe my expectations were a bit too high in this regard. I don’t mind waiting for dishes if the rest of the service is great, but it felt a bit sloppy. It can happen a wine is out of stock, but three different types of drinks we wanted to order were out of stock and they weren’t really attentive with empty glasses. I would expect a little better service for this price to be honest.

This is really an amazing and special spot to eat. From the outside it looks like a rusty boat but on the inside - wow. As you enter the restaurant very friendly people welcome you. I want also mention the nice few over the water, especially in the evening you can watch an amazing sunset on the terrace and enjoy the aperitif. I was there twice and every time I had amazing food, extraordinary service and friendly people around us in an amazing atmosphere :) I would go there a third time for sure. Fine dining is in general quite pricy, but you pay for an experience and in this case it is absolutely worth it - thank you Contrast!

Great place, lovely people and wonderful food with a twist.

Gave dinner as a gift to a friend for her birthday. From the first step over the threshold to departure: fantastic! With every dish we thought it couldn't get any better, but we were still surprised. Not only did we enjoy the food, but the staff also takes a lot of time for you and is very friendly. I would also like to give a big compliment for the furnishings. I'd love to come back to Contrast.

We were there on Saturday for my 18th birthday and it was perfect. The food was incredibly tasty and varied. The staff was very friendly and guided you through every aisle. Wines were also very good and there was a huge selection! The ambience was also wonderful and there was a very nice and relaxed atmosphere. The waiting times between the different courses were neither too long nor too short. We were there for almost three and a half hours for a total of 9 courses and various wines, but that was anything but negative! If we are back in Amsterdam at some point, we will definitely come back again!

We had an amazing dinner at contrast. The food was great, really nice dishes. In addition the service made the night, the sommelier had great wine recommendations which matched the food perfectly. Normally not a fan of natural wines but these were all lovely. Highly recommend contrast

Avoid Drinks & Bites concept. For several reasons: the bites are mediocre at best. The only options on the menu are dried iberico, a few scraps of cheese, olives and canned fish (that was not at all interesting or special). None of the bites that we saw on the internet was on the menu any longer apparently (like buns, croquettes, pulpo etc). The dishes were very small. The only good option was the artichoke., that was delicious. (So I expect that the full menu could be top.) The staff had no attention for the 'bites' customers, as they were working with the menu-customers, we had to wait for them constantly. I think this concept just doesn't work for this restaurant and maybe they should rethink. With 2 bottles of wine and some of these bites we had to pay 220 euro. Not worth it.

amazing place! A view of the lake, ferries come and go, the food comes in delicious form - excellent food! The lamb was just perfect! And the bread with seaweed butter is amazing!

I live in London and am spoilt for choice. Rarely blown away but this was one of those occasions. The tasting menu was fantastic, at least 3 course that were out of this world. The best dining experience i have had in years. I will be booking every time i go to Amsterdam.

5 course menu for 3 hours. Place is beautiful, location is really special. But a lot of things didn’t go well. After more than 1 hour, we received our first dish. Sweet wine that we ordered tasted more acidic than sweet, and the smell was not pleasant. We had no explanation for the waiting. Service was extremely slow, never waited for the dishes like this in my life. We got offered for a bread, and the next round of bread never came. Waiters were passing next to our table, seeing that something is missing, and not reacting at all. But, I have to say, food was excellent, very well balanced flavors. Big compliments to the chef. Working in hospitality myself, I know there can be delays, inconveniences in the restaurant flow, but I have never experienced something like this. Also, price was really high, almost like Michellin experience, and experience was not even close.

Food in ridiculously small portions. Even though they are tasty, they are not worth the price. Service is pretty average too. I don't recommend it, especially for anyone with children.

The place itself already looks amazing, as well as the space below, where varied art installations are shown. The food was very flavourful and the staff was outstandingly friendly. Sadly, there was a party going on in half of the restaurant, but this developed in a way that also the staff had not foreseen. It caused a dent in our experience, but the staff handled this very well and compensated fairly. All in all a very pleasant night, would recommend.

