Good and varied food. Friendly service.

Had lunch and dinner here yesterday. Lunch was great, but dinner (pasta Vongole) left something to be desired. It was prepared nicely, but unfortunately the pasta was hard and not even 'al dente'. It's a shame that something so simple wasn't cooked through... The staff were very friendly and there was a nice atmosphere on the terrace. Still, definitely recommended!

Had lunch with good friends. Service extremely friendly. Had to ask for ordered drinks several times. Steak tartare downright bad. Not freshly minced meat, but small balls of grey, tasteless meat. When complaining, the feedback I received was that the chef found it difficult to mince it fresh every time. The rest of the table was reasonably satisfied. Visited four years ago. Back then it was really top-notch. Price-quality ratio is a joke.

Generally a good place and everything runs smoothly. But stay away during the silly season; the service is sloppy and pays little attention to customers.

We are from Leerdam and have been having lunch at De Hoofdwacht for years. Unfortunately, the last three times have been very disappointing. Not tasty, and yesterday the bread was even tough, with an unusually high amount of salt on the food. A real shame for such a special restaurant.

Had a great lunch with a view of the Grote Markt, full of terraces. The Flamkuchen with bacon are delicious.

I ate there yesterday, informed them of my allergy, and they took it into account. However, unfortunately, I still had an allergic reaction, and the chef couldn't understand how that was possible since they had prepared everything separately! They made every effort to find out what had gone wrong! They were concerned, very helpful, and kind to me in helping me, so I give them a ⭐Xtra for service. Thank you all.

The food and atmosphere on the terrace are a delight. However, the service could be much better (more proactive and customer-oriented).

A day out with my wife. We walked from Sleeuwijk to Woudrichem and from there took the ferry to Gorinchem. There, on the square in front of the Museum next to the fountain, we sat on the lovely terrace in the sun. We had a drink and a small snack and enjoyed the location and the weather. Beautiful location with good service. Nice and efficient and cheerful staff. Highly recommended for a place to sit down and unwind. After a short stay, we headed back to the ferry to Sleeuwijk.

Very tasteless food. We were able to return it. But the toasted sandwich we had as a replacement was also of very minimal quality compared to what you would expect from a restaurant L. We received a free drink.

My husband had a tuna bagel for lunch and I had Egg Benedict. Both were very tasty. A very nicely decorated place on a beautiful square.

We used to come here more often a long time ago. Back then, Ewe still lived in Gorinchem. There has been no loss of atmosphere or quality. The service was decent, but not really anything special. With all the outdoor cafes around the market, a little extra attention can be just that extra plus point. The food is fine and the prices are quite good. Because it was still a bit chilly, there were blankets at every table. Kudos!

Unfortunately, we weren't allowed to order drinks, even though we behaved perfectly. They said they wouldn't give us more than two drinks because "they weren't a pub." It wasn't my idea to get drunk on a Saturday night either. It was a real shame about this place; the staff wouldn't cooperate with us. The young staff, who were willing to cooperate, didn't understand their policy either.

Very bad experience, satay tasteless, food was cold, fries way too salty, grilled vegetables seemed canned to me and made no sense at all, and very little of everything, inexperienced staff and no knowledge of the subject. Asked if we enjoyed it, we told them we didn't, and then it was silent... and really expensive for the quality of food you get. So I would never eat there again. There are plenty of other places, and certainly better than this one, or rather the Hoofdwacht.

It is a great place to sit at the main market in Gorinchem! Outside, you can enjoy sitting on a heated terrace. Inside, there is a wonderful ambiance. A lovely way to relax with your friends or family. We were here in the afternoon with friends. We had a nice table outside with a view of the square. In good weather, it certainly invites you to sit on the terrace. In late summer, we sat here in a warm and pleasant spot. The staff are friendly and approachable. They are eager to help and offer advice. The red wine (Rioja) is not recommended, but the other red wines were fine. That is a matter of personal taste. Furthermore, we had some bar snacks and a nice charcuterie board here. Sitting here for a few hours and catching up is highly recommended. The menu looked good too. So I would definitely recommend it if you want to eat, have lunch or dinner here, or just enjoy a drink. All in all, we will be back. Also, visit the charming city center.

What an atmospheric, beautiful, and spacious restaurant! Had a delicious meal! Beautifully situated right in the historic center of the fortified city of Gorinchem.

The service was a bit on the slow side. The menu is affordable, but it isn't particularly special. It's fine for a quick lunch.

