De Refter in Wijk 05 Nijmegen-Midden

As a university food court, De Refter is frankly good; ample indoor seating always available; a notable variety of food items to choose from; quick service; neat and tidy at all times; friendly, helpful personnel in all food stations; lively vibe during lunchtime and cozy feel in the afternoons and around evenings; nice atmosphere overall; also has a cafe for warm drinks and coffee. However, prices could be regarded as a tiny bit steep; you'd expect lower prices for a student dining sevice; also, some of the dishes are either rather bland or a bit small in size compared to their price. Nonetheless, it's a great place overall to hang out, have a bit to eat, or even get some light work done.

A great restaurant if you have evening activities around the campus when you dont live in Nijmegen, the food is varied and overall has a great quality by now. It's relatively cheap for students (e.g. 4,95 for the meal of the day) which also always has vegetarian options, so yup, can recommend this place if you need a quick cheap dinner near campus.

Delicious and sustainable food for a friendly price!

The atmosphere is very good. Plenty of nice places to sit. The service was excellent, as the food was ready quickly, but there was no interaction with the cooks. The food wasn't great. I had a pizza with tomato sauce, cheese, and salami, and that's it. The cheese wasn't good, and the sauce wasn't good. It was freshly baked, though.

I tried Chicken Ramen from Deli Tiger at De Refter for today's lunch. Everything is good except the ramen is overpriced for its size. The noodles are countable, what is even less is the number of chicken meat. And I ordered the "large" bowl. But I guess everything here is expensive. Other than that, the place is nice, clean and cozy. I wouldn't mind spending some time with friends and eating here again. Just next time I can find something more affordable and student-friendly, at least I hope so.

Hadn't been for a while, but the re-styling was certainly a success. Something for everyone at an attractive price, although I don't know if the students agree with me. I'll come there more often.

Got food poisoning yesterday after eating a vegetarian burger. Not recommended!

Great place for lunch. Not fancy, just a buffet style pick up system. So no service, only cashier. Atmosphere is not special, exactly what you expect from a restaurant on a campus. Food is of good quality, but pricey.

I still remember what it was like before the update of De Refter and how nice, atmospheric and modern it has become, with something for everyone and every budget. A great asset to the RU campus!

Ate the burger menu at Angus. Was okay, but for the price and the amount of people in line I expected more flavor from the food. Maybe it's just as healthy as possible? But in my opinion that is not necessary with fast food. I don't normally write reviews but was disappointed. I'll eat at home next time.

Most meals here are between €4.5 and €6 - and that's without a side dish if you're really hungry. These prices cannot really be called student-friendly... The quality of the food varies considerably between the different options. It seems that De Refter is trying to target both students and non-students, but is in danger of not really satisfying either target group: for students it is just a little too expensive, for non-students the quality is just a little too low. As a student, you can almost as easily choose the vegetarian option in a cafeteria nearby and there is a good chance that you will get the same (or more) food of the same (or better) quality for the same price (or less). Finally, the opening hours of the various food stands are vague: De Refter is open from Monday to Thursday until 7:30 PM, but most stands seem to be closed at 7 PM. To be clear, this is not a criticism of the staff: they are friendly even though they often have to work under high pressure.

I have nothing special to say about this

The coffee had tasted good, but no sandwiches were ready at 8:45. You would expect that when the store opens, the products have already been prepared. That's why I'm giving four stars instead of five. Top business!

Nutritional value far below par I recently ate here a number of times in the evening. Only the vegetarian buffet will be open, with only one choice. And that one choice often does not meet the idea of ​​healthy food in any way. Vegetables in particular are very hard to find. You can forget the standard of 200g vegetables with a hot meal. You only get some vegetables if there is stew. Other days you should think more about a plate full of pasta with cream sauce and three mushrooms. Also in terms of proteins, one rarely comes close to a complete meal. I don't mind unhealthy food being offered if there is also a healthy choice, but that is not the case here. The unhealthy food is the only option here. In my view, this is shameful for a university that is so concerned with health.