Brilliant dishes with loads of variety. Service a bit too slow to our taste (3,5 hours on an 8-element menu), and maybe lacked a "queen meal" with an absolutely unique ingredient. The high-point: design, organic wines, service quality (not the speed), deserts and a brilliant clam // The low-point: speed of delivery and a complete fish-head dish which was not really nice and fine-dining friendly. Still, a really complete and unique experience in the ports of Amsterdam.

Getting a good service and a delicious menu for a good price/quality in Amsterdam can be tricky. Well at Contrast we got everything on such a professional level. Pablo (the sommelier) made our evening wonderful. He is so passionate, kind and thoughtful. He will give you the best explications and anecdotes about the wine or the menu. The food was delicious with seasonal products. And the interior design/location is absolutely amazing! You will travel the whole evening 🙌🏼

A hidden gem in Amsterdam Noord, only a few minutes walking from the NDSM ferry. Shared dining inspired by modern Iberian cuisine complemented by a compact but very good selection of beers, cocktails and wines. The large windows with views towards the NDSM and across the Ij towards Amsterdam together with the passionate Spanish chefs and the rest of the team complete the experience. We went there for lunch but can’t wait to go there for dinner!

Had a nice evening with original dishes on a beautiful minimalist boat. If I had known in advance that only natural wines would be served, I might have made a different choice. Now some wines surprised me in a positive way and the sommelier did a nice job, but really tasty: not for me personally. We had the 8 course chef's menu, but because it went quite quickly, we asked at one point if the pace could be slowed down and they did so. In the very beginning we had to wait a long time to order our first drink, but that turned out to be (more than) fine later on. Friendly service and nice that the chef also comes to explain. All in all we had a very nice evening, but would not do the experience again at 780 euros for 4 people.

An incredible experience, the Basque Country meets the Netherlands! A symphony of flavors that will immerse you in childhood nostalgia. A real visit to Basque lands! The sommelier showed us around France through recommendations of exceptional natural wines! A must-see in Amsterdam.

What an amazing experience! First of all the service, I want to give a special shout-out to the staff that were very attentive on my dietary requests - they did it very subtly and with a smile. Thank you so much! Every dish and wine had a wonderful story, allowing conscious indulgence for the whole evening. All courses were delicious and not something that I had tasted anywhere else before. The star of the menu was definitely the fish! Please be aware that it’s on a boat, and yes - it does bounce a tiny bit whenever there’s a strong wind or a boat passing by. It’s part of the ambiance, I say. Highly recommend to go here for a good enjoyful evening of fine dining and wine!

Contrast was a marvelous experience! It's definitely a place that will stay in our minds for a very long time. Iñaki's cooking is not only refreshingly surprising in terms of unexpected ideas, flavours and ingredients coming together, but also just simply delicious - not going to reveal the dishes but the first one just blew our minds. The wine pairing was also grand, every single wine was a perfect match to the dish being served, and the waitress was also very knowledgeable about pretty much everything - from ingredients, to cooking, and all the drinks as well. Everyone was super kind and the overall vibe was fab. Definitely coming back at some point, I've already recommended it to friends! Thanks guys!!!

We’ve had such an amazing experience at Contrast Amsterdam. We went there to celebrate my partner’s birthday and it was the best choice we could have made! Going out for dinner has almost become a hobby of ours, as we visit a new restaurant every other week. Contrast has surprised us and our tastebuds in a whole new way. The staff was amazing, welcoming and very knowledgeable about their products and dishes. Every course out of almost 11 (also counting side dishes and starters) was delicious and innovating. The chef combined flavours in a way we have not tasted before. Also the wines were great, my boyfriend even loved the red (which is for the first time ever!). We will be dreaming about the chocolate cake in the upcoming week. I hope to visit Contrast again soon. Thank you for this amazing experience

One of the most incredible culinary experiences I have had to date. Everything was so well researched, fresh ingredients, simple yet sophisticated flavours that paired with a fine selection of unique wines. We were in awe of Inaki's talent, his storytelling and passion for cooking combined with a special service of the always super helpful and smiling staff, I can only say it was a moment never to be forgotten. This was our second visit to this restaurant. The first time, we were amazed by the quality. This time, the food was again great, but the overall experience did not meet our expectations. There were two main issues: The kitchen was clearly struggling to keep up with the pace; it took us 3.5 hours to complete 5 courses. We found the food to be insufficient, and we suspect they may have skipped a course. We sent them an honest email with our feedback afterward but never heard back. It's unfortunate because it's a nice restaurant with interesting food, but there are many better experiences to be had elsewhere. We won't be trying it again, unfortunately.

