Over all a total disaster of a nite. The newly hired staff of 3 days was simply not trained properly. That should be a top priority. This was my fourth time in. The others were very good. This time, they forgot to order the main dinners. She ordered the wrong size salad. A 2 hour mess... We never even ate our dinner. This is not exceptable . The soup...ice cold.....

A bit of a mess tonight. The service was slow. The soup didn't arrive as a starter. Water didn't arrive the second time. Few gluten-free and lactose-free options.

visited this city previous week with sis in law. Although the negative comments, we both enjoyed the nice atmosphere, great food and excellent choice of many kinds of beverages. Staff was absolutely amazing, especially the beautiful waitress with high heels and ponytail that suggested the Glühwein for the both of us. it was so delicious! Shared a few laughs too. amazing experience and will for sure visit again soon when back in holland🍷❤️❤️❤️

I don't even know where to begin. I ordered a burger that cost a mere 19 euros, but paying 19 euros just for the burger is a rip-off! Then they charged another 8 euros for some fries 😂 That makes a total of 26 euros for what? My partner ordered a salad, well, she just picked at it and then left everything. We were in Amsterdam for 8 nights and ate out twice a day, and I can only say one thing: this restaurant was the most expensive and the worst we experienced. Every other restaurant within a 50-meter radius is 100 times better than this one. I'd give it 5 stars, but only for the ambiance, nothing more.

The place looks beautiful and the staff are friendly but our table was in front of the open kitchen and here’s what I saw: The “chef” stirred the sauce pot with his two fingers and then put his fingers in his mouth to taste. Then we put it in another pot to stir something else. Then he wiped his finger with his apron and plated a dinner and he touched all the food with his hands and fingers to check the temperature. He made a side salad and he just grabbed all the ingredients with his bare hands and put them together. So spoon, no gloves, no washing hands, nothing.

Too crowded.... Steak was served incredibly cold. I am sure it was a plate returned by another client. Side food was missing.... Only steak and two carrots. I guess there was some wheat thing and other vegetables had to be in the plate...

We booked at this restaurant solely because of its location inside a castle, which is practically its only appeal. Everything else leaves much to be desired. The staff's attitude was unacceptable. After ordering hamburgers and a drink, which came to approximately €25 per person, one of the waiters looked at us with surprise and a clearly arrogant attitude, as if he were annoyed that we hadn't ordered more. The feeling is that they expect customers to spend a fortune just to be there, which is very unpleasant. The hamburgers were okay, but they don't justify either the price or the overall experience. Furthermore, the menu is extremely short, with very few options, which further diminishes the restaurant's appeal. In short, I absolutely do not recommend it: neither for the service nor for the food. It's a place that lives off its surroundings and image, but not for the service or the quality. That said, if anyone decides to go, it's best to book in advance, because the place is packed because of the castle, not the food.

We have ordered fish, but it taste nothing. The hamburger was not cooked wel. But the pasta was delicious.

I had the high wine with a friend and it was fantastic, even better than expected. The dishes were perfectly paired with the wines, the atmosphere was lovely, and the staff were friendly. Highly recommended.

This was one of the best places to get something to eat or just a drink. It was our last day and we wanted to see as much as we could but I would have loved to stay here longer just to enjoy the atmosphere

We booked the room on the second floor for a group of 20 ppl. The group menu was provided beforehand, including appetizers, three different kinds of main dishes to choose from, and desserts. Salads, fries, and drinks were provided as well. The beef tartare was not impressive, with the meat being so rubbery that I couldn’t chew through it. The pork belly had a high proportion of fat. The fish dish was not memorable, not tender, and had no umami; it had leek and mashed potatoes as sides. The dessert was an open apple pie, with different elements scattered on the plate: apple crumble, pie pastry, ice cream, and apple sauce. It was sweet but better than other dishes. The restaurant was really fancy in its interior design, a great option for special event celebrations. But food itself was not impressive, which might be due to the group menu chosen. Possibly other dishes not included are worth trying. The service was great, the colleagues were patient and hospitable.

After visiting Amsterdam many times, we finally went to this restaurant in the center of the New Markt. Beautiful on the outside and truly charming on the inside. High ceilings, enormous chandeliers with candles, a very welcoming atmosphere. But that's about it...unfortunately, in my opinion, the service was improvised and very slow. We ordered the typical bitterballen (good), shrimp in a spicy sauce (boiled and flavorless), and a meat tataki (a small dish but quite good). The bill, however, was a bit high given the quantity and service. You definitely pay for the restaurant's central location and its authenticity.

We ordered traditional Dutch dishes. I'm Brazilian, my partner is Dutch. His idea was to surprise me with the flavors. The experience was disappointing. We are excellent cooks and appreciate well-prepared food, from the simplest to the most sophisticated. According to him, the same dishes, if bought at the Albert Heijn supermarket, would have been tastier and with more authentic ingredients. We were honest when asked about the food by the waiter.