It's nice that as a student you can eat delicious food at the refectory for not too much money. However, I notice that there is far too little choice for gluten-free options. There is a lot of thought about vegetarian and vegan, but not about people with real allergies! I also think it is a shame that there has been less choice at the craft since the renovation

I think it is very good and the prices are friendly. However, I think it's a shame that things like a vegan week are imposed from above. Others don't decide that for me. After all, the fake meat tastes like a tasteless sponge. This is a shame because the rest is so nice and good.

Expensive for what I saw on my plate

The university must push back on its neoliberal policies and safeguard its identity as a social institution. But the food is tasty and cheap.

This is an amazing canteen! I’ve been to here last year, the experience is just soso. They only had a few variety of choices. However after renovation in 2019 summer, there are much more alternatives for students. No matter you are a Dutch or an international student, you can find something suitable for you. There is a cafe which offers tea, coffee or alcoholic drinks. If you are a vegetarian, you can find some green food. You can also choose Chinese food (wok), Italian food (pizza) or American food (burger) here.

Food was better before the renovation. Pizzas way too expensive and mediocre quality. Pizza in cafeteria de Fest in Brakkenstein much better and cheaper. The coalfish today tasted too fishy. Tijdens de 4-daagse eten verschillende Rode Kruis medewerkers aldaar. Het eten is in menu's verdeeld waar je uit kan kiezen. Het is een looproute. Soep, hoofdgerecht en een heerlijk dessert, wat elke dag anders is. Het eten is goed en veel. Wij smikkelen er heerlijk van. De normale studenten die er normaal zijn, zijn er die week niet. Min of meer komen er meer mensen van het Rode Kruis en de wandelaars. Gezellig aan grote lange tafels en kletsen en eten maar.

Dinner is often excellent here. If you want to eat lunch, you often end up standing in long lines, wasting your free time between classes. That's why I go to the Spar around the corner more and more often. What I have noticed lately is that the selection of sandwiches is a bit limited. That's a shame, because the sandwiches were often quite tasty.

We went to the rafter for dinner during the introduction. It really disappointed me. Of course you don't expect a star meal for 5 euros, but it should at least have some flavor and be at the right temperature. My tip is that less attention should be paid to the logistics process and a lot more to the quality of the food.

If you want a cheap bun with a slice of cheese, you can get it here. If you want to get sick, then eat something more fancy. It's cheap, in every sense of the word.

Reasonable. Mass production of forgotten vegetables that only the refectory has not forgotten. The staff sincerely wishes you a good day. Every now and then you move a little to the side and then it's quite nice.

After a hard day of studying, it is always a blessing to have a fork in the university restaurant 'De Refter'. As soon as you enter through the impressive revolving door, you are greeted by the smell of delicious pieces of falafel on 'Meat Free Monday'. What a feast it will be! Once you have passed the food choices on display for the evening in question, it quickly becomes clear what will be eaten that evening: the plate of food with something on it that looks like fries. Given that the hunger for credits and extra study material ironically also causes actual hunger, you are already in line at 5:00 PM sharp with your newly acquired tray and your student card at the ready. One of the plate serving girls looks at you kindly and says "please" as she hands over your meal for that evening. “Well, thank you!” you say, shocked by all that friendliness on a late Monday afternoon. You just have to pay for it with the ever charming checkout ladies. They wish you a nice evening and enjoy your meal. Just grab the cutlery and you're ready to eat the best meal ever. Once settled in the most prominent spot in the establishment, the journey to happiness begins. Your first bite of falafel and vegetables is perfect: not too sweet, not too salty and certainly not hard or limp-boiled. You'll be amazed. You have never experienced such an explosion of taste. You jump up to thank the head chef and the sous chef, but they already thank you. After this beautiful moment and a long conversation about cooking techniques, you forget to empty your plate. You leave the Dutch version of 'Osteria Francescana' with a satisfied feeling and a stomach filled with love for food. Tomorrow again!

Proper food for a good price. Only vegetarian options on Monday though...

my boyfriend had to puke after he ate a Burger from the Refter. And half of his potato wedges looked not good anymore. Iam also persuaded they could offer food for so many people for a cheaper price. It seems like they make profit with all students who dont really have many alternatives close to the Refter.

De Refter is one of the most beautiful places I have ever visited. It is a unique building that has been converted into living spaces and houses a warm community. It is a special place and if you have the opportunity to the explore this space, I would highly recommend it.
