De Kostery in Centrum

The meal salad at €16 was more of a side dish than a main course. Very minimal. The beer had probably only been in the fridge for an hour, so it wasn't fully cold. The staff listened to everything but took no further action. I won't be coming back here.

A nice place, though a bit noisy in the restaurant. The staff is decent, but not very talkative. The food tastes fine, but our ciabattas were impossible to cut through with a knife.

I had chosen this restaurant because I wanted to show a foreign guest a beautiful part of the city. That was a huge mistake. The location is beautiful and the service is friendly, but the food is below par. Cheap bread, sparsely topped with some sad slices of cucumber, tomato, an indistinct brown sauce, and either a dollop of tasteless hummus (for my guest) or a few pieces of bright yellow and bone-dry chicken. That chicken was so dry that I had to rinse it down with water to avoid choking on it. I had to pay well over €40 (!!!) for two sandwiches and two beers. Moreover, I felt ashamed in front of my guest. All in all, this was a huge disappointment.

Before I ordered a glass of prosecco, I asked the waiter how many ml it was. She said 200ml. In reality it was 100ml. I complained about the situtaion, since I did not get what I ordered. They did not solve the problem anyhow. I eneded up paying full price for half the promised product. Not satisfied. Would never have ordered 100ml for that price..

Ordered prosecco. Asked how much ML per glass. Waiter said 200ml. We got 100ml per glass. This was a mistake by the waiter wich she apologized for. The waiter was friendly and patient. But the owner didnt want to resolve the issue. Not even getting what we paid for. Why? For the rest a nice place, but that experience was just weird.

Stunning location, but the staff are inexperienced and you have to wait a very long time for them. Friendly though! Drinks are fine, food mediocre. This beautiful place has more potential.

Kostery is always my favorite, but only because time seems to stand still there, transporting me to another era. Its very Dutch food isn't what fascinates me.

I've walked past this place several times. It's right near the Martini Tower. So, four stars for the ambiance and the location. Unfortunately, that was my first and last time there. I ordered a large beer for €7. What I got was a 0.3-liter plastic cup. Okay, I thought the hopelessly overwhelmed staff might have made a mistake and brought me a small beer. But when the bill came, they told me it was a large one. Absolutely outrageous. The Aperol Spritz also came in a plastic cup, completely uninspired, and the cup was only half full, maybe 0.15 liters at most. €15.10 for these two drinks. By far the worst experience in Groningen. What a shame.

During our trip to Groningen, we passed by this lovely restaurant. We were thirsty and enjoyed some delicious local beer in a pleasant atmosphere. The location is fantastic, right in the city center, next to the Martini Tower. The staff was incredibly kind and friendly. The fact that they serve local beer is great! It's definitely worth a visit, and we'll certainly be back! Highly recommended!! Greetings from Switzerland and see you next time!!!!

I had a great experience. The service was excellent and friendly and the food was good. It is located right at the Martini tower. Steep and small stairs to higher floors.

We had a high wine/beer dinner at De Kosterij. A beautiful spot at the foot of the Martini Tower. There were three courses of wine/beer and also three courses of appetizers! The wine pairing wasn't as good (Verdejo with the chimichurri and the burger), but the beer paired well with the burger. The salmon was a perfect match with the Chilean Rosé (Sauvignon grape). The high beer started off a bit unusually with a pilsner (HJ). When they wanted to finish with a Corona with the burger, they easily served a more suitable Leffe Blond. The waitresses were lovely, and the chef had made a perfect chimichurri sauce. The pepper sauce with the shrimp was also deliciously spicy!

tourist place, as they say you can't pass by, when the sun is shining, there is no place. You have to wait to sit down from walking. The beer is great, but the "bitterballs" are a strange snack.💪💪💪💪💪 we are visiting again

Really good experience. I had to wait for the Martini Tower to open so I went there for a French breakfast. It was delicious. The staff was nice and the location lovely. Surrounded by nice people, calm atmosphere I really appreciated being there... Will definitely come back if I ever find myself back in Groningen Thanks

The staff are very friendly, if you have a cold, go for the prawns, they will make your nose runny, the English breakfast was delicious, no salt or pepper is needed for the scrambled eggs, really recommended if you are in the area

Location with a lot of untapped potential. Advice: absolutely do not go there with young children; they have nothing and you will wait a long time. The terrace is larger than the venue can handle, so expect long wait times when it is busy. We have been here twice in a relatively short time; we had forgotten how the first visit went. Conclusion: Fine if it absolutely does not deviate from the standard. Ask for something different (e.g., a toasted sandwich, croissant, or even the bill); assume that you will have to ask at least one more time and wait a long time... Incident: We had been sitting there for quite a while (for lunch) and were finally served. We placed our order from the menu and asked if they had anything for a child; a toasted sandwich? "Well, no, actually not, but we do have a schnitzel menu..."; maybe croissants from the breakfast menu?! "I'll just check with the chef." After waiting for a while and not receiving an answer, I walked over to her again to ask if a toasted sandwich would be possible. "Yes, that should be possible, my colleague is checking"... After receiving our order, there was nothing on it for our child. We were told that her colleague had just walked over to the cook. After a while longer, someone came to ask if a cheese croissant was good; fine?! After waiting for a while again, a croissant arrived... This was the last time here. A shame.

