Excellent and atmospheric restaurant! Very nice personal service and delicious food.

Good food, friendly staff and nice location

For years, De Roskam has been the iconic establishment of Houten's historic Old Village. I've been coming here with family since I was young. The most important member, no longer with us, loved coming here for the croquettes. Today, we're happy to keep that tradition alive. The croquettes here are unlike any other.

A great place to celebrate our 39th wedding anniversary with my wife. Good concept. It's a shame you have to book all three courses in advance. I would have preferred a different dessert; it turned out to be of poorer quality.

There was a pleasant atmosphere

A wonderful dinner with a few colleagues. It wasn't busy when we arrived, but by the time we left, the place was packed. Despite the crowds, the service was, in a word, EXCELLENT. We had a delicious meal, everyone had something different, and everyone was very pleased. We'll definitely be back!

Upon entering: "Welcome, thank you." You rarely hear that. The food is good, the service is excellent. The new employee still needs to learn. She's gaining trust, but experienced staff keep an eye on her, assist where needed, and provide explanations. When things get a bit quieter for the service, they stand at the bar, facing the guests. They keep an eye on everything. You rarely see that. In short, a pleasant surprise.

I had a fantastic experience. I can't eat gluten. And they even accommodated that, even with the coffee. I got a chocolate instead of a cookie, for example. Besides that, everything was delicious, and the service was fantastic!

Friendly staff, delicious food, lovely ambiance. My only criticism is the space in the restaurant upstairs/left. It's quite small and overcrowded, making it very noisy and a bit stuffy (both literally and figuratively). The rest of the space is more spacious. Definitely recommended for a cup of coffee or tea, a delicious lunch, or dinner in a pleasant atmosphere!

A nice cozy restaurant with friendly service.

A review is inherently subjective, but I didn't find the food at De Roskam spectacular. It was OK, but certainly nothing more, and therefore not worth the money. The service was friendly and welcoming. The restaurant itself is cozy, but the acoustics aren't great. As far as I'm concerned, there are better options in the area. Sorry, but this is my personal experience.

We had a wonderful meal at De Roskam. It was a great idea to provide the complete menu selection in advance, so you don't have to delve into the menu again after your main course. The service was fast, and it was also nice that they suggested we wait a bit between the main course and dessert. Generous portions, beautifully presented, and incredibly tasty! It was a very convenient location for our group in the middle of the country, and we'll definitely be eating there again!

A well-known restaurant and meeting place for years. I come here regularly. Great menu. Friendly staff. Reasonable prices.

Had coffee before the regional market started in the square. I had to change the wet chairs myself, which was met with annoyance. As a good entrepreneur, you make sure all the tables and chairs are dry after a night of rain and don't scold customers for changing their chairs.

We had a delicious meal, good wine, and it paired well with the dishes. It's a shame the menus themselves looked dirty and the fan in our corner was making quite a racket. When we mentioned the fan, they offered us a different seat in the restaurant.

A cozy restaurant with very friendly staff. We had delicious food. We enjoyed a lovely after-dinner chat. We had to call because we were arriving a bit late, but it wasn't a problem! Personally, I found it a bit too noisy; I could barely hear the staff. We will definitely be back.

Pretty ok food. The staff was not in a good mood. Not rude but very short and lacking service thinking which contributed to a slightly worse experience than perhaps others have.

Very cozy and delicious food and drinks

I had a very disappointing experience at this restaurant. Although the service was fast, the table was set in a sloppy way. After 45 minutes someone came to tell me that the table I was sitting at was reserved, which felt very unprofessional. As if the other guest was more important than me. When I pointed this out, the waiter laughed in an inappropriate way. Eventually I moved to another table but the person who had reserved didn't even show up. The service was bad there was nothing special about the atmosphere or the food. I will definitely not be coming back here.

Cozy restaurant in the middle of the old village of Houten.

Nice lunch spot with delicious food. We enjoyed the noodle soup (my favorite!), cheese croquettes, farmer's omelette and tosti Italiano - everything tasted great. The service was friendly, neat and proactive. Thanks for the good care, it made our day out complete!

I once gave five stars for the food and five stars for the atmosphere, but... four stars for the service, because during that period someone was employed who, in my opinion, was not very customer friendly. Now that this lady no longer works here, the service also gets a big five stars. What a fantastic and friendly service we (a group of 11 people) received last Friday. In addition, a lot of attention was paid to the dishes. Really beautifully presented and completely in keeping with the group size and the atmosphere, and also really tasty. And that automatically brings us to the last assessment 'atmosphere': well, we were initially responsible for that ourselves and we managed quite well, but they happily joined in. In conclusion: Bennie - and of course all the other employees - thank you very much for this very well-organized evening and it's great that we could still get a table outside with that beautiful weather. Delicious snacks at the drinks evening. Many different types of beer from the tap, among other things. The service is very alert and friendly. Had lunch before and it was also really TOP. Nice location and beautiful place. A big thumbs up for the Roskam!!!!

It was another wonderful evening at the Roskam. Delicious food on a nice terrace with smooth, service-oriented service. Simply 🔝

We had to wait 35 minutes for 3 sandwiches. Basket of fries did not get through to the kitchen, but did get through to the service. Recovery attempt for the fries took 14 minutes and was offered without mayo. When we asked for the mayo we got a cup for half a person instead of for 3 people. We usually have better experiences at the Roskam.

