We had a delicious lunch at a very reasonable price. An omelet for around 11 euros, fantastic! Cross-contamination occurred in the kitchen with a gluten-free dish we ordered. The kitchen apologized and even gave us a free drink for the wait/inconvenience. Great service and definitely worth 4 stars. 😃

The food was delicious. The service outside was friendly and fast. When it started raining, we wanted to sit inside. We were immediately approached and directed to the garden area. We looked for a cozy spot, but were immediately confronted by the staff. The table was meant for larger groups; we were supposed to sit at a table for two. We reluctantly accepted, as it's very unfriendly. Then other people arrived, also two people, and they took the cozy, larger table. We felt discriminated against. We confronted the staff, and management was called. It's a shame the aftertaste of the delicious food was so disappointing.

Spent a lovely evening on the patio with friends. Friendly and good service. Highly recommended.

Somehow they haven't got it under control the last few times we've been there. Food is good otherwise but you have to be patient for it. And when it comes it sometimes comes double🤷

Friendly staff and you will be helped quickly

Unfortunately our 2nd negative experience in a row. Last year we took the weekly menu, chose a different dish as a main course that had exactly the same price as the main course in the weekly menu. Suddenly the weekly menu no longer applied and we had to pay for all dishes separately. We heard that afterwards and it should have been communicated better or, better yet, just mentioned on the menu that you are not allowed to deviate from it without having to pay extra. Result; paid €25 more on top of the price of 2x the weekly menu. Now we both just ordered a meal salad as a main course. What a disgrace. The taste was fine, but here too the "shrinkflation" has clearly struck. It was just a starter and certainly not a meal salad. We reported it and got the response that "some people find it too much (I think that's unlikely, but oh well..) and some people too little". That was it. We are now home and are eating a shawarma sandwich. No more De Hoofdwacht for us for the time being.

At first glance a nice place. Service was not bad, but not fast or efficient either. We sat outside and it was not busy, but it took quite a while before we were helped. I ordered a Flammkuchen with salmon and it was really not tasty. It was a mountain of soggy greasy dough, lots of cheese and fried salmon, while a Flammkuchen should be very crispy. Service did nothing with it either. Too bad!

The sweet sambal on the Zeewolf dish is too spicy. And it makes you no longer taste the fish. Otherwise a great one.

Gorinchem is een hele leuke plaats, waar je je gauw thuisvoelt. We hadden gehoopt op een goede afsluiting met een lekker diner. De coq au vin die we nuttigde was van een zeer slechte kwaliteit. Het was.niet vers en uit de vriezer gehaald en opgewarmd. De kip was droog en de rode wijn was ver te zoeken. Het was een nat en onsmakelijk geheel. De kok moet nog veel bijleren. Het deed afbreuk aan onze dag in Gorinchem. Nóóit weer bij deze tent. Ook slecht voor Gorinchem.

In the sun on a terrace with a coffee and a mocktail: that's all it should be! If you add smooth service and a nice chat with other guests, then it only gets better. Beautiful decor and very clean toilets.

We had ordered the main civilian guard together. This one really wasn't good. The meat was way too red, and just not tasty. Had a lot of pain in our stomach in the evening. Fries were tasty and the service was very friendly.

Went for lunch with friends. Really cozy. Prices are okay. Service simply great. And, our puppy 🐶 was allowed inside. The first thing they did was a bowl of water.👍 Super.

Unfortunately had a very bad experience. Staff was not flexible and unfriendly. Because of this I decided not to order anymore and leave. A shame, because the atmosphere is great. Update: our visit was on November 18, 2024. In response to the response, I shared my disappointing findings in an email, but no further response was received. This is even more disappointing than the visit itself.

Fantastic food, Tournedos and the Caterpillar. Definitely worth it. And dinner menu starts at 11:30. Yes this was really good and large portions.

Outside on the terrace, super sweet service from a young man. The patio heater came on immediately. Was attentive and thoughtful. Pastries and coffee were delicious.

Nice restaurant where we have already eaten a number of times. Staff was very friendly, both when taking orders and showing genuine interest in whether everything was to your liking. Also a nice place to eat out in terms of price.

If I want to be sure that my food is good and I can sit comfortably, I go to the main guard. As long as it has been there it has been stable in terms of food quality and purpose. Decoration is also tasteful.

