De Blauwe Engel in Zuidas

The first night we were in Amsterdam, we stopped in here on a whim because we were looking for something close to our hotel after a long day of traveling. Daphne and Terrance were amazing and the food, drinks and atmosphere were so good we at least stopped in for a drink every night we were in Amsterdam. It seems like a heavily visited local watering hole; it was pretty busy every night, but they make time to get around to all the tables. If you are staying at the InnSide hotel at Zuidplein, or just in the area, you should make a stop over, it will be worth your while. Whenever we return to Amsterdam, I'm sure we will find our way down there again.

Nice, busy, after work borrel and place to have a good time. Service is excellent and this is a good place to relax after work for a few drinks! Always willing to help and a great group of people that work there! Thanks for everything!

Used to love this place but not serving tap water during lunch is an automatic 1 star

Let alone that I’ve been coming here for at least five years without a care. Tonight, I was a bit tipsy from a drink I got elsewhere, knowing I’d have to finish it outside or throw it away. All this while I was showing my credit card and trying to get four drinks for my friends. The waitress didn’t even bother to talk to me; she just took my other drink and threw it away without a second thought. Then, I couldn’t even pay because she switched to other customers. Honestly, that’s not how service is supposed to be. M 🟥🟥

Food is great, highly recommend. Service, however, can be rather slow. Most of the staff are friendly enough to forgive the pace though.

Scammers… 24.09.2025 Went here with a friends around 5. We ordered 2 bottles of wine and 2 snacks. Pretty simple, right? Well, apparently not for them they decided to sneak in two extra glasses of white wine on our bill, assuming we wouldn’t notice. We paid, but when I looked at the receipt today, surprise surprise, there it was. When I went back to point it out, the first thing they asked me was which waiter helped us. (As if I should be running HR for them.) Three different people served us that day. One said it wasn’t her, I said maybe it was the blonde one, and their brilliant solution? “Come back at 5:30.” I even told them they could check the cameras!!!!. So basically: they make the mistake, then expect the customer to chase down whichever messed it up. Amateurish Third-rate, embarrassing bar. Never again.

On a night where everything went wrong this place became one of my most enjoyable highlights of my trip to amsterdam the food was great but the staff that night on August 26th was perfection me and my friend left full and laughing about our misfortunes.

Food was very mediocre. Both Nachos and flamekuchen were overcooked and burnt. Service took a very long time for easy dishes. Also, not a great atmosphere at 5pm on Wednesday with some drunk guests making a lot of noise, rapping, dancing, demanding drinks.

One, service and atmosphere by the hostess was nothing to complain about. However, the bar was sticky (just after opening time), and there was no soap or paper towels at the toilet. Soon a second chance, and if it is clean and tidy then the review will certainly be adjusted (after all it could have been a snapshot)

After a variety of amazing eating experiences in Amsterdam, this place was very underwhelming. I ordered the Spicy Burger but received The Classic. When I told our server about this he blamed the kitchen (yea ok) then shrugged it off and said “well they are the same price”. They were NOT the same price and he still charged me for my original order. He didn’t even attempt to make it right. Just looked at me like…”eat it and be o.k.” Now, I didn’t send it back because I didn’t want someone to mess with my food, but I was bored by what I ate. My nephew ordered the soup and said “It’s like I’m eating water”. The atmosphere is cool. I’d go here for drinks ONLY. Avoid the food as much as possible.

We ordered the chicken truffle burger and it was delicious😋 the only down side was that it took a long time before a staff noticed us and took our order.

Very interesting place. You can have a fun time in the evening. We liked it.

We made a reservation, waiter doesn’t know anything about manners. Reservation was not upheld, no table set, no chairs and they said no food either. Never go there , go to AH

Legendary soto soup! I come here every week and for many years just to get my soto. All these years it tastes just great and stays affordable. Thank you!

Good place for drinks. After 17h, they turn up the music, making it difficult to speak to others. The beers are served with a glass that is more empty than it should. For 5 euros a beer, I'd expect a full glass!

A very interesting location. Really good burger quality, low prices compared to the average. Very strategically located just outside Zuid station. The staff is very kind in fulfilling even simple requests such as removing ingredients from the burger.

