Meeting with colleagues. Great location in the 'attic'.

Everything was delicious, and the menu was extensive. It's also great for families with children. The place is incredible and steeped in history. Everything is very clean. There's an ice cream truck for kids, and the treats are delicious too.

I sat on the terrace. You can only do so at the front, where you sit on gravel. On top of that, the staff was unfriendly and unsympathetic. It makes you leave quickly after a good fried egg sandwich. A shame.

…Last hot day of summer. 30 degrees…Unfortunately, the terrace where you could sit comfortably in the shade is closed… Everything at the front is in full sun! 30 degrees!! If only one terrace can be open because of staff; then open the terrace that offers shade!! There weren't many people there either, logically! Unfortunately, outing failed; turn around and head home!!

The best "Zoervleisj" ever!! A very beautiful location in charming Sittard. Definitely worth a visit. We come here every year for the Sint Roza festival, and a visit to De Vief Heringe is certainly a must.

I've been to Sittard a lot, especially the center, and now I've found De Vief Heringe! Quite close to the center, in a very beautiful location. You can take a walk around the large pond and inside the De Vief Heringe building itself, where you can notice all sorts of things, such as the still-turning windmill... The staff was very friendly upon arrival; we opted for the terrace at the back. A cozy place to sit, the menu original and fun, a bit in their own dialect too, nice! We did have to wait a bit, because between four-thirty and five, the kitchen needs to soak up some vitamins too 😉😄, no problem at all. We had a tasty aperitif and the frozen 🍓🍑 kept the gin nice and cold 😉😄! Taking the food order went smoothly, even just before five, and it didn't take long to arrive. Everything tasted good, the potatoes too, and the salads were fresh. The dessert was also something different for a change: limoncello tiramisu. A nice experience, friendly staff,... Definitely worth a visit!!

The location is fine, but the cherry pie is very disappointing. A very small slice and hardly any cherries to be found. I mentioned it, but it amounted to nothing more than an apology. Espresso is not served here with a glass of water.

August 2026 Today we went cycling & on our way back home we came along this beauty. A (water driven) mill restaurant (the Ophovener mill) is situated near the city park along the Geleenbeek stream. Its name translates from the local Sittard dialect to "The Five Herrings," a playful nod to a historical local legend featuring 5 tall, slender French soldiers in uniform who resembled thin fish.

Nice restaurant, lots of young people, cozy atmosphere. We had an extensive meal in the waterwheel room. The history is described on the menu, a nice addition.

Friendly employees, cozy atmosphere and variety of warm options for lunch especially zuurvlees was excellent.

On June 26, 2026, we celebrated our wedding at De Vief Heringe: from the ceremony and drinks reception to the dinner and the evening party. All in all, we can say that it was a more than successful day. The service, flexibility, hospitality, and commitment of the entire team were amazing. From the preparations right through to the final hours of the party, we felt completely taken care of. Despite the unexpected heat of over 38 degrees, the team consistently managed to think along with us and adapt flexibly, ensuring that both we and our guests could enjoy ourselves to the fullest. Team of De Vief Heringe, thank you so much for this unforgettable day. Thanks to your dedication, professionalism, and warm welcome, we look back on our wedding with great pleasure. We would recommend this beautiful venue and the fantastic team to everyone without a doubt!

What an amazing meal I had all by myself tonight. Big compliments to the chef for the carefully prepared dinner, including beetroot steak with delicious grilled vegetables, sweet potato purée, and potatoes. And oh wow! Limoncello Tiramisu for dessert! Truly a 10 for the chef and a 10 for the service. Thanks for a wonderful start to the evening!!!!

On May 28th last, my wife and I celebrated our 50th wedding anniversary here. We had our own private room in a beautiful setting, where we could spend time undisturbed with our family. Everything went exactly as we had expected. The staff—the company's calling card—performed undeniably well; they were friendly, engaged, and appeared professional. When the exquisite starter was served, we already knew that the main course and dessert would turn out just as well. We chose the set menu for more than 10 people. Outside, it was summery warm. As we wished, we could open a window or use the air conditioning. We chose red and white wine, beer, soft drinks, as well as bottles of still and sparkling water served in metal coolers to accompany the meal. And........the price/quality ratio......... was absolutely right. Even though we don't live around the corner, we will certainly come back again to take a seat on one of the cozy terraces. High five for the Vief Heringe!

