De Toeter in Centrum

What a great experience at this place on the Turfsingel. The food was truly delicious. The spareribs, in particular, were perfectly prepared and beautifully garnished with fresh herbs. Combining them with a beer on tap made the evening complete. I will definitely be back here soon for another fine meal. Highly recommended for everyone in Groningen.

A very nice and beautifully decorated specialty beer bar that also boasts a more than impressive whisky collection. There are also beautiful special and rare editions, many beers on tap, and the delicious Westvleteren is not missing either. Highly recommended for the connoisseur.

Nice place with a very extensive menu! Although I am against the electricity consumption, air conditioning wouldn't hurt these days.

Had a fun pub quiz at De Toeter yesterday and then enjoyed watching football. Nice place with a good atmosphere, but the bar staff were terrible. I got a large Grolsch three times and paid a different price three times. Drinking a beer is expensive enough as it is, let alone when the staff run off with the prices themselves. So if you go here, watch out for the prices being charged, because you are being ripped off.

We went on the ‘toeterboot’ and it was great! Nice beer, beautiful views. Plus: it’s vegan! We got an ‘ontbijtkoek’ which happens to be vegan.

Found whisky and craft beer heaven in Groningen! The menu at De Toeter is enormous, but luckily the knowledgeable (and super friendly!) staff are always happy to help you choose. 10/10, I'd love to come back!

The food wasn't great. Greasy fries and sand in the salad. And the wait was incredibly long, even though we had made a reservation and should have ordered in advance. A real waste of money.

Unfortunately, the request to dine at a leisurely pace and not be served too quickly was not conveyed properly, despite having indicated this by phone on-site. Our main courses arrived practically immediately and we were given no time for a starter. Otherwise, the food was tasty, the service very friendly, and the atmosphere is lively and bustling.

Pubquizzes there are absolutely legendary, and the quizmasters deserve all the (p)raise in the world for the great job they're doing each time! Not to mention the rest of the crew - this team is fenomenal and always makes you feel welcomed!

Good atmosphere, nice pub quizzes, but the beers are way too expensive. If you have to pay around 8 euros for a simple specialty beer like IJ Wit or Jopen Mooi Nel, it doesn't seem hospitable at all. I will go to another cafe where I have to pay several euros less

We enjoyed the trivia on Sunday evening. It was in English and Dutch. The quiz master did a great job and the 3 hours flew by. So if you're American and you find yourself in Groningen on a Wednesday or Sunday go to de toeter.

Just paid €7,70(!) for 6 mediocore bitterballen and €7,50(!!!) for the worst Irish coffee of my life, made with watery coffee and served without whipped cream. What a ripoff.

We took part in one of the famous pub quiz evenings. It was hilarious! It was insanely busy, but the service was still able to handle it well. You can see that they do this more often and enjoy it.

We came here to have a nice meal and watch the EC, but unfortunately the food was very tasteless at a fairly high price and there was no EC on the TV. We were very disappointed.

One can spend a few hours in this place. There are more than enough goodies on the menu. Whiskey and beer lovers have come to the right place. The owner does more than just run the café with his staff. Friendly staff with expertise.

Op deze plek kan men zich wel een paar uurtjes vertoeven. Er staat meer dan genoeg lekkers op de kaart. Liefhebber van Whisky en bieren zijn hier aan het juiste adres. De uitbater doet nog meer dan alleen het café runnen met zijn personeel. Vriendelijk personeel met verstand van zaken.

The beer here is insanely expensive. For 33 cl Toeter blond you have to pay 6.50. Those guys are crazy. I'll never go there again. The waiters were fine and the atmosphere is also ok. But as mentioned, ridiculous prices.

Geweldig cafe om te borrelen. Unieke plek in Groningen met goede sfeer, speciaalbier en Whiskey. De hapjes die via de catering te bestellen zijn (anders dan van de menukaart) zijn zwaar af te raden. Extreem duur t.o.v wat je ervoor krijgt. Ik zou het lekker bij de menukaart van de Toeter houden en dan heb je een topavond!

Great place for some single malts and house beers! Try their Ludina IPA with a glass of some nice Islay. Great service and all around ambience.

Lekker bier en een is uitgebreide en bijzondere kaart, maar erg prijzig in verhouding met anderen. Het personeel weet helaas niet altijd wat ze schenken en als je een fles kraanwater bij je bier besteld voor de groep, betaal je daar 3 euro voor.

Goede bierselectie, en 50% goedkoper op zondag tussen 10 en 1. Edit: de 50% korting is afgeschaft. Wel nog steeds een gezellig café.

Pubquiz gedaan met vrienden op de zondagavond. Van tevoren hebben we gegeten, wat erg lekker was vooral voor een speciaalbiercafé. De pubquiz was goed bezocht en zat helemaal vol. De vragen werden gesteld in het Nederlands en Engels waardoor iedereen mee kan doen. Zeker een aanrader om met een groep vrienden heen te gaan!