Mixing Vodka with water when ordering shots is a shame!

Terrible tent; You pay too much money for beer that seems diluted with water. Furthermore, poor service and music that was way too loud.

Love this place after work at Zuid Station, it has a party atmosphere and the staff are really nice.

Ik kwam hier voor een lunch met collega's. Onvriendelijke en ongeduldige bediening. Helaas maakte het eten er ook niet beter op. Een matige en liefdeloos belegde clubsandwich met bleke melige frieten. Geliefde plek bij het ZuidAs publiek voor de vrijmibo. Dan is het hier afgeladen vol. Dat het bier hier rijkelijk vloeit, blijkt al uit je zolen die aan de vloer plakken. Verder mist het café alle sfeer. Laat ik het interieur maar als functioneel typeren. Zelfs een blind paard kan hier geen schade aanrichten. You love it or you hate it.

Terrible gaslighting and insulting waitress. I asked if they had a vegetarian soup, and the answer was yes, with a suggestion for an option. I ordered it, but it turned out to be chicken soup. I told the waitress that I had ordered a vegetarian soup, but she started lying and gaslighting me, saying that I never ordered a vegetarian soup and that I should read the menu instead of checking my phone. She also insulted me with toxic comments like, 'Based on your figure, I can understand you’re not a vegetarian.' When I called the manager, she said there were no vegetarian soup options

The service was excellent, super friendly and quick. The food was ok/ acceptable, nothing mind blowing.

Excellent food. Big place for celebration

So disappointed . I have an egg allergy (carry 2 epipens) and it was handled poorly. I was told I could have the burger and when I questioned the bun I was told they didn’t know if it had egg.. I was then eventually given an allergy menu. I ended up picking the satay which came with a pot of mayo and a questionable white dressing on the salad. Unfortunately the satay was really dry too.

Good café with nice terrace, great for beer and bitterballen after work. Smooth service and DJ on Thursday evenings. Always pleasantly busy.

I spent a long time at the Blue Angel on Monday evening for the first time. I came for some drinks and some snacks. Super cozy atmosphere and very nice staff! The snacks were not entirely to my taste, but the staff certainly made up for it! Super nice girl behind the bar! Fast service and very friendly and pleasant! Tiara was definitely worth a review!!!

Great after work drink spot. Famous Friday afternoon and early evening party's. Very friendly staff. Very well connected also. 100 metres or less to all public transport you can dream off. International vibe. 6 min by train from Schiphol airport. So if you have a transfer and some time and you are on friday early evening this is your place to go :) Still a good DJ at friday evenings. Busy untill midnight. Enjoy!

I went here last Monday evening, it was super busy. Google said it wouldn't be super busy around 6:30, but almost every table was occupied. A brown-haired girl helped us very well, it seemed as if she was alone in this crowd. Despite the crowds, she even made a cocktail for me and my girlfriend that was not on their menu. For the rest a super nice atmosphere, definitely a harasser. I'll be visiting here again soon!

Nice. Had chicken Satay, was very tasty. Service was appropriate, professional and friendly. No desserts, but had hot chocolate.

A really great tent! I stopped by here in the evening for a quick drink. I was immediately attended to and served. The kitchen was almost closed, but I was still able to get a tasty bitterbal. Highly recommended! The staff was also super nice and would definitely come back again.

Definitely not recommended on Mondays. Closed 1.5 hours earlier, service not friendly and we had to pour our beer into a plastic cup fifteen minutes after the last round because they were closing? With so many nice restaurants in Ams, not a place to go again

Definitely not recommended if you want to have a drink later in the evening. According to the website and Google Maps, it was open until 12:00 AM, but we were offered plastic cups at 10:30 PM and asked to leave after the last round was served at 10:15 PM. Service left much to be desired, draft beer was thrown very casually on the table in a soaking wet glass. Perhaps fun for Friday afternoons, but absolutely not during the week. Price was also no better compared to the rest of the city, so my tip is to take the tram and go to a nice place instead of this mockery.

