Long wait for service. No beer glass larger than 25cl because "we don't have them". Did not receive a menu. Asked for the bill and didn't get it. It wasn't even busy. Would have liked to eat and drink more, but that wasn't possible.

We had a super delicious dessert at De Volkslust. They have a new amaretto sour spritz. We really enjoyed it!

Best canal side drinking and snacking spot in Haarlem, fantastic for boat watching. Bitterballen and chicken were perfect accompaniments for beers on a hot day!

Had a lovely lunch on the terrace on the Nieuwe Gracht in Haarlem. Very nice location; right by the water, you can see all the boats and SUPs passing by. The waitress had just started working there but did an excellent job. The food was reasonably priced and very tasty. In short, a great restaurant and terrace.

I had booked a two-course lunch deal here, but upon arrival at the restaurant, they knew nothing about it. It couldn't be ordered; it wasn't on the menu. The girl saw in the reservation system that a booking had indeed been made. After a long wait, she came up with a solution: you can choose something from the menu and then we'll see. After waiting on the terrace for almost an hour, a salad arrived. It was small and without bread. I ordered two Cokes with it. The first time went well, but the second time it didn't. I ordered Coke Zero. I mentioned this, but received no reaction. I also had to pay at the cash register and tried to make me pay over €25; she had forgotten everything that had happened. So, never again for lunch here for me. What a strange company. It's a shame; the location is fine, but the staff isn't.

I was there with my daughters; we had reserved a table online. The friendliness of the team and the atmosphere immediately won us over. We ordered a salad, a steak, and a burger. All three dishes were incredibly delicious, as was the bread with the two dips that came beforehand! If I'm ever in the area again, I'll definitely go back! Three five-star reviews from me and my daughters!

Unfortunately, we did not have a pleasant experience at Volkslust. The atmosphere felt very uncomfortable to us. The woman who we believe was the manager, or at least in charge that day, regularly addressed her colleagues in a passive-aggressive manner. This happened in the presence of guests and had a significant impact on the atmosphere in the restaurant. Additionally, we found her to be very unfriendly in her interactions with customers. This stood in stark contrast to the waitstaff, who were friendly, professional, and helpful. We really felt sorry for them, as they visibly did their best despite the way they were spoken to. It is a shame that the way the staff were treated was so prominently present. As a result, we did not feel at ease as guests either, despite the good service provided by the waitstaff.

What a lovely restaurant! There is also a spacious terrace right by the water, a truly delightful place to sit. We enjoyed a three-course dinner here via Social Deal. We were able to order à la carte, and everything was well organized. The service was friendly and attentive, the interior inside is atmospheric, and it is also lovely to spend time outside on the terrace. With a nice glass of wine and a good cappuccino afterwards, the evening was complete. In short: it was absolutely fantastic and definitely worth it. We would love to come back here again!

Pure enjoyment! From the tuna tataki, the crisp, flavorful vegetables under the salmon fillet, and the anise-flavored parsnip mousseline. And a surprising dessert, Eton Mess; I sometimes make it myself, but it was really delicious this way. Another strawberry on top and a crispy layer on the tuna and salmon, and it would have been perfect. Generous portions, friendly staff, and a lovely terrace with a pleasant view.

Went for breakfast via a Social Deal. The deal stated that we could choose from the two most extensive breakfasts (€16.50), but we were allowed to choose from anything. Since I picked out something like €10 worth of HD, I asked if I could have an extra croissant with butter, and that was no problem. Very friendly staff, nice location by the water. We will definitely be back here!

Unfortunately, my experience was disappointing. The tall waitress was distant, inattentive, and did not come across as professional. Her attitude made us feel unwelcome and negatively affected the overall dining experience.