Beautiful location and very atmospheric decor. The staff was very friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. The food was good; the menu wasn't too extensive, but it was diverse.

Such a beautiful old building… I stopped for a moment without even planning to 🙂 It looks a bit like a small castle right in the middle of the city. People walking around, taking photos, a relaxed atmosphere. I didn’t stay long, but the place has something calm and pleasant about it. A nice stop while wandering through Amsterdam.

Dining inside a 15th-century city gate was a unique and interesting experience! Waag Restaurant is Amsterdam’s oldest non-religious building, which once served as a weigh house (waag) and anatomical theatre. The candlelit interior and vaulted ceilings created a dramatic, historic setting that was hard to beat. Food was decent; the white asparagus was fresh and nicely prepared. Overall, the building itself makes the visit worthwhile. A memorable spot for the ambience!

You should definitely reserve a table in advance if you want to eat here. The style is very nice, both inside and out. Unfortunately, I can't comment on the food, as we only had drinks. But the other tables looked very tasteful, at least.

Nice to sit outside on a beautiful sunny Sunday in Amsterdam. Good for bigger groups of people. Egg benedict could perform a bit better, though 🍳 🥓🍣🍽️

Nice space and nice food. Ideal location in the city center. Perfect choice for large groups and for those who want a secluded space for a discussion or presentation.

Don't go here if you're hungry, €27 for a mouthful of pork belly. Tiny portions and the quality was disappointing, I've had better pork belly from aldi. But staff are nice and it's a good atmosphere.

It's an old warehouse. Now used as a nice cafe and restaurant, they've kept most of it in its original condition. The chandeliers are still lit with candles. Right in front of it is a second-hand goods market on Sundays.

The food was below average and couldn’t complete the course. I took their signature burger and it wasn’t great 3/10. I also ordered the soup of the day and I will give it 3.5/10. The only good thing they had was the fires and sweet potato which easily marked at 7/10. Overall not worth the visit.

Historic building located in the city center. It operates as a restaurant.

After being seated at a table with a dirty glass, we were given excellent service. The main courses were ridiculously priced: €27 for just a rosefish fillet, served on a piece of leek in a bland sauce. The fish was cold, and they could just as easily have replaced the sauce with a puddle of water. My fellow guest had the sauce with their Caesar salad instead of the other way around. It's a nice place to look at inside, but the price-quality ratio is a real shame. And the restrooms are covered in graffiti, which is rather chic.

Amazing hospitality in the centre of amsterdam. Me and my husband celebrated our 40th anniversary saturday on the terrace.🌷A beautiful young waitress named Naz helped us choose between all kinds beers...We chose the Pale-ale and blonde. Much love to this lady who made sure we got pictures and our way back to the hotel... memorable experience and will definitely return. Thank You Lots The Waag, we loved it endearingly…Cheers to many more.... truly..❤️

Delicious 2-dish meal: Cauliflower Soup Beef Burger

Rarely experienced something so unfriendly, from the waitress we were informed how busy she was and that we had to decide very quickly to order our drinks and our food

Extremely poor service. We had to wait 15 minutes for the menu. The staff completely ignored the guests, no matter how clearly we tried to get their attention. We ordered food, but everything arrived at different times. The wine was also a problem: one glass arrived, the other didn't, or the other way around. I haven't experienced such poor service in a long time. Moreover, the food wasn't anything special.

We enjoyed a delicious main course here before heading to Theater Carré. Cozy atmosphere, beautiful decor, and friendly staff.

We did not enjoy our meal here and wouldn’t recommend visiting, very typical tourist destination and I am sure there are many better restaurants in Amsterdam. The food was very poor (seafood pasta tasted more like a Thai green curry, raw salmon could have been cubes of chicken there was no flavour, mushrooms in the pancakes were cold and slimy with absolutely no flavour, and the “imitation” crab had a half cooked poached egg on top with some brown avocado) Service was fine but nothing could compensate the poor food.

The staff made no contact whatsoever, walking back and forth several times with empty trays. They avoided eye contact. After 10 minutes, they got up and went to eat somewhere else.

The salad was very filling and satisfying. The burger was delicious, and the atmosphere inside the restaurant was quite nice. I thought the terrace seats would be full and I would have to wait in line, but the restaurant was empty, making it a hidden gem.

The three of us went out for a nice walk around town. We found a nice spot near the Waag. Unfortunately, when it's busy and you have to wait, it's what it is. However, on Sunday, August 18th, the terrace was half empty. The staff simply ignored us. It was truly extraordinary. Not even a "hello." We left after 15 minutes without speaking to anyone or even being able to talk. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone, no matter how beautiful the location is. There are better places in Amsterdam with more friendly staff.