It's a nice place to hang out with friends for a drink, very busy but a great crowd and nice atmosphere.

The food for lunch was good, but we had to wait for 40+ minutes for an order.

This place is for after office hours drinks and also parties on Thursday’s and fridays.

Nice place , full of people and lots more fun.

Man what a noise. If you have friends you don't want to talk to this the place to be. The music is way too loud.

I am writing to express my gratitude for the excellent service provided by your staff. I came by only to use the bathroom and drink some water. And while I was upstairs, my friend was waiting for me downstairs. What I didn't know was that my friend had passed out while he was using his phone. Your staff immediately came to his aid, helped him up and made sure he was okay. This was a true act of kindness, and we were extremely grateful for their quick response. When I returned from using the bathroom, one of your staff members was waiting for me to explain what had happened. This level of care and attention to detail was greatly appreciated, and it made us feel valued as humans. Later that evening back at the hotel, we thought my friend had lost his phone at Der Blauwe Engel. However, as I was hanging up the wet backpack to dry, I noticed that the staff had put his phone inside the backpack in the small outside pocket. This was yet another example of the outstanding humanity of the staff working there. I would like to commend your staff for their excellent work. They were incredibly friendly, helpful, and attentive. I guess they only hire actual angels there ;)

Always the place to go after work. Always busy. If you want a dark beer you might struggle. Mainly your lagers, wit types.

Nice restaurant near the Amsterdam World Trade Center. They have a good range of options. It wasn't busy when I was there and the service was nice and friendly. I had the Spicy Burger, which was good. The jalapeños are from a jar, but had good kick. It's a good spot for a meal if you need to stay near the WTC.

I was there during the ADE, and it was cool. The DJ was on fire. The place is big enough to enjoy the dancefloor. There is an out space for when the weather is nice. The staff is really cool and pleasant.

I like the bar and the atmosphere. But the staff things it is about them and not the people who are coming. Prices.. I think it is Amsterdam but 3.5 foe a very small coke? Bizar. All restaurants and bars have to scan the QR code before you enter the place. I think they don't know even know how it all looks like. In these times I rather pass than joining here. Sad but thru

Brasserie style place, with a good menu offering a few quick options, ideal for lunch time when you work in WTC or nearby. The ladies are smiling, available and efficient during the service, and above all, the food was good. A good place to sit down and relax for 40mn, better than all the fast food outlets around.

Het was oké; wel rustig en deels in de zon, tot deze achter een woontoren was. De sate was smakelijk.

De blauwe Engel, voor intimi ook wel: 'de blauwe stengel' of 'de blauwe hengel'. Ja wat moet ik anders zeggen. Niet meer en ook niet minder. The place to be als je als corporate professional laat op de avond nog op zoek bent naar 'gezelschap voor de nacht'. Maar ze zijn ook overdag open en hebben een terras. Hoe het ook zij, ik was er heel erg lang niet geweest. Nu, in corona, een paar uurtjes in de vroege avond op het terras gezeten, o.a. omdat we een andere kroeg ('citroen') niet meer leuk vinden door de slechte bitterballen. Het was rustig, vrijwel de hele Zuidas werkt nog thuis aan alle 'belangrijke' deals, 'cruciale' adviezen etc. dus de slimme gestylde jongens en meisjes uit de betere kringen en de oudere partners met uitgerangeerd huwelijk zitten na het werk allemaal lekker in de tuin in Oud Zuid, het Gooi, Bloemendaal, Aerdenhout etc. aan de koude kletsers, de witte wijntjes en de bitterballen uit de airfryer en dus zonder kortgerokte secretaresse. Maar goed, wij zaten dus op het terras bij de Blauwe Stengel, en het leven was daar best goed. Attente bediening, na maanden thuis te hebben gewerkt was het uitzicht voor de tweelingoudervader op de dames die eindelijk weer eens konden flaneren in mooie jurkjes ook een verademing, net als voor zijn trouwe masculine collega. Pils, oude kaas, osseworst en ballen waren prima en deden de rest. Dus, wellicht wat beïnvloed door de omstandigheden, maar ik geef de Blauwe Engel 5 sterren.