Since the restaurant appealed to me, I went in and asked for a table for one person for dinner. The server told me I could choose a table, which I did. Then I waited 10 minutes until someone else asked me what I wanted to order—difficult without a menu. I finally got one and was able to order. It came with a plate of bread and some kind of spread, very nice! For my main course, I ordered rump roast—medium. It was good for me because it wasn't as bloody as medium usually is, but the meat was excellent. According to the menu, a green salad should have been included, but it never arrived, and since the server had forgotten about me, I didn't ask for it. All in all, I paid €39 for water, beer, and the meat. The service, however, left much to be desired.

Volkslust Haarlem What a lovely restaurant! A great concept that is incredibly accessible. Carefully presented dishes, just the way I like to see them. An extensive menu with something for everyone. We had a delicious three-course dinner with bread rolls beforehand. The Flemish beef stew is highly recommended, in particular. The rest of our group of four also thoroughly enjoyed the dishes, as they were exquisite. Beautiful style, a great menu, a neat and clean establishment, fast and friendly service, and original beers on tap! Which you can also enjoy outside on the nice benches and chairs with tables. This time, we used Social Deal. Very nice, courteous, and knowledgeable staff. The price-quality ratio is excellent. Finally, A thank you to the staff; we had a fantastic evening. This was our first time, but what a fantastic experience! Very friendly service, creating a great atmosphere. The food was superb, especially the extra dishes that were offered. We had the option to choose a Nicoise salad as a starter, so delicious.

I’m currently traveling in Netherlands with my family and stopped by Volkslust Haarlem for lunch today. The food was amazing and definitely worth the wait. The atmosphere was cozy and relaxed, which made the experience even better. It was a bit late for a cappuccino, but I still enjoyed one! Thank you for the delicious lunch menu—highly recommended.

After a long bike ride it was nice to sit down with a beer on the barge. Just relax and enjoy the sun while enjoying life.

Not worth the wait! Very disappointed, service was slow and it took ages to get a menu, almost an hour for the food to arrive. The food was adequate.

Soon in May, enjoy a delicious drink again on the Water Terrace on the Nieuwe Gracht at De Volklust in Haarlem Do you want to eat something in this lovely summer weather on the Water Terrace at De Volklust Order according to the menu; Nachos don't have it here anymore Too bad the Water Terrace closes around 7:00 PM I come here for the Water Terrace, so I won't go upstairs to the restaurant anymore because that's not what you come for Watch out for the Seagulls !!!! If you are going to eat something here at the Water Terrace at De Volklust, please make sure that the Seagulls do not join you for dinner; these Seagulls are very cheeky and will snatch the food right off your plate. Would the Lady with black hair and a ponytail please start closing the Water Terrace only at 19:00 from now on—so to be clear, do not close the Water Terrace as early as 17:30. Once again, a friendly request: please stop clearing the Water Terrace around 17:30 from now on; this applies to the blonde employee.

We had lunch here recently. It was pleasantly busy, yet spacious. We ordered a smoothie and stewed fries. It isn't stewed meat as you might expect, but it's perfectly fine. The service was slow, though; they didn't come by for extra service, and we also had to insist to pay.

Completely laptop-free. What nonsense. Just create a corner where people can work for half an hour then.

What a lovely family day we had at Volkslust. The boat trip with Lola was magnificent, and the service on both the boat and in the restaurant was formidable!

Nice little restaurant near the station in Haarlem on the canal. A 5-minute walk from the station. Friendly welcome upon entry and a relaxed atmosphere. Ordered a stewed beef and fries for 16.50. Generous portion and smelled delicious. Served quickly too. No cutlery for a moment, but that is a minor detail of course. Good fries, deliciously tender meat. Really tasty. The menu looks good too. From breakfast to dinner, all for a fair price. In the summer they have a floating terrace and their own boat that you can rent for parties etc. Highly recommended. A group of seven enjoyed a delicious Burgundian meal. The food arrived promptly and was especially delicious. Delicious artisan fries. The meringue dessert was a surprise. The staff was friendly and helpful. We were seated at a large table with plenty of room for everyone.