Unfortunately, no espresso martinis, even though they are located at the Martini Tower… :(

Nice location and pleasant to sit for a while. The portions are small and the waiter was rude; when he asked if we wanted anything else, we answered no, to which he said in a very unfriendly tone: “Then you will have to pay.” We only sat there for an hour.

We were not treated kindly, the waiter was very rude and inattentive. The table was dirty from the previous person but no effort was made to wipe it down. Today was a very nice, warm day and we thought a bite to eat and a drink would be just the thing. Simply put, we chose the wrong place. We waited ages for our drinks, around 20 minutes, and then it took even longer for him to take our food order. Our glasses were empty and nothing. Only after calling several times did he reluctantly come over to us and simply brought me the lukewarm vegetarian option, and instead of grilled chicken, there was boiled, yellow-colored chicken. We cannot recommend the place.

Waited 20min for someone to take our order, 1h for only one fries(never got them), got a “medium” orange juice that is insanely small size and the waitresses were rude and not friendly. Terrible service.

The food quality is generally average for the Netherlands, nothing outstanding. On the other hand, the service is good and relatively fast for the country.

We kwamen om half zeven aan , er is een dinerkaart, maar we kregen te horen dat de keuken dicht was. Als argument dat het terras in de schaduw was,(?.? !). Wij zaten nog gezellig te praten toen het meisje de kussens begon te verzamelen. Erg ongastvrij allemaal

Hebben er een goede lunch gehad. Wel met een nasmaak! Ik heb m’n zonnebril op sterke laten liggen op de terras tafel. Men heeft deze gevonden maar men reageerde nu niet meer op m’n verzoeken deze tegen de gemaakte kosten op te zenden??? Na ca 14 verzoeken… NIETS van de Kosterij. Slechte afhandeling.

A super cozy terrace beneath the famous Martini Tower. The staff is friendly and chatty, and despite the terrace being full, they take the time to help you. The lunch was excellent. The schiacciata sandwiches with warm ham and the ones with grilled chicken are highly recommended. Definitely a place we'll visit again.

The High Tea is very nice to do once. We were allowed to choose a place ourselves. You get more than enough to eat and there is a lot of variety. There was also a choice of fresh tea, but also tea bags. Fortunately it was not too busy and the service was fine. They were attentive and came back several times to ask if everything was going well.

I always come here for the great coffee. Today I went for lunch. I had the steak sandwich and it was very tasty, highly recommended. I will definitely come back to try one of the other sandwiches.

There's a story here. The city is small, tidy, and very fast-paced. This restaurant has an idea. The idea is to sit down, relax a little, and remember how the day began.❤️

Update: Once again enjoyed it, this time a latte macchiato and then a dirty chai latte. Friendly staff. This afternoon sat on the terrace first in the shade then in the sun. Friendly staff, were helped well. We were able to pay immediately, ideal for those who sit there, less for yourself because giving a tip is then more difficult. First had a drink, then did the snack platter. Very extensive. Delicious, then had another drink then could give a tip. You are definitely worth it as staff and the snack platter. View of the Martini Tower and Grote Markt, a lovely spot.

We had a high tea. The weather was lovely, but we were not allowed to sit outside, that was not possible. That disappointed us because it was very quiet. Inside it was small and uninviting. We got tea and a cake stand with snacks. The quality was mediocre. They were some cheap snacks from the wholesaler, not exactly tasty. We expected more from the quality and the service. We were not monitored either. We were not asked if we wanted a new pot of tea. Afterwards we were not even asked if it had tasted good or what we thought of it. Too bad, we expected more from this experience.

Last week enjoyed a well-catered evening at De Kostery. Also recommended for large groups and/or company outings. Friendly service, thoughtful and delicious food. Beautiful different dishes served and something for everyone (even as a vegetarian I didn't miss anything). Recommended!!

Absolutely love this place. The food is amazing, the atmosphere is cozy, and the service is always friendly and welcoming. There’s plenty of seating, and the big picnic tables outside are perfect for hanging out with friends or just enjoying some sun. Everything feels well thought out and relaxed. Just a great spot all around.

Before we went to the football match Netherlands-Malta we enjoyed Kostery's shared dining. Salmon and Entrecote were very well prepared. Also the starters including the Gambas were fantastic. Keep it up and we will definitely come back!

