They were closed at 17:50 instead of 18:00. I changed my plans in order to still make it, but they had already locked the door and were cleaning. It looked like they had closed it even before that as well. There was another customer that came behind me at 17:55 as well. But she couldn’t enter as well. I just wanted a cupcake :/

We came to this safe place for lunch. We received a super warm welcome, the club sandwich was delicious (with a very welcome veggie option), and we even indulged in some cupcakes and banana bread which were absolutely divine! The setting is lovely, the location is great, in short, we went twice. Thank you so much, I highly recommend it!

It was really delicious again. We had the high tea. But compared to the past 10 years that we have been doing this annually, the selection is getting smaller regarding the savory section. No more choice in juices and sandwiches, and no more soup. But the price keeps going up. A shame.

The place was very dirty, and unfortunately, the staff was quite rude and unfriendly. The matcha had a strange fishy smell, so I ended up throwing it away. It’s a real shame because the place has a lot of potential to be cozy and welcoming. However, the lack of cleanliness and the attitude of the staff really ruined the experience. If I were the owner, I would seriously reconsider the current staff and make sure the place is kept clean and that customers are treated properly.

I recently ate at De Drie Graefjes. The cakes are super tasty, but there is a lot of room for improvement in terms of service. The waitresses/cashier staff came across as very uninterested and haughty. They couldn't manage a smile and didn't return a greeting upon entry. Also, when ordering the food, I felt like I was bothering the staff, as they preferred not to talk to customers. I rarely leave reviews, but I left here with an unpleasant feeling. It's a shame, because again, the food is incredibly tasty and the café is in a pleasant location.

7-7-2026 | Visit between 13:30 and 14:30 Today, after having moved away from Amsterdam for 5 years, I finally returned to one of my favorite spots. I was really looking forward to it, precisely because I have such fond memories of the service from the past. Fortunately, we were quickly given a nice table, which was very pleasant with my young son. However, after that, we felt a bit forgotten. After about 15 to 20 minutes, I walked over to the counter myself to ask for a menu. I received one immediately with apologies, which I appreciated. After we had made a choice, unfortunately, no one came to take our order again. After about another 10 minutes, I therefore walked back to the counter to order myself, which is not very practical with a young child present. What also struck me was that the staff were audibly communicating amongst themselves about how busy it was. I heard, among other things, that people were sighing because everyone needed something, and later that they were happy things were getting quieter. That is, of course, very understandable – I work in a management position within the service industry myself and know how hectic it can be. That is precisely why I also know how important it is for guests to continue feeling welcome. A small smile or a quick check-in makes a big difference in that regard. 😊 The drinks took a while to arrive. Unfortunately, my americano was very bitter; even with sugar, I couldn't make it taste good. Fortunately, the food made up for it. The avocado toast with scrambled eggs was delicious, and my son also enjoyed his cheese melt and raspberry lemonade. Later, I ordered a Mango Matcha, because the americano was unfortunately not a success. I would have liked the mango flavor to be a bit more pronounced, but otherwise, it was a delicious and beautifully presented matcha. We also took cupcakes home, and fortunately, they are just as tasty as I remembered. All in all, this remains a lovely place with good food and drinks. My only point for improvement would be the service. With a little more attention to the guests and somewhat more proactive staff, the experience would be just as good as I remember from the past.

I found De Drie Graefjes through Google Maps after seeing the photos and decided to give it a try. We had a slice of Blondie cake and a slice of Red Velvet cake with coffee, and the total came to around €16. Unfortunately, both cakes seemed a bit old or not completely fresh, as they were quite dry instead of moist. They still tasted good, but the texture was disappointing. The Red Velvet cake had a very thick layer of frosting on the outside, but almost no frosting between the cake layers, which I think may have contributed to it drying out. Overall, it was okay, but based on the photos and reputation, I expected fresher and more moist cakes.

I bought spring rolls online. I can't find them to order again.

We ordered the red velvet cupcake and the Oreo red velvet cake slice combo. The portions were huge and honestly made us happy just looking at them. The mixed flavor combination didn’t really stand out to me, but the red velvet cupcake itself was delicious. The cream cheese frosting paired so well with the cake that I couldn’t stop taking another bite. However, the cake itself is a bit too dry so I’ll probably give it 3.5 stars. Next time, I’d go for the classic red velvet cake slice instead. If they could make the cake more soft and moist , it would be really great!