10/10 can recommend. Mostly it‘s the location and interior, but the dishes and wines are also carefully selected and it‘s just a journey to explore those dishes and drinks. Lovely place!! Keep up the good work 💫

Delicious food, great service, beautiful space

We visited the place last week, there were 4 of us. The place was far from being full. We ordered chef’s menu with 8 courses. It took us 4! (Four) hours to get 7 of our courses. That was very disappointing and unacceptable. We decided to skip the desert as it was almost midnight. Our first time was perfect last year. This time it was a disaster.

Very tasty food, great service and beautiful place! We were lucky that the sun showed itself for a while and this provided a beautiful view from the deck! Definitely come back ;)

What a great evening! Started with an aperitif in the belly of the ship. Followed by a fantastic evening with delicious Basque dishes and special pairing wines and non-alcoholic drinks. Staff is very service-oriented and attentive! Highly recommended!

Interesting concept and ideas, but there was something missing or wrong in every dish, every chat, every glass. The waiters were very nice but the pace was very slow, one entree in one hour is a bit annoying. Overall, the service and the details of the dishes were not in line with the price, everything was too expensive. We were expecting the chef to come and have a chat. Sometimes, the best pairing is not the one that comes nearby.

A great evening! Friendly and attentive service that does everything it can to ensure you have a wonderful evening. Delicious, original dishes and wines that are explained in a pleasant way. And all this in a unique location. We can't wait to enjoy the view here in the summer!

Contrast is a very sober restaurant (wooden tables with wine rings, no table linen) with an interesting menu. However, the dishes are minimalist and the simple wines are bizarrely priced from 45 euros per bottle. The service is friendly but not very professional and often does not speak the Dutch language, which caused misunderstandings in communication. Nice simple place with tasty snacks but way too expensive for what it is.

Honestly just went in there with no Idea what to expect. I had some Pork Ear, which was lovely to eat and had a great presentation. Its obviously on the more expensive side, but the food i had was great.

Had an amazing experience at Contrast. We had an amazing table at the window, looking out over the water. The staff had a lot of knowledge and knew how to present the dishes, explaining every detail. The food was immaculate, I honestly haven’t eaten this good for a long time. My only point for improvement would be that the time between the different rounds could have been a bit shorter. But overall, 5+ star experience!

A friend of mine and I had dinner here in December and we were really satisfied! The super cosy and elegant atmosphere, helpful and very kind staff and the food all very very good. I highly recommend going to visit this place, you will absolutely not regret it!

My mom and grandma had a dinner at contract and they loved it. The service was so Nice. The menu was so out of the ordinary and special ! They told me it was so good I had to give a review.

Contrast is, well, a place of contrasts. First the good things: the atmosphere, the decor, the sustainable approach and the creativity are all great. The staff is very friendly but by fine dining standards they do seem a bit understaffed. Food takes really forever to arrive, which is ok-ish at a place like this but it’s hard to grab attention of the waiters which should really not be the case at the price point. Yes I’m a privileged white male. Now the not-so-great parts. Food, in my opinion, was very uneven. Raging from great (starters, desert) to mediocre (seafood dish I had) to downright bad (main dish, sadly). Then the really bad: the restaurant is on a boat and the boat keeps moving every time the NDSM ferry passes by. I didn’t realize how massively bad the effect would be on me. If you’re sensitive to this and have some form of seasickness: avoid! The second bad part is ventilation or lack thereof. There’s a heavy kitchen stench everywhere, and especially on all the clothes they put in a closet just by the kitchen. At a restaurant that aspires to be a fine dining venue that is unacceptable.

How beautiful it turned out! Together with my business partner, I once saw the first ambitions of the 'Floating Pavilion' by architect Javier Zubira, supported by the decisiveness of Huib and Esther. Now 4 years later, a dream of a place has been created here! Basque cuisine is honest and pure and is prepared with passion. Unfortunately the weather was a bit autumnal, but with the sun the place and the terrace on the water are certainly breathtaking. So we will definitely come back!

