As frequent visitors to Michelin-starred restaurants, this has slowly become our go-to place when we’ve grown tired of all the pretensions. Pure food, fantastic flavor combinations, amazing staff, beautiful location. Everything without frills or pretentiousness. Simply providing great food and a pleasant experience for the guests.

We had a pleasant dinner here. The food is excellent, prepared with great care and using quality ingredients. Just keep in mind that when it's busy, it can be difficult to find a parking spot.

Today we enjoyed another delicious lunch. The fish salad is fantastic, a hit on the menu for years. The best fish salad I've ever had. A nice glass of wine accompanied it, and I was completely satisfied. A lovely place and not expensive, honest food for a fair price. February 2026 Ate again, the same experience as described above. I was invited to join my friend's work dinner, which was held here, and I was thrilled! What a lovely restaurant! The service was friendly and knowledgeable, the atmosphere was good (we sat upstairs and had the entire floor for our group), and the food was absolutely delicious! Beautifully presented, delicious flavor combinations, and generous portions! Our compliments! 😄 They also really kindly allowed us ample time for dinner (outside of their closing time).

Ate here for the first time. The dinner was delicious, generous portions, and beautifully presented. The atmosphere was pleasantly busy. The service upon arrival was good and friendly. However, for the service, clearing plates while someone is still eating is sloppy and not good. It's a shame, though, that the water is just as expensive as a good glass of wine.

The Red Lion truly knows how to combine flavors and try unique dishes. Like a loaf-shaped dish made with porcini mushrooms, highly recommended, and the truffle risotto is unbeatable.

Fantastic location. When the weather is nice, it's lovely to sit outside on the terrace. Wonderfully peaceful, even though it's just a stone's throw from Rotterdam. The staff is very friendly and helpful. And above all (and importantly), the chef knows his craft. We had a delicious meal with an excellent wine selection. Highly recommended!

It's a given that everything is getting more expensive due to inflation. But paying €3.75 for a single glass of Fanta (not even a bottle with more in it) with large ice cubes is really going too far 😂. The service is friendly and the atmosphere is pleasant.

Great food with good service and a nice atmosphere. We sat outside, which made the experience extra pleasant. Definitely a place to come back!

Upon arrival at De Roode Leeuw we were immediately welcomed by the host, which immediately gave a good first impression. We chose to take a seat on the terrace, where we were immediately served a drink – a nice start to the visit. Less than five minutes later, the chicken thigh toast was served. The portion was on the small side, but that was more than made up for by the excellent taste and prompt, attentive service. Every detail was correct: fresh, well-flavoured and clearly prepared with care. All in all, a visit that leaves you wanting more. This is an absolute must for those who love personal attention and quality.

We arrived in Amsterdam and on waking out from central station we passed by here The place looked clean and contemporary and most definately was The menu sounded good However I ordered a hot chicken sandwich my friends the salmon sandwich It looked really pretty but when I got down to the eating the sauce had made the bread soggy and essentially it was a heated up slice of processed cooked chicken I think my expectations were perhaps more in line with uk which may be unfair but it was quite pricey and actually pricy for what it was and unappealing in the eating Everything was aesthetically pleasing but I’d rather have something which tastes nice Wouldn’t return

Asked for the menu after ordering some drinks. Menu never came! So crap. Your guest should be your first priority, but that is the burden of having children do the serving!

We had contact with the manager several times in advance to arrange our lunch for 30 people, but that was difficult because the promised information was not forthcoming and we had to ask for it ourselves (again). Very explicitly, via table layout, indicated in advance via email who should get what and even that was not entirely correct, which meant that some of our guests had to wait a while for their lunch. Of the three course lunch, the first 2 courses were good, but the dessert was very disappointing. But the worst thing for us was the fact that the manager in question only greeted us with a raised hand when we entered and we never saw him again, nor did anyone from management ask us after lunch if everything was okay! Too bad, because it is a charming restaurant that is apparently busy enough to give guests the feeling of being welcome.