Super fun, delicious, and cozy high tea. The staff was extremely friendly, we had a lovely spot by the window, and the snacks were delicious. For the savory round, we received delicious sandwiches and a quiche. There was also a variety of tea. The seating was phenomenal. We sat by the window overlooking the water and had such a lovely view of the outside. The staff was very friendly and sweet and ensured everything was to our liking. Tip: To make the high tea even more enjoyable, perhaps it would be a good idea to purchase fresh tea? This truly provides the ultimate high tea experience. Additionally, the sweet round was very large and rich; it might be a good idea to offer a variety of smaller snacks. A nice bonus was that we could take the snacks home with us. We were even able to pop into Amsterdam for a bit and then pick them up again at the venue. All in all, we are super satisfied!

Quick service and easy to order.

De Drie Graefjes Rokin is a busy lunchroom and American Bakery right in the center of Amsterdam, best known for large slices of homemade pie and red velvet cake, as well as sticks. Inside, it feels like a typical city lunch spot: relatively small, often full, with a display case full of pies and a menu featuring generously filled sandwiches, clubs, salads, soups, and good coffee and tea. Personally, I found the espresso quite strong, more like a cappuccino, but that could be a matter of taste. I love a medium blend.

So dry and got no cream but heavy dry cake. Just don’t go and eat at Bun bun or Saint Jean or i dont know somewhere else..

Food delicious, service downstairs appallingly bad. Waiting 15 minutes and then having to pick up your menu yourself at the counter, then waiting another 15 minutes and then going to the counter yourself to place your order, and still getting no apology or anything. It's not like it was busy at 3:30 or I was hiding in a corner (right in front of the counter..)

If you're looking for less sugary desserts without feeling guilty about your health, this is the place!

I have been getting cakes from De Drie Graefjes for years, absolutely delicious!! Unfortunately, the cakes are now only half covered in frosting. Shame. Price increase of almost €20 on a cake.

Almost best kept secret of Amsterdam, but i guess the secret is out.

The cake was ok, bit overhyped. Frosting was intense and the service was slow, the gave us the wrong order at first.

Upon entering, you immediately walk past all the treats. There are seating areas downstairs and more space upstairs. The staff is young and efficient. I took the €20 lunch deal (club sandwich of your choice, drink, and cupcake). The avocado club sandwich had very little smashed avocado. The bread was not toasted, which is how it should be for a club sandwich. As it was, it was mostly just a soggy mess. The juice of the day was strawberry, peach, and apple; this was tasty and fresh. The carrot cupcake was moist, and the frosting was not too sweet and creamy. All in all, a good deal. The mint tea had a lot of green leaves, so it was very good.

I bought a cake for my 16th birthday that I wanted with a Sweet 16 on it; tell me why you are making such a fuss about that QQ icing. I didn't ask for capital letters btw. You can clearly see there is still plenty of room to spread it to the sides, but okay, this might still be reasonable if it were a freezer cake (€40). It would be helpful if you gave customers instructions when dropping off the cakes. Since my cake was rock hard when I wanted to eat it with my friends at the end of the party. I went to the shop for a red velvet cake. I was received very kindly by the employee. And the cake was delicious!

Red velvet cake was nice especially well balanced with the creamcheese. The cake itself was a bit dry. The service was friendly and quick. However, what bothered me most was a group of three girls on the seating area outside on the second floor. They lit up a blund and were smoking. Consequently, departed the smoke to the inside. This immediately affected our experience as the smell was potent. Also, were they very lousy. Even though the staff closed the door. It was either reopened by these girls going inside and out or by slowly opening on its own. In my opinion should a cafe that does not sell weed, prohibit their guest from smoking on their primises. As many guest were uncomfortable by the smell. Overall a strange experience... It does seem that this happens often as the staff was unfaced by this behaviour.