Anywhere with Slobodne on its wine list is a winner for me! Although some might consider it a trek to visit, I would highly recommend booking a meal at Contrast. The venue is amazing and the food is delicious with a variety of flavours and textures, leaving you unsure what to expect with each course but assuredly satisfied. The service between courses was well spaced out, leaving time to enjoy the meal in full. It was wonderful to not feel rushed throughout!

One of the most innovative restaurants in Amsterdam. Located in a transformation area north of the city in a boat transformed for the occasion into a Basque restaurant on the floor above and a very interesting events and exhibition space below. The managers are the same as other very successful transformations in the city and are a guarantee of quality and urban innovation. For an audience attentive to placemaking and good food I highly recommend it.

Once again in Contrast. We enjoyed every second of chef Iñaki Bolumburu's original, creative and exciting cuisine while taking in the incredible views from the boat. It is very nice that they explain each dish and each wine to you in detail. Perfect pairing!!! Impeccable and kindly professional attention. In short: the best restaurant I've been to. Wow. Just wow. We had our birthday dinner here and we were initially very impressed by the location and interior design. Then the menu itself; how it's sourced sustainably and locally and the effort and time the chef and team put in to find the best products - that is truly felt through and through. Then the flavours of each dish; fan-tas-tic, creative, inventive, surprising, satisfying, delicious and more! We DEFINITELY will be coming back! Thank you team Contrast for a very very nice evening and meal!

In my opinion one of the best restaurants in the city. Locally sourced ingredients combined into surprising and tasteful dishes, with an excellent wine pairing. The space is not only beautiful, but has great acoustics (which is rare) that allow your conversation to feel intimate even if it’s busy. On top of all this, there’s a little exposition space where you can have a glass of wine and enjoy some art.

What a gem of a restaurant. Dishes are incredibly balanced, subtle and invite your attention in that manner. Front of house consists of genuine sweetness, have rarely felt more welcome, from entering to leaving the establishment. Great value for money, smart concept and incredible location. Just go and indulge!

Went here on a friday. Maybe my expectations were to high, but in my opinion the food wasn't anything special, i would even say some of them didn't taste good at all. The servers were really nice, but we between some dishes we waited for a hour or more, in total we spent 3 hours here just waiting for and eating the food, and we immideatly asked for the bill (which also took ~20 minutes to get) with the last dish. The atmosphere is pretty nice, the boat does move constantly tho, so if you are seasick this is not the place to eat. Overall we had a pretty bad experience, some of the dishes we couldn't even finish (tomato balls), and it wasn't just me. We overheard a couple right next to us having the exact same experience.

Als je op een bijzondere plek uiteten wilt, is dit je plek. Heb mijn 30ste verjaardag hier gevierd en het was FANTASTISCH! Het menu is heerlijk, bijzondere smaken mooi op elkaar afgestemd en out of the box, de wijnen net zo lekker. En dan de locatie, prachtige venue aan het water, mooi ingericht met veel ramen en licht met uitzicht op de zonsondergang. Het personeel maakt het plaatje compleet, persoonlijk en enorm gastvrij om je een mooie avond te bezorgen! 12 out of 10!!

On first impressions, we loved the look of the restaurant. Great location and a beautiful interior. The drinks/aperitif menu was a little disappointing - no cocktails, and a very small selection of quite basic beers. The food was definitely very good, though not outstanding. We liked the wine pairings. What let the experience down for us was the sporadic and uneven arrival of the dishes (the staff were a little flustered despite the restaurant not being fully booked out on a Friday night) and in particular the fact that we were asked to keep hold of our cutlery between each course. This might sound petty, but it really doesn’t match the level of service and quality that this restaurant is aspiring to. The server explained to us that this was done for sustainability reasons - but fresh cutlery feels like a non-negotiable in a restaurant of this supposed calibre. Overall Contrast feels like it has the right elements to be really special, but it has a few things to iron out to get there.

Een super duper geweldig restaurant! Locatie is prachtig en het eten one of a kind! Super plek voor de fijnproever! Pluspuntje.. hier heb je sowieso het laatste beetje zon van de dag!