Medieval atmosphere, we ate well, the dish of the day was mussels in white wine, well-cooked duck, rosé, and the beers were also good. It's not cheap, but the location is also worth it. Excellent, I'd go back.

I didn't find much variety between the dinner menu and what I found online when I selected it. The service, atmosphere, and food were pleasant, although a little above average in terms of price.

Had a quick beer on the patio. Never seen one before: a smoking and a non-smoking section. Cool. At this AAA+ location, you shouldn't be surprised by a .5L beer for €12.

The food is overpriced for what you get, and the service is incredibly slow. They're seriously losing revenue because of this. Great location. It makes up for a lot.

The place is truly beautiful. We sat as a family of four. However, we had to stay after receiving the menu. There wasn't anything the kids could eat. The menu was limited, so it's a good place for drinks, not for food. We sat at another place right across the street. We were very pleased with the variety, taste, and price.

Food was okay at best, too sweet and yet everything was overcooked. Felt like if you added many dishes together poorly. Atmosphere was very poor, sat next to a bench with people drinking bottle after bottle of alcohol. Server was annoying and rude, and also took very very long to get us our menus and ask what food we wanted, etc. Very long. Not worth the 4.1 stars for sure. location seemed like a gimmick.

The setting is pleasant, but the kitchen management is catastrophic. At a table of 3 people, it clearly doesn't bother them to serve all the dishes drop by drop and have each person eat at a different time. Over 20 minutes of waiting between one burger and the next, go figure... Luckily, the servers were pleasant.

Never in my 3 years have I faced such racism in Netherlands. The waitress was extremely rude to me and my family. While she was being nice to other white people, for no reason I can fathom, she was just horrible :/

Terrible service, if not nonexistent. The servers were completely disorganized. The people at the next table left after waiting half an hour for the menu. We could have easily left without paying. The food was decent, but the deconstructed tartare was a bit odd. The only positive: the beauty of the historic setting. Avoid unless you have a lot of time to waste.

Nice Salmon tartar starter, but main and desert where quite average. Staff were very nice!

The setting is pretty, but the rest leaves something to be desired. The waitress was very haughty. Right from the start, they bring you four pieces of bread, which you pay €7.50 for, even though you didn't ask for anything. The meat comes without any side dishes; you have to pay extra if you want fries: €7 for a portion of fries, knowing that you're already paying €20 extra for your burger. The burger meat was very dry. We were extremely disappointed. Tourist scam. Avoid.

We liked the food, we had duck and chicken, potatoes and sweet potatoes with truffle sauce as a side dish, +2 beers and a bottle of water, it came to 76 euros, which is closer to €40 per person.

We sat inside hoping it would be less rowdy than on the outdoor terrace. Food was decent, and waitress was very nice, but the acoustic was horrendous and we could barely hear each other. Asked a guy at the front desk if we could be moved to a quieter table and they said - no, fully booked. Which was clearly a lie of convenience. Our waitress moved us to another table without blinking when asked, but alas, the volume of the other guests shouting (probably trying to get over the awful acoustic) made it still practically impossible to hear each other. We left as soon as we could. I understand it is a historic location, and so adjusting walls and ceilings for the acoustic is a no go, but there are so many things that can be done with acoustic damping under the tables and chairs, that it really is remiss they have overlooked the matter. Food was just barely 3 stars - burger was tasty but way too "wet" and hard to eat as it dripped milk-like mayonnaise and swam across the slate it was served on. Ribs were better.

Ter ere van pensioen met 17 personen heerlijk gegeten bij De Waag. Goede sfeer, vriendelijke en attente bediening, betaalbaar, prachtige locatie. Zeker doen nu veel restaurants zijn verworden in een 'tourist trap'! Ik kan er niet (nog) meer van maken:)

The restaurant is in a beautiful place, the terrace is beautiful. I recommend Tuna Tataki, excellently prepared, Crispy chiken and Chies Finger. The price of food for 3 people with one drink is about 60 euros. Friendly service, quiet and relaxed atmosphere. If you are visiting Amsterdam, I recommend this restaurant if you want to enjoy "regular" food. The building was built in 1466, which is a rarity and a special historical place. If you want to drink 1 liter of Gin and Tonic, this is the right place 😊

A nice location on a square in a monumental building, namely the Waaggebouw (formerly a city gate). They have a spacious terrace. Furniture felt old and slightly dirty. The service was friendly and fast.

Especially when we can see the waiters chatting, getting news orders, helping other people find tables, etc. The patio was not full at all. No wait. So why ignore your customers who are already at a table? I often bring guests here. I guess that ended today.

Sat outside on a lovely day. Services was attentive. Food was reasonably priced and fast. Nothing fancy but solid quality. House beer was a real winner. Could recommend if you are in the area and want lunch in around 45 minutes (at a castle!) without too much faff.

We spent some time on the beautiful balcony, sitting and chatting in the sun. The food and the beers were good and service was friendly.