Sat here on the terrace last month, carpaccio was still frozen. The girl went to get a new one for me, I waited almost 20 minutes to then get the same plate on the table with even the cutlery still on it, unfortunately the rest of the table had already finished eating. The girl who brought the drinks said nothing and just put everything on the table. The lady who served us looked tired and said that she had been working for a very long time without a break, this is apparently normal in the catering industry? Location is great in the sun, inside it did not look super clean and tidy. The cappuccino was very tasty, maybe better next time!

So nice to have a cup of coffee here, but for lunch... Delicious! 🙌🏻

Food is disgustingly full of oils. I got a steak (of 3 bites) which they charge 22 euros + 2 euros for the fries, drenched in bad quality oils to make you feel full with the tiny portions. And my girlfriend got a surf and turf ( looked like a soup from the amount of crème) with 2 shrimps and the most chewy meat you have ever had. Overall disgustingly bad would definitely avoid. The starters where okay at best. And a piece of cheesecake for 8 euros lol, tasted alright

A meeting over a cup of coffee on my initiative to look back at the past with satisfaction and love. So I sat there. And you know what? That was exactly the right thing to do. And especially to completely let go of the toxic residue. The great thing was that there was a wedding going on at that time. A beautiful metaphor for everything I stand for! Unique place under the Martini Tower .. the autumn sun on the terrace watching passers-by, lots of students, nice (gives energy) and a very pleasant (extra-earning) service who are studying medicine. Oh well... the hamburger with cheese + fried onions, the pasta and American pancakes for dessert were good, nothing special but that's not necessary in this setting. We thoroughly enjoyed this moment.

In itself fine, nice service and reasonably fast, but the menu was sticky and so were the banisters... and I personally think that is a downside.

Ate delicious yoghurt ice cream and drank something. De Kostery also has delicious snacks to eat. You can sit outside very nicely.

Fuimos a De Kosterij por capricho y nos sentamos afuera, al sol. Pedimos nuestra comida y bebidas, los servidores y la cocina estaban muy atentos para mis alergias alimentarias. Hacía frío fuera y nos movimos dentro (no hicieron ningún alboroto al respecto). Pedí el slibtong (pez lenguado pequeño) y mi novio tagliatelle. Mi plato era muy sabroso y más que suficiente (tenía tres trozos de pescado) pero no me dieron papas fritas, tuve que pedirlas después (hasta que las conseguí mi plato estaba casi vacío). El tagliatelle de mi novio no era un plato enorme. Se fue con hambre (y se comió la mitad de mis papas fritas). Las chicas que servían no estaban muy presentes dentro (la mayoría de la gente estaba sentada afuera así que tenían prioridad) así que cuando dejé caer mi tenedor y pedí uno nuevo, finalmente tuvimos que ir a pedirnos un reemplazo (y lo que recibí nos hizo reír ya que conseguí un pequeño tenedor, pero está bien, no me impidió comer el pescado) Un consejo más: nuestros cócteles estaban demasiado “diluidos” (demasiados cubitos de hielo, muy poco alcohol en él) En general, realmente volvería por la gran comida y el personal amable, aunque podrían hacer algo sobre la falta de servicio rápido.

It was a busy Saturday afternoon and we were a group of 10 people, so it was quite difficult to get a spot in Groningen, so we walked onto the terrace to see if a spot could be arranged for 10, everything was immediately arranged and we were seated within 5 minutes. wonderful with a beer in the sun in the heart of Groningen. Many thanks again for this 🙏 And the food was also well arranged and all 10 people received a high grade for the quality. So when you visit Groningen, stop by the sexton.

I have been to this place 3-4 times. I love their breakfast menu. My favorite is "English breakfast". If you sit upstairs, you can get a nice view of the Grote Markt. The staff is very friendly. I would definitely recommend this place if you are looking for a nice breakfast or brunch.

Ok, I need another review for the next life. I have been here once in De Kostery (March 2017) and that was the last time after a bizarre experience that I still regularly tell the next time I eat a croquette somewhere. I ordered bread and croquettes here and halfway through the meal I noticed that the croquette still contained ice (frozen), I politely reported this and the lady (waitress) looked at me strangely and dipped her finger in my croquette. to check if this was really true!! (as if it was the most normal thing in the world) and felt as if she didn't believe me, but hey, the ice cream was there and she got a new croquette (without apologies). They really had a bad feeling about how things went. It's been a long time (almost 7 years) so assume the situation is different now. What can I say, I will eat here again soon, I often visit the area (Forum) and Martini Church.

Very quiet and pleasant place to sit and relax. I ordered english breakfast which was deliciously made, and on top of that, they served me a free orange juice. Very refreshing.

Dont EAT here, the food is over date, not fresh, it’s crowded, a lot of noise, don’t go to the toilet, it stinks, not clean, you will vomid and it’s very expensive, I don’t advice to eat or drink here except if you want to get sick, Please go somewhere else for some good food, so you don’t regret it like we did!

It's a cafe, but with the feeling of an old-fashioned Konditorei or Tearoom. Nice cakes and upstairs there is a nice view at the Grote Markt (central square of Groningen city).