De eerste keer dat we hier aten was een aangename en verassende culinaire belevenis. Een schip met kunstgalerij in het ruim vlakbij de aanlegplek van de Pontsteigerveerpont met uitzicht op de haven en zonsondergang. Onze tafel was om half acht besteld en na ruim een half uur genieten van de zonsondergang gingen we binnen zitten en waren we in volle verwachting van een smaakvol 5 gangen diner. Vanaf toen verliep de avond tamelijk rampzalig. Tegen 9 uur stond er nog niks op tafel en toen we daar enigzins ongeduldig de aandacht op vestigden, werd ons verzekerd dat het eerste gerecht er aan kwam. Toen dat alsnog op zich liet wachten hebben we brood besteld want dat was ook nog niet vanzelf gekomen. Toen 20 minuten na de aankondiging het eerste gerecht alsnog kwam, beklaagden we ons over de toch wel lange tijd die inmiddels verstreken tussen de reservering om half 8 en het tijdstip van opdienen van de eerste gang bijna 2 uur later. De reactie: maar u hebt toch brood gekregen, vergezeld van een neerbuigend klopje op mijn rug. Voor de goede orde: ik wil niet aangeraakt worden worden door personeel in een restaurant. Dat is onbetamelijk. Ik had wel verontschuldigen willen hebben en misschien enige uitleg waarom de ervaring van deze avond zo enorm veel slechter was dan die van de eerste avond. Gang 1 was overigens heerlijk en dat deed ons blijven, hoewel onze culinaire ervaring inmiddels gierend uit de bocht gevlogen was met bijbehorende gevoelens van ongenoegen en irritatie. Helaas werd het daarna niet veel beter, hoewel er vanuit de keuken nog wel een goedgedoelde poging kwam om ons gunstig te stemmen met een stuk van het hoofdgerecht, het deel van de vis dat in de Baskische traditie doorgaans toebedeeld wordt aan de meest geeerde gasten, met het advies het met de vingers te eten. Toen we vroegen of de vis ook gefileerd kon worden, werd het gerecht - dat er overigens mooi en smakelijk uitzag - direct voor onze neus weggegrist en het kwam ook niet meer terug. Dat was bruusk en onbegrijpelijk. Temidden van al deze irritaties was het natuurlijk nauwelijks mogelijk te genieten van de gerechten, maar ze waren smakelijk en mooi gepresenteerd. Aan het eten zelf heeft het dus niet gelegen. De rest stond in schril contrast met onze eerdere aangename ervaring. Lang wachten, geen gepaste verontschuldigingen, ongewenst aangeraakt worden, het vreemde incident met de Baskische vis. Helaas voelde ik schaamte tegenover onze Amerikaanse gast, zoiets is daar ondenkbaar, maar helaas in Nederland vrij gebruikelijk. We zijn bij de afrekening enigzins gecompenseerd doordat we de drankjes niet hoefden te betalen, maar eerlijk gezegd vond ik het overgebleven bedrag (ongeveer €90 per persoon) weggegooid geld. Ons zien ze er niet meer terug.

Contrast might easily be the best restaurant in town. It ticks all the boxes of beautiful design with a great location and view, warm and welcoming atmosphere, very nice and attentive staff and simply extra-delicious food. I can't recommend it enough!

Wat zijn we op onze eerste date met baby een absolute winnaar binnengelopen. Het contrast met de toptenten van deze wereld is niet groot, het is eentje die ongetwijfeld hele hoge ogen gaat gooien bij de Michelin en gault millau's van deze wereld. Prachtige gerechten met baskische invloeden door een chef die bij de crème de la crème van de wereld heeft gekookt en dit ook hier op het bord toverde. Niets dan genot, en wat een plek, het terras is top, maar binnen is Scandinavisch strak, ook daar zou ik graag zitten. Het personeel is uitstekend ook. Vergeet ook niet naar beneden te gaan voor een vette expositie in de krochten van het schip. De Wine pairing zat weer zoals vele hippe tenten iets te vol met natuurwijn, maar dat was dan ook het enige minpunt, want avontuurlijk was het zeker. Door de deining van het schip van het schip ben je toch al een soort schijndronken.

Fantastisch! Echt fantastisch gegeten, wat een prachtige gerechten, wijnen en fijn personeel. Echt een aanrader als je van echt goed eten houdt. De locatie en het gebouw(schip) is ook prachtig, hulde!