I once learned not to fixate on a restaurant's decor. The food and presentation have to be good, and that is certainly the case here. The black pudding for lunch was well cooked, flavorful with a classic apple and delicious fresh bread. My girlfriend's carpaccio was also a refreshing change. Not the standard presentation, but very surprising, featuring olives among other things. The interior decor seems dated. Seems... because on closer inspection, you can see that the elements have been handled playfully. The staff is alert, to the point, and even managed to make time for a chat despite the crowds. Kudos! Sidenote: As a safety officer at a company, I immediately noticed the uneven gravel path and the treacherous stepping stones on the front terrace. It is just a matter of waiting for the day that something goes wrong with a guest or staff member. Hats off to the ladies working on the terrace! We will be back in mid-July, but this time to dine with a group. This lunch promised to be very good. No, I don't have any photos. I focus on enjoying food, not photographing food.

The food was tasty and the surroundings were beautiful! One of the waitresses was very rushed, slammed the drinks down on the table, and then walked away with drinks scattered all over the table. A little later, she came back and said: "Oh sorry, I'm just clearing it up," quite sarcastic if I do say so myself. Purely because of that, along with the unpleasantness and the waitress's rushing, we left early.

Yesterday we had lovely drinks on the beautiful sunny terrace by the water. We had the sharing platter with hot and cold snacks; great value for money. Most of the waitresses were friendly. The interior looked cozy too, so we will definitely be back.

Probably due to the crowds, there were long waits between the various "courses," and towards the end, we ran out of time and had to finish the sweets quickly. I'VE BEEN COMING FOR 7 YEARS, never disappointed, top service, atmosphere, cozy, friendly staff, good food, not expensive, I recommend the onion soup and in the past the steak in the summer, that delicious ice cream after we sat with the dogs on the terrace and then along the scouting and the stream or the park, beautiful walking routes and there beautiful views, nice inside with those mills etc. inside so super nice, outside a playground for the kids, the kitchen is also large

It's okay. The chairs in that room are rickety. Everything else is neat and there are good seats. Nice space.

We had a delicious meal here in a cozy setting. We received a warm and friendly welcome. It's just a shame that if you're still there around 8 p.m. and want to order a cup of coffee or pay later, you have to look for staff to help you. They're already cleaning up.

A truly cozy, rustic spot with authentic elements! There's a fireplace corner on the left near the bar, a sort of front room/pub on the right with several tables, then straight ahead a cozy area where you can sit inside by the mill, further on a more open space, and then even further on a space that's often rented for private events. There's also a terrace in the front and back. So many options for seating! I haven't tried many dishes yet, but I definitely like what I've had! Highly recommended!

This afternoon we sat outside on the terrace. We asked for cappuccino and pie. We were told they only had crumble pudding and lentil-plum pie. We were slightly disappointed with the limited selection. The crumble pudding pie was poor quality (supermarket?). Especially for the price (€4.50)! A little later, people behind us asked what kind of pie they had. The same waitress said they had Beatrix pie, Bienestich, etc.?! We were amazed! This was our first and last visit to Vief Heringe.

We ordered high tea for five people, having reserved in advance, of course. We received no explanation of the different courses or what we were served. We weren't even asked if we needed more tea water or anything else. The tea strainers weren't suitable for loose leaf tea; we just poured it through. There were two empty containers on the table, and no one knew what they were for, not even our waitress. Afterwards, we weren't even asked if everything was to our liking. This isn't what I'm used to here, as the lunch is always well-prepared. It's a shame, as this is a beautiful location, but the staff aren't particularly friendly or attentive.

We enjoyed sitting on the terrace with the kids on a very sunny day. There was plenty of shade, but we decided to eat inside afterward, which was perfectly acceptable. The kids also had a nice lunch.

The location itself is beautiful, and contributes to a wonderful sense of peace and coziness, which is perfect for a family party. And then the most important thing: the food and drinks were delicious. There was plenty of choice and the quality was top, so that everyone thoroughly enjoyed the culinary experience. What other reviews say confirms this image: Many guests praise the hospitality, the excellent service and the quality of the food. Often the flexibility and personal contact are mentioned as big plus points, especially when organizing parties and events. All in all we can highly recommend De Vief Haringen for any type of party or event. They made our family party unforgettable!