The food was certainly fine but not groundbreaking, but the service was absolutely top-notch. I was there during nice weather; the terrace was full, so we were able to sit inside. The waitress offered to put us on the waiting list, which was very kind. Then it started raining heavily, so the entire terrace moved inside, without any grumbling from the crew and without any hassle. We still had to run a quick errand, so the waitress advised us to let her know when we were finished after the starter, so the kitchen could wait. The boy who came to clear the table already knew: "Do we have to wait a moment?" Perfect communication between them. In the meantime, the waitress hadn't forgotten about us; when it stopped raining, she followed up on her promise: "Would you like to sit outside?" Class act.

Hoofdwacht is always good! There's a good atmosphere, and the service is fast and personal.

We had a great meal at Hoodwacht in Gorinchem. I have to say, the weather was fantastic, so we sat outside under a parasol. Incidentally, the interior is also a unique space, with a beautiful circular mezzanine. Really nice! I had the spareribs, which just looking at them, fell off the bone. To be honest, that's not how I like them best, as I like them to have a bit of bite left in them, but... the ribs were well marinated in a fairly spicy sauce and were delicious. No container for the leftover skeletons, no problem. My companion was very enthusiastic about the city chicken (I'm not sure if that was the name... apparently it was called "stadskip"), and the others about their chosen poke bowls. A couple of Leffe Blonds followed, thanks to the warm weather, and we left satisfied.

It really is a top-notch restaurant, very atmospheric! And fantastic staff, I definitely recommend having a bite to eat here.

We had a delicious lunch at a very reasonable price. An omelet for around 11 euros, fantastic! Cross-contamination occurred in the kitchen with a gluten-free dish we ordered. The kitchen apologized and even gave us a free drink for the wait/inconvenience. Great service and definitely worth 4 stars. 😃

The food was delicious. The service outside was friendly and fast. When it started raining, we wanted to sit inside. We were immediately approached and directed to the garden area. We looked for a cozy spot, but were immediately confronted by the staff. The table was meant for larger groups; we were supposed to sit at a table for two. We reluctantly accepted, as it's very unfriendly. Then other people arrived, also two people, and they took the cozy, larger table. We felt discriminated against. We confronted the staff, and management was called. It's a shame the aftertaste of the delicious food was so disappointing.

Spent a lovely evening on the patio with friends. Friendly and good service. Highly recommended.

Somehow they haven't got it under control the last few times we've been there. Food is good otherwise but you have to be patient for it. And when it comes it sometimes comes double🤷

Friendly staff and you will be helped quickly

Unfortunately our 2nd negative experience in a row. Last year we took the weekly menu, chose a different dish as a main course that had exactly the same price as the main course in the weekly menu. Suddenly the weekly menu no longer applied and we had to pay for all dishes separately. We heard that afterwards and it should have been communicated better or, better yet, just mentioned on the menu that you are not allowed to deviate from it without having to pay extra. Result; paid €25 more on top of the price of 2x the weekly menu. Now we both just ordered a meal salad as a main course. What a disgrace. The taste was fine, but here too the "shrinkflation" has clearly struck. It was just a starter and certainly not a meal salad. We reported it and got the response that "some people find it too much (I think that's unlikely, but oh well..) and some people too little". That was it. We are now home and are eating a shawarma sandwich. No more De Hoofdwacht for us for the time being.

At first glance a nice place. Service was not bad, but not fast or efficient either. We sat outside and it was not busy, but it took quite a while before we were helped. I ordered a Flammkuchen with salmon and it was really not tasty. It was a mountain of soggy greasy dough, lots of cheese and fried salmon, while a Flammkuchen should be very crispy. Service did nothing with it either. Too bad!

The sweet sambal on the Zeewolf dish is too spicy. And it makes you no longer taste the fish. Otherwise a great one.

Gorinchem is een hele leuke plaats, waar je je gauw thuisvoelt. We hadden gehoopt op een goede afsluiting met een lekker diner. De coq au vin die we nuttigde was van een zeer slechte kwaliteit. Het was.niet vers en uit de vriezer gehaald en opgewarmd. De kip was droog en de rode wijn was ver te zoeken. Het was een nat en onsmakelijk geheel. De kok moet nog veel bijleren. Het deed afbreuk aan onze dag in Gorinchem. Nóóit weer bij deze tent. Ook slecht voor Gorinchem.

We had ordered the main civilian guard together. This one really wasn't good. The meat was way too red, and just not tasty. Had a lot of pain in our stomach in the evening. Fries were tasty and the service was very friendly.

Went for lunch with friends. Really cozy. Prices are okay. Service simply great. And, our puppy 🐶 was allowed inside. The first thing they did was a bowl of water.👍 Super.

Unfortunately had a very bad experience. Staff was not flexible and unfriendly. Because of this I decided not to order anymore and leave. A shame, because the atmosphere is great. Update: our visit was on November 18, 2024. In response to the response, I shared my disappointing findings in an email, but no further response was received. This is even more disappointing than the visit itself.