Normally I write positive reviews and I also like De Drie Graefjes usually but I usually pick up. So usually 5 stars for the baked goods. However, the service today was horrible. I worked in horeca too, but please hire people who know how to treat customers. Went there 30 min before closing to eat cupcakes with coffees (went with friends) but before ordering it was already mentioned not to sit or stand inside to consume as they close in 30 min (we would have needed 10 max). So we didn’t end up ordering anything. From an owner’s perspective, you have lost a couple cupcake orders and drinks. Multiply that a dozen times a day/month ;)

I visited De Drie Graefjes at 5:30 PM with two friends to buy cupcakes. We were told we couldn’t order drinks or sit because it was already 5:30, even though the shop closes at 6:00 PM. I wonder whether this is an official policy (no seating 30 minutes before closing) or if the staff simply didn’t want us to sit. Either way, it felt unwelcoming and resulted in lost orders. I hope this can be handled more clearly in the future.

De 3 Graafjes Bakery is located on a lively and beautiful street in Amsterdam and is very easy to find. The central location makes it a convenient stop, whether you are exploring the city or simply craving something sweet. As soon as you walk in, you notice that the bakery is quite compact and small, but it is also very cozy and warmly decorated, creating an inviting and comfortable atmosphere. The interior feels charming and intimate, although the music did not always fully match the overall vibe. At times it felt more like gym or workout music, which slightly clashed with the cozy bakery setting. A softer music choice, such as jazz or calm background music, would fit the atmosphere much better and enhance the overall experience. When it comes to the cakes, the quality varies. The carrot cake was not the best carrot cake I have ever had. It was quite dense and compact in texture, though it clearly reflects their own interpretation of a carrot cake. While it wasn’t outstanding, it was still enjoyable and perfectly fine. The chocolate cake, on the other hand, was excellent. It was rich, indulgent, and full of flavor, with a delicious and well-balanced buttercream that truly stood out. The tea was a bit disappointing, as it was served as a regular tea bag. I had expected a loose-leaf infusion or something more special, which would have matched the quality of the cakes better. One of the biggest highlights of De 3 Graafjes Bakery is the staff. The server forgot one of our orders, which can happen, but instead of rushing to get the last order (a slice of cake), it took half an hour. Many other orders were delivered in the meantime, and our server frequently went to the kitchen, but our cake remained missing. When the cake finally arrived, the others had finished their food, and we were 40 minutes late. Moreover, the meringue on the lemon meringue cake was gritty; you could feel the sugar crystals on your teeth.

I asked for recommendation because everything looked super delicious! And what I got did not disappoint. One of the best cake I have ever eaten. Definitely recommend!!!

I had a lovely experience at De Drie Graefjes. I stopped in for a drink and a slice of red velvet cake and it was wonderful. The staff were very friendly, welcoming and attentive. I felt comfortable right away. It really felt like a little oasis in the middle of the busy city. The cake slices are large and incredibly delicious and the coffee is strong and well-made. I even took a slice home because it was so good! There are plenty of cozy seating areas upstairs and the free Wi-Fi makes it an easy place to relax for a while. A very charming café. I’ll definitely come back.

It is always a pleasure to visit De Drie Graefjes. The service is constantly great and there is a tempting selection of cakes on display. Their red velvet and mash-up cake are really tasty and firm favorites of mine. The generous slices of cake are a real bonus and make it feel well worth the price.

It's a great spot by the open window overlooking the Allard Pierson Museum. I find the seating downstairs less inviting. The service was super friendly. The toilet was unfortunately quite dirty.

Let me start by saying that the food was excellent. If you're coming here for a delicious piece of cake, I definitely recommend it. Unfortunately, lunch was a much worse experience. After ordering coffee and food, we waited 45 minutes for coffee and another half hour for the food. The waitress kept forgetting whether we spoke English or Dutch. The club sandwiches didn't have any toast, and they were very frugal with the sauce. The cake is good, the service is not.

I went to De Drie Graefjes on Rokin and tried the Red Velvet and the Red Velvet with Oreo, but unfortunately, my experience was very disappointing. The regular Red Velvet was tasteless; the cake was dry, and the frosting tasted sour and too heavy, making it completely unpalatable. With the Red Velvet with Oreo, the brown part of the cake was still edible, but the red part was dry and unpleasant. The Oreo frosting was bland and unappetizing. To make matters worse, I felt nauseous and developed symptoms after eating the cake. That shouldn't happen, especially not at a place with such a good reputation. I had high expectations, but unfortunately, everything was very disappointing. I will NOT be returning.