I've eaten here several times with a large group. The food they serve is truly delicious. They have a great menu with a bit of everything. Try the double chocolate cake or the cheesecake for dessert. So, so, so delicious😋. The service is also great. You can really tell they enjoy their work. Kudos to the chefs --> they really know how to tantalize your taste buds. And it's just nice and pleasant that they serve a sandwich with two tapenades without immediately charging you. You feel very welcome as a guest.

A lovely place to eat with excellent service. The food varies in quality—the guinea fowl was tough, the tiramisu very tasty.

Had a delicious breakfast at a great price. Delicious eggs with bacon and American pancakes 🥞. Friendly service. Definitely recommended if you have guests or if you just want to go out for breakfast. I've heard the dinner is also a hit, so I'll definitely go back.

Tomato soup was the only soup and nothing special. Tagliatelle had little spinach and sea bass and a bland taste. Nice waitresses, but they forgot to come by for the dessert round. The place was neat and relatively quiet.

I had lunch here this afternoon with high expectations, but I am hugely disappointed. I ordered a carpaccio sandwich and received it without bread—well, generally not a big problem. Then I received a new one with a mountain of cheese, and the carpaccio was still completely frozen. I sent that one back. Meanwhile, my friend had already finished his food, and I sat waiting 15 minutes for a new sandwich. Which was partially frozen again. No one paid any attention to us, so I ate the sandwich with considerable reluctance. I didn't receive a single apology or compensation. We went to pay and handed cash to a girl who just took it without saying a word and walked away. No nice day, no apology, no thanks. Just gone. All around us were complaints from other guests: the soup was cold and the fries were wet and soggy. In short, a very bad experience and not recommended!

After having a very good dinner of burgers and fish on Friday, we loved Volkslust and really wanted to try the breakfast. So, before leaving for Germany, we stopped by again for breakfast on Sunday morning, but it wasn't as good as expected. The food took about 45 minutes to arrive, and the poached egg on avocado was cold. My husband ordered the breakfast, but the croissant was cold. We really loved dinner on Friday night and expected more from breakfast. But we will definitely be back for dinner. The location is super central, and a very nice lady works there. Hopefully, we'll see you again soon.

Today afternoon we have visited the restaurant and sorry say that; it was a total disappointment. I never had a Flemish stew that bad. Not recommended at all….see how they serve Pink Gin!!

Food was amazing. We ordered the Volkslust burger and the steak. I would highly recommand everyone to visit for the burger they have really tender and good Cooked. One thing that is a bit dissappointing is the service with the drinks. Overall had a nice time will be back again for sure for the food. Very easy access from the train station.

It was 10am on a Wednesday morning, 3 out of 20 (ish) tables only occupied so the place was dead. I’m just trying to check into a flight and the waitress came up to tell me the stop using my iPad…. Huh?! I was going to sit and work my way through 3 coffees, so instead finished up and left, that’s not how you treat customers when you’re dead empty.

Everything was perfectly arranged! Even for people with allergies or dietary restrictions (I have celiac disease; I can't eat cow's milk, lactose, fish, onions, or bell peppers). I don't often eat out, and I always find it intimidating to eat at a restaurant I'm not familiar with. We had lunch/brunch on the boat. You sail through Haarlem for about an hour and a half, enjoying delicious food and drinks. I called the owner beforehand to find out what I could and couldn't eat, and I think it's the first restaurant where everything went so smoothly and I didn't feel like a whiner. 100% recommended!!

We went to eat with my whole family last friday and the service at first was a bit dissappointing but the waitress then came and took the order after 15 minutes and to be honest we were a bit dissappointed about the food but the food was really delicious. Especially the fish it was a very rare and delicious. My mother personally thanked the chef. We are coming back for the food again

The restaurant is beautiful inside. However, there were too many staff for the five tables, and it still took half an hour before we could order our next course or drinks. Such a shame considering it's such a beautiful location!

It wasn't busy, but we had to wait a long time for service, even though tables around us were being served and cleared. The coffee was fine, but the apple pie clearly came from a cold refrigerator.