Bootje gehuurd met onbeperkt drankjes en een "luxe borrelplank". Voor deze borrelplank betaal je bij de meeste horeca 25 euro, bij de toeter ruim 60 euro. Niet doen dus die borrelplank!

Gezellig meegedaan aan de pubquiz met al mijn maden. Flink op de toeter gedrukt toen m’n maden er aankwamen. Ik moest helaas rijden maar mijn maden gingen kruipend naar huis.

We komen hier geregeld voor de pubquiz. Die is met afstand de beste in Groningen. Ik kan het iedereen aanraden om eens een avondje mee te spelen.

Whiskey proeverij gehad, super goed uitgevoerd.

De wijn was lauw en zuur. Borrelplank ronduit vies! Oudbakken ijskoude, vette ranzige worst en een paar stukjes oude kaas voor de hoofdprijs. Burger was klein met een heel groot broodje, zo leek het nog wat. Al met al bijna 100 euro verder en nog even bij de Mac ( ja zelfs dat was lekkerder) langs. Eén keer maar nooit meer. Enige pluspunt was de 2 vriendelijk jongens in de bediening (die konden er ook niets aan doen)

Wiskeyproeverij gehad met in eerste instantie 9 personen, maar door 2 ziekmeldingen 7 personen. Voor de toeter was 8 het minimum bedrag. Dat kan ik accepteren, wat ik niet kan accepteren is 8.50 voor de snacks die aangeboden werden. Als je met met 8 man besteld dan betaal je dus 68euro aan voedsel en dan liggen er 4 kleine plankjes met eten. Het is niet representatief voor het betaalde bedrag. 1 brokje schimmelkaas paar brokjes oude kaas, paar brokjes droge worst. That's it. Jammer anders hoger aantal sterren gegeven. Wiskeyproeverij was prima.

Great atmosphere and beer selection

Good atmosphere (brown pub) with great drink, for sure (food is not bad too, for pub food) - I have visited here plenty of times and with 1 or 2 people it is usually fun and fine - especially if we order ourselves from the bar and only have to deal with the bar staff (waiters tend to be slow and hard to get attention from). While some of the staff are well trained (they know about beer and whisky) - many are clearly not and are very confused about their jobs and how to execute them. Unfortunately, on a recent trip (where our group was larger so we had a table and used the server) I had to ask 3 times for my beer to be brought to the table and eventually had to go to the bar myself to do it. We ordered food. No napkins ... again, have to ask... and wait. It's just weird obvious stuff that any server should know and do. Then there was a mix-up with the bill - no problem right? It took them >20 min to fix it and they expected me to politely wait while they figured out their own system. Meanwhile, I am now running late for my next engagement and held hostage by the tutorial the staff are receiving at the till. Why not just tally the actual charges by hand so I can pay and leave and figure out your own system on your own time? When I expressed frustration and my desire to leave I was told I was probably "too drunk" (? - by someone in a management capacity!!) and was smugly expected to continue waiting politely (as if the source of my frustration was my own doing and that it is perfectly normal to ask to pay and be made to wait >20 min to complete this request) - totally weird and unnecessary response (I had only 2 beers in > 2hrs, so, no, I was not in any way drunk) - anyway, this experience really soured my view of this bar. Terrible sense of customer service and hospitality management. Maybe I will try it again in the future - but not soon - they really need to work on their professionalism. Customers are not hostages to your poor training or your bill mixups. And it is OK to tally a bill by hand (if you can do math) and sort out your technical issues later. I usually spend a lot in this bar, so, it's their loss - though I doubt they'll care.

Wat een super gezellig café..! Vriendelijk personeel, heerlijk eten en drinken .. mijn vriend kan lekker Grolsch 🍻drinken en ik Prosecco 🥂onze favoriet.. ( maar ze hebben héél veel verschillende bier soorten) voor ieder z’n smaak ! we zijn er nu een aantal keer geweest en dopen de toeter om tot onze stamkroeg.. een aanrader.. ✅goede sfeer..

De toeter is een cafe en geen restaurant eten is echt heel.matig van kwaliteit. 3 verschillende gerechten met allemaal het zelfde bijgerecht,gebakken frieten die lauw werden geserveerd en een salade waar wat tomaatjes door heen waren gedaan en een zure azijn. Dit was echt niet lekker. Als hoofdgerecht op huid gebakken dorado, sate en spareribs alles opnieuw zeer matig. Een nieuwe bediende die het vak nog moest leren, hij had de vaart er goed in, beetje te goed, als het aan hem had gelegen waren er binnen 10 minuten weer buiten. Tenslotte de koffie, kannhet soms nog een beetje goed maken maar deze espresso had totaal geen creme laag, eigenlijk niet drinkbaar. Hmmm een restaurant nee als cafe prima plek.