I was excited for high tea here but it was honestly the worst dining experience I’ve had. Service was non-existent — we waited 40+ minutes just for a teapot with one teabag, and “unlimited tea” was pointless since no one came back to refill. Food was slow and disappointing: cold, watery quiche, uneven service between tables, and sweets that were almost inedible (cheesecake and brownie tasted like playdough, the rest bland at best). 2 hours before we got served the sweet tier. The only positive was the portion size, but overall this was shockingly bad given the reputation.

Placed an order for my 30th bday and paid extra for the writing of “Fabulous 30”. I think the picture I uploaded says enough about the quality and the decor of the cake.. My 5 year old niece would have written it better and at least centered. 71 euros down the drain🙃

I went here because I'd read reviews about the best carrot cake in the Netherlands (my all-time favorite cake, you could almost call me a connoisseur), but unfortunately, I thought it was perhaps the least delicious carrot cake I've ever had. Strange texture, not much flavor, and a bit soggy. I liked the frosting, but it didn't make the rest of the cake any better; I left it after a few bites. 😅 You do get a very large slice, though, so that's great! The coffee was delicious, and I also had a cookie that I also found very tasteless and dry. Maybe I was on a bad day. The staff was very friendly, and the atmosphere is nice!

The sandwich was a little overpriced, but it was really good. It's a shame because neither the smoothie nor the juice were available. The bathroom was something indescribable, and it deserves a star for its ambiance.

Really a very nice place with delicious food. If you want to quickly eat a sandwich and/or cake, this is the place to go.

What a huge disappointment the Drie Graafjes lemon meringue tart was! You expect a fresh, airy lemon bavarois, beautifully spread on a crispy almond paste base, topped with a lightly charred, perfectly applied meringue. But this tart was a complete failure. The base was rock hard, far too thick, and completely tasteless. It tasted like cardboard. The filling was incredibly heavy, dense, and grainy—absolutely not the light lemon filling you'd hope for. And the icing on the cake: the meringue was full of undissolved granulated sugar that crunched between your teeth. It looked like this tart had been thrown together by a first-year student. A real disappointment, absolutely not recommended!

We got takeaway cakes for tea at a friend's house and my goodness, they were so amazing. Honestly the best cake I've ever had. The red velvet was stunning and my friend loved her carrot cake. Absolute "write home about" place. Hubby and I are now gluten free so I hope on our next visit to Amsterdam we might still be able to have something!

I usually come here for the cakes, but this time I decided to try something different and have a meal instead. Unfortunately, it was quite a letdown. I ordered the avocado toast – something I often enjoy elsewhere – but what I got was literally just dry toast with a blob of avocado slapped on top. No seasoning, no flair, just… bland. Tried to save it with some salt & peper, but no. It came with some uninspired nacho chips on the side as well, which didn’t help much either. I ended up sending it back. Apparently, you can add extra toppings (for an extra charge), but honestly, the basic version should still be decent enough to serve. There were a few other small things too, but I think this review is already long enough. Next time, I’ll happily stick to the cakes

Ordered a cake from the UK for a family member currently living in Amsterdam. They were super-helpful, and responded immediately when I was struggling with the website. They also were very flexible in agreeing to the special wording I wanted on the cake. The prices are very reasonable. I am very grateful for their assistance in helping to make this a special celebration even though he will be away from home. Update: My son received his cake and reported it tasted great! Lovely and moist without too much frosting. Thank you once again.

Lunch deal taken for 19,0. Club sandwich was delicious and large portion. Fruit juice was nice but tasted mainly like apple juice and the cupcake tasted good but fell apart a bit.

In terms of taste, these are the best cupcakes and cakes I've ever had. Almost always perfect – I look forward to the carrot cupcake every time I come to Amsterdam. I absolutely recommend it.

Today I had a wonderful time at **Bakkerij De Drie Graefjes**. The **Red Velvet cake** was fantastic—fluffy, flavorful, and just what you would expect from this classic. It came with a cup of **herbal tea**, which was perfect to balance out the sweet pastry. What made the experience even better was the **friendly service**. The girl serving was **super helpful and sweet**, which made the visit feel extra pleasant. All in all, a nice place to enjoy a delicious treat in a welcoming atmosphere. ❤️