We was there today to celebrate our 18 years anniversary. sit outside, nature around, very nice and enjoy the meals so much. the service is very good, price compare to the quality is fair. Why we chose here because our wedding party was here 18 years ago but with old building. The red lion that hang in front of the door is still the same one I guess so.

Sunday afternoon, just after five o'clock, terrace... For a nice glass of wine with a snack at the end of the afternoon, you should skip this place, because a glass of wine is just fine, but otherwise the entire staff is taking a break on the terrace at the same time, so that nothing can be done for guests. prepared... bizarre and never experienced anywhere before. The tone in which this was said did not really show any insight into what guests come to do (bring the salary to the staff). We'd rather not come here at all anymore...

Disappointing and disappointing experience for the price you pay here. 4-course menu where the male servant mentions twice that an extra dish is being served, asparagus soup. After all, we waited half an hour for the first dish and then it turned out that asparagus soup was not an additional dish in the case of the 4-course menu. That's amateurish and rude. The ladies do their best with the service, but the male server comes across as rude and uninterested. Very strange. Dishes are reasonable but certainly not special. The kitchen seems to be sparsely occupied even though it is quite busy on a Tuesday evening. 4 dishes take almost 3 hours. That is not pleasant. Many improvements possible. Success with it!

Tegenvallende en teleurstellende ervaring voor de prijs die je hier betaalt. 4-gangen menu waarbij de mannelijke bediende tot 2x toe meldt dat er een extra gerecht wordt geserveerd, aspergesoep. Puntje bi paaltje half uur gewacht op het eerste gerecht en dan blijkt aspergesoep toch geen extra gerecht in het geval van het 4-gangen menu. Dat is amateuristisch en onbeleefd. De dames doen hun best met de service, maar de mannelijke serveerder komt onbeleefd en ongeïnteresseerd over. Heel raar. Gerechten zijn redelijk maar zeker niet bijzonder. Keuken lijkt heel matig bezet terwijl het toch behoorlijk druk is op een dinsdagavond. 4 gerechten duren bijna 3 uur. Dat is niet prettig. Veel verbeteringen mogelijk. Succes ermee!

What a scandalous place. I called on Wednesday evening to ask if I could have lunch with my sister and mother on Saturday afternoon. And the question was whether a dog could come with me. Everything was fine. We arrive today. It is full of students and it is suddenly a private afternoon. Arrogant. waitress says it is not possible, I will certainly not come here for another time, communication could be much better and we could pass on the appointments for Saturday

Professionele en vriendelijke bediening, voortreffelijk eten en een sfeervol restaurant.

Vanavond heerlijk gegeten in dit sfeervol ingerichte restaurant. Vriendelijke bediening, goed eten, goede sfeer en zeer vriendelijk personeel. Ik was hier samen met een zakenpartner/vriendin. Nooit eerder geweest. Absolute aanrader.

Met zijn drieën hier heerlijk gegeten met lunch. Het eten wordt netjes geserveerd en heerlijk op smaak. Toen wij aangaven dat het vlees doorbakken is, keken zij er naar en ze waren het er gelijk mee eens. Geen gezeur of ja maar verhaal. Het bord meegenomen en een nieuw bord kwam er snel achteraan. Nu wel heerlijk stuk vlees. Top service! De gastheer had ook de kennis over goede wijn.

Goede service, goed eten, attent vriendelijk personeel. Mooi restaurant, wordt wel lawaaierig met veel pratende gasten naast je. Mijn man heeft een gehoorprobleem, dus onze conversatie loste op in het geluid om ons heen. We hebben wel genoten van het eten en de wijn.

Het is lang geleden dat ik zowel kwalitatief als kwantitatief zo goed gegeten hebt. Vaak zie je bij restaurants van goede kwaliteit dat de portiegrootte steeds kleiner wordt ter bewaring van de "kwaliteit". De Roode Leeuw bewijst dat je hoogstaande kwaliteit kan neerzetten met normale hoeveelheden eten. Een prachtig stuk kalfsvlees met zwezerik, daadwerkelijk om je vingers bij op te eten. De desserts machtig, maar je denkt er dagen later nog aan. Een enorme aanrader, en zeker een restaurant waar ik nog veel vaker naartoe zal gaan!