Today, due to my own stupidity, I got red wine all over me. Completely covered in red wine: jacket, clothes, pants. I was completely wet. The staff did everything they could to help me. Gave clean cloths, tea towels, etc. My compliments, which really limited the damage!! Without this staff it would have been a real misery. Now it was just fine. My thanks are great!!! Especially to the girl with the dark hair, who served outside today. We had also ordered snacks, asked if they could cancel them. This was possible. The kitchen was immediately informed by the staff. Personally I think one of the most beautiful restaurants in Gorinchem. In terms of atmosphere really great! In the summer a large terrace and in the winter you can sit outside covered, but inside the real atmosphere is.... 2 floors, but downstairs there is enough space. Recommended to go there once

Delicious dinner. On Christmas Day we were served excellently by Chris. A very tasty 4-course dinner, really Christmas worthy. Unfortunately there is no more room this Christmas, a recommendation for 2025 🧑‍🎄

I traditionally celebrated my birthday (75 years) here with my brother. When I was about 14 years old I lived in Hotel Centraal: the second part of the Hoofdwacht. Very nice thing; more than sufficient menu. Hard working and knowledgeable staff. Is RECOMMENDED. Make a reservation.

What a fantastic location. On the square with a view of the fountain and the Gorcums museum. The quality is top, everything home made and fresh. The service is helpful and friendly and gives good advice.

Hier kom ik nooit meer!!! Wij zijn van België op uitstap met een hoop oudere mensen. Wij willen gezellig nog iets komen drinken. We komen aan op terras en zetten ons rustig neer komen ze naar ons toe. Zeer brutaal en onvriendelijk u mag hier niet zomaar komen zitten en de tafels verschuiven wat wij dus totaal niet gedaan hebben. Dan vragen we omdat het intens begon te regenen of we binnen mochten zitten. Ze zeiden neen dit mag niet… We zijn dan toch door 1 iemand geholpen en mochten we toch binnen zitten. Dan bestelde we 2 maal warme bittergarnituren krijgen we 1 portie bitterballen. We roepen terug iemand en die vrouw bleef zeggen neen mevrouw u heeft bitterballen gezegd. We zijn hier met 5 man aan tafel die bevestigen dat we wel degelijk bittergarnituren hadden gezegd en toch neen u heeft heel duidelijk bitterballen gezegd en dan weer zo onvriendelijke manier!!! Echt schandalig!!! Mooie zaak maar het personeel….!!! Helemaal niet vriendelijk en brutaal!!!

I will never come here again!!! We are on a trip from Belgium with a lot of older people. We would like to come and have a drink. We arrive on the terrace and sit down quietly, they come to us. Very rude and unfriendly, you are not allowed to just sit here and move the tables, which we did not do at all. Then we ask because it started to rain heavily if we could sit inside. They said no, this is not allowed... We were helped by one person and were allowed to sit inside. Then we ordered 2 warm appetizers and received 1 portion of bitterballen. We call someone back and that woman kept saying no ma'am, you said bitterballen. We are here with 5 people at the table who confirm that we had indeed said bitter garnishes and yet no, you very clearly said bitterballen in such an unfriendly manner!!! Really scandalous!!! Nice place but the staff sucks!!! Not friendly and rude at all!!!

I had the Vega bowl. Unfortunately there was salmon in it... Vega is also without fish.

Our favorite lunch spot in Gorinchem. We cycle here from Deil along our favorite cycle route. And then have lunch here. The August burger is my favorite

My wife ordered a salad with red cabbage in sweet and sour as the second ingredient, but received regular lettuce without red cabbage. As consolation she later received a bowl of red cabbage. Without excuse. So I will never recommend this Restaurant!

Vriendelijke bediening, prachtig terras op de Grote Markt en voortreffelijk eten! Zowel de lunch als het diner! En binnen ziet het restaurant er prachtig uit! Ook op de eerste etage kijken. Dus met fris weervoorspelling een goede keuze!

Great place to have a drink on a terrace. Location is very cozy in the middle of the square. After a nice drink we ate something. The bouncer Hoofdwacht is definitely recommended! Staff is also very friendly. I will definitely come back here :)

What a great place, a nice cup of coffee on the terrace in the afternoon. When the waiter came to ask us what we wanted to drink, our dog was not forgotten and promptly offered a bowl of water. After exploring the old town we went back for dinner. Once again, our dog was immediately taken care of. The service was top notch and the food delicious. It's been a long time since we had such a good meal. This is a top store with fantastic service. Keep up the good work, if we are ever in the area again we will definitely come back.👍👍👍

The place is very nice, located right in front of the Gorcum Museums. Delicious food and delicious drinks. Friendly and agile service. If the weekend is very full, you have to queue for your seat.