Nice place and good food. Nice that they also have a vegan option (in every menu category) and that the main course is also a nice dish, not standard. What I do find really bad is that water is offered by an employee and later you have to pay € 7.75 for 0.7 liters of Chaudfontaine. Downright bizarre! Does the profit really have to be made on water? When you go somewhere to eat and you order a glass of wine and a beer, it is only normal that you get free tap water without having to ask. Unless you order 'still water' yourself of course. Too bad this....

Had a great meal despite the crowds on the square due to the Pentecost festival. The service was still friendly despite the crowds and everything went smoothly. We will definitely come here again.

The quality is good. But you get too little for too much money. For example, you get the sea bass the size of a ladyfinger. They can fill 8 plates (€ 23.95 each) with 1 sea bass. In other words, clearly too expensive for what you get. Very friendly staff and good quality.

With a group of 7 pensioners we were well received and looked after by service-oriented staff. Nice choice of high-quality dishes in a 3-course menu for a very reasonable price these days. They even managed to serve the closing coffee as requested at the same time as the (very nice) dessert, which is almost impossible (just try it). In short, completely fine and highly recommended!

It remains a wonderful place to dine. With a little imagination you can imagine yourself in France. The kitchen is fantastic and the staff is very friendly and attentive

Cozy place, nice terrace. Service very fast. We felt like we had to leave quickly so that our table was free again. We had a carpaccio with lots of lettuce. Nice that they could serve the dressing separately. Staff very friendly.

Fantastic restaurant, nice location, nice atmospheric center.

We were late and therefore in a bit of a hurry. Luckily we were helped very quickly and the food was delicious. It was extra nice that we could safely store our 6 racing bikes at the back of the hall.

Cozy terrace and very extensive lunch menu with delicious dishes

Cozy terrace with (pruned) espalier trees that are already growing their leaves and partly provide sun protection. Nice and neat interior in a vintage look. The terrace also looks neat and cozy. Ate: Avocado sandwich, with spelled bulb, lamb's lettuce, fried egg, green asparagus and avocado. I don't eat dressing, so I add it separately. Delicious! Send that chef on. Does he do extra work if you order him at home? Friendly staff. Adequate operation. My friends' dishes also looked great. Everything turned out to taste great too. Varied menu. Tip for management: When it is very sunny and warm, awnings / parasols are not an unnecessary luxury. Other guests regularly sat in a different place because of the sun. Recommended if you are or live near Houten.

Very satisfied with the service, food, service and atmosphere. We had a family party with 35 people. We received a great welcome, everyone thought the food and service were excellent. Beautiful space and relaxed atmosphere. It was not the first party we celebrated here and, as far as we are concerned, not the last.

Based on the coffee's that we just had, together with excellent service, we will be back to try the food.

Not worth repeating, price quality far below level Had lunch on the terrace, bread crusts are hard and chewy. The soup is sour and according to the menu a 'traditional croquette', but that is nothing more than a frozen flour ball without creamy ragout or pulled pork. Price-quality ratio is far below standard. Service is okay, not worth repeating.

Atmospheric restaurant and good food.

Bij binnenkomst vriendelijk welkom geheten, maar toen we zaten moesten we het maar uitzoeken. Zelf de wijnkaart gaan halen, toen ook maar zelf gaan bestellen, want de dame van de bediening was overal druk mee behalve met klanten. Wijnkaart is beperkt en de kwaliteit matig. Borrelhappen zijn ok maar erg prijzig. Eten ook ok, maar niets speciaals. En het enige restaurant in Nederland waarbij twee identieke flessen water voor verschillende prijzen op de rekening komen (nog afgezien van de prijs, bijna 8 euro voor een litertje water, en dat in Houten). We komen toch maar niet meer terug.

The Roskam is where you can relax with your family and friends after a busy day at work. The people are sweet and attentive and it has a nice atmosphere. The food is delicious and this is also why it is my number 1 place to eat out.

Nice restaurant. Delicious food. We had the angus stake. Good choice. Good ambiance, friendly waiter. Price was ok. We spend 3 hours: time flies when your having fun and a good diner.

Blue zone parking in front of the door. Walk a bit and then park on the street without a Blue Card Nice thing. Clean toilets that smell fresh. Tables with chairs and/or benches. Also high tables with neat upholstered stools. Quiet background music. It seems as if there are several rooms with their own bar area. Good café latte and delicious hazelnut meringue. €9.25 Service is friendly and helpful. Apparently it's the boss's birthday today, which led to some crowds and an older regular customer was apparently forgotten and had to wait a long time for his coffee. Mr boss, congratulations on your 65th birthday.

Het eten was goed, de frietjes erg lekker. De hoeveelheid Boeuf Bourgignon is erg krap in zo'n minipannetje. Mag iets meer zijn. Bediening oké. Bij binnenkomst werden we direct aan de bar te woord gestaan door een minder vriendelijke directieve mevrouw. Hoewel we erg vroeg waren, mochten kiezen uit maar liefst 2 tafeltjes, terwijl bijna alles nog leeg was. Okay, misschien gereserveerd, maar haar toon was niet aardig en vriendelijk. Maar nogmaals: eten en bediening verder okay.