I've eaten here twice. The location is ideal, just a few minutes' walk from Haarlem station. Our first visit was very positive. The breakfast was delicious, and we enjoyed it. Unfortunately, our second visit wasn't as good. It took a full 30 minutes to order. Even though several staff members were milling around, it seemed like no one really knew what to do. Other guests also regularly approached the staff to ask if they could order or pay. It was clear that the team wasn't happy about it either.

Our waitress, Britney, was incredibly sweet and friendly. She helped us tremendously and made us feel truly welcome. The food was also delicious, highly recommended! 😊

We dined at De Volkslust restaurant with a large group. It was very enjoyable, and the Italian Shared Dining concept worked perfectly: delicious dishes to share in a relaxed atmosphere. The service was friendly, and everything went smoothly. Definitely recommended for a group dinner! :)

Very bad, food is prepared in Utrecht and prepared in Haarlem via the microwave according to the so-called chef

Extremely disappointing both food & service. Was advised of a 40 minute wait, no problem. Got drinks & all good. Hubby finished his beer, left on table & waited & watched waitresses walk past fairly constantly with not one asking if a refill was required so waited to see what would happen. After almost 15 minutes the empty glass was removed without a word or offer of refill. I finished my drink & same process, not one staff member noticed the empty glass or offered a refill so finally got attention of waitress as she was about to walk past again & got a refill, not very impressed. Finally food arrived & sorry to say my steak was medium well when ordered rare (hubbys was perfect) & my mashed potatoes were burnt. Even the chef grimaced when l insisted he try them himself. So fail on service & fail on food quality. To be fair the front of house lady immediately removed the steak from the bill & discounted hubbys as well, but as it's now 10pm a stop at Maccas next to our hotel is required. Extremely disappointing especially after last night's awesome experience at Bambu Kitchen & Bar which was a 5 star experience.

We were very pleased with our visit. The breakfast was truly delicious and the staff were very friendly. The prices are absolutely reasonable. It was especially nice that we were allowed to order six minutes before breakfast was supposed to end. That was very accommodating. The food is really good here and you feel welcome. Highly recommended! Our trip on the Volkslust Salon Boat Lola was a treat from start to finish. Skipper and host Jacob warmly welcomed us with a glass of bubbly, after which we comfortably settled into the beautiful salon boat. As we sailed past Haarlem's most beautiful spots, Jacob created the perfect balance of interesting stories, conviviality, and a relaxed atmosphere. The food was top-notch: delicious sandwiches on crispy fresh bread, delightful croquettes, a wonderful soup, and a wide selection of wine, rosé, beer, and soft drinks. Everything was perfectly taken care of. The service and hospitality were exceptional; you immediately felt welcome and completely pampered. In short: an unforgettable experience where atmosphere, service, and quality come together perfectly. We will definitely be back!

Wonderful waitresses, good food and nice location and a good owner…! But that manager quite arrogant and seemed quite cruel towards to the hard working ladies ( noticed that randomly walking by!)… mister be kinder… it’s 2025 and your attitude it’s not acceptable even by the costumers let alone from the poor (under) staff (ed)!!!!

The food was delicious, the service was quick, but the prices were a bit high for a simple diner. I do have to comment on the bizarrely small portion of sea bass; a tiny fillet on a tiny bed of tagliatelle strings for €24, that's it. I mentioned it anyway, but the staff seemed clueless. The menu said "All dishes are served with salad," but you have to ask for it yourself :') Incidentally, my dining companion still didn't get a salad (nothing to worry about: lettuce pieces and a few tomatoes). Carpaccio and crêpe Suzette were delicious, but the stingy portion of the main course set a new low in Dutch restaurants.

Today we had a lovely boat trip with lunch on the "Lola" through the Haarlem waters. We watched in admiration as the skipper expertly navigated the boat and made sure the guests had everything they needed. Highly recommended!

Well-filled sandwiches for lunch and enough choice. There is a part with background music and a part of the space is without background music. Generally a good impression, too bad about the cat that walked through the restaurant, I personally don't like it that much and the cat also peed on my daughter's bag.
